Information icon Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give Draft:Akram Khodabandeh a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into another page to Akram Khodabandeh. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Cut-and-paste-move repair holding pen. @Chongkian: I use RefToolbar, which I think leaves a clearer reference with more information. To enable it, go to the Gadgets tab on your Preferences and check the box marked RefToolbar. Another choice is ProveIt, which is also accessed from Preferences→Gadgets. You might also want to submit a bug report on Reflinks, by using Bugzilla. Hope this helps. @Chongkian: You can re-add the CEC sources if desired, but since I found so many dead ones then, including on other politicians of the 2014 election, I just thought the entire website was malfunctioning and replaced CEC links with the Taipei Times or Central News Agency. @Hajiru: You are most welcome. What I did was called piping. If you click on the link, you will find more information on the topic. I also cleaned up the pinyin formatting that was on the page to fit into the {{zh}} template, which has a "p=" parameter designed for pinyin. I did not make use of it for the other Chinese text on the page because the template always links Chinese and pinyin. Removing authority control?

Hi. Why have you removed the authority control template from André Trocmé and Magda Trocmé? I see no related discussion at Template talk:Authority control. As far as I know authority control and persondata should be together and on the redirects for redirects to shared biographies. --Mirokado (talk) 06:36, 8 February 2015 (UTC)

@Mirokado: What you suggest is what I have done, but I have hidden the templates from view as a further compromise, using the wiki markup for commenting things out. Maybe a better summary of my edits should be "added hidden authority control". There is not way to add them to singular corresponding Wikidata pages, as far as I am aware. Thanks for your prompt response. I've now had a little more time to refresh my memory and to look around. Looking at Wikipedia:Authority control#Using the template, it is correct to add authority control to the redirects in cases like this and there is no need to comment it out. We should add to the article most directly corresponding to the wikidata entry (creating a suitable redirect if necessary). The corresponding wikidata entries are wikidata:Q523109 and wikidata:Q15056045, which use the accented names, for which we also have redirects which already have redirect to joint biography, persondata and relevant categories, but not authority control. Authority control goes immediately before Persondata, which itself must be before DEFAULTSORT. It will be easier if I run round in little circles building on your recent edits and post again here when I think I have finished, you will of course be welcome to edit further if you think it is necessary. --Mirokado (talk) 15:04, 8 February 2015 (UTC)

@BradPatrick: The page history of William G. Young shows that you were the only user so far to edit the page in May 2015. My last edit to the page was in January of the same year, to add an authority control template. You first switched the tense on 15 May, (here) reverted yourself on 21 May, (here) and corrected the error around five minutes later, blaming me for it, possibily because you were reading the edit summary (Reverted to last revision by Vycl1994). @White whirlwind: Let's take Knechtges as an example. After clicking on the LCCN link in the authority control template, it should take you to this page. The second line under the "Sources" heading reads "found: Wen xuan, or, Selections ... c1982- : CIP data sheet (David R. Knechtges, b. 10/23/42)." As the Library of Congress is an American institution, most dates are in MM/DD/YY format.
Fred Craddock's DOB, seen here, is simply marked "(b. 4/30/28)" at the third item under that same "Sources" heading. George Low Jr., Andrew Oung, Elizabeth A. Fenn, and Inga Saffron's full DOB are also listed at their respective LCCN pages, but sometimes LCCN only gives the birth year, (see Mary McNamara, Peter Theo Curtis) so just include that, unless you can find a reliable source for the full version. If LCCN lists IMDB birthdates, as they did at Paul Ryan (actor), the DOB may be entirely wrong, which is why I left a reference and comment in the infobox of that article. As can be seen at George Low and William Linn Westermann, LCCN occasionally searches Wikipedia for information on people also.

I did, however, take a look at the French language article on Chiwy -- which has only one source for the entire article. The source (see [2]) doesn't even give a date of birth. I don't speak French but I know how to look for a month and date. You can try. So it seems the English-language article has not only more sources but probably more reliable ones. My rare contributions to other WPs usually consist of adding the equivalent {{authority control}} template. Both the Washington Post and New York Times pass WP:RS with flying colors, so I have, in the end, just decided to add a note on DOB discrepancy with those papers listed as sources. @Intgr: This is the edit you are talking about, I presume. The edit summary of said contribution reads "dob and full name per lccn." See the {{authority control}} template near the bottom of the page for my source. The link immediately after LCCN: leads here to the American Library of Congress, which is a reliable source. The Trevor Sykes listed at LoC and WP are the same person, as both list The Money Miners as one of his works. Both the LoC and WP also mention Pierpont, his column/pseudonym. Thanks. If you use information from some external source in the article, then you should add a citation, especially if someone asks for it, and even moreso on articles about living persons. @Intgr: {{authority control}} is designed by MediaWiki engineers to house the authority files of many different databases, usually of national libraries or some such organization. Some authority files have their own template to use, ({{DNB portal}}, {{LCAuth}}, {{MathGenealogy}} and more), but the {{authority control}} template is easiest and preferred because it reads information directly from Wikidata. This migration of data has been around longer than I have been an editor, see the now-inactive VIAFbot for an example. Take a look around over at Wikidata. 2015 Ma–Xi meeting

Conversation between Ma and Xi during dinner got reverted/deleted. Ma & Xi's return from Singapore got reverted/deleted. Yet words and conversations from opposition parties, media, NGO and common people got all listed in the articles (including all of the fights near Legislative Yuan and ROC Presidential Office). It looks like the article content of the reactions to the meeting is much larger than the content of the meeting chronology itself. That is just plain not objective at all (tilting towards the opposition parties). Meeting is the main focus of the article, yet (from my point of view) we don't have enough content yet for such significant meeting in the history of Chinese civilization ever. Is there any other detail we can add to the meeting detail? Instead of just reactions to the meeting from 3rd people point of view? Sigh ... Chongkian (talk) 01:11, 12 November 2015 (UTC)

@Chongkian: The events of the relatively recent Sunflower Student Movement and the secrecy of the meeting plans may have something to do with the size of the opposition section. After all, plans were first leaked by Liberty Times and caused it to be a big deal, even if a direct announcement by the Ma administration would have achieved the same effect. What I'm trying to say is it does not surprise me that the opposition is making its voice heard. The South China Morning Post seems to have extensive coverage of the meeting, as they have organized all meeting-related stories into a thread I posted to the external link section. Oh ya, remember when we made those articles about 2014 ROC Local Election in which we took most of the date from ROC CEC (central election commission) website for the resources. But then after 2-3 months after that, all of the election data inside CEC is gone, thus making all of those links i've posted become dead link. I'm afraid this 2016 ROC legislative & presidential election data from CEC will also be gone next month. so is there any method to preserve these reference (either offline or make a mirror site (without violating copyright thingy for sure)) so that these Wikipedia election-related articles can always have its sources. @Chongkian: This means all CEC links must be tracked down and archived before they go dead. I'd use the Wayback Machine for that. Just copy and paste a CEC link into the search bar on that page (where it says only "http://", then click the gray "browse history" button. If that page is not saved on the Wayback Machine database yet, a box will appear and say "Save this URL in the Wayback Machine. Click that once, and it should save. When it saves, the web address will change into something that starts with https://web.archive.org... (Example https://web.archive.org/web/20160117023007/http://vote2016.cec.gov.tw/en/T4/n100000000000000.html. Last step: Copy and paste that full link into the WP reference. @Yoninah: Please see this section of my talk page for an explanation of how I access and use the Library of Congress Control Number. To summarize, the Library of Congress usually takes birth dates by quoting biographies of the person, or contacting the author directly. A previous editor had questioned the reliability of the LoC, a US governmental institution, but subsequent discussions I've had have largely restored it as a reliable source, unless it cites IMDb or Wikipedia itself, which it occasionally does (specific examples above).
I usually find the LCCN by way of viaf.org, the website of the Virtual International Authority File, which lists authority control data sets for many national libraries. Simply type a name into the search bar and see if the website returns any results, then copy and paste relevant data sets into Wikidata. The {{authority control}} template then calls on Wikidata to fill in the appropriate data sets whenever the template is trancluded. However, VIAF can also screw up and assign multiple data sets to one person, which often happens if the person has multiple pseudonyms. When I find those I post them to WP:VIAF/errors and let someone else handle them, because I'm not an expert on the inner workings of the MediaWiki software.

@Cawhee: Persondata has been deprecated since May 2015. As part of my edits to Wikidata, mostly concerning the use of {{authority control}}, I have been transferring the data formerly hosted on {{Persondata}} to Wikidata, and removing the persondata template from Wikipedia, replacing it with authority control, where applicable, instead. I thought I had fixed my error, and now, both the |title = and |name = parameters are filled with Mississippi Valley Conference (Wisconsin). Asian 10,000 Challenge invite

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. Yeah, finally after I've added more resources. But then again, that article might be lucky. While I always try to always add any new development/news about articles I have created (e.g. from Focus Taiwan, Taiwan Today, Taiwan News Online, China Post Online, Taipei Times etc), how about other article who has very limited source? There is nothing much I can do about it. If there are so many sources about one particular article, of course I will be happy to keep expanding (e.g. Islam in Taiwan). Nevertheless, other articles I have created which has few sources, many of them also only one source (excluding blogs). e.g. Chang Yu-sheng Memorial Museum, Chengkungling History Museum, Huoyan Mountain Ecology Museum, Rueylong Museum, Wulai Tram Museum, Yu Da Wei Xian Sheng Memorial Museum (and my other hundreds of Taiwan stub articles in which you can see by yourself)? I guess it is the matter of 'when' any of this article will got AfG-tagged, and we need to find more resources. But then again, there is nothing much written about them in the Internet. @Chongkian: WP:NOENG allows the use of non-English sources, if you are fluent in Mandarin. As a aside, this is why most of my article creations are about Taiwanese legislators; they are presumed notable via WP:NPOL. Your help there would be appreciated. For example, I am terrible at tables and templates and have been putting off trying to make Seventh Legislative Yuan look like Eighth and Ninth Legislative Yuan. @Wandelwiki: I removed Instagram and other links as a result of the guidance given at WP:ELMINOFFICIAL, but chose to replace them with the Discogs and Allmusic links because they seem to be often used for musicians. In a similar fashion, IMDb is used for many actors. The drawback of those links is that they are often incomplete for lesser known performers (to the English-speaking world). For East Asian entertainers, links to the Hong Kong Movie DataBase along with IMDb, are, I believe, considered standard, despite many instances of inconsistency and incompleteness (Chris Hung, Susanna Au-yeung, Yu Tian). If you wish, those links may be removed from Taylan Susam. However, I have already placed Susam's social media, official website, Discogs identifier, and Allmusic link at this Wikidata item, which I see you've edited before. Museum infobox vs. building infobox

On the 'museum infobox', why cant we key in the word museum in it in any of the parameter list (outside the title name)? When the infobox has been displayed, the word museum is not displayed on any of the infobox description, like the recently made Yilan Museum of Art. If we use 'building infobox', we can always write the type of the building, thus the word 'museum' will always be displayed, such as the one I made for Ama Museum which I used building infobox, instead of museum infobox. Because sometimes a museum may not necessarily has 'museum' word in its official name. Thus it is always good that we can specify if it is a museum, gallery, art gallery, etc Chongkian (talk) 07:30, 15 September 2017 (UTC)

I moved the Portal:Malacca to Portal:Melaka due to the fact that the name Malacca state has been officially changed to Melaka by the local government (http://www.straitstimes.com/asia/se-asia/malacca-now-known-as-melaka-says-state-government). I will note that this is my first time working with portals. As such, this is slightly out of my comfort zone, Chongkian, but after comparing the structure of the Malacca/Melaka portal to other portals, I see see there are serveral transcluded subpages on each portal. Portal:Melaka looks messy because none of the transluded subpages of Portal:Malacca have been moved to Portal:Melaka/subpage title. Because there are multiple moves that need to happen, I would suggest moving Portal:Melaka back to Portal:Malacca for the time being and gaining consensus for all Portal:Malacca/Melaka related moves before implementing them. I have noticed that Malacca is still located at the old spelling, and that page is jointly maintained by WikiProject Southeast Asia and WikiProject Malaysia. I would suggest letting participants of both WikiProjects know about the broken portal. I am not sure English language sources exist for Hsin (per this deletion discussion), though sources are not required to be in English. The article's zh.wiki equivalent is better sourced, and accessing references listed there may set you on the right track, especially if you are fluent in Mandarin. ANI Experiences survey

Beginning on November 28, 2017, the Wikimedia Foundation Community health initiative (Safety and Support and Anti-Harassment Tools team) will be conducting a survey to en.wikipedia contributors on their experience and satisfaction level with the Administrator’s Noticeboard/Incidents. @Txantimedia: The Virtual International Authority File (VIAF) is a form of authority control. Such datasets are used in library science for catalouging purposes. VIAF's website collects authority control identifiers from several national libraries and other databases and links them together. On English Wikipedia, those idenfifiers are meant to to displayed in {{authority control}}, which calls information from Wikidata. However, because drafts cannot be linked to Wikidata I have not placed the authority control template on Draft:Robert F. Turner. The information that will appear in the {{authority control}} for Turner's article, if it is approved by Articles for Creation reviewers, will be drawn from this link, which I included in my edit summary for ease of reference and access, and you posted in parentheses above. Hello, Vycl1994. Voting in the 2017 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 10 December. All users who registered an account before Saturday, 28 October 2017, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Wednesday, 1 November 2017 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

These are my only edits to Suskin Lee. I added his birth date and a place of birth to the infobox, according to the article's lede and "early life and education" section, respectively. Before I edited the article, Lee's place of birth and birth date were in the article itself, with citations. Vycl1994 (talk) 18:34, 17 December 2017 (UTC)
Oh,ok.
