Editors will express their opinions on whether the article can kept and an administrator will determine the concensus and then take the appropriate action after 5 days. Simply monitor the article content for POV violations, and keep pushing for reliable sources to satsify verifiability. You could go imagevio tag, but in cases like this I would typically do a WP:PUI listing. This gives 2 weeks for the user to understand, and if needed, contact and request a license and get it processed via OTRS. WP:COPYREQ may help the uploader understand as well. While I've come across many images like this, the user editing articles with the same name as the location on the source website make me believe they may be related to the website and have used it in both places, which is quite common. I upload many of my own works here, but also put them on Flickr and other places as well. Either way, I didn't think speedy was the right choice in this case; however another admin might have disagreed. MECU≈talk 17:19, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

You're welcome. About the only thing that can really be done is to monitor it, and revert and warn when it occurs. If it happens enough, then report to WP:AIV would be in order. I remember this being one of the articles I worked on when I was learning about Wikipedia, however while I don't much care about the deletion of the captain's letters your edits left an article that was much poorer then when you started, you might want to consider the nature of your editing in the future. Not a mistake

Hi thanks for bringing the matter of the HHC academy to everyone's attention. It's never wrong to raise a potential copyright conflict. It's actually not ununusual that there's an alternate explanation to copying the contents of a website. On one occasion I rescued text about a synagogue that the reporting editor did not notice was based on the 1911 Jewish Encycl - the same source that the website had used. I also carefully crafted an article (with others) on the history of a theatre, only to find it delete because it was word for word the content of a commercial website - they had copied it from here - without attribution. (I had to completely rewrite that one!). No the whole issue of copyright is a minefield, and I'm glad there are people who take it seriously; the principle in wiki is to err on the side of caution and you did nothing wrong here. cheers Kbthompson (talk) 12:51, 22 July 2008 (UTC)

HCCA

Guys, Many thanks for Wikifying the HCCA article. It's much improved as a result. I notice that citations are required for the information. Most of the factual information regarding results etc is collated and kept by me in the form of word documents. However, there is plenty of independent and external verification for the factual content. This can be found on various webpages and is mainly in the form of match reports on various college websites and in the Hackney Gazette. There are at least 4 articles about HCCA on Hackney Gazette Online currently. Other verification can be found via the British Colleges Sport (BCS), English Schools Basketball Assoc. (ESBBA), Northamptonshire Schools (NSBBA) under Moulton College, Cardinal Newman College websites as well as the information published on the London United website. References are set up in their own references section, and its best to make use of citation templates to do them. The syntax can be a bit daunting for an inexperienced editor so feel free to ask me questions if you have difficulty. Hi, I made a couple of contributions by adding a related section to people that are listed in Wikipedia as Spam Kings. The additions were removed. Today I noticed as I read on Wikipeadia about Winston Churchill that it had a section: "See also: List of stutterers." Is that the proper way to do it in Wikipedia? I noticed

I noticed that you have tagged several biographies of music professors created by User:Thenthorn for copyright violation speedy deletion recently. All appear to be violations of links in the form http://music.ucsd.edu/people/people.php?cmd=fm_music_directory_detail&query_Full_Name=+Rand+Steiger. The images in the articles also appear to come from that source, yet to be present on Commons. I checked one of the images in the Commons and I am unsure of the copyright status. The Images are CC Share-alike 2.0 licenses as taken from Flickr. The profile of the Flickr uploader states he is the manger of something or other at UCSD, and the photos are press photos. I already nominated all 6 of them in the pages you have thus far identified, as 6 separate commons deletion nominations. You might group the nominations though, as the issues will be the same for all of them. Generally speaking if someone is an employee of an organization, photos that they take in the course of their employment repsonsibilities will have copyright owned by the employer, but this is subject to specific contract/agreement terms. How does the article read like advertising? Do you even know what the guidelines for ad writing are? I do. I'm a copywriter by trade. Be that as it may, there is no stated opinion, "we", "our", "you", any other pronoun or directive speech which constitutes advertising's writing style. Therefore, I have no clue from where Whpq's comment came. Also, the reliable sources are in the market research conducted by SEMA, which handles the industry's research and reports these findings to the census bureau. I cited the association as a reference for a reason!

You have butchered our article. UIC College of Engineering is a satellite campus of the University of Illinois. The College of Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana has their own article and as many Colleges of Engineering articles on Wikipedia consist of a Research section. You also managed to get rid of our external links to our Departments.

When we said "not to change anything in our article", we meant for you to not delete anything since they are FACTS. We are the content experts with regards to our facts. Other contributors may add or modify them provided they do not strongly deviate from the facts.

You mentioned that we were acting biased and had a conflict of interest. I think you are the one who is biased because you are removing our Research section. Here is proof that other Colleges of Engineering have Research sections and external links to their Departments:

I believed that the guidelines were not followed and asked the administrator to review the decision. He agreed that he had made a mistake and closed the AFD as delete. I am trying to improve the quality of Wikipedia. Articles not meeting the inclusion criteria need to be deleted in order o maintain this quality. Thanks and I need some help

Thanks for editing out the text...it was something I did in the beginning but never quite removed. Anyway, I began this Category (WHO-Recognized English Medium Medical Programs (China)), and have so far tried to maintain it, and I need to have the "International Education College of the Xinjiang Medical University" listed under "X-" & not "I-" [XMU is it's parent university]

I guess my first question would be if that is the correct listing? Should the International College be listed in the category, or the university itself? If it should be the university itself, then the category tag should be moved to the university article. However, if it is the International college, the you should use a sort key like this: [[Category:WHO-Recognized English Medium Medical Programs (China)|Xinjiang Medical University, International Education College of]]. misplaced?

I imagine those "misplaced templates" suggest that they should be on the main article page; however it seems a bit much to over-emphasize the article's need for greater objectivity. By placing them on the Talkpage, the primary editors have the ability to see the various problems. I would prefer that you replace those notices...or place them on the main article. If you place them on the main article, you run the chance of alienating the writer, and of hurting his/her feelings. Truthfully, the main article belongs in Userspace until the many problems are addressed. By placing the notices on the Talkpage, the writer may be more inclined to digest (and discuss) the differences of opinion. Discussion is the primary objective here, not infuriating the writer. As for placing them into the main article, I did check the main article and found that it already had an {{articleissues}} template that covered the concerns so there was no need to add them into the article page. I've only glanced over the article, and wouldn't call it a hoax. It is however not very well written, and could use a heavy dose of copy-editting and addiitonal references. The citation request tags are useful for identifying specific facts that need sourcing, however, given the size of the article and the number of claims that are not sourced, I probably would have added a {{refimprove}} tag requesting an overall improvement in referencing. Hi there. I appreciate your good work in contributing to the monumental and frustrating task of clean-up on the 'Years in music' pages. I noticed that you deleted an 'unreferenced section' tag in favour of the general article 'refimprove' tag. I have to own up and say it's largely me who goes round sprinkling citation tags on the 'Years in music' pages, including within sections. Having been attending to this area for a while, I tend to find that placing tags within sections is still a good idea, partly because the articles tend to be lengthy (in line count), meaning tags at the top aren't always as effective, and partly because they tend to attract enthusiastic but somewhat careless contributors who might be more careful if there's a tag staring them directly in the face. I thanked Tagishsimon, and I had planned on officially showering honors on you after I had finished the cleanup (I'm still plugging away at his listings at Wikipedia:Copyright problems/2009 February 26; along with regular CP duties, other stuff, real life & the ongoing clean-up of another massive copyright infringer, this will probably take a few more days). But when I came online this morning (my time) and saw that not only had he been back at it, but that you had been vigilant and followed through at AIV, I decided to just go ahead. Thank you so much for noticing the problem and following through with it—not only in finding out how massive it actually was but in keeping an eye out for repeat. Shortlived category

You, together with User:Ascidian, just cleared out the backlog of unsourced BLPs from June 2006 (articles changed from refimprove June 2006 because they did not have any articles). It offended my sensiblities that June and July 2006 popped back into existence. The backlog is daunting enough as it is without us slipping backwards into months we though we had already cleared. I also notice you improved some of my refs by adding an archived link. How do I do this myself? I was a little confused about WebCite at first as well. The key page you need to know is the archive page. enter the URL you want to archive and provide your email address for notification purposes. You will get an email telling you either the archive has completed properly, or has failed. If successful, you will also be provided with a short URL for the archive. This is the URL you would add to the reference in the wikipedia article. Once you get the hang of it, you may want to try the bookmarklet which allows you to click on a bookmark in your browser and have it automatically initiate the archive process against the current web page. Normally, I won't resurrect these two month categories again, as I think all ref-related cats before August 2006 have been checked for unsourced BLPs now (many badly sourced ones left, but we can't tackle everything at once). All months starting from August 2006 may still see an increase of new unsourced BLPs though, by converting articles tagged with unreferenced or refimprove or something similar since then to the blpunsourced template where needed. This just moves them from one cat to another, the total amount of unref'd backlogged articles stays the same. Fram (talk) 07:28, 6 March 2009 (UTC)

I had a quick look and did a few things. The article is in very sad shape. The most appalling thing I see is that he is a shipping magnate, but the article makes absolutely no mention of how his shipping business was grown. In fact, the entire article reads like a tabloid. Having said that, I think there are too many tags applied. I've removed some of them, and in particular, the colonel affair section was overdone. If a section has been marked as confusing, that implies that copyeditting needs to take place to clear up how things are worded, so a copyedit tag is redundant. Similarly, if the section is tagged as relying on a single source, then it implies that reference improvements are needed and a refimprove tag is redundant. Indeed. I absolutely agree with you that this article reads like a tabloid. It is also a high profile article with about 20,000+ hits a month. That means many people read it. I don't want Wikipedia to read like a tabloid. I want it to read like an encyclopedia. One of the problems is that the article, at least in its most controversial parts, is being written almost exclusively from the Evans biography, making large and sweeping claims without any corroborating evidence from anywhere else. This is what motivated me to improve the article. So I tagged it and I also started a discussion on talk enquiring about the problems of the Colonel section and all I got in return was a massive, sockpuppet assisted, tagging counterattack on the articles that were listed on my userpage. That was of course after a few days of edit warring on Aristotle Onassis by sockpuppets which kept removing my tags. You are obviously a tagging expert. You are also a dedicated Wikipedian who likes to improve the project in a calm and competent fashion. You also help people like me when asked to do so. I could not have asked for a better outcome. I have asked many things from you and this goes against my philosophy, which is to tend to leave people alone, especially in a volunteer environment like Wikipedia's. But your excellent work and the massive good you have done to the articles I am involved with, leave no other option but to ask of you a final favour. Please keep an eye on Aristotle Onassis over the next few days, after the blocked user returns, and lend a hand as you see fit. I am grateful for your help. Take care.
