Playing card redirects[edit]

Hi XxTimberlakexx,

We don't really need dozens of redirects to playing cards. There would never be an encyclopedia article about, for example, the Two of hearts playing card and readers would not expect to find one. So Two of Hearts doesn't need a link to playing card. You might want to have a look at WP:DISAMBIG and WP:HAT to see what kind of disambiguation links are appropriate.

I don't know why the other redirects exist. The question is, if a user types "two of hearts" into the search box, what are they looking for? The answer is the song. Well, if you want to, although to be honest I think most of the redirects are harmless, and may even discourage someone from making a facile article about the Four of diamonds, for example. A redirect that points to Playing card is only problematic if it makes it harder for readers to find what they're looking for. For example, a redirect at Two of Hearts to Playing card makes it harder for readers to find the song of the same name, as well as necessitating a hatnote at Playing card that will be irrelevant to >99% of readers of that page. So I guess I was a little unclear before... it's not so much the existence of the redirects per se, as whether they help or hinder our readers.

Of course, you're welcome to nominate the other redirects for deletion if you want to see what other editors think. The best way would be to nominate them all in a single discussion per WP:BUNDLE.

If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. I really appreciate your many worthwhile additions to disambiguation pages, but since you are making so many such additions, I do encourage you to familiarize yourself with the Manual of Style for disambiguation pages. For example, regarding this edit diff to Hell (disambiguation), and many similar edits: Please do not add additional blue links to dab page entries. As stated in WP:MOSDAB, and in the note at the top of the edit page of every dab page, each entry on a dab page should have exactly one navigable (blue) link. I'm sure you have run across many pages where this guideline is not adhered to, but we are trying to clean those up and bring something close to a uniform style to disambiguation pages. No, you don't have to fix all your past edits. I've probably already fixed a few, anyway, and they'll all get cleaned up in time. Redirects[edit]

Hi, just to point out that you don't need to create redirects for different capitalizations of the second word of an article name. For example, entering "David smith" in the search box will automatically go to the article David Smith. Try it! Black Kite 15:45, 22 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Warning[edit]

Please cease creating spurious and misleading redirects. As mentioned above, you DON'T need to recapitalise certain redirects, and you are also creating misleading redirects.

For example, if there is to be a redirect Jokes On You, it should redirect to The Joke's on You, a notable album, or The Joke's on You (film) a notable film, rather than a non-notable song by a minor band.

Please use the search function before doing this. Editors have had to be blocked for creating massive amounts of confusing redirects - please don't let this have to happen here. Redirects should be useful and clear. Black Kite 14:55, 24 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Capitalisation[edit]

Yes, but they're pointless. Anyone typing "Darth vader" into the searchbox will be sent to Darth Vader even if the redirect doesn't exist. Anyhow, that's a separate issue - I'm more concerned about the redirects such as non-notable song titles or implausible sentences that you're creating - most of the Yahoo! answers ones were pretty pointless and could be confusing to readers who aren't sure why they've arrived at that page. We've recently had another editor doing this - a read of this version of his talk page may hold some good pointers to what are good and not-so-good redirects.
