I should copyedit those history articles that are ready...or polish off some main bios eg Lindwall or Hassett or just some others like woodfull or o'neill....My strategic reserve is dwindling :P :( .... The Bios are the most interesting. And you should get points for FAR saves - especially with substantial expansions. Well, you have a huge load of bios (which i cant wait for at FAC) - just they have ridiculously long leads. I dunno what happened to the Aus captain drive. I'm barely editing atm, a bit sick of wiki. I don't think I'll ever finish s waugh, taylor, border, simpson or any of those Vietnamese heads of state/govt, which are even less likely as I always get diverted into subarticles on coups and the like .... indent It might be worth trying to have a push on improving articles in Wikipedia:WikiProject Cricket/Key biographies or something next year: not necessarily to GA/FA, but a lot of them could do with a lot of work, and it would be a more global task. Problem with the Invincibles and the Aus captains, is that as an Englishman, I'm not all that bothered about them to be completely honest! I write about Somerset for obvious reasons, but I'd be happy to improve articles on other topics (a lot on women's cricket, particularly South Africa, for no good reason). So a project push on the key bios might attract attention. Of course, there's not many people really about in the project, so it may well fall completely flat, I don't know. Australia's strength in cricket[edit]

I see that the info box at Australia national cricket team does not reflect Australia's current match results record and "strength". I am the editor whom you blocked for 2 weeks. I had appealed to you to reconsider your action, which I had considered unwarranted. You did not do so, nor did you justify your action, except with a cryptic "block for POV and troll".

It is my opinion that you misused your administrative privileges in blocking me. I have seeked help with the help me tag on how I could proceed with your blocking me. However before that I assume that you acted in accordance with Wikipedia conventions and rules in handing the block and so I request you to kindly explain and justify your actions. Nothing personal here all this is for the betterment of Wikipedia. (I hope that your reply is in detail, quoting the exact statements that you consider justify your action, with necessary comments for explanation. Blocked editor humbly requests explanations[edit]

  1. The two emails landed in this editor's spam folder. You could simply have written a message on this editor's talk page. Now that has complicated the issue a little. Thankfully they were not deleted automatically as is done with messages in the spam folder and so were found by this editor. Both are dated 2010-10-02 around 3.00 pm and were retrieved only a while ago, after about 3 weeks.
    1. First message sent by you - Why are you fighting in such an inflammatory way? you have to stop
    2. Second message sent by you - If you want an unblock. No taunting, etc.
  2. Administrator you have rushed to block an editor for in your opinion pov and troll.
    1. When the editor requested you to reconsider the block, you have responded with emails to which you did not receive a response.
    2. You did not bother to use other means of communications such as writing a message on the blocked editor’s talk page or place a talkback tag, after a lack of response from the blocked editor.
    3. Surely you are aware that a blocked editor has as many options open for communication as a gagged cat.
    4. On the editor's part he waited for a response from you, and also let time pass so that his reactions would grow out of the natural impulsive nature it would have, as a result of the block. On receiving no communication from you the blocked editor decided to sit out the block, and look at the matter after his editing privileges were restored.
  3. The aggrieved editor would like to bring to your attention what Jimbo Wales wrote "Remember what we are doing here. We are building a free encyclopedia for every single person on the planet. We are trying to do it in an atmosphere of fun, love, and respect for others. We try to be kind to others, thoughtful in our actions, and professional in our approach to our responsibilities."
    1. Could you administrator kindly explain how your actions build an atmosphere of fun, love and respect for others

  4.     1. Thus administrator the editor's request to you to justify your action was a very natural response to the action you had taken.
  5. Please take notice of the following recommendations regarding blocking "Blocking is a serious matter. Administrators should be exceedingly careful when blocking. Blocks should be made only if other means are not likely to be effective; prior discussion or warnings should generally precede all blocks. Blocks should be used only to prevent damage or disruption to Wikipedia, and if there could be any reasonable doubt about whether a block is appropriate, other administrators and/or the community should be consulted. Following a block, the blocked editor should be notified of the block on their talk page, and additional notification on site may be appropriate to seek community input."
    1. What other means administrator did you consider before implementing the block?
    2. What made you administrator decide that these means would not likely to be effective?
    3. Did you administrator discuss before blocking?
    4. Did you administrator issue warnings?
    5. Did you administrator demonstrate that the editor's actions were disruptive and damaging to Wikipedia?
    6. Did you administrator consult other administrators before enforcing the block?
    7. What actions have you administrator taken when an editor taunted another editor following your block with the words "Thank god for that (add his talk page to your watch list and you'll see it). Hopefully his 2 week block will give our newer friend User:Zuggernaut some food for thought too on what happens when you behave like this."? Especially since you administrator consider taunting a serious offence deserving a block.
  6. Kindly administrator explain your actions in detail please point by point.

Hi YellowMonkey. I met Yogesh at Talk:Nazi Germany recently and saw the block in his history. I am under the impression that there was no warning (at least on-wiki, I see you sent him an email) and that the block length was excessive. I think I have never seen two weeks for a number of borderline disruptive talk page comments before. Maybe I have seen a 1-day block for that, after a stern on-wiki warning. (On-wiki is important because some users use a separate email account for Wikipedia and don't read that regularly.) Now Yogesh has an entry in his block log, and one that looks a lot worse than it was. Or did I miss something?

I told Yogesh to notify me if the block comes up later, and he has just left a message on my talk page. I did not advise him to write so much text. :) Hans Adler 19:56, 19 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors Backlog Elimination Drive!

The Wikipedia Guild of Copy-Editors invites you to participate in the November 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive, a month-long effort to reduce the backlog of articles that require copy-editing. The drive will begin on 1 November at 00:00 (UTC) and will end on 30 November at 23:59 (UTC). The goal for this drive is to reduce the backlog by 10% (approximately 500 articles). We hope to focus our efforts on the oldest three months (January, February, and March 2009) and the newest three months (September, October, and November 2010) of articles in the queue.

Wikipedia:Featured article review/To Autumn/archive1[edit]

I have listed To Autumn for FAR, but even I have some issues that a couple of users may be trying to add in OR, removing cited material, and replacing scholarly academic sources with sources of much lower quality (e.g. Sparksnotes). If all that needs to be reverted, there would be a fight over it; in either case, the article is looking at a delisting from FA as a result, because if it stays as it is right now, it would fail 1(c) as is. Hill 303 FAC[edit]

The issue of sourcing on the Hill 303 FAC has been explored by Fifelfoo and as a result I have removed or cross referenced all instances of two sources with questionable reliability, but the rest have been determined to be reliable. 1962 Ton Son Nhut Air Base Photo[edit]

Have updated the page for Tsn-1962.jpg. The caveat is that posted that photo in 2006 from a microfilm reel I no longer own. Moved very quickly in May 2007 and a lot of my boxes of "stuff" were left at my old address. Am pretty sure that was the reel obtained from the AFHRA, as it discusses the airport construction and expansion for USAF use in the early 1960s.
