Possible sockpuppet of User:Davenbelle[edit]

First, payment: Image:Bananas.jpg

The user to date had 3 known accounts. And a suspected 4th one (hence this request)

The relevant cases are (a select list for practical purposes)

Thats 1 RFC, 3 Checkuser cases, and 2 rfars. I feel I have exhausted all forms of dispute resolution and would prefer not to get indulged in it any more for this user.

Now in all fairness Davenbelle and Moby Dick were never confirmed to be sockpuppets because the checkuser logs expired before a check was run on Moby Dick. But both Davenbelle, Moby Dick edit from the same geographic region, Bali, Indonesia. Diyarbakir also "coincidentally" edited from Bali, Indonesia as well as the same computer as Moby Dick. Moby Dick and his confirmed sockpuppet Diyarbakir had been banned indefinitely.

The conduct of Moby Dick can be summarized as:

I suspect User:Jack Merridew, who is confirmed to edit from Bali Indonesia, may be a sockpuppet of Davenbelle based on the evidence I presented in the following case.

I was wondering your thoughts on the matter.

This latest edit I think demonstrates the wiki-stalking tendency best. -- Cat chi? 16:59, 10 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I do tend to be quite cynical when I find such things. See Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Starwood/Evidence. Have you looked for other opinions? Blnguyen (vote in the photo straw poll) 08:24, 11 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I did bring this in front of arbcom with the episode/character RfAr, but to date no arbitrator has added anything to the /proposed decision based on my evidence there. I would prefer to avoid WP:DR as much as possible on this as each and every step of DR feels meaningless in the context of this dispute. -- Cat chi? 23:53, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
The latest edit I mentioned above was over my recent attempted move of the gallery at Depiction of Jesus to commons on 11:02, 10 March 2008. There was one image (Image:Divine_Mercy_(Adolf_Hyla_painting)2007-08-16.jpg) licensed under fair-use in the gallery which was not commons compatible so I did not carry it to commons and removed it from the gallery of images. I further removed the fair use rationale from the image description page as it was no longer needed on 10:58, 10 March 2008. Now Jack Merridew reported my edits to User:Johnbod on 11:32, 10 March 2008. That is 34 minutes after I edited the image and 30 minutes after I edited the article. -- Cat chi? 14:23, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

1913 Liberty Head nickel GA progress[edit]

Sorry, I just noticed your comments on the talk page a day or two ago. I'll try to get some work done on that today with addressing your points.

A few responses to the issues you raised:

  • How would you suggest I emphasize that nickel=5 cents US face value without it sounding clumsy and out-of-place? I'm trying to think of something but am having difficulty deciding how to fit it in.
  • Expanding the lead has been previously suggested, but I don't want to simply repeat what is further down in the article.
  • "Finest" is indeed a technical term in this context; it means that the coin was rated higher on the "Sheldon scale" (a standard method of coin grading) than any of the other examples. See Coin grading for some details, though that article needs work.
  • I'll try to address the other concerns you raised as soon as I get the chance.

*** Crotalus *** 15:29, 19 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, I am a bit stuck but I just added one in randomly. Feel free to adjust if you wish. As to your second point, the point of the lead is actually to provide a summary and wrap-up of the article. I'll tweak the finest thing for so the uniniated like me can find reading material to clarify things for them. Thanks, Blnguyen (vote in the photo straw poll) 05:54, 3 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello!

Chaffe sep (talk · contribs) seems to be another sock puppet of Itihaaskar (talk · contribs). Evidence: he makes the same edits on Mariam-uz-Zamani (I mean as the latter's IP, 124.125.208.23 (talk · contribs), did)

I'm completely sure that he is his sock puppet. Could you please check it? ShahidTalk2me 07:08, 1 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, it's him. However he is on another computer. He appears to have two computers. I've blocked Itihaaskar for two weeks. Blnguyen (vote in the photo straw poll) 04:57, 3 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hello! Thanks for your intervention in the matter.
I would also like to clarify. I had an initial problem with the historical accuracy section being placed on the Jodhaa Akbar article. I thought it was irrelevant to the film article. He was reverting every single edit of mine (including formats, reviews I was adding etc.) and I eventually tried to collaborate with him anyway. But going through his text, I encountered lots of POV claims, misrepresentation and incohorence on there. So I started a discussion, a kind of an analysis, which he had not accepted and even ignored. The page was just unprotected, so using my analysis, I have rewritten the section. I'm sure, once he is unblocked, he will be reverting it to his version (because he is stuck by his opinion that Jodhaa Bai was not the name of Akbar's wife, although this claim is not factually approved). I hope we can make him understand how things are going on Wikipedia, and that we have to discuss things. In addition to that, I don't want the page to be protected because of new edit wars.
Best regards, ShahidTalk2me 16:11, 3 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I'll keep an eye on him when his block expires. If he being blatantly disruptive then I'll just ban him from the page rather than lock it if only one editor is messing it up for everyone else. Blnguyen (vote in the photo straw poll) 01:48, 6 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Pilbara craton[edit]

Hi, Blinguyen! Please, I want you to explain me one thing about the list of tasks to improve the Pilbara Craton article. You said there are some violations in the headers. My question is: Why do you consider First Major Tectonic Cycle isn't a proper noun? If it's necessary, I'll change the headers, but firstly, I need to understand the reasons. Thanks for your time. See you!--Fiquei (talk) 11:37, 3 March 2008 (UTC) If it is a proper noun, then ignore what I said. Blnguyen (vote in the photo straw poll) 07:11, 11 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Naadapriya[edit]

This editor has (as predicted) started dribbling his nonsense in Carnatic music. He assumes consensus is reached on frivolous grounds, sometimes where there has been no comment made by any other editors. As well as adding content that is not encyclopedic, he is adding POV and OR information, as well as entirely misrepresenting what reliable sources state, though mainly, synthesising material. The editor has been warned on several occasions both on the article talk page and on his own that such edits are not valid and may result in his ban, but he has chosen to ignore these warnings. He has not come spewing to my page here. Ncmvocalist (talk) 16:52, 6 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Unblock request needs clarification[edit]

This user: [2] is requesting an unblock, and you blocked them as a sock of Glitter1959. Could you perhaps provide some additional evidence of that on the users talk page. Such evidence would be helpful in informing other admins who respond to this unblock request. Thanks! --Jayron32.talk.contribs 04:05, 14 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm, I assumed he meant me. Regardless, being reasonably well educated the commenter would certainly know that Anti-Discrimination law is generally a matter for the states and there is no Australian (read: Commonwealth) Anti-Discrimination Act. See here for a precis. I am not sure there has been a breach of the act, nor which state's law would apply. It is my understanding that the law of the US state of Florida applies here. Further, I am not sure how anyone in that discussion has infringed on anyone's rights in any applicable matter, such as employment, housing, service provision etc. but once again, being well educated the commenter would be able to point out the infringement. Saying insulting things about various ethnic groups is not necessarily a breach of Anti-Discrimination law. He may be thinking of the Victorian Racial and Religious Tolerance Act 2001 rather than anti-discrimination law itself. Cheers, Mattinbgn\talk 04:21, 14 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

From Mattisse[edit]

I know you are busy but User:Redthoreau has templated me with a personal attack because I gave him a 3RR warning and have said several times that I would not edit the article anymore. I submitted a 3RR report, but I always malform them so they do not work. I know it is stupid to get involved over one article, and its not the article per se, it's the fact I cannot edit it without being reverted. Thanks if you can help. I understand if you can't. (You told me before that he is a sock, but I can't tell.) I know another account reverted me minutes after I put something in the article he did not want, someone who has never edited that article before. Sincerely, Mattisse (Talk) 01:05, 20 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for removing the template! The other user who did the one-time revert is User:Teh Rote for User:Redthoreau in case you have any ongoing theories in your vast network of knowledge! Mattisse (Talk) 01:25, 20 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks again! You are a real moral booster for me. At least you know the story and can can see what has happened. The sad part, the article is up for FAR but all editors have been driven away. There should be a "hall monitor"! Mattisse (Talk) 02:54, 20 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not a sock, but I do think you Mattisse may be insane. Would you stop your obsession and just go back to whatever you were doing weeks ago. Stop harassing me, and stop making false accusations about me to others. Redthoreau (talk TR 04:45, 20 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

DO I have any recourse[edit]

To stop Matisse's rampant vandalism. It appears you and him may be friends, as you keep removing my warnings of him for vandalism, but I am at a lost of what to do. He is removing substantial contributions which have been worked into the overall article and by inference he is also deleting other editor’s work who made their additions with the assumption of his edits being present. He is unreasonable and throwing a hige tantrum in an attempt to ruin the article when all I have done is try and be collaborative with him. Thanks. Max Mosley[edit]

Hi Blnguyen. Re your comments on the Max Mosley FAC, I assume that your concerns about recentism are basically that there is too much coverage of the 2005 USGP and the 2007 F1 season. I will chop those down, but if there was anything else that concerned you, please leave a note at the discussion.

On Ferrari/Schumacher bias. I agree in principle, but reliable sourcing may be an issue. I am looking for suitable stuff, but if you are aware of any reliable sources for this view (F1 pundits, for example) it'd be great if you could let me have the details. I saw the comment from User:House of Scandal that he didn't like lists on the DYK talk page. I have self-nom'd a list article. I did check the rules, and saw nothing there that disbarred lists from appearing on DYK. Are lists not eligible, or was it for some other problem with the article that it failed? - List of Tree Cities in Ohio Mjroots (talk) 07:09, 12 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Lists are eligible but only the general prose section is considered to be part of the length criteria. Sir, I am concerned about the attitude of user:Ncmvocalist who seems to be intent on creating a distraction and an unnecessary fuss over his opinions on this FAC. He has provided his initial opinions and his objection (which is fine), but is now trying some accusations. His behaviour is nothing short of obstruction of FAC. His latest comments are misleading and can be an unnecessary distraction to prospective reviewers.thank you.Dineshkannambadi (talk) 02:51, 25 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think Ncmvocalist has stepped beyond the bounds of acceptable conduct yet; he is a more stringent marker than the average FAC pundit, and is much more stringent than the average review on the subcontinent, where FA criteria 1a is basically never enforced. Ncm is probably the only guy apart from Vimalkalyan (talk · contribs) that reviews subcontinent articles regularly, and enforces the criteria at a higher level than the average; most other IMHO are way lenient. Unfortunately I can think of a few "modern era" post-2006 subcontinent FAs that passed about 10+-0 (none of these were from Karnataka) even though there were multiple unreferenced sections and paragraphs and some blog refs. If you think he is applying uneven standards on certain articles, then it might by good to compile some stats about uneven reviewing. I have got some of my own stats on certain parochial voting on WP which I might think of submitting to Sandy if the case arises in future, where I think some really biased voting blocs support their Wiki Project's content irrespective of quality, to get ppl to keep an eye on them more. I'm not really seeing anything which isn't allowed although if you think that some of the objections are unreasonable or a request you feel would be regressive, it's better to just move onto the prose things that Taxman and Tony mentioned. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 06:38, 25 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I looked at some of his recent FAC judgments including my own Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Double Seven Day scuffle and I'm not seeing anything particularly irregular. If he wasn't cracking down on all the other subcontinental articles as well, then I would have my eyebrows raised a bit more. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 06:38, 25 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. Actually, I was referring to this as well (dirty linen).

. You are right, the issues brought up by Tony and Taxman are very important and I have been etching away at them. If you know any other prose stylists, please do let me know. Awadewit is busy, another user whom she forwarded me to has not replied. ThanksDineshkannambadi (talk) 13:08, 25 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Dirty linen and trying accusations? It's been an ongoing dispute even prior to my arrival at Wikipedia (well over 2 years), and has yet to be resolved, even through a past mediation. The group, including DK himself, still shows no desire to resolve the dispute. While the ArbCom have assigned a working group, and requested them to try to make recommendations on how to deal with such disputes between certain ethnic/cultural groups, it is unfortunate that the issues still exist currently, and I am certain that this would affect the outcome of the FAC in a way that it shouldn't. So, hinting that more participation & feedback in this FAC should come from editors (preferrably knowledgable on the subject) whom are 'outside' of the Kannada ethnic/cultural workgroup (for the purposes of neutrality and objectivity), is not an obstruction to the FAC. It acts to be more beneficial for both the article, and Wikipedia, as the result would reflect the consensus of the broad Wikipedia community, rather than the biassed opinion of the Kannada ethnic/cultural workgroup. Even now, more editors from the Kannada sub-group continue to give biassed support votes (see Naadapriya's most recent vote in the FAC). Ncmvocalist (talk) 17:33, 25 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Once again, I ask that you stop pejorative use of "Kannada group" etc., and also your baseless accusations. Also, "...whom are 'outside' of the Kannada ethnic/cultural workgroup (for the purposes of neutrality and objectivity),..." is treading too close to a personal attack and can certainly be seen as a disruption of the FAC because it essentially only has to do with your own preconceived notions and prejudices against 'Kannada editors' and is not germane to the discussion on a FAC. Stop it now. Also stop claiming ethnic and linguistic divides where none exist. You tried to push fringe on Carnatic music with non-RS sources and it got thrown out. That doesnt mean you go to town with your conspiracy theories. I must absolutely ask you to stop your personal attacks and slander with immediate effect and I also request Blnguyen to take note of the attacks -- it has gone on for too long and it has to stop. If you disagree with anything that is written in any article or if you want to add something to the article, the simplest and surest route to do it is to come to the table with your WP:RS refs -- not with your conspiracy theories. Sarvagnya 19:06, 25 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I would also urge the above editor to cease indulging in personal attacks himself, as he has done on the candidacy page for the article in question. John Carter (talk) 19:10, 25 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
And I would urge you to stop seeing personal attacks where there's none. Ncmvocalist's fringe on Carnatic music and another articles(one of which you even helped him tag team revert war on) got thrown out because a) it was fringe and b) it was from non-RS (as WP:RSN established) and since then he's relentlessly carried on a smear campaign against those he pejoratively labels 'Kannada group' (see talk:Carn Music, FAC, this talk page, your talk page, his own talk page...). He accuses us of being biased and what not, but fails to come up with anything other than his own blanket assertions. It has to stop and it has to stop now. Sarvagnya 19:31, 25 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I believe the above statement may well qualify as a possibly willful misstatement of facts. He has used such phrases as "mudslinging", "petty slander", and "baseless accusations", and I believe the first two do clearly qualify as at best violations of WP:CIVILITY, and actually accusing someone of "slander" of any form is very likely a personal attack. I would also request that he cease indulging in usage of "Bullcrap" and other perjoratives, as he has already been warned to do on his talk page. I however do agree that the attacks from all sides, including him, have to stop now. John Carter (talk) 19:41, 25 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Petty slander is petty slander. Baseless accusations are just that and mudslinging is mudslinging. There is no other way to put it. Calling it what it is is not a personal attack. I am only attacking Ncmv's smear campaign and conspiracy theories. He is accusing me and several others of being Anti-Tamil and biased etc.,. He has no business commenting on us. If I were to retort calling him anti-kannada or something like that, then that would be a PA . I am only asking him to retract his smear and I am mincing no words in asking him to do that. Just because his fringe didnt measure up to the standards of WP:RS does not mean that he gets to run around calling us names and conjuring ethnic divides out of thin air. Maybe calling someone anti-Tamil isnt so bad.. but try calling someone anti-Jew/Nazi etc., and all hell breaks loose. I wonder why?! If you cant see things in perspective, you are welcome to stay out of this. You dont have to jump in with knee jerk responses everytime Ncmv throws a fit. Sarvagnya 21:50, 25 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The following 2 diffs here and here demonstrate unnecessary, unwarranted mudslinging on this FAC. Ncmvocalist (talk) 17:45, 25 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well the FAC got restarted again. Perhaps for the next FAC, it might be better to canvass the opinions of some regular reviewers who have opposed before so that the final FAC process can be smoother instead of attracting peripheral issues that make things harder for everyone. Oversight request[edit]

Hi Blnguyen. Can you have a look at the edit I reverted for BLP issues just before this edit? The details seem to be available in mainstream publications, but I don't like the idea of it being in wikipedia. Thanks, Andjam (talk) 12:47, 25 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Open a new poll[edit]

Hi!

I think we should open a poll to decide to choose whose version as "right article" of Qoigyijabu. There are the differences between my version and a version of a pro-Chinese Communist Party [6]. I remind you that User:PalaceGuard008 has agree with latest version (see here).

Thank you so much. Best wishes to you!

Help requested[edit]

As a sitting arbiter, I'd like some guidance based off of this thread that I've started at ANI: Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard/Incidents#Procedure_for_making_a_block_for_abuse_of_the_e-mail_function.3F. I'd appreciate any guidance you may have. -MBK004 04:12, 28 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The editor has been blocked temporarily, and this is not a pressing matter, but I am still interested in the proper procedure regarding blocking on e-mail alone (I've saved them). -MBK004 05:15, 28 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, I haven't really thought of this at all, except that I got an obscene email from a few people who were already banned so it didn't make any difference. As to whether people are going to know if an email is real or not, I dónt know. I can remember a few arbcom cases where people tried citing private emails from sting operations or double dealing and stuff and nobody wanted to guess as to whether the emails were real anyway. Once a sockpuppeteer mucked up and emailed my from both accounts with the same email, so I blocked them without a checkuser. Nobody complained, but that was likely because nobody liked that gụy I suppose the thing to do is to just bring it to ANI for each case. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 06:18, 28 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for that insight. -MBK004 15:39, 28 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject Beijing[edit]

Hey YellowMonkey/Archive79! I'm currently planning the launch of the WikiProject Beijing, depending on if enough other editors would be interested in such a project. I saw you have edited the main Beijing page recently or in several times in the past and therefor might be interested. If you are, please sign: User:Poeloq/WikiProject_Beijing. As I am posting this to quite a few editors, I am not watching your page and would ask you to reply with any comment or questions on my talk page. Cheers, Poeloq (talk) 21:29, 1 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
