My personal Bio that appears on wikipedia is factually inaccurate and I need help fixing it. Revised content appears below:[edit]

Darlene Grant, associate professor in the School of Social work and former associate dean of graduate studies with responsibility for over-site of all at graduate recruitment and admissions for the University of Texas at Austin. She joined the University of Texas in 1994.[1] She was named 2006 Social Worker of the Year by the National Association of Social Workers. She teaches in the areas of social justice, clinical social work practice, and chemical dependency and recovery. Thank you for requesting assistance with this instead of directly editing this yourself. Unfortunately the additional content you have added does not have appropraite verifiable sources. In fact the first reference is based on an archived page, which is no longer on the university's website. Help editing the label that showed up with my subject's listing once the page was published[edit]

Hello,

I recently wrote a biography entry that was approved and published. The problem is that the label assigned to my article is factually incorrect, and I'm not sure how to fix it since I did not write it.

The article is about Mary Johnson, American writer. Unfortunately, the label that shows up with her name when you search for "Mary Johnson" in Wikipedia is "Mary Johnson (American Writer, CEO of A Room of Her Own Foundation)". She is not the CEO, only a co-founder and a director.

How can I edit this or request a change?

Broken Table[edit]

It doesn't look defective as so much, it looks like someone interted some extra data that was unsourced, and unencyclopedic. I will revert the table to remove that extra data and we'll see what happens. Tiggerjay (talk) 04:46, 14 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

A couple of issues with Church maps[edit]

I have a number of issues with some of the maps for religious groups on here, most obviously Church of the Brethren, which someone really needs to look at because it has been had a major error for the last 3 years: File:Church of the Brethren map.svg

And the Anglican communion map, which I have a number of issues with, ie, a number of countries served by the US Episcopal Church are colored grey when they should be blue; Nepal and the Central African Republic are blue, despite not being served by any AC affiliate that I can find; Yemen and Iraq are grey, despite another wiki map saying that they are served by the Province of Jerusalem

And then there is Europe, which is a whole 'nother story because the same countries are served by the Diocese of Gibraltar and the ECUSA affiliated Convocation of Episcopal Churches in Europe as well as having members of the Porvoo Communion and the Union of Urtrecht.

Who do I talk to about these issues and, better yet, how can I make one of these maps myself? Is it something in wikicommons?--Bellerophon5685 (talk) 02:21, 14 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You can certainly go about making a map yourself, just make sure the changes you are introducing are supported with verifiable and reliable sources. Your map doesn't have to be visually similar, but simply needs to represent the same data, with the updates you propose. If you would like to know how these specific maps were created, or to request these ones to be updated, you can reach out to their creator. But that is kind of my technical problem - how do I make new maps? Is there some kind of software I need? If I could just point and click and make different countries/states different colors and create my own key, I could easily correct these mistakes myself. Well the helpdesk deals specifically with helping users on how to use wikipedia itself, however, you appear to be asking more of a generic computer question. I can think of a dozen or so ways to create a map like that. Font change in Afrikaner[edit]

Inaccurate Information about 'Gurkha Contingent' on Wikipedia[edit]

The information on he Wikipedia site for the Gurkha Contingent is inaccurate and is being manipulated by unauthorized members of the unit to the detriment of its public image. I would be most grateful if you would take immediate steps to remove this site in its entirety. Thank you for your assistance in this matter.

The only evidence of malicious editing is by you. Nobody needs to be "authorized" to edit articles on Wikipedia - see WP:OWN. The article will not be deleted but any content that is proven to be incorrect will be removed or replaced. Please post specific information about the inaccuracies at Talk:Gurkha Contingent where interested editors can evaluate your information and act upon it as necessary. Two talk pages that relate to the same article page[edit]

When I moved Autosomal Dominant Cerebellar Ataxia to Autosomal dominant cerebellar ataxia it's talk page Talk:Autosomal Dominant Cerebellar Ataxia failed to move to Talk:Autosomal dominant cerebellar ataxia because Talk:Autosomal dominant cerebellar ataxia already existed. The previous Autosomal dominant cerebellar ataxia had been deleted as a Copyvio, but it's talk page got left behind.

Hi there,

I am writing an article – Bank of Chester County – and I'm not sure why there's a cite error; I'm copying and pasting certain formatting, though I'm unsure of how to fix it. Assistance would be greatly appreciated, sirs and madams. ;) (And frankly, I'm quite alarmed...I didn't expect Wikipedia to be this jargon-ated!)

Because the article was quite short when you began expanding it, yes I believe it's eligible, because your additions today have made it 5x larger. learning to use Wikipedia[edit]

Why is it that, when I try to practice formatting techniques such as italic or ==Elizabeth II== in the sandbox, they do not ever format as italic or as a bold headline, as they should? I took a look at your tests. You accidentally "broke" the sandbox page when you removed the "-->" at the end of the coding at the top of the page. Can an experienced editor please look at Deathstep and determine if the two cites (1 and 2) are reliable and, if they're not, remove them. I've never edited the article, but I noticed that someone added a PROD tag yesterday, which was then removed by an IP with this edit, where s/he added the two questionable cites. Not always. The article has only had a few editors and I wanted to get a neutral opinion on the quality of those cites. That's why I came here. For the record, I am not a fan of WP:BRD because I find many editors abuse and misinterpret it. Two hours seems like nowhere near enough time to wait for "someone who cares" to see and respond to a request. I'm given to understand that there are people out there who have lives outside WP , and it seems more reasonable to wait a day or two or seven for them to reply, given the mantras of "AGF", "no time limit", and all that.
Urbandictionary is a pretty low-quality source for many things, but might be reasonable for something as subjective, variable, and cutting-edge as music genres, especially when apparently independently corroborated. I didn't recognize any of the examples given, so I'm certainly not able to render an opinion (other than feeling rather old just now ). —[AlanM1(talk)]— 12:03, 15 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Urban Dictionary is an unreliable source, consisting of user-submitted content, with attempts at regulation by volunteer editotrs, rather like Wikipedia. The other source cited seems to be even more unreliable, as it does not even have the limited attempt at regulation that Urban Dictionary has, and allows anyone who chooses to create an account to upload anything. First, putting aside your sarcasm, this isn't an individual editor's talk page; it's the help desk, which is actively monitored 24/7. So two hours, particularly when all the threads posted after it had already been quickly responded to at the time, was reasonable. More importanly, the two hours I gave was purely as a courtesy. It was all bonus time because I could have simply removed those two cites immediately, without seeking any opinions. Like most editors, I normally do not seek input on the reliability of cites. The only reason I did so in this instance is because I wasn't familiar with those two websites or how cites for an odd subject like a music genre are typically handled. And for the record, even if I had posted it on an editor's talk page, I could of course simply have looked at their contributions log to see if they edited after I posted the comment, thus knowing if they received my message. Rudolf, how often do editors start a discussion on an article's talk page simply and solely to ask if a source is reliable? Relatively speaking, I'm sure it's quite rare because it's typically unnecessary. Fortunately, a great editor/admin (JamesBWatson) subsequently assured me that removal of the cites was clearly appropriate. In fact, I wrote to James after I removed the cites just to make him aware of it; I noticed that he had previously reverted some content in the article. Table in Wikipedia.[edit]

Ok, so I am using a Wikipedia article with first column, and I made a small copy of it to my sandbox, and I created another column for a alternative date. In other words: Original Broadcast (C1);Original Broadcast (C2)

Is there a way to use {{sortname}} to link to a section within the page in which the template appears? For example, I will attempt to link to the above section, "Table in Wikipedia." by linking to "#Table in Wikipedia.":

Deletion of the article "Nino Micozzi"[edit]

I am not trying to blame anyone here, but I think that the article "Nino Micozzi" posted by me should not be deleted. I provided 7 different references and I just want to point out that Nino Micozzi (which I also know personally) is at the same level of Lelio (Les) Marino, which seems to have a Wikipedia article that provides far more less information than I provided on Nino Micozzi : Lelio Marino

Well, I don't see how that could be considered "significant". The information I provided on Nino Micozzi was rather similar to Lelio Marino (I mentioned his company, and his donations to Mitt Romney and Scott Brown's campaigns and his acquirements of apartments). Lelio Marino used to have a similar business but almost nothing is said about his biography in the article.

The page was deleted by User:INeverCry, with the explanation "(A7: Article about a real person, which does not indicate the importance or significance of the subject)". This does not say that the person is not notable, but that the article does not establish that he is notable - usually because there are not enough citations of significant mentions in reliable sources independent of the subject. I cannot see the deleted article, so I can't tell what it contained; but I suggest you ask INeverCry on his talk page User Talk:INeverCry.
As for the other article you mention: it is possible that that also should be deleted. WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS is never accepted as an argument of any weight.
And given that you know Micozzi, you should be aware of Wikipedia's position on editors with a conflict of interest. --ColinFine (talk) 22:52, 14 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Can you honestly say that an encyclopedia of general knowledge should contain an article on a local real estate investor? Would you have petitioned Encyclopedia Brittanica to include him? I went to school with a guy that ended up owning a fair amount of commercial real estate in Los Angeles and Miami, and even IPO'd a piece of his firm a few years ago. I play cards with two others that own thousands of rental properties in Los Angeles. I certainly wouldn't propose to write articles about any of them, and despite their significant egos (), I don't think any of them would propose to either. —[AlanM1(talk)]— 11:48, 15 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
