How do I publish after my article is revised???[edit]

I am working on a wikipedia page as an assignment for a class. I attempted to have to article published but had it returned. I made the revisions requested and am attempting to request publish again, but I cannot find a "publish" button like there was the first time. What do I do? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Eden.graham (talkcontribs) 00:14, 30 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

In this edit you deleted the template which gave you the ability to resubmit. I have reinserted the template for you. - David Biddulph (talk) 00:24, 30 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The tv series, in 1960-70 period. There was an island where the people greeted each other saying "we are not thieves".[edit]

There was a captain who traveled with his yacht in the Pacific or Indian Ocean, He came to an island where he noticed that the people of the island were greeting each other "We are not thieves"..He was very curious about why the people were greeting each other this way. This is what he found out: In the 18th or early 19th Century, these men and women were descendant of people who were branded as convicts and condemned by the British Government for transport to New South Wales, Australia., Somehow they either survived a violent storm or commandeered the ship they were transported, came upon an island and survived.. Their crimes were petty crimes like stealing shirts, embroidery or just a few pennies. They did not consider themselves as thieves so they were greeting each other by saying "we are not thieves". This sort of greeting persisted. They survived and married and multiplied., But the fear of being discovered and be transported to New South Wales has stayed with them. The leaders of the group prevented any escape from the island lest those who escape may reveal the location of the island, subject being rediscovered and condemned again for transport to New South Wales.. Only the leaders had the knowledge of the use of a sextant and other navigation instruments.. They kept the knowledge of use of those instruments very secrect. They multiplied, they built houses and other dwellings in the architectural models of the old England.. Their language was old English. When the captain arrived with his yacht, they did not allow him to leave the island for the same fear.. But the captain was able to leave the island, convincing them there is no more fear of being transported to Australia as convicts , it was the 20th Century, and they were not considered convicts any more. This kind of story has always intrigued me that it was a possibility.. If I could find the movie I would like to see it again. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.249.104.159 (talk) 03:46, 30 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Have you tried the Entertainment section of Wikipedia's Reference Desk? They specialize in answering knowledge questions there; this help desk is only for questions about using Wikipedia. For your convenience, here is the link to post a question there: click here. I hope this helps.. RudolfRed (talk) 04:30, 30 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
In case the OP doesn't go to the ref desk and looks back here, I believe the TV show in question was an episode of Adventures in Paradise, starring the notoriously wooden actor Gardner McKay. Deor (talk) 13:29, 30 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Question Re; Capitalization In The Name Of An Article[edit]

Looking to capitalize the first letter of each word in the title of the following article (see link below). I don't seem to have access to this option after completing significant edits.

NCAA Division I men's lacrosse records

Please advise.

Regards,

Adam — Preceding unsigned comment added by Anagler (talkcontribs) 06:20, 30 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You will be able to change the name of a page when your account has been registered for four days and you have made ten edits with it. However, before then please check out WP:TITLEFORMAT, as the usual convention here is that only the "First word is capitalised". We don't "Capitalise Every Word". This applies to section names within articles too. -- John of Reading (talk) 06:54, 30 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Such a format is only allowed when the article title is the official proper name of the subject; such as a personal or organisation name or the title of a book, film, etc. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 08:50, 30 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I've fixed the section headings in the article per WP:HEADINGS. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 09:01, 30 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

References[edit]

I have a very general question.

How do I reference using Wikipedia? I have yet to find a page stating this information. I'm reading about 'PANTHEIST'. Thank you. Dawn Tabb Tabbdawn (talk) 09:53, 30 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

If you mean, how do you use one Wikipedia article as a reference in another Wikipedia article, the answer is that you don't. For further advice on referencing, start with Referencing for beginners.
And I've deleted your email address from your question, in the hope of avoiding spam (see the bold message at the top of this page, saying "Do not provide your email address or any other contact information. Answers will be provided on this page only."); if anyone wishes to communicate with you, they can do so via your user talk page, or through the "Email this user" link under "Toolbox" on your user page or user talk page if you and the prospective sender of the message have both enabled email in your preferences. - David Biddulph (talk) 10:23, 30 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

TMF Group[edit]

Hi there,

I am the global digital marketing manager at TMF Group and I would like the ability to edit our Wikipedia page.

some of this information is factually incorrect so needs to be changed.

Please can you let me know who has access or remove this page so I can start again.

Many thanks,

Emma Wodehouse Global Digital Marketing Manager at TMF Group — Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.85.75.162 (talk) 10:27, 30 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for asking, rather than just diving in and editing. You will find relevant advice at WP:Conflict of interest. - David Biddulph (talk) 10:34, 30 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
You may also want to bring up your issues on the talk page for the article, which can be found at Talk:TMF Group. This may give you an outlet for your concerns that won't run awry with WP:Conflict of interest. Zell Faze (talk) 18:07, 30 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Dashes[edit]

Why do normal dashes/hyphens get replaced by longer dashes? Does this really matter? If yes, where to find this key on my keyboard? Thanks, Lesion (talk) 11:40, 30 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Expand Autocollapse Table[edit]

In the article, alcohol laws of New Jersey, there is a table at the bottom of the page linking to the alcohol laws of other states. It uses the Template:United States topic template which is autocollapsed. In all the other alcohol law series (e.g., alcohol laws of New York, alcohol laws of Missouri), the box is expanded. Because there are other collapsible tables in the alcohol laws of New Jersey article, the table is collapsed. How do I override the autocollapse feature, and made the table expanded even if there are other tables in the article? DavidinNJ (talk) 13:56, 30 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You can add |state=expanded inside {{United States topic. And they are known as navboxes not tables --Ushau97 (talk) 15:54, 30 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Full code would be {{United States topic|state=expanded}}.--ukexpat (talk) 16:00, 30 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Two revisions of the nematode article are identical, yet one shows a ref error and the other doesn't[edit]

The 11:30, April 29, 2013‎ version (the current version) of the nematode article shows a red error in the "Nematode systematics" section: "Cite error: A set of <ref> tags are missing the closing </ref> (see the help page)." But this 16:06, April 28, 2013 version does not show that error, despite having the exact same wikicode. Here is the diff. What's happening here? And how can I fix the error I'm seeing? (If this is the wrong forum for this question, I apologize, and could you direct me to where I can get some help understanding this?) – Quadell (talk) 14:00, 30 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know what was causing the problem, but a purge seems to have cured it. - David Biddulph (talk) 14:29, 30 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Someone blanked the template that controls the error messages and it probably got cached for that page. I protected the template. --  Gadget850 talk 12:17, 1 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

correction[edit]

I Googled "Ambler Borough PA boundary" and clicked on the Wikipedia site. It said on the site that Temple University Ambler Campus is in Ambler Borough when, in fact, it is NOT. It is in Upper Dublin Township. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.225.198.232 (talk) 18:11, 30 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You appear to be right. It looks rather as if the Borough of Ambler is smaller than what people think of as Ambler, and somebody has added the Temple University Ambler campus to the article for that reason (that article does not explicitly say what community it is in, but has an Upper Dublin Township template).
I'm not sure what is the best thing to do. As it stands, the statement is wrong; but might somebody come to the article wanting to know about Ambler, and not knowing or caring that the Borough is only part of what is referred to as Ambler? You could simply remove the sentence from the article (with a suitable edit summary); or perhaps edit it to say that it is near Ambler but not actually in the borough. It might be best to open a discussion on the talk page Talk:Ambler, Pennsylvania, and get consensus. --ColinFine (talk) 22:36, 30 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I've edited the article on Ambler, Pennsylvania and put a note on the talk page. Robert McClenon (talk) 00:41, 1 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I suspect, based on your question, that you found one of our over 4 million articles and thought we were affiliated in some way with that subject. Please note that you are at Wikipedia, the free online encyclopedia that anyone can edit, and this page is for asking questions related to using or contributing to Wikipedia itself. Thus, we have no special knowledge about the subject of your question. You can, however, search our vast catalogue of articles by typing a subject into the search field on the upper right side of your screen. If you cannot find what you are looking for, we have a reference desk, divided into various subject areas, where asking knowledge questions is welcome. Best of luck.

How to edit wiki page?[edit]

Hello, When I try to edit page, save it and when i get back to that page everythins is ok but when I load page after few minutes everything is gone.

This is that page. http://de.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Flughafen_Wien&stable=0&shownotice=1&fromsection=Einzelnachweise

And if you go to bottom of page where it says Einzelnachweise you will find a list of websites. Im trying to add mine to that list. I found site like mine in that list so mine site belongs there also.

Can anyone please help? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 62.178.119.119 (talk) 19:48, 30 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

This is the help desk for English-language Wikipedia, and your question is about German-language Wikipedia, where they have different rules. But I suspect that advertisements for taxi companies are as unwelcome there as they would be here. Maproom (talk) 20:05, 30 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
(ec)This is the Help Desk for the English Wikipedia, we cannot help you with problems on the German Wikipedia, however a look at the history of the article will show that your edits have been reverted by other editors. You can discuss the reasons on their Talk pages. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 20:07, 30 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

If advertisment for taxi company is unwelcome why is the taxi company in list using keywords important for SEO.I just wanted to add a link for my website, without anchor text. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 62.178.119.119 (talk) 20:53, 30 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know what you mean by the last question. Wikipedia (at least the English Wikipedia) does not care about SEO, and if you care about it you shouldn't be at Wikipedia. The last person who reverted your edited invited you to look at de:WP:WEB. --ColinFine (talk) 22:46, 30 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Einzelnachweise means references. It's a list of references for the content of the article. If you click the arrow ↑ next to a reference then you get to the place it's used, where the reference number is shown. References are auto-numbered by their placement in the article. Your link is not a reference and absolutely doesn't belong in a reference section. It also seems inappropriate for the much smaller weblinks section. PrimeHunter (talk) 23:29, 30 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The German Wikipedia's Help page is there, please use that page, not this one. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 09:28, 1 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Wikibooks[edit]

I just noticed that http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Category:Recipes could use a new template like Template:Large category TOC which doesn't seem to exist over there. I would try and fumble through it myself but don't want to break anything.--Canoe1967 (talk) 21:45, 30 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

That seems completely unnecessary. There are only 2740 pages in the category, corresponding to 14 category pages. Most letters use less than a page. Template:Large category TOC would make it much harder to navigate the category when you have to scroll the TOC to get to a letter. PrimeHunter (talk) 23:19, 30 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I just tried pages in "C" and they didn't all fit, I thought they were cats.

Disambiguation page vs. set index[edit]

What's the difference between a disambiguation page and a set index? Revolution1221 (talk · email · contributions) 21:45, 30 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I am not entirely sure what you mean by a set index. Do you mean the table of contents at the top of a typical Wikipedia page? If so, whether to use a table of contents for the multiple sections and subsections or a disambiguation page depends on whether it should be one article, or multiple articles about different subjects that have the same name. Can you clarify? Robert McClenon (talk) 22:28, 30 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Revolution (and, sort of, Robert): Does WP:SETINDEX answer your question(s)? If you still have questions after looking at that, you can come back here with more specific questions. --Floquenbeam (talk) 22:32, 30 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
That's clear enough to me. Both are lists. A set index is a list of things of the same type, possibly with different names. A disambiguation page is a list of things with the same or similar names that may be of different types. Robert McClenon (talk) 23:43, 30 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
For instance, Lake Erie will take the reader to the article about one of the Great Lakes. It has a disambiguation page that lists other things with the name Lake Erie (disambiguation), which include a United States Navy cruiser. A list of United States Navy cruisers would be a set index. Robert McClenon (talk) 17:42, 1 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
