Edit box message[edit]

I've done this before, but forgot how... How does one put a message in the 'Edit' pane? E.g.: add a {{Australian English}} template so editors won't keep "fixing" spelling. ~:74.60.29.141 (talk) 00:40, 24 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Edit notices take attention from editors and are usually only added in response to repeated problematic edits to a given article. If editors haven't been changing the dialect of English then an edit notice about it is unnecessary. And if we started making preemptive edit notices then there are many other hypothetical issues they might as well warn about. PrimeHunter (talk) 02:01, 24 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Content tagging for schools[edit]

Recently YouTube started providing a service where content requests coming from the user are tagged with a code that identifies the user as coming from a school. The result is that only pre-approved (by educators)content is returned to the requestor. While this goes a long way toward safe use in schools it does not take away all of the liability from the educator because some educational content is not appropriate for certain age levels (i.e. a high school anatomy class content probably won't be appropriate for elementary level children). I can't find anything like content tagging (Wikipedia is not censored), but you should read Wikipedia:Advice for parents; and you might be interested in another independent project, the Schools' Wikipedia. I did find this: Help: Options to hide an image - which provides some useful information such as preventing images from MediaWiki: Bad image list from being displayed. Note however, this requires editing your account's javascript page. There are relatively simple ways to prevent ALL images from being displayed. Hidden flaw in table generated by template[edit]

Can someone figure out why my template isn't working? I have the feeling I'm missing something obvious here. Most of the tables in Template:Canadian first minister list/testcases, which use Template:Canadian first minister list/sandbox, are working fine. The exception is Arthur Meighen, who for some reason starts a new table with its own column widths rather than joining the rows above him. This almost certainly has to do with the fact that the entry above him, Robert Borden, has special coding to give him three rows. I've searched through the template for stray newlines and other common problems, but I can't figure out what's going wrong. It appears to work if * is removed from {{#switch:{{{2nd_event1}}}|election= *... in Template:Canadian first minister list/sandbox. I don't know why * causes the problem but maybe the list code interacts with the table code in some way. Oddly, if the source of Template:Canadian first minister list/testcases is entered at Special:ExpandTemplates then it works with * still present in Template:Canadian first minister list/sandbox. You're right. It looks like a </tr> can't be inside a bullet. I added newline before the </tr> to put it outside of the <li></li>, and that seems to have fixed things. —Arctic Gnome (talkcontribs) 05:52, 24 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I found the problem: The entry for #8 has an error in the 2nd series of events. It should be:

How to create a company profile in Wikipedia.[edit]

Hi,

Am working for a cable company, and i wish to create a profile in Wiki for the same company. I want more information regarding this. As of now i just created a page in name of Diamond Power Infrastructure. But I want ot create a profile of this company. You don't. Wikipedia does not do company profiles - we have encyclopedic articles about companies if and only if they (the articles) comply with our notability requirements. As you have declared that you work for the company you have a conflict of interest and as such you are strongly advised not to write about your employer - or any other subject that you are closely associated with. The "article" you wrote has already been deleted as unambigious advertising or spam - Wikipedia may not be used to promote any person, event, organisation or cause. How do I provide a reliable source?[edit]

The article being considered for deletion is not Jeff Grayson, but Jeff Grayson (sportscaster). The templates on the article have given you links about verifiability and reliable sources, and in addition on your talk page you have been given a link to WP:Referencing for beginners. Have you read those? If you are saying that you have been unable to find reliable sources regarding the subject, then deletion would be in accordance with policy. - David Biddulph (talk) 14:51, 24 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Article about 714X[edit]

Good Day,

I posted a message here months ago but never got an answer.

I am representative for Cerbe Distribution Inc. (Canada) owned by Gaston Naessens (inventor of the 714X) and manufacturer of the product. The article about 714X contains false information and we would like to correct it. We have references to prove it and you will agree that Gaston Naessens himself is the best reference as far as the somatidian orthobiologie and how its product works in the body.

We are not arguing about your NCI reference but at least let us put the exact information about the product and how it works.

Fairplay (magazine)[edit]

Hi,

Please can you change the title of this page, found at Fairplay (magazine), from Fairplay (magazine) to read IHS Fairplay? I am the managing editor for this brand and further to an acquisition two years ago it is no longer just a magazine, rather it represents a portfolio of products. I emailed about this last Friday (18.01.13) also but have not heard back.

The article appears to be about only the magazine - not the "portfolio of products". As you have a conflict of interest you are discouraged from editing the article directly but you are welcome to post your information - with citations to independent reliable sources on the article's Talk page. Abortion article wrong - map lists Australia as varies but source used to cite it clearly states that it is legal...[edit]

It seems I can't edit or even leave a comment on the Talk section because I haven't made 4-10 other edits. Frankly it took me ages just to work that out! Abortion in Australia states that the degree of legality varies from state to state. It doesn't look like it is completely illegal anywhere in Australia, but the conditions under which an abortion may be legal do appear, at first glance, to vary somewhat. --Jayron32 17:57, 24 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Brian Fallon -- Sidebar google serach via wikipedia[edit]

I work for the management company of The Gaslight Anthem. The issue is not with Brian Fallon's actual wikipedia page but with when you google search his name and the info. that wikipedia posts to the right side bar. ie. name/spouse/record label (under images).

Only this sidebar lists his spouse as Hollie Fallon, but his wikipedia page doesn't even mention her. We want this removed immediately as this is inaccurate.

Also, the side bar lists his labels as "SideOneDummy Records, Resist Records" when it should really be "Mercury Records, SideOneDummy Records." The actual wikipedia page acknowledges that they've worked with SideOneDummy Records in the past and now are working with Mercury.

I've tried to report this info. wrong several times and we need this rectified immediately.

The wrong information is not from Wikipedia but I can understand your confusion. Google has a recent feature where the right side of searches sometimes shows information collected from both Wikipedia and other unnamed sources. The Wikipedia part ends at "Wikipedia". Your brian fallon search first shows the start of the Wikipedia article Brian Fallon, and later claims "Spouse: Hollie Fallon" with an unnamed source. If you click "Feedback / More info" below Google's claims then you can click "Wrong" at the wrong fields. I don't know how Google treats such feedback but maybe Google eventually removes the claim if enough people say it's wrong. Here at Wikipedia we have no power over or inside knowledge of Google. None of your terms appear in our article Section 8 (housing) and I din't find any other article in searches. I suspect, based on your question, that you found one of our over 4 million articles and thought we were affiliated in some way with that subject. Please note that you are at Wikipedia, the free online encyclopedia that anyone can edit, and this page is for asking questions related to using or contributing to Wikipedia itself. You can add a page to your Watchlist by clicking on the star near the top right of the screen. If you then view your Watchlist page you will see a list of the latest edits to those pages. Violation of WP:Vandalism[edit]

Hi, I was wondering what is considered vandalism on Wikipedia pages by editors?

If a user deletes a lot of content on a page stating an opinion on why it should be removed, is that vandalism? I am new here and just started reading the policies, but was under the understanding that there should be discussion and consensus found between Wikipedia editors before content should be removed, unless the content blatantly violates wikipedia policy? No, if the editor who makes a change appears to honestly believe that there is a good reason for the change, then it is not vandalism. Sometimes it can be hard to tell whether or not they believe this, but we are enjoined to assume good faith. If a change is likely to be contentious, it is a good idea to discuss it first, but this is not a requirement. If you disagree with a change somebody has made, you may either revert it (giving a meaningful reason in the edit summary) or bring it up for discussion on the talk page. If you do revert it, nobody should reinstate the change without discussing it first.

Film release date[edit]

I'm mulling over an issue w how a film should be categorized. If a European movie premiered at a U.S. film festival (NOT to the general public) in 2011, and was then changed considerably and first released in 2012 to the general public in U.S., and then released in 2013 to European audience, wouldn't the proper page title be MOVIE (2012 film) since that's when it premiered to the general public? If a movie is available for purchase in 2013, and I look for info on it in Wikipedia, I would understand (2013 or 2012 film) but I would pass over a 2011-marked film. Or would it be 2013 film since that's when it premiered in its home country, and was first available in theaters and for purchase (2012 only allowed online "rentals" whereas 2013 is its first opportunity for the general public to see it in select theaters or purchase it).
