ISBN or isbn coding when formatting book sources.

@Jgrantduff: Please give an example of the perceived problem. Do you mean ISBN 978-6-224-06319-7 in [1]? That appears to be invalid. Where did you get it? I don't get any Google hits on it but ISBN 978-0-224-06319-7 works (also in references), so I guess you or somebody else got a digit wrong. PrimeHunter (talk) 01:06, 28 December 2015 (UTC)

(e/c) Hey Jgrantduff. You had a typo in the isbn that I've fixed. It's 978-0... not 978-6... The software recognized that there was a problem. By the way, please remember to sign your posts on discussion pages like this one (but never in articles) by adding adding four tildes (~~~~) at the end. you can also click on the signature button ( or ) located above the edit window which will place them for you. Baffled by "Usernames" in Article Revision History

I was checking the revision history on an article and noticed a series of changes made by a "user" with the identifier, "2601:58c:0:2c9c:d987:2c37:204c:f236." Although I am used to seeing IP addresses as surrogates for user names, this was the first time I have noticed this format. A number of changes were made by this user and at least one other with a similar identifier to the article over the past few days. I would appreciate it if you could shed some light on what an identifier with this structure on an article's history page signifies.

No more deletion reason?

I think this may be related to this archived thread from October. When you visit a deleted page without having logged in, the software only displays the deletion log if the page was deleted in the last 24 hours. How to enable the enhanced editing toolbar by personal js page?

Hi! I'm a WikEd user, so enhanced editing toolbar is redundance for me in most of time. But in editing module pages, its highlight function is very useful.

I want to install the tool by JS page rather than Special:Preferences. Is there any way do like this:

List of surviving WWII veterans

I've been trying to add my father to your list of surviving WWII veterans completely without results. He served in both WWII and Korea in the US Navy and US Airforce. His name is William Arnold Pollen, MD. He was born on September 18, 1923 and was 92 in 2015. He is a retired Orthopedic Surgeon who was born and practiced in Perth Amboy, NJ. @Kenspia52: List of surviving veterans of World War II is only for people who have a Wikipedia biography and satisfy the conditions at Wikipedia:Notability (people). There may be more than 500,000 surviving US veterans of World War II. PrimeHunter (talk) 13:53, 28 December 2015 (UTC)

wiki page template

Hello,

I read the FAQs on starting a new page and I read both of the suggested links. I did not see, however, an "edit" button or anything to open up a page editor. Do I need to search online for or provide my own wiki template and then upload it to the wizard? Or is there a page on this site that I should be working within and just "save changes" to the site?

Sorry, I'm a total noob at this learning to make a page for a celebrity friend and I imagine I'll be making a few of these in the future.

Hi Yacaughtme, I second the advice about trying the article wizard. But I recommend that you first take a tour through the Wikipedia:Tutorial. It will give you a a basic foundation in general editing. Because you say is regards a celebrity friend, some other pages that might be particularly applicable are our conflict of interest guideline and a page that should help you determine whether an article is even warranted: Wikipedia:Notability (people)#Entertainers.

Please remember that the way to write here is: Gather together a collection of reliable, secondary and independent sources first, that talk about a topic in some detail. Digest what they say and then write in your own words (do not copy and paste) information that those sources verify – and nothing that can't be corroborated in them. As you do so, cite to those sources for their information. Do your best to write neutrally – just facts without any editorializing and avoid all promotional language, puffery, empty buzz language, flowery passages, etc. Remember: "show don't tell": "His books are beloved!" How to warn a non-registered editor for vandalism/unneeded removal of content?

Hi. A page I was watching was edited by an unknown user. He/she seems to be an inexperienced editor as the Infobox was heavily vandalized causing it to break into plain text. Relevant information was deleted and huge well-cited text was also removed intentionally. His/her IP address is 182.59.112.241 and has no talk page to post a warning. He/she has edited (or just deleted the content of) only two pages till date that too on the same day (28 Dec 2015). I have undone his/her edits. Is there a way to warn him/her? IP users have talk pages like everyone else. User talk:182.59.112.241 will appear as a redlink until it has been edited, but if you click that link, you can post the same warnings there as on any other user talk page.
Having checked the address it is a static IP in Mumbai, so it may be the editors home computer, but it could be in a library, school, or internet café, so the user may use a different machine next time. - Arjayay (talk) 18:52, 28 December 2015 (UTC)

Hey there! You can go to the IP address talk page and leave them a warning. The standard way of doing this would be to make a new section on the talk page and insert the following text. {{subst:uw-vandalism1}} ~~~~. This will leave a level one warning for them, as well as your signature. A level one warning is a warning that assumes good faith and remindes the editor of some relevant Wikipedia policies. If they continue to vandalize, you would give them a level 2 warning (Same as above, but with a 2), and so on. If they have recieved a level 4 warning and still vandalized, you may want to report them to the AIV noticeboard - However, users must be sufficiently warned before they can be blocked. --allthefoxes ^(Talk) 18:48, 28 December 2015 (UTC)

First, there is a misconception that it is necessary to escalate vandalism warnings from level 1 through level 2 to level 3 to level 4 before there is a block. It is really all a matter of judgment. Admins will block when they think that a block is necessary. Second, do you have Twinkle? If so, it is easy to give a vandalism warning. If not, I suggest installing it. Because, as noted, IP addresses change, it is often appropriate to semi-protect the vandalized page, and administrators usually consider semi-protecting vandalized pages one of the easier administrative functions. Robert McClenon (talk) 20:03, 30 December 2015 (UTC)

How to add own labels in the Infobox?

Hi. I wanted to know if I could add my own label/template in the infobox which isn't predefined like image, map, population, etc. In brief, I wanted to add a field named "Jurisdiction" under the "government" template. Actually, I live in a city which has a part administered by a Municipal Corporation and the other by the city's planning body. So, I wanted to add the areas/nodes of the city which are only governed by the Corporation. How can I add a new field under the predefined templates? I hope the explanation is clear. Hello, Deepak HK. You would need to edit the definition of the template - this may or may not be easy to do (some parts of templates are straightforward, others are not). DOB is policy. The deletion here was quite parallel to the Martina Filjak case which you cite, where the same information was removed for the same reason. Actually here the dob could also have been removed as unsourced, for apparently someone took Matija Prskalo's dob from IMDb. As for the Evelyn Schels case which you cite, dewiki has a different policy: there a dob is suppressed only under more restricted circumstances. —teb728 t c 12:07, 30 December 2015 (UTC)

Errors on page: Best Selling Artists of all time

Hi there, I have tried the 'talk pages' for weeks now and no one is addressing my concerns. There is wrong information presented about Barbra Streisand that needs to be corrected. The current page says that Streisand is estimated to have sold - 145 million worldwide - however the footnote for that figure doesn't substaniate that whatsoever. The correct sales worldwide is 245 Million and here are the sources for your edification. Please change this, so this page is accurate and consistent with most other resources, including the wiki barbra streisand page.

@Marco34la: This appears to be part of an existing discussion ongoing over on the talk page. I would suggest using the WP:RFC process to request to input of other editors to help assist with solving this problem. I would recommend at the moment that until there is consensus on the talk page about how to handle this number that you don't directly edit the article as it relates to this very controversial number. @tiggerjay hi there, I haven't heard back from anyone about this page. I don't understand why there's even a question about the number - or how it is controversial? wiki is supposed to be a place where people can get information that can trust, based on trusted sourced. I've provided 7 trusted sources in news/music industry. Wiki is the ONLY site that has the number 145 million instead of 245 Million for Streisand. 145 M doesn't even make sense. Streisand has sold 72.5 Million in the US alone! I don't know how to process the request differently. It appears that the editors of this page may be biased? I work for Dateline NBC - and would be glad to give you my phone number in a private conversation. There are too many websites that still report "over 145 million", so the stated policy of keeping to the lowest reported figure seems to stand. When nearly all published reports say 245 million (not just your selection), then the article can be changed. I agree that your sources are reliable, and that there is an inconsistency between the list and the article about Barbara. Can anyone else suggest a resolution? Do you have a Wikipedia:Conflict of interest here? Have you tried the the WP:RFC process suggested above? ... and there's no-one "in charge" of content in general. We rely on reliable sources and consensus between editors. Dbfirs 08:40, 29 December 2015 (UTC)
