September 4[edit]

at least one reference to a reliable source[edit]

Craig Nicholls (Footballer) (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Acidicaquas (talkcontribs) 01:50, 4 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

As the WP:BLPPROD tag says, the tag can be removed when one source has been added. You may remove the tag. However, the article may, nonetheless, be nominated for deletion if the source is not considered reliable. You may go ahead and remove the BLPPROD tag. Robert McClenon (talk) 01:56, 4 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Almost certainly will be deleted, as clearly fails to meet the notability criteria at WP:NFOOTBALL.
The North West Counties Football League Premier Division is tier 9. Footballers must have played in a top 4 tier match to be considered notable enough for an article. - Arjayay (talk) 08:53, 4 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Reference help requested.

Thanks, Starpchack (talk) 07:05, 4 September 2015 (UTC) see list of governor's of AP page there HYDstate governers not included, although HYDstate is different. only part of telangana is merged with andhra. so CM's of hyd state is common to telangana, parts of Karnataka and maharastra.[reply]

Karnataka Bengal is different from Hyderabad state. Major part of Maharastra is from Hyderabad then move this list to Maharastra CM's list. Hyderabad state is diveded into 3 parts 1. telangana merged with Andhra. 2. Parts of Aurangabad merged with Maharastra. 3.parts of Bellary merged with Karnataka.

so the list should not be included in any of the state list. there is another page Hyderabad State upto 1956. so i included this list on that page.

There are two quite separate matters here, Starpchack. For the content dispute, you need to discuss it on the article's talk page and reach consensus with other editors. The Reference error is a purely mechanical consequence of the way you made the change: among the material you removed from the page was a reference with the name 'Party'; but there is a later reference in the page, by name, to the same source; so after deletion, that reference is undefined. If the result of the discussion is that the material is removed from the page, then the definition of that particular source needs to be copied to the later use that remains on the page. --ColinFine (talk) 08:44, 4 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Send an article to main page[edit]

I have an article in my Sandbox and I want to put it on the public page. What I have to do? Sorin Ion (talk) 07:54, 4 September 2015 (UTC)Sorin Ion[reply]

Not to the main page, but to what's mysteriously called "article space".
Here's your draft. I could move it right now; but in order to raise its chance of survival, you need to do more work on it. Although it's a Romanian institute, you don't give the full Romanian name. You say that it was renamed, but you don't say when this was. You say that it has two headquarters, which is a bit surprising; but you don't start to indicate why it has two. You name its first director but you don't give a source for this. In the caption, you don't explain "Clădire". You say what the institute does, but say nothing of what it has achieved. Really, for the article's sake, do a bit more work on it. When you're sure it's ready, leave a short and simple message at User talk:Hoary, and I'll move it for you. -- Hoary (talk) 08:04, 4 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
User talk:Hoary Thanks for your feed-back. I have modified the text as you suggested and is in my Sandbox. If it has to be enhanced more, please notify me. Thank you again. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sorin Ion (talkcontribs) 09:17, 4 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Done! (It's at GeoEcoMar.) -- Hoary (talk) 13:26, 4 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Since the user mentioned the main page, I have left an invitation on their talk page to submit the article to WP:DYK. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 17:56, 4 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Custom signature issue[edit]

I want to use this signature Ayub407talk (coding in edit page) but I'm getting an error saying "invalid raw signature, check html coding". Can someone help me out. Thanks Ayub407 (talk) 08:37, 4 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Please clarify where you are seeing this error. What is an "edit page"? ―Mandruss  08:39, 4 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Mandruss: I'm getting the error message in My Preferences and I meant edit window of this article, not edit page. Ayub407 (talk) 08:42, 4 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Ayub407: <font>...</font> tags were deprecated in HTML 4.0, and their use in signatures has been discouraged for years. Since I can't see any other problems with the signature, I can only guess that Preferences no longer allows that tag. The same results can be obtained using <span>...</span> and the CSS color property, provided there is enough room for that many color changes in the signature field. See Wikipedia:Signature tutorial#Real-life examples for examples. If you use those colors, I think you will receive some negative reaction due to the low contrast of some of the characters. ―Mandruss  08:56, 4 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Mandruss: Tried <span>...</span> before and it didn't fit. I read and understood the guidelines mentioning not to use low contrast color so I decided not to use this signature. Thanks for your help. Ayub407 (talk) 09:06, 4 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I second Mandruss opinion – remember that your signature will appear on multiple pages, which may have different colors, and some character may simply disappear on colored backgrounds. --CiaPan (talk) 10:16, 4 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The font color in signatures must be in quotation marks. This would have worked: Ayub407talk. PrimeHunter (talk) 12:45, 4 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Due to the concern of the contrast color of the signature and the length of the coding, I decided to give it up. But thanks anyway @PrimeHunter:. Ayub407talk 12:53, 4 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Tobacco Dock[edit]

Hi ,

The article Tobacco Dock keeps undoing my changes because 'Please do not add promotional material to Wikipedia'.

but i dont believe i have, please check the changes i have made and confirm with me.

I work for Tobacco Dock and i should have the right to change this.

Thanks, Hassan — Preceding unsigned comment added by HassanTobaccoDock (talkcontribs) 10:38, 4 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Firstly, as you work for Tobacco Dock you have a conflict of interest, so actually have less rights than other editors to alter the article - please read and follow our guidance on conflict of interest here.
Secondly, what you are adding is completely unsourced, all information added to our articles should cite a reliable source so the information can be verified.
Thirdly your addition of material such as "a 2GB data network, customisable WiFi portals and an iBeacon network" is clearly promotional, and not of any encyclopedic interest.
Fourthly you are removing reliably sourced material, without explaining why - Please start by reading up about your conflict of interest issue - Arjayay (talk) 11:16, 4 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Hassan, if you work for Tobaco Dock, then you are strongly discouraged from ever editing the article Tobacco Dock. Please read Conflict of interest to understand how to proceed. But one way of looking at it is that Wikipedia has almost no interest in what Tobacco Dock (or any other person or organisation) says or wishes to say about themselves. It is only interested in what people unconnected with the company have said about them. If you wish changes to be made, then suggest them with citations to independent reliable published sources on the article's talk page Talk:Tobacco Dock, and an uninvolved editor will decide what changes are appropriate. --ColinFine (talk) 11:12, 4 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Colin,
If this is Wikipedia's conditions then we have to accept this, I will be making changed in the future so can you ensure i am not blocked. I will rewrite what i have written before and make sure its factual and cited.
Could i also update the images on the article as Tobacco Dock has changed?
Thanks, Hassan — Preceding unsigned comment added by HassanTobaccoDock (talkcontribs) 11:51, 4 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The only way to make sure you are not blocked is to edit within our policies and guidelines. Also, per our terms of use you are required to disclose your conflict of interest prominently, preferably on your user page - doing so on this page probably isn't enough as it is regularly archived.--ukexpat (talk) 12:21, 4 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Vietnam war photographers[edit]

1. Please could you consider creating a page with the above title. 2. Please could you make it easier to find out how to contact you appropriately. 146.200.182.176 (talk) 11:06, 4 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, IP user. It sounds as if you think there is an editorial board, or a staff: there isn't. There is only a corps of thousands of volunteers editors. So in a sense, there isn't a "you" to contact, any more appropriately than you have done here.
If you think there should be such an article, you are welcome to try writing it (see your first article); or else you can post a request at requested articles. Whether somebody will pick up the request and write it depends on whether a volunteer happens to like the idea. Note that Category:war photographers will point you at articles on individual photographers, though you'd have to look at the articles to see whether they were in Vietnam --ColinFine (talk) 11:39, 4 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Category:Photography in Vietnam (which purposely doesn't directly include Vietnamese photographers) and Category:Vietnamese photographers may be of help or interest to you. I recommend against "Vietnam war photographers" and for Photography in Vietnam. The latter article doesn't currently exist, but it could be made, and of course the war period would be a major part of it. (If it grew enormously, one part of it could later be split off as "Photography in the Vietnam war".) Perhaps surprisingly, we do already have an article on Photography in Luxembourg. -- Hoary (talk) 13:32, 4 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Reporting a user?[edit]

Hi. I was recently reading the Wikipedia article for a controversial company (it sells products and claims health benefits without any scientific evidence. The company is quite successful here in Australia). Reading the talk page, I noticed a user who had many comments trying to shape the article in a particular way. Further clicking showed that the user had persisted for a long time to have a Wikipedia article created for the founder of the controversial company that was written in a way that was positive towards the company. As a result of all of this, I think that the user is connected to the company. However I am not sure where would be the appropriate place to report this issue? PS Sorry, I forgot to title the subject/headline and this query accidently appeared underneath anotherWU00110154 (talk) 11:18, 4 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Never mind; I have found the relevant place WU00110154 (talk) 11:26, 4 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Leon Leonwood Bean site[edit]

I tried to fix a bad sentence on the Leon Leonwood Bean page, but the site doesn't accept the change. It was a simple grammatical correction. Why didn't the site make the change — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.100.40.219 (talk) 14:27, 4 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

No-one has edited Leon Leonwood Bean since June 13th. Maybe you failed to click the "Save page" button? You successfully corrected two errors at Leon Gorman 20 minutes ago. Maproom (talk) 14:44, 4 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Update Fingerhut Corporate Wikipedia Pagee[edit]

I'm looking to update my company's Wikipedia page. The current page has a couple old references and a few that have negative reviews. I would like to delete the old references and update with new ones but Wikipedia won't let me save the updates. Please let me know if there is a work-a-round.

@Ryan.donelon: Please do not edit directly content about which you have a conflict of interest. Make your suggestions on the talk page and let a third party decide whether / how to incorporate the content per our policies which include WP:V / WP:RS / WP:NPOV / WP:NOTADVERT. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 17:00, 4 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Images showing city borders[edit]

This image File:Ware County Georgia Incorporated and Unincorporated areas Waycross Highlighted.svg showing Waycross, Georgia shows a little bit of it extending into Pierce County (the main part is in Ware County). As of July 1 it no longer extends into Pierce County. How do you get the map image updated? Bubba73 You talkin' to me? 23:13, 4 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Did the city un-annex the Pierce County section (or variants thereof, e.g. the state legislature enacting a law providing that the Pierce County section be excluded from the city), or did the county boundary change? Either way, someone with proper image-editing software will need to handle it, because an SVG-editing program will be necessary. The best place to go is the Graphics Lab (or more specifically, the maps sublab) and click the "New request" link instead of your ordinary new-section tab at the top. Be sure to request that the Deenwood and Sunnyside maps also be edited, since they show Waycross in both counties. If the county boundary has changed, you'll also need to request edits to the maps for Blackshear, Offerman, and Patterson, although if the Pierce County section just got un-annexed, nothing will be needed because these maps currently don't show anything of Waycross. Nyttend (talk) 23:40, 4 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
All I know is what I read in the references. The county border didn't change but the state legislature said that the little part that was in Pierce County could no longer be a part of the city of Waycross. Bubba73 You talkin' to me? 00:37, 5 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
That will make it easier; a county boundary change would require a ton of map changes (you'd need to tweak the Pierce-Ware boundary in the statewide section of File:Union County Georgia Incorporated and Unincorporated areas Blairsville Highlighted.svg, for example), but this will affect only maps of the two counties. Now you'll only need to request changes for the few maps that specifically depict Waycross' city limits within Pierce County. Nyttend (talk) 00:57, 5 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Resolved
Thanks, I made the request (Wikipedia:Graphics_Lab/Map_workshop#Three_maps_need_to_be_changed). Bubba73 You talkin' to me? 01:11, 5 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
