New Page

[edit]

REVISED: I have made a new page or the ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA's "The BBC Sessions." (The BBC Sessions (Electric Light Orchestra album)) I feel it is referenced correctly. (ELO>Discography>Live Albums>The BBC Sessions) URL=https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_BBC_Sessions_(Electric_Light_Orchestra_album) Why doesn't it show up when searched or if the link is used? Thank you, JOHN McCARTHY "jhm795" — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jhm795 (talkcontribs) 00:24, 26 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Read: Wikipedia:Tutorial/Citing sources. Have added the ref tag for you so you can see how it works. The article now shows the ref's. Aspro (talk) 00:36, 26 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Jhm795, if your question is about why your article is not being displayed when you search for the same on internet search engines, the answer is that newly created articles take some time to get indexed via search crawlers. So perhaps wait a month or so after the creation of the article before checking again. Having said that, I feel your current article The BBC Sessions (Electric Light Orchestra album) replicates an article existing since 2008: Live at the BBC (Electric Light Orchestra album). I would suggest you include your article's contents into the older article (including the references) and redirect your article to the older article. If you have any problems doing that, write back here and we'll assist. Thanks. Lourdes 00:52, 26 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

M.C. Gainey: Filmography Addition. 2003; The Last Cowboy; with Jenny Garth, Lance Henriksen. 00:43, 26 April 2017 (UTC) Am watching it on the Hallmark channel Movies. Noticed it was not listed.

Looked him up to see if he was related to Gainey Arabian horses. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 107.77.212.154 (talk) 00:43, 26 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the input. The information has been added onto Gainey's biography. Lourdes 01:09, 26 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Username And Delete Account

[edit]

To Who It May Concern,

How do I change the username and how do I delete this account if I cannot change the username? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Anthony Stratton (talkcontribs) 05:23, 26 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

See Wikipedia:Changing username. Given that you have made no contributions, you'd probably be better off just making a new account instead. Accounts cannot be deleted. Ian.thomson (talk) 05:37, 26 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

A bot for DRN roll call

[edit]

The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

So Robert McClenon (current DRN coordinator) has suggested a roll call to call for listed volunteers to reply whether they are willing to actively assist at the DRN. One method to do so will be to use a bot to send Reminders to all listed volunteers and get them to reply if they're willing to help. The bot could then update the list and remove volunteers who do not reply in a stipulated time or state that they won't be able to actively help. We are however unsure on how to use a bot. Could anyone suggest which bot and how it could be used to take a roll call? Thanks, Yashovardhan (talk) 05:37, 26 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Can editing a wikipedia page make me friends, or just make my existence bearable? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 194.35.223.25 (talk) 11:04, 26 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia is not a therapy session, nor is it a social network. We are here to build an encyclopedia, and that is all. If you are interested in building an encylopedia you are very welcome here; if you are just looking to meet people then this is probably the wrong place for you. Script mal-functioning..

[edit]

Can any-body check whether User:Andy M. Wang/closeRM.js is functioning as desired. In my case it prompts me to enter my reason for the close, but only adds an edit summary with the entered reason rather than inserting the close templates etc. Posting it here because the script dev. is highly infrequent on en.wiki.Please ping while replying back. Thanks! @Winged Blades of Godric: Now that's strange. Its working alright for me. Lets discuss this on the RM talk page.Ping me if you start a thread there. Yashovardhan (talk) 14:47, 26 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Request An Article be written

[edit]

Hi, I'be been going in circles trying to request an article be written. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2602:306:8096:4500:1B6:D3C7:D9EF:1355 (talk) 13:58, 26 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Go to Wikipedia:Requested articles, read it carefully and thoroughly, and then follow the appropriate instructions. If you still have problems, come back here (to this section of this Help Desk) and add further queries as necessary. Please remember to sign all your posts (except on actual Article page edits) with four tildes, i.e. "~~~~". {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 90.217.249.244 (talk) 14:35, 26 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Still need help with refs

[edit]

I'm still struggling with refs in this article (many thanks for help so far received).

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_St._Quentin_Canal

I think I've now got the hang of adding a page ref, but I'd like to move Terraine's book referred to in Note 11 into the Reference section, so that I can add more page references to it. I think if someone could do this, I might be able to work out how to do it for other books myself. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Daveleicuk (talkcontribs) 15:08, 26 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Please sign talk page posts.
Last time I did it step by step so that you could see what it was that I did:
  1. rewrite citation using {{cite book}} template and rewrite short-form reference to use {{sfn}} template
  2. replace citation template with {{sfn}} template
  3. add citation template to §References
  4. added {{page needed}} template
Repeat this for Terraine and bob's yer uncle.

James Little

[edit]

James Little is a talent agent and managing director of Screen Talent Agency Limited.

His career in the entertainment industry started at the end of 1978 when he joined Birmingham punk rock band Spizz Energi with whom he played until 1982. During this time, he co-wrote the band's first hit 'Soldier Soldier' and also played on their second hit, 'Where's Captain Kirk' on the Rough Trade label.

After two albums on A&M Records and three further singles with Rough Trade, he left the band in 1982, and played with a variety of other bands, including Repetition with whom he recorded a John Peel session, before quitting being a musician to form music publishing company and record label Hobo Railways in 1986.

In 1990 he joined CBS Records as Professional Manager in their music publishing division, leaving at the end of 1992 to concentrate on building his own artist management company, where he managed Sony recording artist Davy Spillane, IRS Records' act The Surfing Brides and Welsh singer Zoe Niblett.

From there, at the end of 1995 he moved into music video production at the now-legendary Spidercom Films, home - at the time - of directors Guy Ritchie and Alex de Rakoff, and then at the music video production department of Saatchi and Saatchi in London.

By the end of the nineties though, the writing was on the wall for the music industry, and a combination of the internet and piracy saw to it that marketing budgets for records were severely curtailed. He started talent agency Dinedor Limited in 2001 and from there, in 2005, launched Screen Talent Agency in 2005, where he remains as founder and managing director. — Preceding unsigned comment added by HighPoint (talkcontribs) 16:46, 26 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

HighPoint, Just what is it you want done about this? This page is for asking for help on nhow to edit Wikipedia, and getting answers. DES (talk) 22:05, 26 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi HighPoint! As this seems to be your first contribution / edit to this site: Welcome to Wikipedia! Please disregard the unwelcoming tone by certain editors who tend to "bite" newbies rather than help. Obviously you have a subject you think would be an asset to the encyclopedia and should be added? Well, first of all: you have come to a section of Wikipedia that is reserved for asking help in editing the encyclopedia itself. There are other sections specific to your request such as: Request an Article for Creation; or even a section on Creating Your First Article (although I would suggest editing WP for quite some time before attempting this. There is also a nice area that is for asking advice and guidance called: The Teahouse. Before you do any of this however, review the requirements for "notability" of people here: Notability: music and see if your subject qualifies. I hope some of this helps in your introduction; if you have any further questions, please feel free to ask them at my Talk Page. Thanks! Maineartists (talk) 22:51, 26 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

How does Wikipedia/MOS handle consecutive abbreviated letters in a name?

[edit]

How does Wikipedia/MOS handle consecutive abbreviated letters in a name? I looked through the MOS, but I was not able to find anything. Let's say that a person's name is J. W. Ledford. What is the appropriate punctuation and spacing? Specifically, is there a space after the "J." and before the "W." (like this: J. W.)? Or not (like this: J.W.)? And what section of the MOS addresses this? Thanks. Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 23:51, 26 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

MOS:INITIALS states that names should be written with non-breaking spaces and full stops ({{nbsp}}, or J. W.). JTP (talkcontribs) 00:21, 27 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Great! Thanks! Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 00:36, 27 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Not so fast Joseph A. Spadaro and NotTheFakeJTP - that MOS rule actually violates WP:ENGVAR. British English tends to omit the full stops, e.g. the BBC website writes "George W Bush". Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 08:12, 27 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. But ... (1) If that MOS rule violates some other Wikipedia rule, I assume there is some other forum in which to make that complaint and to raise that issue. Right? (I assume so.) And, (2) The "George W Bush" example does not really address the question I had posed, about double initials. Thanks. Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 10:31, 27 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Joseph A. Spadaro and Dodger67: FWIW, here's The BBC on A. A. Milne. They omit the full stops in the title, but use them in running text. Another BBC mention wtith two full stops and a space between 71.41.210.146 (talk) 22:22, 27 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
It's not entirely clear from WP:ENGVAR that this is one of the things covered, as the spelling for color/colour is covered, since MOS:INITIALS flat-out says "An initial is followed by a full stop (period) and a space (e.g. J. R. R. Tolkien)". (I note for what it's worth that the example given is not only an English person, but possibly the most English person imaginable.) Herostratus (talk) 22:49, 27 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, all. Not for nothing ... but I am really only concerned with American style, not British. The example and article in question is a USA article. Thanks. Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 00:38, 28 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
