Is it acceptable for a user to place a talk page warning on my user page?[edit]

A user has placed a User talk namespace warning on my main user page. Is this the way these templates are intended to be used?I Use Dial (talk) 01:49, 29 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I Use Dial: without pronouncing on whether the warning is justified - these are intended for user talk pages, not user pages; you should feel free to remove it. You would also be free to remove it from your talk page, as far as that goes (this is generally interpreted as the warning having been seen and acknowledged). - It looks as if discussion is now happening on the talk page, and it would very likely be preferable to sort things out there before returning to any edit/revert cycle.--Elmidae (talk · contribs) 03:20, 29 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The discussion on the article's talk page was happening before the warning was incorrectly placed on my user page. The user that left the warning there is exhibiting very bad behavior, in general, and I find to be very disrespectful. I began using Wikipedia shortly after it first showed up in a Google search somewhere around 2003, and since then Wikipedia quickly filled up with jerks like that user and the rest of us leave because it is the only way to not deal with them, as Wikipedia policies seem to be in place to protect them. It also seems worth noting that I was not aware of the revert policy and the user not only placed the template incorrectly, but this person also jumped straight to the strongest warning, which assumes a user is already aware of the policy.
Here is a brief summary of that editor's behavior:
-Made massive change to article with zero discussion in talk page. Massive edit has many factual and NPOV errors.
-A second editor reverted the edit
-The editor reverted the reversion with a notes stating the second editor is wrong
-A third editor reverts the edit and makes a talk page entry
-The editor restores the edit and states on talk page that the third editor is wrong
-The third editor reverts the restoration and adds a talk page entry
-The editor restores the edit, adds some sources, then makes a talk page entry that does not address title of the section on the talk page or the initial criticism provided by the third editor
-The third editor unknowingly violates the reversion rule, then the editor incorrectly uses a template that was likely the wrong template to use in the first place, that also, unquestionably, is going to aggravate the person on the receiving end of this. My admittedly subjective evaluation of this is that the user is exhibiting bullying tactics.
-A fourth editor comes along and reverts the edit
-The editor makes a talk page entry informing other editors that they are all wrong and should follow the editor's instructions, while still not addressing the first concern made on the talk page by the third editor, who also placed the concern as the title for this section.
Given my previous experiences on Wikipedia, I feel there is nothing for me to do with these bullies other than just stop editing, leave the community, etc. This has bothered me for a long time, and it has been over a decade since I last provided a financial contribution to the site, and when I see this kind of behavior from a user, it just makes me go away again thinking "it's gotten yet worse".
I Use Dial (talk) 14:56, 29 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I Use Dial, the location that TheRealRocknRolla placed the warning is wrong, it should have been left on your talk page. Should they have used the milder language warning, probably. You were edit warring but so were they and both of you need to use the talk page instead of editing the article. At this point you are doing the right thing. You are discussing it and asking for help. If you need more help in trying to resolve the dispute you can look at different options available at Wikipedia:Dispute resolution. ~ GB fan 15:45, 29 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
So am I to understand the right thing for me to have done was to leave the massive edit in place and further attempted to reason with this person on the talk page? The massive edit to the article has so far one person saying it is correct while all other contributors have reverted the edit. From my perspective, the claim that I was engaged in "edit warring" is completely wrong. I was engaged in preserving the article from a massive edit made by an editor who completely ignored my criticism of the edit. This is where I find the current system here at Wikipedia absolutely horrible. Just out of curiosity, did you notice where I stated that with my very first reversion I made a talk page entry that remains unaddressed by the editor? Does not matter at all? Should editors just ignore talk page entries and operate in a comfortable little loophole where anyone trying to address concerns are silenced with this "edit warring" claim? Captcha[edit]

Why did I have to do a captcha for https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Metabolic_syndrome&type=revision&diff=797832293&oldid=795963670? I didn't do anything except add the word "and" in the middle of a sentence. 208.95.51.38 (talk) 12:31, 29 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

A template edit [1] meant an external link had changed since the previous article edit. PrimeHunter (talk) 13:14, 29 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Reverting[edit]

Hi, it seems i've lost the function of reverting edits to previous article versions, please advise. Also the preferences links such as appearance, editing, beta features etc are frozen and not working so I pressed rest button but they still don't work and now the twinkle has dissapeared. I wonder if my account has been hacked

Have got twinkle back but user preferences is still not working, the new page feed wont load and page curation toolbar has dissappeared, seems to be a problem involving javascript Atlantic306 (talk) 13:43, 29 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The revert function has reappeared but user preferences still not working, new pages feed and curation toolbar not loading, please advise Atlantic306 (talk) 19:35, 29 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

mobile view lacks language selection[edit]

I frequently read articles in different languages, but when I am on my tablet I am always stuck with default English. Why isn't there a language selector on the mobile view? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.247.108.66 (talk) 14:17, 29 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, the language selector on the mobile view is located under the article title, to the left of the page – it is a Chinese character and a capital A. You can select it to view the article in different languages. Hope this helps! –FlyingAce✈hello 15:22, 29 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Persistent "editor"[edit]

A user has repeatedly edited the page Qi Xin, removing referenced information about her husband having another wife, and replacing it with information about her family not being able to afford shoes. Although these edits have now been reverted twice (they, at least, added a reference for the shoe statement), they seem quite persistent that the mention of a previous wife should be removed. This is likely closely related to the political position of the article's subject (mother of China's current leader), but does anyone have advice for dealing with this situation? Amys eye (talk) 15:25, 29 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Repeatedly? I see only one such edit. Ruslik_Zero 19:05, 29 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Turning off Redirects?[edit]

Is there any way to turn off Redirection? (a setting in preferences, a tool, something else?) I've created a lot of Wikipedia redirects and would like to be able to set things on and off as to whether redirections are followed.Naraht (talk) 17:17, 29 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know a method. It would probably have to be a user script. Wikipedia:User scripts/List doesn't show any. PrimeHunter (talk) 11:18, 30 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The place to discuss improvements to the article is its talk page, in this case Talk:Jason Innocent. Remember that in looking for reliable sources we are not interested in what the subject says about himself; what we need is material written about the subject in published reliable sources independent of the subject. --David Biddulph (talk) 18:58, 29 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
