Permanent Deletion?[edit]

Someone wrote an article about my friend and it was marked for deletion. It keeps showing up in Google though, and is embarrassing. Is there a way to permanently delete the page?Joyce Rowland (talk) 01:08, 25 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Joyce Rowland has the article about your friend been deleted yet? Do not tell us what the page is, because that will make the page more visible!!! Please just go to the page and then return here to tell us whether it's still in existence. Nyttend (talk) 01:53, 25 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, the page is still in existence. Joyce Rowland (talk) 01:56, 25 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I've gone through CAT:CSD and deleted all the deletion-worthy biographies that I noticed, and I didn't notice anything that would likely be seen as embarrassing, but it's possible that I missed something. Basic principles — (1) Marked for deletion means that it will be deleted (if it really does qualify) as soon as an administrator notices it, but everything gets deleted by human volunteers, so it's not as if such items are guaranteed to be deleted immediately. (2) When Google picks up a page that then gets deleted, it can take several days for Google to notice that it's gone, and until that happens, it doesn't get removed from Google. This is the best I can tell you, but please check back here periodically, since others might have better answers. Nyttend (talk) 02:15, 25 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Joyce Rowland: "marked for deletion" indicates a suggestion to delete which may or may not be followed. If the page is actually deleted then Google will stop indexing the page after a while. We don't control when but I think it's usually within days. Mentions of the name on other pages may continue to be indexed. It's also possible that other websites outside our control have copied a page before it's deleted here. If their copies are not deleted then Google may index them. We may be able to say more if we know the page. You could write it inside comment markers <!-- ... --> so it's only visible when editing. Edit pages are not indexed by search engines. Content translation tool affecting Special:Contributions[edit]

de:Stoppelfeld has no English babel link, so I was surprised to see one when I viewed the French equivalent, fr:Chaume (agriculture), and thus I clicked it. Turns out that the link activates the content translation tool, so I was careful not to save anything. Unfortunately, this has somehow affected things here at en:wp. Special:Contributions/Nyttend now has three boxes: New page, Upload media, and Translation, and I can't see how to get rid of them. Any suggestions? Nyttend (talk) 01:52, 25 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Disable "Content Translation" at Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-betafeatures. PrimeHunter (talk) 02:08, 25 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Much better. Thanks! Nyttend (talk) 02:13, 25 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

wikishovel undid all what I did in 2016 about [Jason Zhang][edit]

hey i am very sad that my work about [Jason Zhang] in the past year was deleted by wikishovel i need an explanation about it because it is my effort and i did it carefully. if you have some questions about this article, you can communicate with me,not delete it directly! the previous article has much information outdated.

https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Jason_Zhang&diff=754896139&oldid=754715267

BTW,do you have some groups that volunteers can talk and learn to edit? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Twinklestellar (talkcontribs) 12:46, 25 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Twinklestellar:
Ian.thomson (talk) 12:52, 25 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
A couple more points, Twinklestellar, beyond Ian.thomson's good ones:
  • Your work is not lost. It is still there in the history of the article, and any of it can be retrieved.
  • You don't own the article; but neither does Wikishovel. If you think that some of the edits that Wikishovel removed were good (according to the policies Ian thomson mentioned above), then you can start a discussion on the talk page Talk:Jason Zhang and see if you can get consensus to add them again.
This is how Wikipedia often works: somebody makes some edits, somebody else disagrees and reverts them, and then they discuss it and reach an agreement. See WP:BRD. --ColinFine (talk) 16:27, 25 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Change article name Coworth Park Hotel[edit]

Hi,

This article has the wrong title https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coworth_House I was looking for 'Coworth Park Hotel' and while the answer was always in front of me I didn't understand it because it said 'Coworth House'. The first line of the article says "Coworth House, currently known as Coworth Park Hotel, " - so we acknowledge it's called Coworth Park Hotel, why not have the right name? It is so confusing, especially considering Coworth Park hotel is shown in the info box on the right hand side and pretty much everywhere else on the page. The official page is http://www.dorchestercollection.com/en/ascot/coworth-park where again it is listed as Coworth Park Hotel. Can we do something about this? Thanks, — Preceding unsigned comment added by 109.111.204.242 (talkcontribs)

The edit that started off the change was done by a fairly inexperienced editor back in 2011. They probably didn't know that the page needed to be moved to the new name as well. I've now performed that move. If you find anything else that needs to be fixed like this, you can leave a note on the talk page of the article with the template {{edit request}} which will notify people that something needs doing. It helps if you add references like you did in this case to something that backs up your changes. Thanks, †dismas†|(talk) 14:19, 25 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Eileen_Olszewski[edit]

Please delete the page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eileen_Olszewski. Mrs. Olszewski herself requested the page be removed due to inaccurate edits. Now some guy with the username "RickinBaltimore" keeps putting the libelous material back and accusing me of "vandalism". We will refer this matter to law enforcement if the page is not removed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Chris.Wolf (talkcontribs) 14:22, 25 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I was going to warn about no legal threats, but seems they've already been blocked. Joseph2302 (talk) 15:00, 25 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
In addition to the blocked account, there was in the recent editing of the page an edit by User:Chriswolf478, I'd be surprised if that was not a duplicate account.Naraht (talk) 15:09, 25 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

problem posting article[edit]

On January 24 I posted a new article about Africa50 using the article wizard. I thought I had saved it correctly but now can find no trace of it. I wonder whether more experienced wiki colleagues can find it or tell me what I might have done wrong. I tought it would go into some kind of editing phase. thanksAfrica50 (talk) 18:00, 25 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Africa50. It looks like no article by that name has ever been either created or deleted.
Incidentally, since I assume you are talking about the Africa50 Infrastructure Fund, you probably want to:
  1. Register a different account, since Wikipedia's username policy prohibits names that represent a business or organization.
  2. Review Wikipedia's policy on conflicts of interest carefully
Failure to abide by these policies may result in sanctions including loss of editing privileges. TimothyJosephWood 18:05, 25 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
