T!m Ned Wiki[edit]

Hello,

I am new to Wiki editing. I am just trying to validate that the current references/citations on this page I created will be considered creditable. I continue to get the warning that I need to had more cites (which i can continue to add) but wondering how many will be needed to be considered. Thus far, 2 independent blog sites, Apples iTunes, SoundCloud and a record labels web site have been referenced.

VergeCity, sorry you're having the problems, but to be honest, this article will probably have trouble remaining on the site. Look closely at the Wikipedia "notability" guidance and also the specific guidance on musicians, which says the type of person you're writing about should be: "the subject of multiple, non-trivial, published works appearing in sources that are reliable, not self-published, and are independent of the musician or ensemble itself." Unfortunately, the sources you've given do not meet Wikipedia's requirements to establish a person's notability. Articles and reviews in authoritative magazines and newspapers, on or offline, are the type of sources needed. Also, if by any chance you know him, or work for him, or are his relative, that would be a problem called conflict of interest. But even if that's not the case, Mr. Ned needs more coverage by independent reliable sources to be more seriously considered for an article. DonFB (talk) 01:22, 16 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Confirmation email not being received[edit]

I've tried multiple times over the past two days to confirm an email address for my account. I need this done so I can apply for JSTOR privileges. Unfortunately, no confirmation email seems to have made it into my inbox. The email address (a Gmail) is correct, and there's nothing in my spam folder. My account has existed for over a year. What could be the problem? Is there some way to circumnavigate this process and "manually" confirm my email? -Indy beetle (talk) 00:45, 16 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Indy beetle: The issue at phab:T66795 has caused Yahoo and sometimes other mail services like Gmail to block mail from Wikipedia. Can you try another mail provider? Comparison of webmail providers lists some examples. PrimeHunter (talk) 01:04, 16 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Reliable source[edit]

I need a second opinion if this^[1] website is considered a reliable source. It is the only link that supports the Clinton health care plan of 1993 being dubbed as "Hillarycare". Apologies about the citation, I couldn't figure out the code for external links.

You might be better off posting something at WP:RSN about reliability of The American Prospect. I would accept it as a reliable source. Take note that by their own statement, "We aim to advance liberal and progressive goals." So, they're not a neutral source, but that's ok. Wikipedia rules say sources don't have to be neutral, and a biased source can even be quite useful in providing a sourced point of view on a controversy. Just be aware that all their articles will probably espouse a lib point of view about something, so you might need to look for sourced balance in whatever WP article you use Prospect for. Links to articles in a language other than English[edit]

I was editing an article on Yvonne Rudellat which includes a mention of Raymond Flower. I wanted to insert a link to an already-existing WP article on Flower but when I did so using "[[ ]]" the link was not recognised by the system, perhaps because the Flower article is in French (https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raymond_Flower). @Exbrum and DonFB: I believe the most common way for this is interlanguage link Template. In your example it would be {{ill|Raymond Flower|fr}}, which displays as Raymond Flower [fr]

Pupils of Nadia Boulanger[edit]

Hello - this is my first time adding a link to a Wikipedia site. I added a link to the Pupils of Nadia Boulanger site but I can't figure out how to get it to appear under the right alphabetical category. My link is to student Harold Evans - and it was placed at the top of the page when I wanted it under "E". A new member gets added to the category not by editing the category page, but by editing the article about the new member, adding [[Category:Pupils of Nadia Boulanger]] to the foot of the member's article. It appears, however, that there isn't (yet) an article on your Harold Evans, so if there isn't an article his article can't be included in the category. --David Biddulph (talk) 17:16, 16 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

(edit conflict) @Harveykay: Hello, does the Harold Evans you refer to have a Wikipedia article? If he does and is a pupil of Boulanger, then the code [[Category: Pupils of Nadia Boulanger]] would be added to his page in a section accessed at the end of the page where other categories will appear. We don't seem to have an article about a musician called Harold Evans. I've removed the executive names, as they were incorrect, not referenced, and not the names shown on their website here.

We currently do not have an article about Claire Bassett, so I don't think it is appropriate to add her name there - also basing this on Google searches of news, she does not seem a particularly notable public figure.86.20.193.222 (talk) 18:33, 16 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

How to flag that a useful article has many factual errors[edit]

Thanks, Nihonjoe, but the article has some points that I know are wrong and others that I suspect may be wrong, and I feel that the article as a whole is correct in outline but erroneous in detail. I would like to flag the article as a whole accordingly. To focus on a few specifics would by implication exonerate the remainder, which may or may not be justified. Some specifics are discussed on the talk page. I've asked for input from the MilHist folks (WikiProject Military history, which is a very active project). I'm also trying to order one of the books. 86.20.193.222 -- yes, it is about the things I wrote on the talk page. In a nutshell, it is a very interesting and (I believe) well written article, but it appears to have some, perhaps many, errors of fact. I do not have the knowledge to correct it, so I wrote up what I had found on the talk page in the hope that an expert in the subject would review and revise it. Many thanks for your help in this.

This probably wouldn't be too difficult for someone who knew what they were doing. If you look at the tempalte, each entry is formatted liked {CFL player|31|N|Calvin McCarty}. All you have to do is extract the number and name from each entry, and then sort the entries by number like at Template:Edmonton Eskimos roster navbox. This would save a lot of time in updating these templates. I think you might be able to have a lua module do this. WikiOriginal-9 (talk) 17:13, 17 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
