November 27[edit]

I would like to request a page to be deleted[edit]

As a member of the staff at Caroline Charles, I request for this page to be deleted.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caroline_Charles — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A00:23C4:5003:B00:C451:F145:C54F:A819 (talk) 00:01, 27 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello IP, The person who the page is about or yourself can't request a page be deleted just because they don't want it. Wikipedia articles are based upon what has been written about the subject in independent reliable sources (any unsourced material is likely to be deleted). An article would only be deleted if certain criteria are fulfilled. I see a request was made for deletion but was reverted as reason given was same as you have requested here. However, any unsourced or poorly sourced information in an article on a living person can be removed by anyone, including you, immediately. NZFC(talk) 01:38, 27 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
... but if you are a member of staff you need to make a paid-contribution disclosure before you make any further edits. --David Biddulph (talk) 02:39, 27 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
2A00, "we" sometimes agree to delete a biography on request per something called WP:BIODEL, but that applies to "relatively unknown, non-public figures", and per my reading of the article, that is not the case here. She released a memoir, and The Guardian wrote about it. That´s "public". The article seems ok to me, perhaps a little WP:PROMOTIONAL but not glaringly so, and at a glance the sourcing is decent. I have a question about getting permission from someone to add a BioPic to an article.[edit]

I started the article on Maryn McKenna. When I first started the article I was very new to wikipedia guidelines. So I naively posted a biopic to the article without knowing I had to get permission. However, I am DMing Maryn McKenna personally for permission to add a biopic. How do I prove this so I can add a biopic to the article? Book Portal & Talk 16:52, 17 March 2016 (UTC) 05:12, 27 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

BookPortal, basically, the person who owns the copyright (usually the photographer) has to "give" it to us themselves, which means they´re also giving it to almost everybody else. This is why so many of our articles on actors have fan-pics from Comicon etc. Hopefully Wikipedia:Donating_copyrighted_materials#Donating_your_photographs can get you started. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 08:18, 27 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

She's going to give me a picture to use this afternoon. So after she gives me the picture she wants to use, do I upload the picture and then a screenshot of her permission? Book Portal & Talk 16:52, 17 March 2016 (UTC) 14:37, 27 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The way to do this, is get the photographer to email in a OTRS to us. It is simple. A template is here: E-mail template for release of rights to a file. Get the photographer to send this off and then upload the image stating that an OTRS has been submitted. Just submitting and image supplied by Maryn McKenna will most likely get deleted very quickly. You also need to declare on your talk page, your connections with Maryn McKenna. After all, you could be anyone and spouting nonsense and end up getting a ban unless we know your credentials. Hope this helps to clarify the right way to go about this. Aspro (talk) 17:46, 27 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion about deleting Reference desk[edit]

Where's the recent large discussion where some people proposed to delete the whole Wikipedia:Reference desk? Thanks. --Daniel Carrero (talk) 10:54, 27 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello I have been away for some time and now I'm back with more recent information about the artist could you please help guide me through the process of editing the draft? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hardsylelovers (talkcontribs) 11:11, 27 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Hardsylelovers: Hello, I have left a welcome message which includes some useful links at your talk page. Please study all those links carefully and also WP:REFB, WP:YFA, WP:MOS and WP:GNG. You should also find articles about similar subjects and see how they are laid out etc. Please return here if you have any specific problems which you need help with. Thank you. Eagleash (talk) 13:54, 27 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Hardsylelovers: Also, see WP:IB for a list of infoboxes. Eagleash (talk) 14:32, 27 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

My page has vanished from Google Search[edit]

Dear friends, I'm Essa Zahir (actor, artist, author) I created my own page from 2009, re-editing it when needed since. My page always appeared on google Search right at the top. But about two years ago, it just vanished overnight not even appearing on further pages on google (2,3,4 etc).

Please can you tell me how this has happened?

And, how can I get it to re-appear on google?

Many thanks- ESSA ZAHIR. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Essa Zahir (talkcontribs) 15:39, 27 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Essa Zahir: Hello, all of your edits seem to be to User:Essa Zahir. This is not a Wikipedia article and has far as I can see has not been one. It is a page in your userspace and as such will not be indexed by Google. It could be a basis for a Wikipedia draft, but would need a considerable amount of work before it could be accepted into the encyclopedia. You should also read WP:COI and WP:AUTOBIOGRAPHY if you wish to continue the page as a draft as well as WP:YFA, WP:GNG and WP:REFB together with WP:UP in respect of what you can have on your userpage. On another note it would not be 'your' page, but Wikipedia's page about you which is constructed around what has been written about you in independent reliable sources. Wikipedia has little if any, interest in what a subject has to say about itself and you would be required to suggest edits to the page rather than editing it yourself. Sorry, not to be more encouraging. Please sign your posts on talk pages by typing four tildes (~~~~). Thank you. Eagleash (talk) 16:46, 27 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Userspace pages got the noindex tag by default in 2015 after discussion at Wikipedia:Village pump (proposals)/Archive 126#Userpage drafts shown in search engines. That's why it vanished from Google and we don't want to change that. PrimeHunter (talk) 17:30, 27 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, Essa Zahir. I think you are making the (unfortunately very common) mistake of thinking that Wikipedia is in any way connected with your online presence or promoting yourself. It is not, and may not be. If we ever have an article about you, it will not be your article, it will preferably not be written by you, and it will be based almost entirely on what people who are unconnected with you have chosen to publish about you. Please read the links Eagleash has provided to understand better what Wikipedia is and how it works. --ColinFine (talk) 17:38, 27 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
You should also note that a user page should not pretend to be an article. The page can tell other editors something about yourself (in the first person), and about how you intend to improve the encyclopaedia. Google should never have indexed your user page. You can't get it to appear on Google. Dbfirs 18:39, 27 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Note The userpage has been deleted as speedy U5 not webhost. Eagleash (talk) 02:58, 28 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Questions[edit]

Good Evening, I have got a few questions:

  • Can a biographical article with sources can be nominated for deletion for a lack of sources(WP:BLPPROD?)?
  • What can I do if an article is nominated for deletion in an unwarranted manner?
  • How to remedy to this problem?
  • Can it be considered as Vandalism?

Thank You for you answers,

--Les Yeux Noirs (talk) 16:55, 27 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

This seems to relate to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Marina Osman where the only rationale for deletion is given as "BLP/PROD" which does not apply if an article has just one ref. in support of one statement. @Les Yeux Noirs: At this point you should just make your point (as you have done) at the deletion discussion. The disc. will be reviewed by an Admin. before closure. Eagleash (talk) 17:07, 27 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thank You very much --Les Yeux Noirs (talk) 17:14, 27 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Marina Osman is a WP:AFD nomination and not a WP:BLPPROD nomination. The nominator mentioned WP:BLPPROD and probably shouldn't have but WP:AFD is a different process where any article can be nominated. A WP:BLPPROD nomination doesn't have a page to discuss the nomination but just places a tag on the article. The common standard an article should satisfy at AFD is Wikipedia:Notability or a subject-specific guideline like Wikipedia:Notability (people) or Wikipedia:Notability (music). Do not strike the comments of others like you did in [1]. People can strike their own comments if they retract them but there is no sign of that here. Need help about citation[edit]

Hi, can you help me please. How do i create a citation-note, based on a online-available official pdf-document (wich is in german-language)? --Tonialsa (talk) 17:32, 27 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Tonialsa, Help:Referencing for beginners has some quick tips that you can use. Thanks, Lourdes 17:36, 27 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, I will read there. Best Regards, --Tonialsa (talk) 17:39, 27 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Tonialsa! I think your question is a bit more specific, in that it might need a follow-up question rather than a simple link to Help:Referencing for beginners; which unfortunately provides no assistance with your particular situation (unless I'm missing something - and I read it all, too). Did you find what you were looking for? What WP article are you trying to create your citation-note; and what link references your online PDF document?Maineartists (talk) 17:56, 27 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately i didn´t find there, what i´m looking for. I seek a template, wich allow me to use the URL, the Page-format (PDF), the Date, the Page where the information is to find, and the autor, the date. In deWP look this like that: <ref>{{Internetquelle|url=http://www.statistik.rlp.de/fileadmin/dokumente/berichte/A/1033/A1033_201522_hj_G.pdf|titel=Bevölkerung der Gemeinden am 31.Dezember 2015 - A1033_201522_hj_G.pdf|werk=statistik.rlp.de|seiten=15|datum=2015-12-31|zugriff=2017-11-27|sprache=de|format=pdf}}</ref>. Because I rarely write anything here, its important for me, to use the right remplate, i didnt want to make mistakes here, in enWP. --Tonialsa (talk) 18:06, 27 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
If you look at the interlanguage links from de:Vorlage:Internetquelle you'll see that it links to Template:Internetquelle, which has parameter names in German, whereas the equivalent with parameter names in English is Template:Cite web. --David Biddulph (talk) 18:13, 27 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
WOW! So easy?! I think that is, what i was looking for! I didnt know that, many thanks to all of you! --Tonialsa (talk) 18:21, 27 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Should I use terms like crore and lakh?[edit]

I understand that country-specific articles should use the currency of that country, but in an article about India should I use 'Rs 15 crore', like the newspaper articles use? Or should I translate it to Rs 150,000,000? Leschnei (talk) 18:46, 27 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Relevant MOS is Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/Dates_and_numbers#Numbers_as_figures_or_words. You can use the words lakh and crore, but in the first instance of use link the term and provide a conversion. It is suggested to provide a conversion for all uses if it is not overwhelming. If you do not use the words, you should always write "150,000,000" instead of "15,00,00,000". Xenon54 (talk) 18:54, 27 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Great, thanks User:Xenon54

Hello, i want you to look at the source-code of Worms, Germany. Can anyone here explain me, why the old citation:

"Gemeinden in Deutschland mit Bevölkerung am 31. Dezember 2015" (PDF). Statistisches Bundesamt (in German). 2016."

is still in the article? I didnt find it in the source-code.

Regards, --Tonialsa (talk) 19:00, 27 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

It's coming from the template {{Metadata Population DE-RP}}, which is included by {{Population Germany}}, which is included by {{Infobox German location}}. Bruto (talk) 19:53, 27 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, ok, seems pretty difficult to me. --Tonialsa (talk) 20:01, 27 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

membership[edit]

how do i sighn up — Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.218.149.225 (talk) 21:08, 27 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, there is no 'membership' as such, anyone can edit Wikipedia within it's conventions etc. If you are asking how to become a registered editor, then you should see a link at the top of any page you view as an anonymous editor "create account", click that and sign up. It's very easy and makes your editing easier and communication with others easier too. Eagleash (talk) 21:13, 27 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I have tried to add a file in the Ancestry section of Lord Hussey - it has not worked. please fix if you can. Thanks Srbernadette (talk) 22:06, 27 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Srbernadette: I have added the file. You may wish to alter the layout (don't 'squeeze' the text between images). For future reference if you go to the file at Commons (where you uploaded it) you will find a ready made correctly formatted link to use to add the file to a Wiki. page. Eagleash (talk) 22:35, 27 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Other editors have already altered your really good presentation. I preferred yours! Please check ref 1 which I have not done. It looks to be in "red:. Thanks 203.132.68.1 (talk) 22:51, 27 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Yes I have been in discussion with another editor. The images are now in a gallery which is a bit neater and does not stack the images. The first ref has just not been defined...someone has just added it as a ref name. I will remove it and add a citation needed tag for now...it refers to her period of activity as an actress, which I believe she announced recently was to end...specifically in her role in Suits Eagleash (talk) 23:06, 27 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
It's been fixed in the meantime. Eagleash (talk) 23:08, 27 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
