November 7[edit]

Infobox issues[edit]

I am asking here as Template talk:Infobox chess biography has very little activity.

Can anyone tell me why the "FideID" parameter does not work for certain articles (see Laura Unuk, Stavroula Tsolakidou) as it does for others (see Magnus Carlsen and most other articles which include the chess biography/player infobox)? Hrodvarsson (talk) 04:56, 7 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Hrodvarsson: According to Template:Elo rating, the automatic import only works for players rated 2400 and over. -- John of Reading (talk) 07:17, 7 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@John of Reading: I did not know that, it explains the infobox's inconsistency. Thanks for your help! Hrodvarsson (talk) 03:09, 8 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello!

Can you please tell me how can I create a box on the right side of the page (for a bibliography page) to include a photo and a general description (nationality, profession, etc)?

Thank you — Preceding unsigned comment added by Raboj Anca (talkcontribs) 10:44, 7 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

As the heading of this section implies, those boxes are called infoboxes. You'll find information at WP:Infoboxes, Help:Infobox, and Template:Infobox. --David Biddulph (talk) 10:52, 7 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Encyclopedic text versus discussion text[edit]

Has anyone calculated the amount of encyclopedic text we have versus the amount of discussion text? I want to calculate the ratio of discussion that goes into making the article text for the English Wikipedia as a whole. This would include all archived discussions. This is for a planned Wikimania presentation. --RAN (talk) 15:50, 7 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Richard, I've searched and have not been able to find the exact statistics you're looking for. You can post a request for this at Wikipedia:Request a query. Thanks. Lourdes 02:22, 8 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! --RAN (talk) 02:24, 8 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Change Loro on Pernigotti Page[edit]

Hi, the Logo inside the page https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pernigotti

it's not correct. The right logo is https://www.dropbox.com/s/7qwe7t5rum2b2il/logo-2-pernigotti.png?dl=0

How can i change it?

Thanks for support — Preceding unsigned comment added by Fabzero2017 (talkcontribs) 16:23, 7 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Fabzero2017, this is the English Wikipedia while your query refers to the Italian Wikipedia. Without commenting on the appropriateness of your image, I would suggest you take this issue up at the article's talk page on the Italian Wikipedia. Thanks, Lourdes 06:02, 9 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Confused[edit]

This may be a simple stroll in the park for the European way of thinking but for we indigenous people, it is really complicated. I want to post some facts on wikipedia but do not grasp the process.. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 172.97.216.152 (talk) 16:38, 7 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

You can look at Wikipedia:Tutorial. Ruslik_Zero 20:55, 7 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I have left welcome message at the IP talk page. Eagleash (talk) 21:24, 7 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
You say you want to "post some facts"; are you planning to create a new article, or to add these facts to an existing article? Creating a new article is difficult, and not recommended for new users; I doubt that any new user finds it "a stroll in the park". Maproom (talk) 22:58, 7 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright tag for Open Parliament Licence[edit]

Hi, Does anybody happen to known the copyright tag for an upload images, which has copyright on this: [[1]]. Its specifically for this: [[File:Edward_FitzRoy,_Commons_Speaker.png]]. I have put in an OGL licence but don't know if it is right Thanks. scope_creep (talk) 21:49, 7 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Scope creep, in my opinion, the best person to speak to on this issue would be Nikkimaria. Thanks. Lourdes 05:56, 9 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Cool. Thanks. scope_creep (talk) 13:36, 9 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
OGL and OPL are similar but not identical - see commons:Commons:Village_pump/Archive/2012/07#Open_Parliament_Licence for some previous discussion. Nikkimaria (talk) 15:58, 9 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Please remove the black and white portrait drawing - it is NOT of Christopher Hussey, it is of John Greenleaf Whitter. Our mistake. Sorry 203.132.68.1 (talk) 22:38, 7 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed with {{stack}}.[2] PrimeHunter (talk) 22:40, 7 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
{{stack}} doesn't solve the problem. It is not a portrait of Hussey. Someone else has now removed it.--David Biddulph (talk) 22:52, 7 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I was replying to another request: Please remove the "void" (extra space) in the history section.[3] I didn't notice the IP had changed the request by the time I saved. PrimeHunter (talk) 23:38, 7 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The IP (and its alter egos) has many irritating habits, one of which is to use numerous sections with the same title on this page. Been told about it on numerous occasions, but ignores all advice. --David Biddulph (talk) 23:53, 7 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
