A question about the editing layout and html tool ASAP

Hello IP user. I understand your frustration, but you're talking to the wrong people! In posting here, you are addressing the thousands of volunteer editors who watch this help desk. Not more than a handful of us have anything to do with the Wikimedia Foundation, which solicits and receives donations, and we have no control over the messages the WMF posts. If you want to take this further, you need to contact the Foundation directly.

If you create an account on Wikipedia, and log in, you will then be able to check a box that says "Don't show me the fundraising banners"; but if you don't then it has no way of knowing who you are, and knowing that you want the banners suppressed.

Finally (speaking entirely personally here) I have some idea what it costs to maintain a system with hundreds of millions of users, and I am happy to make a small donation to hel keep it going and keep it free of commercial interests, beside my (much larger) donation of my time. Find anon-edit history for a range of IPs

Now that WikiScanner and WikiWatcher no longer exist, what's the best way to look up the anonymous edits for all IPs in a range? (This is especially important because of IPv6, where a single household can have a /64 at one time, but it also matters in IPv4 because cable Internet providers, at least in the US and Canada, tend to periodically shuffle customers within a neighborhood/building /26 or /27.) @NeonMerlin: I think this ability has been moved to the core software: example. The documentation at Help:User contributions#Parts of the page and their purposes mentions an optional gadget, but the "/N" format works for me even though I haven't ticked that preference. -- John of Reading (talk) 08:03, 2 December 2018 (UTC)

CBBSTARS, I see that may not be what you meant. You can link to Wikipedia articles from your own site with no restriction You can even copy articles and images from here if you wish, but if you do so you must attribute them to Wikipedia and make it clear that they can be used by anyone else under the same free licence. Hello, Drpdsharma. You haven't explained why you have posted this information here (which is a help desk for issues in editing Wikipedia). I'm guessing that you think we should have an article about Yoga Psychotherapy. Wikipedia does not accept articles about everything that exists (and especially not about everything that is in the commercial world): we require that topics be notable in a special sense: roughly, that several people who have no connection to the topic have chosen to publish material about it in reliable places. If you can find such sources (remember that nothing said or published by the topic or by people associated with it counts for this purpose) then it is possible to have an article about it. You could request an article at requested articles, but there is no guarantee that a volunteer will pick up the request. You could try creating an article about it yourself, but be aware that creating a new article is a difficult process: see your first article. If you yourself are in any way connected with the topic, you are regarded as having a conflict of interest, and you must declare this. In any case, if an article is created, the article will belong to Wikipedia, and not to the proprietors of the topic, who will have no involvement or control over it, beyond making suggestions. --ColinFine (talk) 11:26, 2 December 2018 (UTC)

How to view Special:RecentChanges for recent 2,000 changes? (again)

I asked this question when Special:RecentChanges just revamped in Dec 2017 (previous discussion ), and the answer was just keeping "limit=2000&days=30" and removing all other parameters in the URL. It worked for nearly a year, until today I discovered that it no longer works. As long as the parameter "limit" is larger than 1000, it just only shows 1000. Is it a bug or intend to limit the limit in 1000 now? --Kowlooner (talk) 13:20, 2 December 2018 (UTC)

Editing Wikipedia via TOR from under a registred account?

Hello, fellow editors. I've been recently trying to force myself to migrate most of my internet browsing to TOR, however I noticed that I can't edit Wikipedia on TOR. I understand why it could have been forbidden to IP-edit Wikipedia from TOR, but why can't I use TOR with a registred account? Seems kinda strange, doesn't it? Anyway, I tried searching about using TOR together with Wikipedia, but I couldn't figure out on my own how to. Is it even technically possible, and if it is, how do I do that? Here is why we don't let all registered users edit through Tor:

Current situation:

User registers, plays nice when logged in, starts vandalizing while logged out. Checkuser (See Wikipedia:CheckUser) shows that the two are the same person.

With TOR editing enabled:

User registers always edits through TOR, plays nice when logged in, starts vandalizing while logged out. Checkuser cannot identify the two as the same person.

Current situation:

One of our long term abusers (See Wikipedia:Long-term abuse) registers multiple accounts edits enough to get them autoconfirmed. He starts his usual disruption (some of them are really easy to ID, like the one who keeps adding "on wheels" to places where it makes no sense). Checkuser identifies all of the accounts he created from that IP, and we block them all.

With TOR editing enabled:

Same as above, but all the edits are through TOR. Checkuser can no longer identify all of the accounts he created.

The answer is to have an administrator make a judgement call based upon how long you have been editing, whether your edits help build the encyclopedia, your block log, and the reason you give for wanting to use Tor. --Guy Macon (talk) 19:52, 2 December 2018 (UTC)

Can Signbot be invoked manually

@Dodger67: Not that I know of, but especially on more recent edits it's usually not hard to find who did the edit and add {{unsigned|username}}. LittlePuppers (talk) 19:09, 2 December 2018 (UTC)

Thanks LittlePuppers, but it's unsigned stuff from months or even years ago that really clogs up various pages. Why is Sinebot able to sign stupid IP vandalism within 0.000043 milliseconds thus complicating simple rollback, but it ignores other stuff for years? The inconsistency is frustrating! Yeah, that's the really annoying stuff, Dodger67. I'm afraid I don't know of any better ways than looking through context for a rough date or just searching the revision history (although that can be slow with large histories) - are there any specific pages you want help with? @Dodger67: There are many reasons that informs SineBot to sign a post and even more reasons to not sign. You should've give the page which can help to give you more informed answer. But from your post I can deduct two things. 1. Pages where you observe it signs immediately; these are specifically coded into the bot as high priority because of the volume of edits they receive, example WP:ANI and WP:TEAHOUSE. So there's a delay timeframe on pages not on the list. 2. "ignores other stuff for years": SineBot doesn't sign retroactively. So it cannot go back and sign all unsigned stuff from years back. If it skips signing (for all the reasons it does so), then it will never come back and sign that particular post. As I said, these are not the only reasons, but at least answers part of your question. –Ammarpad (talk) 07:42, 3 December 2018 (UTC)

Standards for restored content

An edit summary here says not to "restore uncited or poorly-cited content. . . this is against Wikipedia policy". Is this correct? What policy is this; where can I find it spelled out? Clearly, one can add content that some may regard as poorly cited – it's all over the place. It attracts {{cn}} and {{refimprove}} challenges, and eventually, if there is no response, there is sufficient justification for deleting it. Nothing, however, seems to prohibit poorly-cited content being added in the first place. Is restoring content that has been deleted without warning held to a higher standard? The burden to demonstrate verifiability lies with the editor who adds or restores material, and is satisfied by providing an inline citation to a reliable source that directly supports the contribution. (bold text per the original). So, yes - if someone removes something as unsourced, except in very limited circumstances, if you're restoring it you need to be sourcing it - or the likelihood is that it's just going to be removed again. @Peter Brown: This is basically an example of "bold, revert, discuss" (WP:BRD). The original addition was bold: an editor thought the content was sufficiently sourced or that it didn't need to be sourced. The deleting editor disagrees. Then next step is to discuss the difference of opinion. So yes, restoral must meet a higher standard than the original addition, because a second editor has (often implicitly) asserted that the material needs to be sourced. -Arch dude (talk) 04:21, 3 December 2018 (UTC)

@Peter Brown: In addition to the above, there are stricter standards for articles about living people. Not sure which article you are referring to, so this may or may not apply. WP:BLP says "Contentious material about living persons (or, in some cases, recently deceased) that is unsourced or poorly sourced—whether the material is negative, positive, neutral, or just questionable—should be removed immediately and without waiting for discussion." --Gronk Oz (talk) 10:16, 3 December 2018 (UTC)
