October 12[edit]

I have accidently removed an entire picture at the top of this page - I was trying to make it smaller - can you fix it up please? Sorry 203.132.68.1 (talk) 00:32, 12 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Not seeing the AfC helper toolbar [resolved][edit]

As instructed here Wikipedia:WikiProject_Articles_for_creation/Helper_script, I enabled the script and purged my cache. I know that it was indeed "working". When I viewed any userpage, I was getting the message to the effect of "error, the user is not listed in the Articles for Creation participants". That was before I was added to the list here: Wikipedia:WikiProject Articles for creation/Participants. I have now been added to the list and stopped getting the error message; however, I'm not seeing the toolbar that I was supposed to see. I wonder if you may have some advice for me. I'm using Google Chrome. --K.e.coffman (talk) 02:56, 12 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi K.e.coffman, by "not seeing the toolbar", are you saying that after you click on More ▼ in the toolbar on an AFC-applicable page, you're not able to see the Review (AFCH) link? Or are you saying that nothing happens after clicking on the Review (AFCH) link? Lourdes 09:27, 12 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Keep in mind that it only works on an actual pending draft page. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 09:41, 12 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
It should work on any Draft or Userpage. I use the script to submit pages to AfC and leave comments all the time. I suspect he is not looking under "More" Legacypac (talk) 09:54, 12 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
It won't automatically popup unless you set it to under preferences, but it should be under "more" Galobtter (pingó mió) 09:57, 12 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Ah, it's indeed under "More". Thank you for the help. K.e.coffman (talk) 00:48, 13 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of User Page[edit]

I have requested my user page to be deleted, but not sure how look it would take? ~~ DiasporaCryptid (talkcontribs) 03:49, 12 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I see that you've twice added (but soon after removed) the {{db-user}} tag. I would suggest that you leave the tag visible, as that puts the page into the relevant categories for speedy deletion requests. --David Biddulph (talk) 03:57, 12 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Is there a notability noticepad?[edit]

...or is this the most appropriate place? I am interested in French David. Thanks in advance. Τζερόνυμο (talk) 09:04, 12 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Can you point me to a few reliable sources that discuss the subject significantly? I may be able to comment then. Thanks, Lourdes 16:17, 12 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Unable to upload image[edit]

It will not allow me to upload a photo to a Wikipedia to which we own the rights.

What do I need to do to make this change? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rnewman ECC (talkcontribs) 12:05, 12 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Rnewman ECC. It's hard to know precisely how to advise you when you haven't explained what you mean by "it will not allow me"; but I'm guessing that you are a partner or employee of Essex Court Chambers, and are trying to upload a picture related to that. What is probably the critical point is that (with certain exceptions which are unlikely to be relevant here) Wikipedia requires that all its content be licensed in such a way that anybody may reuse it in any way for any purpose (commercial or not), under a licence such as CC-BY-SA. Your owning the rights is not enough: you have to explicitly release the image under such a licence. If you personally own the rights to the image, you can license it on the fly as you upload it; otherwise you need to follow the procedure in Donating copyright materials.
On another subject (and again assuming you are in some way part of Essex Court Chambers), please be aware that you are strongly discouraged from directly editing an article on a subject with which you are connected; and if you are in any way paid for doing so, you must declare this: please see COI and PAID. I also note (though I realise it is not you that wrote the article) that it lacks the independent reliable sources which are an essential for any Wikipedia article. --ColinFine (talk) 14:28, 12 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@ColinFine, many thanks for your response. You are correct, I did not write the article but find it strange that no image has been uploaded as I know in many other articles an image has been uploaded. Is there a way to tell who wrote the article, it is very much out of date. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rnewman ECC (talkcontribs) 14:50, 12 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Rnewman ECC, If you check the "view history" tab on the article-page you will see who created it in 2011 an who has edited it since then. Such info can be helpful, but I don't think it is very helpful in this case. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 15:14, 12 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The history tab on the article will show you who has edited it. --David Biddulph (talk) 15:11, 12 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

How to find the best page about climate change or global warming in a country or region?[edit]

I am trying to improve climate change in Turkey. Is there a way I can find the best "climate change in xxxx" or "global warming in xxxx" article to use as an example please? I asked on the talk page of global warming but no answer as yet. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Chidgk1 (talkcontribs) 13:44, 12 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Chidgk1 Welcome to Teahouse. Check out Climate change in Turkey and see if this is what you are looking for. By the way, if you intend to add/change the content, please support the claimed with independent, reliable source by providing inline citations. Thank you. CASSIOPEIA(talk) 14:06, 12 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
CASSIOPEIA So do you mean the article I am improving is already the best regional climate change article? I have already added lots backed up with reliable sources and nominated it as a "good article" (no reviewers yet) but I suspect it could still be improved a lot.

Chidgk1 (talk) 14:17, 12 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Chidgk1 Sorry I misread your question. For Global warning see here. For climate change, pls see Climate change in the Arctic, Climate change in the Arctic, Climate change in Australia, Climate change in New Zealand, Climate change in Canada, Climate change in Washington, Climate change, industry and society, Climate change in California, Climate change in Tuvalu. CASSIOPEIA(talk) 14:37, 12 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
CASSIOPEIA Thanks for replying so promptly but on the search link you mention I cannot see how to search for articles which are at least "good" quality.
Were there any good articles that fit the criteria, I would expect them to be listed at Wikipedia:Good_articles/Natural_sciences#Meteorology. Similarly, Wikipedia:Featured_articles#Meteorology. Try this search.

youtube videos[edit]

Why can't wikipedia work with youtube to let youtube host its videos and wikipedia use youtube videos for relevant articles? Svrangerchrista (talk) 14:23, 12 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Svrangerchrista. You'll probably get a better answer at WT:WikiProject YouTube. But for my 2p worth: YouTube is a commercial site. It is important to Wikipedia (and the WikiMedia Foundation) not to align itself too closely with any commercial site. Even if the Foundation were careful to conclude the deal in a way which ensured that YouTube's commercial interests had no influence on Wikipedia (if that were possible) there would still be a risk that people would think its independence was compromised. Also see WP:YOUTUBE and WP:NOTYOUTUBE. --ColinFine (talk) 14:34, 12 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Published sources, including the Premier League at https://www.premierleague.com/players/3259/Dominic-Blizzard/overview, say 1983. --David Biddulph (talk) 18:31, 12 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

adding conversion metric to whatever process[edit]

I can't find the page that tells me who to do the km to mi thing. It looks like this (9-foot (2.7 m)) but I can't find the abbreviations for what I need. Make sense? Can you direct me to where I need to go? Thanks, Einar aka Carptrash (talk) 18:45, 12 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Einar. See Template:convert. --ColinFine (talk) 18:52, 12 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
That's it, I'll add it to my cheat sheet, thanks, Carptrash (talk) 19:21, 12 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Legal Name Change from Morenika Vinnie to Linda Smith[edit]

I need to change my name I have a legal name change granted by a judge how do I edit — Preceding unsigned comment added by 107.77.249.2 (talk) 18:45, 12 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, IP user. I can't find the name "Morenika Vinnie" anywhere in Wikipedia. Which article is it you think should be changed? Please note that we can't take the word of an anonymous editor for this: we need a reliable published source for the change (and as long as the bulk of the published sources continue using a name, that would be the name we would use in the article. Sorry. --ColinFine (talk) 19:17, 12 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Fergie /Josh Duhamel[edit]

On Fergie’s page it says Josh Duhamel and Fergie are separated. On Josh Duhamel’s page it says they are divorced legally only one is accurate — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.58.124.115 (talk) 19:02, 12 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, IP user. Actually, it didn't say they are divorced: it only said they "announced they were divorcing". But even that claim was not referenced, and is not supported by the sources cited in the next sentence (they say only that they had "split"). So I have removed the sentence. Thank you for pointing out the discrepancy. I was confused, because I'd only heard of this Fergie. --ColinFine (talk) 19:37, 12 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright related question[edit]

Is it allowed to copy paste a full page from a book to an article page. e.g. [1] I know Quotes are allowed in the talk page discussions but where do we draw the line for acceptable vs unacceptable ?--DBigXray 20:59, 12 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@DBigXray: If the book is still under copyright, then that is not allowed. See WP:COPYQUOTE, which says " Extensive quotation of copyrighted text is prohibited. " RudolfRed (talk) 22:17, 12 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, I have added a copyright rev del template on the Talk:Regional power page, waiting for an admin to handle this request. --DBigXray 10:41, 13 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Done revdelled by another admin. --DBigXray 11:52, 13 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
