Talk page content?

[edit]

What should I do if talk pages contain no prior warnings but contain content that doesn’t belong in a talk page? Example: [1] — Preceding unsigned comment added by James-the-Charizard (talkcontribs) 01:51, 8 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@James-the-Charizard: Since it's an IP talk page, your only hope is to add a note at the top of the talk page to open a discussion with this person. Maybe suggest that the user create an account and then work in a sandbox since an IP talk page is not likely to remain stable. -Arch dude (talk) 04:28, 8 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

unable to submit the article

[edit]

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Stringed_music(china) this is my page and I provide the references, but this an error

I would like to know what is missing and what the exact problem is. Thank you. Lwsswlp — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lwsswlp (talkcontribs) 03:27, 8 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Lwsswlp: The reviewer is an actual person, (@Zanhe: in this case) and it's best to work with that reviewer directly, either on your article's talk page or on the reviewer's talk page. In this case, you can start by looking at the edit summary (hit the View history" tab) to see that the reviewer thinks that the "Submissi0n is improperly sourced". You have some good sources, but the article needs inline citations for individual sections, etc. See Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners. Working directly with the reviewer is more effective that coming here, because that reviewer has already exhibited an interest in your article and is therefore likely to continue to help you. -Arch dude (talk) 04:14, 8 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

article not showing in search engines

[edit]

Dear Sir/Madam, Several weeks ago I've published an article about Jiri Evenhuis but it is not showing in any search engines. Could you please advise on what I'm doing wrong? Thanks, T --Trudelies (talk) 07:45, 8 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Trudelies: Hello, new pages are not indexed by search engines for 90 days or until they have been reviewed, whichever is the shorter period. Eagleash (talk) 10:27, 8 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Global contributions not working

[edit]

About a week ago I noticed that every search of global contributions turned out empty. I use the link at the bottom of a user contributions page, and the results are the same no matter if the user has an account or not. What's going on? Sjö (talk) 10:08, 8 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

It's reported as broken at Wikipedia:Village pump (technical)#Global contribs down? and phab:T224930. I have commented it out for now.[2] PrimeHunter (talk) 10:49, 8 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

how to stop bots from posting on a talk page

[edit]

There was something like NO BOT EDITS sort of template to be kept on the talk page if desired. Can someone point me to that. thanks. --DBigXray 12:57, 8 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Might you be thinking of {{nobots}}? Sam Sailor 13:07, 8 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed Sam. Cheers. --DBigXray 13:10, 8 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Would anyone be willing to help me ask for permission to use an image from Twitter? (for the article Jim Verraros)

[edit]

I've been wanting to find an image to use in the article Jim Verraros. The subject of the article is pretty active on Twitter [3], so several months ago, I signed up for Twitter and asked him if he'd be willing to donate a photo or two for use on Wikipedia. A month or so later he liked my tweet, but didn't respond. I took that as an indication that he might be interested in helping out, so I sent him a followup explaining how he could release photos under the necessary Creative Commons licenses. But because of Twitter's character limit, I couldn't fit everything in a single tweet, and because I've barely ever used Twitter before, I'm not sure how to properly create a "thread" of tweets. I don't think that I formatted things correctly. I have no idea whether or not Verraros ever saw my followup, but he never responded.

I don't want to message him again myself, because I don't want to start pestering him. But I've been wondering whether someone who actually knows how to use Twitter would be willing to give it another try. He seemed to indicate some level of interest in helping with this, and so maybe if a second person asks him, he'll respond. It seems to me like it's at least worth a shot anyway.

I put the "image requested" template on the article's talk page, but I know that it can oftentimes take years for that to yield any results, if ever. I understand if no one's able to help out, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask here. Thanks. --Jpcase (talk) 14:19, 8 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

He probably receives so many messages, so yours were simply lost. I would try other means of communication such as email. Ruslik_Zero 15:07, 8 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I don't have any other means of contacting him. --Jpcase (talk) 15:34, 8 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Jpcase:The article has the interest of several wikiprojects (see its talk page). You might find an interested editor to help you with this on the talk page of one of those projects. Point out the benefits to Jim of having an image that is licenced CC-BY-SA that we can put on Commons. -Arch dude (talk) 15:39, 8 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding to add information.

[edit]

On Shamsheer vayalil Wikipedia there is an infobox. In that his net worth is indicated as 1.4 billion dollars. Below that infobox a line is also written in which his net worth is indicated as 1.4 billion dollars.

Main problem is that it is very difficult to identify the net worth is in United States dollars or Australian dollars.

I know that it is in United States dollars but I can't add this information in the infobox and also in the line below the infobox because l don't have a Wikipedia account. Someone please! fix this problem. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2409:4064:192:6557:BF35:CB02:3402:EC0D (talk) 16:25, 8 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

It's not really a problem but I've added it anyway. Again, sign your posts and format them correctly. If you can't manage to sign up for an account (and you don't need one to edit) or learn to edit, please make requests at the article talk page. Eagleash (talk) 16:51, 8 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Added information incorrectly.

[edit]

The editor who just now added"US" in Shamsheer vayalil 's net worth(in the net worth column present in the infobox and the line written below the infobox) has done a great job. But the editor did a mistake he added" US " after the net worth. It should be added before the dollar sign. So, I request the editor to correct this small mistake

Note: other editors who are interested to correct this may do so. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2409:4064:192:6557:7211:F0B0:95B0:F1C (talk) 17:33, 8 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I've made that small change for you. You could have done it yourself. Dbfirs 18:04, 8 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
No they couldn't! Eagleash (talk) 18:59, 8 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Columns problem

[edit]

Hello, is there a way to get rid of that ugly spacing above the column formatting at Boys'_Night_Out_(film)#Cast? (Ideally, please ping when answering – thanks in advance!)--Hildeoc (talk) 19:21, 8 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Hildeoc: Hi! I actually don't see the spacing issue above the column while reading the page. Are you referring to the issue with spacing while editing in VisualEditor? Thanks. OkayKenG (talk) 19:32, 8 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Hildeoc:, I think your edit may have taken care of it. I tried viewing it in desktop and mobile mode and don't see an ugly spacing issues. Have you tried refreshing your cache? Orville1974 (talk) 19:34, 8 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@OkayKenji and Orville1974: Thank you for posting! In fact, I am referring to the regular "Read" version: I still get this huge spacing displayed above the columns both in Firefox as well as MS Edge. I guess it must have sth to do with the infobox on the right???--Hildeoc (talk) 19:40, 8 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Hildeoc: I actually am confused as well, I was changing the zoom level (Ctrl + or -)and now see the problem you are talking about. It seems like the more zoomed out you are the bigger the spacing issue becomes. (on Firefox as well) OkayKenG (talk) 19:46, 8 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Hildeoc: That must be it, probably based on your screen resolution and monitor size. If you adjust the window size, it will most likely disappear for you. (So I guess some people may see it even though we don't) Orville1974 (talk) 19:47, 8 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Orville1974: Thanks once more. So, there is no way to actually fix that – regardless of the resolution / zoom / window size?--Hildeoc (talk) 19:54, 8 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Hildeoc: - No, unfortunately. Every browser handles it differently. In Chrome, regardless of what I do, I can't replicate the spacing issue. Orville1974 (talk) 19:56, 8 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Hildeoc and Orville1974: It looks like @Trappist the monk: fixed the issue. Please check it out to see if its working now. OkayKenG (talk) 20:10, 8 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Trappist the monk: Fuckin' lovely – thank you so much! (And, of course, thank you OkayKenG for notifying!) 😊--Hildeoc (talk) 20:15, 8 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for bring up the problem! OkayKenG (talk) 20:21, 8 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I learned something new, too. Adding the div trick to my tool belt! Orville1974 (talk) 20:49, 8 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Table element border color

[edit]

I know it's no big deal, but how come in Template:Plainlist/doc#Parameters, the table border to the left of the first table element List content appears to be darker than the remaining table border?--Hildeoc (talk) 20:46, 8 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hildeoc, This is from the master template {{Format TemplateData}} that's used to generate the table. The border color changes with respect to certain predefined values. In that case it appears a little bit darker because filling the field is recommended which is what the code "suggested": true means. If the field is required (not just optional) and the value "required": true is set , the border will appear black. Normal border color means the value is optional, "suggested": is set to false or just not defined. – Ammarpad (talk) 06:08, 9 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Plainlist formatting

[edit]

And one last issue for today: How come at Zeno_of_Elea#External_links, the Wikiquote entry keeps slipping into the same line as the Wikisource entry, although I used Plainlist formatting. I don't get it! Hoping for support,--Hildeoc (talk) 20:53, 8 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed We need the * symbol in-between each of the items. OkayKenG (talk) 21:23, 8 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@OkayKenji: Thanks for trying that! However, now the line spacing looks funny – its smaller than usual.--Hildeoc (talk) 22:59, 8 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Hildeoc: I'm not sure how to fix that. Perhaps another user will be able to help? OkayKenG (talk) 00:28, 9 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
