Making 4th tier headings more accessible...[edit]

Hi gals and guys.

In corneal transplantation, the subheadings Deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty and Endothelial keratoplasty are important headings. As it currently stands, they do not have a heading in the 'contents' box of the article. How do I give them one? Unfortunately, it is important to preserve the current hierarchy. ie, both of these headings do need to remain children of the lamella keratoplasty parent.

I'd appreciate your advice.

Thanks,

Vitreology talk 07:10, 21 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

According to H:LIMITTOC it should have defaulted to showing all levels, but as it didn't I've added {{TOC limit|4}}. --David Biddulph (talk) 07:37, 21 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
There was a {{TOC limit|3}} there already. I've removed both of them so that the default behaviour takes effect. -- John of Reading (talk) 11:10, 21 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
John of Reading, David Biddulph, Thank you both

Broken article Greta Thunberg[edit]

When i press the edit button on the Greta Thunberg article it changes from pending changes when i can request a edit but it needs to wait for approval to semi protected where I cannot request a edit and i saw a typo and was going to fix it but cannot fix it due to this bug not sure if it is supposed to be pending changes or semi protected but regardless it needs to be fixed

The article is semi protected - you have to use the talk page to request edits, using the Edit semi-protected template. ~~ OxonAlex - talk 10:31, 21 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Although the log shows it was only moved up to semi protection this morning, so some sort of caching error could explain showing as pending changes, but this isn't my area of knowledge. ~~ OxonAlex - talk 10:33, 21 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Can somebody tag this page as spam please? This site won't let me do it myself. 89.240.138.151 (talk) 11:32, 21 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Nominated for speedy deletion. David J Johnson (talk) 11:46, 21 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Removing speedy deletion tag[edit]

I wonder if anyone could check Timeline of computing 2020–29 article which has any sufficient content and I nominated it for speedy deletion but the deletion tag was removed by user:Tracy Von Doom?Saff V. (talk) 11:44, 21 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Huh, second time that von Doom lady has appeared in front of me (I saw them last night after we both edited 2019 Karbala bombing aswell). They have by their own claims had at least four accounts blocked for socking, but deny guilt. It's all a bit weird. 89.240.138.151 (talk) 11:55, 21 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Saket Modi[edit]

Hi there,

I recently noticed that Saket Modi's page has been redirected to Lucidius by Winged Blades of Godric stating WP:NOPAGE whom I tried to reach out at the talk page and left messages with no answer (Ref. 1). I think WP:NOPAGE does not apply here as the topic has received significant coverage in multiple reliable sources and is suitable for a stand-along page per WP:SIGCOV

The topic has been covered by various leading publishers including The Economic Times, Business Standard, Businessworld, Mint (newspaper), Forbes India and clearly passes the WP:SIGCOV and WP:GNG.

I will be so grateful if anyone could review Draft:Saket Modi again and help with this....thanks a ton. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2402:3A80:643:1AAA:FD42:1F1:CB96:643E (talk) 14:44, 21 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

How to keep text together[edit]

what is the syntax to prevent a string of characters being split by a new line? Newwhist (talk) 15:04, 21 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

You can use {{Nowrap}}, following the instructions on the template page. Deor (talk) 15:09, 21 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks - found it. Newwhist (talk) 15:26, 21 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

un-retire?[edit]

I retired from Wikipedia years ago and was considering coming back, just to fix small issues like grammar & sentence clarity. Can one "un-retire"? Thanks.Special-T (talk) 19:01, 21 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Special-T: Yes, you can: "Users who have retired may return at any point" (Wikipedia:Retiring) -- John of Reading (talk) 19:05, 21 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Special-T: Certainly. Just removed the "retired" banner from your user page, and start editing. RudolfRed (talk) 19:06, 21 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
With three unretires, you get a fourth one absolutely free (shipping and handling extra). Clarityfiend (talk) 18:47, 22 September 2019 (UTC) [reply]

Thank you.Special-T (talk) 11:22, 24 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Getting rid of the column on the right-hand side[edit]

I'm using the timeless skin for wikipedia, and I know that there's a way to get rid of the column on the right hand side (the column that says things like the categories a page is in, "what links here", or "print" link), but what is it? Can someone tell me how to get rid of it? Thanks!— Preceding unsigned comment added by Aven13 (talkcontribs) 21 September 2019 20:26 (UTC)

@Aven13: You can simply make your browser window smaller. Unlike vector, timeless is a responsive skin, which means that The position of the elements will be changed depending on the available width. Yust try it out. Other ways would probably involve Javascript, because normal users css can't affect things outside of the portal frame, but I can't test this right now because I'm currently on mobile and aren't able to see what the exact style definitions in the skin are. Victor Schmidt mobil (talk) 05:37, 22 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Aven13: Add the following: #mw-related-navigation{display: none;} to one of your CSS files e.g. timeless.css. Poveglia (talk) 13:29, 22 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I thought there was a drop-down selector in Preferences to set the max columns for Timeless, but I can't find it now. If I call the UserInfo API [1] I see an entry "timeless-layout": "three-column". Maybe Isarra knows? Pelagic (talk) 08:52, 24 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Editing in discussion with others[edit]

Hi, I was going back and forth with an editor to edit a page, and he hasn't come back to it.... What do I do? — Preceding unsigned comment added by AndrewNueberger (talkcontribs) 20:40, 21 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Your draft has been submitted. All you need to do now is wait patiently for review. In the meantime, that editor may give you further feedback.--Quisqualis (talk) 02:26, 22 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

unknowns in table[edit]

If one wanted to add a column to this table using the visual editor, how does one get 'unknown'(s) to appear in the cells in the same format that appear elsewhere in that table? Copy and paste from cell to cell doesn’t seem to work. Humanengr (talk) 22:16, 21 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Never mind — a balloon finally showed (though only briefly) saying this had to be edited in source mode. I'll handle it that way. Humanengr (talk) 04:59, 22 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Humanengr: Unfortunately the Visual Editor is not yet able to handle many of the tasks the normal editor can. See Wikipedia:VisualEditor#Limitations for more info. Poveglia (talk) 19:05, 22 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
