A general tip, Blaze The Wolf: if you've got a question about something in Wikipedia itself (about how it's organised, or how to work in it) it's often helpful to try searching for that word or phrase with "WP:" (in full, "Wikipedia:") on the front. Editing bug?[edit]

Ok, I know I literally just asked a question but I need some help. Sometimes when i go to edit something and I hit the Shift key to capitalize a letter it moves my cursor to the beginning of the line. What do I do to get this to stop as it's very annoy? I looked at the settings and Shift is not the key that should take me back to the beginning of a line. I'm on a chromebook and the shortcut to do that is Search + < which doesn't even include shift. vandalism by IP-adres[edit]

I couldn't really figure out where to report this, but I assume that if I leave it here, it will be dealt with appropriately. I came across an edit made by 82.14.254.23 . He/She only made 3 edits on October 5 but all are clearly malicious. I reverted the 1 I came across (the other 2 were already reverted). --Dutchy45 (talk) 15:19, 29 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Tenryuu, I was wondering if you could explain something? Now I've gotten an alert which says Your mention of 82.14.254.23 was not send because the user is anonymous. from WP:AIV. @Dutchy45: The "your mention was not sent" message is harmless, and can be ignored. In this edit I've included a link to your user page so that you will receive a notification about this help desk post. But the software does not send notifications to IP editors, and, for some reason, has been coded to display this "not sent" message every time it thinks you are trying to notify one.

You did post at WP:AIV and an administrator checked it for you, as you can see in this revision. The post was removed shortly afterwards; that noticeboard has a very quick turnover, and once an entry is dealt with, it is removed fairly quickly. -- John of Reading (talk) 07:08, 30 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Dutchy45, to add on to John of Reading's comment, you have most likely enabled (in your preferences) the notification system to send you an alert when a ping cannot be sent. This is normal for IPs. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 07:10, 30 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

How to handle am entry for a location with two possible actual places[edit]

In South Carolina there are communities that are not part of a formal town or city thus unincorporated. They usually are loosely defined and most use a Post Office from a neighboring town. There are two such communities in South Carolina that have the exact same name, but are in different parts of the state. Should one augment the original entry or create some sort of second entry with a exact or similar name? Oh, I know about that one. There are three real Rome, Wisconsins (plus a New Rome), and two fictional ones.

The usual way is to create two separate articles: Bugtussle, Goober County, East Dakota and then Bugtussle, Hogwash County, East Dakota. You would then put a hatnote on the top of each one saying something like "This is an article about the settlement in Goober County; for the settlement in Hogwash County, see Bugtussle, Hogwash County, East Dakota" and vice versa. Confusion Regarding Zimbabwe Cricketer[edit]

Hello Team,

There are two Zimbabwe Cricketers, "Wellington Masakadza" & "Richard Ngarava", Correct me if I'm wrong both are different players but the profile images in Wikipedia look the same or both images are of the same player, either it is of Wellington Masakadza or Richard Ngarava.

Hi Astar01, the Wikipedia articles Wellington Masakadza and Richard Ngarava don't have any images. The issue is on Google- which takes its information from many sources, not just Wikipedia. You would need to contact Google about this issue. Joseph2302 (talk) 20:54, 29 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@InsideOutdoors: Certainly. First: abandon your exiting account and create a new one, since your current username is not allowed because it is a corporate name: see WP:USERNAME. After you have created a new account with an acceptable personal name, declare your status as a paid editor: WP:PAID. This is mandatory for you to comply with our terms of use. next, go to WP:LOGO to learn about uploading the new logo. Finally, go to the talk page of the article about your company and create a new section there with a request to add the new logo to the article and add the {{request edit}} syntax to that section. You are prohibited from changing the article directly because you are a paid editor. Another editor will then come along and update the logo. This advises that those with a conflict of interest, including paid editors, are very strongly discouraged from directly editing affected articles, but should post content proposals on the talk pages of existing articles, and should put new articles through the articles for creation process, so they can be reviewed prior to being published.

Emphasis in original. What that means, InsideOutdoors, is that you will have a significantly easier time getting your changes to stay if you make edit requests instead of directly editing articles.
