Switching to Non-Mobile Mode[edit]

If I am editing Wikipedia from my desktop computer or laptop computer, and am given a link to an article, and I follow the link, and the article is displayed in mobile mode, is there a quick way that I can switch to regular mode by clicking a button or link? I know that I can switch to non-mobile mode by going into the URL and changing the en.m.wikipedia.org to en.wikipedia.org. Is there a less nerdy way to do it? (I know that, as a retired database nerd, I can do the nerdy way.) Robert McClenon (talk) 00:49, 13 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Robert McClenon: If you scroll to the bottom of the page there should be a link to desktop view. RudolfRed (talk) 00:59, 13 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Can I erase my sandbox?[edit]

Hi,

I am planning on writing a new article, and I understand I should do that in my sandbox. However, I have recently published an article entitled Mészáros effect, which I wrote in my sandbox, and now my sandbox contains the following text:

  1. REDIRECT Mészáros effect

Can I erase this, in order to write my next article in my sandbox? I am concerned that if I earse this short text, I might delete from Wikipedia my previous article Mészáros effect published article.

Or am I supposed to write the new article in a subpage somewhere? When I create such a subpage and I write something in it, and I do not publish it, it disappears when I close my browser.

Thanks, Harasztyan (talk) 01:01, 13 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello @Harasztyan:, it looks like you created the article in your sandbox and then submitted it to AfC, however the prefered space for AfC articles is in draft space or user space, so the article was moved to draft space by another user and then published to article space shortly after, leaving a redirect in your sandbox. You can safely erase the redirect in your sandbox, however the preferred place for article submissons is in draft or user space so you may want to create it there or move it out of your sandbox before submitting it. I've also added a title to your question. Dylsss (talk) 01:40, 13 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Harasztyan: You can create a subpage of your user page for the new article if you want, leaving the sandbox available for general testing. Just change "My article name" to whatever your new article is called in the following link and then click on it: Special:EditPage/User:Harasztyan/My article name. You'll get a new editing window in which to create your article. Don't forget to click Publish changes to save it periodically. —[AlanM1 (talk)]— 13:24, 13 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Keith Urban/Urbahn[edit]

I have changed the birth name of Keith Urban to Keith Urbahn. This is correctly referenced and noted in the article <refThe Origins of You: How Childhood Shapes Later Life></ref>. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2404:4408:1714:9F00:D00F:E2D1:25D:97E1 (talk) 04:55, 13 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I guess this is about your edits to Keith Urban. What would have helped in the first place is giving an edit summary: anonymous editors changing the names of public figures without leaving an explanation is often vandalism (I appreciate that it wasn't here, but there is so much vandalism on Wikipedia that editors sometimes shoot first and look afterwards). repeating the edit, still without explanation, looks like edit warring. The thing to do when somebody reverts your edit is to open a discussion on the article's talk page. --ColinFine (talk) 12:34, 13 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Google survey[edit]

I wouldn't mind taking your short screener survey, but I do mind clicking on a link that leads to Google. It's also unexpected that the privacy statement link also leads to Google. Is there a non-Google way to fill out this survey? 93.136.60.144 (talk) 05:18, 13 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

It's not clear to what survey you are referring, but no, if it's a Google Survey then there won't be a non-Google way to complete it.--Shantavira|feed me 08:38, 13 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
As far as I know, Wikipedia never presents surveys, so you must be referring to something which is nothing to do with editing Wikipedia, the sole area of concern of this help page. --ColinFine (talk) 12:35, 13 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I would appreciate if you stopped presuming I don't know what I'm on about. When visiting an article, there was a box above the infobox saying: "Hello Wikipedian! We are looking to learn from our users and how we can best support your experiences on Wikipedia. Please fill out a short screener survey and we may invite you to chat with us about your experiences. Thank you in advance for your interest and for visiting Wikipedia! [Visit survey] [No thanks] From the Wikimedia User Research team. For more information, see this survey's [privacy statement]." One link leads to https://forms . gle/pK8MpPZZUfXoA89i6 (which is a blacklisted link on Wikipedia!) and the other to https://docs.google.com/document/d/1l4nsMqXsjQwKuGMmX19DM4Ho_17tY9v82YCbVme7XOU. Please read Google and privacy if you still don't see anything wrong in Wikipedia sharing user data with Google. 93.136.154.142 (talk) 18:57, 13 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
If you don't wish to accept the terms of doing the survey, then don't. It's completely up to you, and only you can decide what is best for you. You could possibly contact the researchers to ask about alternative ways to take a survey. Dealing with Google, rightly or wrongly, is a fact of the modern world. 331dot (talk) 19:30, 13 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Where can I contact the researchers? 93.136.154.142 (talk) 20:15, 13 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism help request from Sdkb[edit]

I have noticed some vandalism at Blaženka Divjak. Namely, the chapter about "Ausbildung" is not relevant for the Wikipedia (it is just a resume). Would an editor please assist me with fixing it? Thank you, Amelung10 (talk) 08:06, 13 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Amelung10; it looks as if you've removed it. That's fine, but please be careful about the word "vandalism". Vandalism is editing designed to damage Wikipedia. Putting inappropriately promotional material in an article is not usually vandalism: it usually represents a misunderstanding of what Wikipedia is, not an attempt to damage it. --ColinFine (talk) 12:38, 13 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Misplaced short description[edit]

The page Wikipedia:Article_wizard/CreateDraft currently has a very weird short description full of wikitext and something about Ethiopia in July 2018, which I'm aware I can't fix with my permission level. I'm not sure where else to bring this up, but I can't imagine it's supposed to say that. Airbag190 (talk) 09:28, 13 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

No, that page does not have a short description. Perhaps you were looking at a different page? David Biddulph (talk) 09:32, 13 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I was certainly looking at that page, so if it doesn't have a short description, then I don't know where it's pulled one from. Here's a link to my screenshot for reference: https://i.imgur.com/3iqlnw9.png Airbag190 (talk) 11:00, 13 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
The only page which seems to have vaguely similar content is this old version of somebody's sandbox, but it's not clear why you were seeing some of that when viewing the article wizard page; perhaps a temporary glitch in the database? David Biddulph (talk) 11:27, 13 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
A glitch is the best guess I have. Airbag190 (talk) 22:46, 13 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Viewing the inspection progress of my contribution[edit]

Hello

My name is Ziv Elyashiv

Recently I wrote a contribution about Novolog-inc corporate.

After I've pressed on "Publish" I wanted to view the progress of the inspection by the Wikipedia community. Unfortunately, I didn't find where can I see rather it was approved, declined, or pending..

I would love to get some insights about how to see it for myself.

Thank you Ziv — Preceding unsigned comment added by Anpilaot (talkcontribs) 11:08, 13 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Anpilaot: Hello, the only contibutions from your account are this thread and a disclosure at your userpage. (Thanks for doing that). Did you create the item or draft whilst not logged-in? If you have a link to it please post it here. If not, it looks as if the item did not 'save' correctly. Eagleash (talk) 12:43, 13 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Prior to your question above, your only contribution to Wikipedia has been your edit to your user page to declare paid editing; thank you for doing that. If you tried to make any other edits you either didn't save it, or you weren't logged in at the time. Your edits are listed at Special:Contributions/Anpilaot, visible by clicking on the "Contributions" link at the top right-hand corner of any page. --David Biddulph (talk) 12:47, 13 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Anpilaot: Please take a look at WP:YFA for the best way to create and submit a draft for review. It's not as easy as just hitting the deceptively-named "publish" button. -Arch dude (talk) 15:33, 13 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
NovoLog currently redirects to insulin aspart, which has done so since 2007. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 15:36, 13 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks a lot for your answers guys! I'll read again about how to post an article and try again.

Thank you

Table Problem[edit]

& Sorry but I'm a neat freak

On my Talk Page, there is a Barnstar Award table & every time I try to add something below it, it's just added to the table format.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:TenthEagle#Barnstars_for_you!.

So the table isn't closed off - but I don't know why :( — Preceding unsigned comment added by TenthEagle (talkcontribs) 11:15, 13 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

You deleted the table termination in one of your previous edits. I've added it back. (Please remember to sign your posts on talk pages by typing four keyboard tildes like this: ~~~~. Short descriptions - Men's Keirin at the 2012 UCI World Championships[edit]

Hi, how do I change short descriptions. If you hover over [[1]], the short description says "British dictionary" and I don't know how to fix it. Thanks Red Fiona (talk) 11:30, 13 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Redfiona99: Hello, that description comes from Wikidata – not certain how it came to be there – I have changed it to something more appropriate. Eagleash (talk) 11:52, 13 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Eagleash that wrong description was inserted last week by a user who has made no other edits anywhere. I've dropped a note on their Wikidata User talk, though whether they'll ever see it I don't know. --ColinFine (talk) 12:53, 13 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@ColinFine: I saw the edit they made; it looked as if they'd used some sort of tool (?) which linked them to British Dictionary from which they could find a description but did not do it correctly. I too noticed the lack of other input and thought a message would go unheeded. Cheers. Eagleash (talk) 13:00, 13 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks @Eagleash:} fixing it, and for the explanation. That does explain why I couldn't find a way of fixing it. Red Fiona (talk) 20:30, 13 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Move access on Wikipedia[edit]

I am not able to receive the "move" access on the top right corner. Why is that? Thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aganguli20 (talkcontribs) 13:08, 13 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

See Wikipedia:Moving a page. You can't move a page yourself until your account is autoconfirmed, but before that you can request a move. --David Biddulph (talk) 13:11, 13 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I want tp update the page of B communications LTD[edit]

And i cann't do this, please assist. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 37.46.45.156 (talk) 13:24, 13 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I assume you mean B Communications. Go to its talk page at Talk:B Communications, and make your suggestion for the update. be sure to provide a reliable source (WP:RS). Add the following: {{request edit}}, and someone will come along and review and implement your suggestion. -Arch dude (talk) 15:29, 13 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

how to publish a page or move a page from my sandbox to be an article[edit]

Hello Everyone,

I just want to know how to Move out of my sandbox to make it an article

Thanks. (Sadekianovic (talk) 19:38, 13 September 2020 (UTC))[reply]

Either request a move or submit the draft for review by adding {{subst:submit}} to the top. Victor Schmidt (talk) 19:43, 13 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
hello @Victor Schmidt: I did that it is under review now thanks (Sadekianovic (talk) 20:20, 13 September 2020 (UTC))[reply]
@Sadekianovic: It's a minor thing, but the timestamp of your signature should be the last thing in your posting – please don't put parens around it. Thanks. —[AlanM1 (talk)]— 01:20, 14 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

UK Stamps[edit]

Hi Folk, does anybody know if British stamp images are public domain. scope_creepTalk 22:41, 13 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like they aren't, as they're Crown copyright according to Commons:Stamps/Public domain#United Kingdom. Joseph2302 (talk) 22:51, 13 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Joseph2302: The stamp I'm looking at [2] was issued in 1965. So I think it is probably out of copyright? scope_creepTalk 10:29, 14 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Feature Request[edit]

Im not sure if this is the right place to request this but can wiki put a "to the top" button at the bottom of long talk pages. I see that this page has a "skip to bottom". A similar "skip to top" from the bottom of long talk pages would be helpful. Word2001 (talk) 23:14, 13 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

In most browsers, the "home" key will take you to the top of a page. -Arch dude (talk) 23:55, 13 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

using blocked editors as resources[edit]

Is there any reason I shouldn't use a blocked editor as a resource -- asking them for their advice on their talk, for instance? —valereee (talk) 23:55, 13 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I think the answer is something along the lines of "it depends on the exact situation." You don't want to create a situation where it appears you are proxying for a blocked user, and some folks take a harder line than the actual policy about what can and cannot go on on a blocked user's talk page. Beeblebrox (talk) 00:36, 14 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Beeblebrox, that was what I was hoping. This isn't in any way trying to accomplish something they were trying to accomplish before they got blocked, purely a request for advice from someone knowledgeable about an article I'm drafting. —valereee (talk) 13:43, 14 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Valereee In general, a blocked user should only be using their talk page to request unblock, but it does depend on the situation. 331dot (talk) 13:47, 14 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
331dot, hm...I think maybe I'll go revert myself, then. I wouldn't want to get the person in trouble, thanks! —valereee (talk) 13:59, 14 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
