How to publish edited page?[edit]

Dear colleagues, I've created and edited a page on a public figure (person), but I don't know how to make it open to the public. What should I do to publish the page? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Regibus (talkcontribs) 03:08, 17 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Regibus: I see you have created a draft, but it is not ready to become an article. First, read WP:NACADEMIC to determine if he meets Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, called "notability". If so, then you will need to add more independent and reliable sources as references. Then you can add {{subst:submit}} to the top of the draft to submit it for review. There's lots more information at Help:Your first article. Happy editing! (Please remember to sign your posts on talk pages by typing four keyboard tildes like this: ~~~~. Commons & Wikidata[edit]

Moin. I'm afraid I'm too long away from the en:wp, I can't even find where to properly add this observation - sorry. It's not exactly a question that requires help, as the commons-link I just added to Haverhill–Bath Covered Bridge does work, far as I can tell. I however got a warning that the cat-name I used, Bath-Haverhill Bridge, does not link up to Wikidata. Should this contrib of mine lead to a problem I thought I should mention it somewhere just in case, and being unable to find a better place, I thought mentioning it here might bring it to the attention of someone who knows better than me to report or adress it accordingly. Who knows when a watcher might happen upon the edit or the article disc.? Regards, --G-41614 (talk) 07:15, 17 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Pinging Wikidata experts @Pigsonthewing and Tagishsimon: for assistance. Mjroots (talk) 08:32, 17 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@G-41614: It wasn't an error and you didn't have to do something. It was a hint that it might be beneficial to do something. Click "Wikidata item" under "Tools" in the left pane of Haverhill–Bath Covered Bridge. This gives Haverhill-Bath Covered Bridge (Q14705332) which at the time had no link to Commons at the bottom. It was added a little later in [1] so there is no longer a preview warning on the article. The Wikidata Commons link generates a Commons link under "In other projects" in the left pane of the article, and in other wikis listed at the Wikidata item. In this case there is de:Bath-Haverhill Bridge. After commons:Category:Bath-Haverhill Bridge was connected to the Wikidata item, it links the English and German articles under "In Wikipedia". Well ... thank you for the explanation. Long as the proper ends are connected ... yes, I have no more than a general idea about WD. With the kind permission of all those involved and not involved, I'll leave it at that. If this page and the en:wp in general require/know something akin to the planting of an Alder the de:wp knows, i. e. marking a section as resolved, far as I can say now would be the time. Thank you all again, --G-41614 (talk) 16:47, 17 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Correctpen[edit]

August 2021
Information icon Hello, I'm Rdp060707. I wanted to let you know that I reverted one of your recent contributions—specifically this edit to Human rights violations in Balochistan—because it did not appear constructive. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. If you have any questions, you can ask for assistance at the Help desk. Thanks. ----Rdp060707|talk 07:44, 17 August 2021 (UTC)

Response: Hatched area on the map displayed are incorrect as they are Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh in India and are nowhere near Pakistan Occupied Balochistan which is what this map refers to. Can Helpdesk get this edit completed as the map description is incorrect. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Correctpen (talkcontribs)

@Correctpen: As part of the normal Wikipedia:BOLD, revert, discuss cycle, I suggest you post your request on the article's talk page - Talk:Human rights violations in Balochistan - so that knowledgable editors can assist you with your suggestion. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 16:47, 17 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

problem[edit]

i created the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kyklos_Ideon page but in this page as you can see appears a warning "This sandbox is in the article namespace. Either move this page into your userspace, or remove the {{User sandbox}} template." Can you please tell me what is wrong? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Msofianop (talkcontribs) 08:35, 17 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

What was wrong is that you mistakenly moved your incomplete sandbox draft into mainspace, so I've moved it back. At the moment it has no references, but has many misplaced external links in the article text. Please read the advice at WP:Your first article, & the links therefrom. When you think that it satisfies the mainspace requirement you can submit it for AFC review. --David Biddulph (talk) 08:43, 17 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Another editor has reported your draft as being a copyright violation of already published material, so if that is confirmed the draft is liable to be deleted. A Wikipedia contribution needs to be in your own words, supported by references to published reliable sources. - David Biddulph (talk) 08:49, 17 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

How do I appeal a rejection? (Draft:Eugenio Lo Sardo)[edit]

 Courtesy link: Draft:Eugenio Lo Sardo

I created a page on Eugenio Lo Sardo, a very distinguished Italian archivist and exhibition curator. He has curate3d a number of important shows, like Eur3ka, on Hellenistic Science in Naples, and is well-known in his field (far better than I am and I have been on Wikipedia for years). The page was fully referenced, but it was then rejected by an editor who seems to be interested in Lego. Now, I can understand that lego person might react 'bah, another boring academic' and I might have the same reaction to a games person.

There seems to be a serious disconect between the reviewer and the subject. Is there anyway I can appeal this? Then, I can't actually find the draft page any more, how do I get back to it?

-Elizabeth Fentress .

The draft page is Draft:Eugenio Lo Sardo. It appears that the draft was declined by Sahaib3005 but I fail to see what their interests have to do with anything. An explanation was given in the notice as well as on your talk page. You can revise the draft and resubmit it with more references which meet the criteria provided to you (show significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject) Notfrompedro (talk) 16:46, 17 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
(ec) Hi Elizabeth Fentress. Draft reviewers are volunteers like any other, and don't need a specific knowledge on the subject they are reviewing, all they need to know are the policies and guidelines that define whether a subject might be notable or not to have an article in the project. Since are knowledgeable on the subject, it might be obvious to you why that person is notable, but you need to show it through the use of reliable sources. After your draft is rejected, you can either keep working on it and then submit it again for review, at which point another volunteer will reacess it, or you can contact the person who rejected it and explain to them why you believe the subject is notable. @Elifent: You already asked this question in the #How do I appeal a rejection? section above. In the future, please keep conversations in one place instead of starting a duplicate. Also, if you are Elizabeth Fentress, then you have a conflict of interest (COI) in editing the Elizabeth Fentress article. You may declare your COI on your user page and use the {{request edit}} template on the article talk page when you have suggestions to improve the article. If your COI extends to this draft, please declare that as well. Thanks! (Please remember to sign your posts on talk pages by typing four keyboard tildes like this: ~~~~. Citing a sign?[edit]

Hello, I took this picture of a sign that has information about a certain dam: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Bagnell_dam_information_sign.jpg. I am unsure how to cite the information on the sign. Bwmdjeff (talk) 17:07, 17 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Bwmdjeff: There is a template for this. See Template:cite sign Mike Turnbull (talk) 17:16, 17 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Problem in Creating wikipedia page from India[edit]

Hi Sir/Mam

I am working for my client and try to make his wikipedia page from India. All the time it shows that it is in sandbox. How can i remove it from sandbox to live? Can you please guide me?— Preceding unsigned comment added by Andrefowles (talkcontribs) 18:59, 17 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Courtesy link: User:Andrefowles/Sample page @Andrefowles: Please immediately go to WP:COI and afterwards, disclose your connection on your user page. Then change your user name, per WP:MISLEADNAME. See Wikipedia:Changing username or just abandon your old user name. Finally, read Help:Referencing for beginners. You need to make proper citations, and not have inline external links. TimTempleton (talk) (cont) 19:09, 17 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Andrefowles: just to add to this, if you're being paid for your services then you'll also need to take particular care of WP:PAID, which will including disclosing any website accounts or webpages you are using to solicit clients (if relevant). Notice also WP:NPOV and make sure that your client is aware that Wikipedia articles can be rewritten by anyone in the community and that they will have no control if the article includes (reliably sourced) negative material about them or if they wish to have it deleted. — Bilorv (talk) 20:52, 17 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Create article with italics[edit]

Hi, what is the code to create an article in italics? (A film etc.) Tks. Desertarun (talk) 19:44, 17 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Desertarun: You could either add {{italic title}} at the top of the article, or use an infobox that includes the template, such as {{Infobox film}}. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 19:58, 17 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Title problem[edit]

In the Category:American film directors of Persian decent, I think the word decent here should be descent, which would mean the category title would need to be updated to American film directors of Persian descent; possibly a redirect? (which I am not good at creating). This would align the category with the other subcategories like it (such as Category:American film directors of Indian descent, etc. (as an example). Thoughts? Any help appreciated and thank you.--FeanorStar7 (talk) 20:07, 17 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@FeanorStar7: You are correct. There is some bureaucracy in renaming categories but it can be skipped if the creator agrees. I have posted to User talk:AmirahBreen#Category:American film directors of Persian decent. PrimeHunter (talk) 20:36, 17 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The creator agreed. I have renamed Category:American film directors of Persian decent to Category:American film directors of Persian descent. PrimeHunter (talk) 23:22, 17 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
