what constitutes close association?

Is it unreasonable with regard to conflict of interest for me to add/edit sourced factual information (e.g. what features are located at the park/historical info) about a park when I occasionally volunteer there? I do not want to claim to represent the park(s), as I really don't, and I do not feel that my level of involvement is particularly different from an average community member who happens to like that place. @Ullpianissimo: WP:COI is really about potential unconscious bias, so in the large grey area between clear COI (e.g., a paid editor) and clear disinterest, you must make a decision for yourself as to whether or not you are biased. If you stick to facts, cite sources, and make sure you are using encyclopedic wording, you will be OK. -Arch dude (talk) 03:34, 28 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

DOIs greater than 10.49999 triggering a flag

Hello! I'm not totally sure where to direct this so I'm bringing it here. The usage of DOIs with prefixes greater than 10.49999 in CS1 and CS2 templates results in the templates being flagged with "Check |doi= value (help)." However, there do appear to be valid DOIs that now use prefixes of 10.50000 and greater (see, e.g., here) so I'm wondering how this automatic Check doi value flag (detailed here) can be adjusted for DOIs in 10.50000 range. One would have to modify Module:Citation/CS1/Identifiers, which holds the check for DOI's. I am not an expert at Lua, but it seems like lines 547 to 556 identify the patterns which are considered "bad doi". Someone with more experience would need to modify them so that teh DOI is no longer flagged as invalid. Victor Schmidt (talk) 07:39, 28 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

despite having a Masters Degree in digital designs where the first principle is based around the uers experience and usability, Wike - I cant even upload a photo ... what is wrong with me, do I need to be a professor to use you ? I thought Wiki was about being open for all ? Hi, Gary. What barriers were you encountering? Is it that the Commons Upload Wizard itself is hard to use, that it's not clear which upload method to use, the licensing model, adding media from Commons to encyclopedia articles, or general UX and usability? I'd agree that the MediaWiki platform is nothing like Flickr when it comes to curating images.
(In relation to c:Commons:Help_desk#Photo Sharing license questions . AFAIK, Wikipedia and its sister projects have been BY-SA from the beginning. I imagine this was an ideological choice for promoting "free knowledge". But on the other hand I have read some essays / blog posts claiming there are practical and legal problems with non-commercial (NC-ND) licensing.)
I see you added photos for Marcus Miller and Tim Garland, was the link Tenryuu provided above a big help in getting to that point? It’s good to see that there are some photos you’re willing to release under a free license.

Contradictory guidance for short description writers

Greetings, I've recently begun writing short descriptions and have noticed an apparent contradiction between the guidance/policy at WP:SHORTDESC and the guidance provided on the Wikipedia android app. The linked policy states 'start with a capital letter, and avoid a final full stop' but the app tells the editor to start with a lower case letter unless the first word is a proper noun (to reproduce this, begin writing a article description on the app with a capital letter). This is a fairly minor issue of course, but it is creating inconsistency in short descriptions across the project. Personally I favour using a capital letter to begin, but in any case the guidance should be made consistent. I hope raising it here either shows me I am missing something or brings attention to the issue. Thanks! Original airing dates for television programmes

I added some original air dates to an article, but they were removed - this was because a series premiered in the UK four weeks before the USA. Hello, IP user. This is the only edit from that IP address, so we can't tell which article you edited. My guess would be that you added dates without a source, but I don't know without seeing the article. Template:SfnRef Issue

The Charlton (1798 EIC ship) article utilizes the template {{SfnRef|House of Commons|1830|p=977}} and that is incorrectly displayed in text as "..£27,985.CITEREFHouse_of_Commons1830". Referring to the template's page Template:SfnRef, I can see nothing wrong in the way the template is used in this article, and suspect that the template itself has an error. It is interesting that the first text in the template is CITEREF, which seems out of place. The Wikipedia community would appreciate it if someone more knowledgeable than I in the use of templates could check on this. Thank you. Truthanado (talk) 15:31, 28 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

That would also work. I used {{Sfnp}} [1] which adds parentheses around the year, because the article already had one such reference. @Truthanado: {{SfnRef}} does not make a reference by itself. It is for use inside a reference like "The full footnote" at Template:SfnRef#Examples. PrimeHunter (talk) 15:56, 28 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Linking to a section whose title is in brackets

@Purple velvet22: You can submit the draft for review by adding {{subst:submit}} to the top of the markup. This will add a review notice to the top of the item. However, if you were to do so now it would quickly be declined. The draft contains no sourcing; biographical articles cannot be accepted without proper sourcing. Please also review the general notability guidelines and the more specific musical ones. @Purple velvet:, even if the matter of referencing can be fixed, this would need a lot more work. Here are the second and third sentences: Copland's Mother, changed Copland to 'Copeland' in 2001. Chrystal continues to go by Copland and does not ever go by 'Copeland'. Confusing, and not obviously necessary.
