[edit]Sandbox
[edit]Ive just written an entire article in my sand box I close my computer and when i went back to make the final edits before publication everything disappeared. Can i get my sandbox article back ? thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lilslak (talk • contribs) 04:10, 18 November 2021 (UTC)
- @Lilslak: Did you click Publish before shutting down your computer? (This button used to be called Save, which was a more accurate description.) ClaudineChionh (talk – contribs) 04:16, 18 November 2021 (UTC)
- @Lilslak: Your seem to have edited at one time in a sandbox at User:Jrobbins878/sandbox which belongs to Jrobbins878 but that was back in February, so I'm afraid recent content there or in your own sandbox is gone. The save button says "publish" to remind users that whatever they save can be seen by anyone who knows where to look and is automatically licensed as CC BY-SA 3.0. However, it is not at that stage an article in main space. Mike Turnbull (talk) 13:11, 18 November 2021 (UTC)

[edit]I am trying to get rid of an error message that look like |website =. I'm not sure exactly what it means or how to resolve it. The link to the sandbox is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:KobiIheoma/Nancy_Boyd-Franklin?venotify=created&action=edit. The citation in question is [3].
Any help that can be given is much appreciated!
KobiIheoma (talk) 04:26, 18 November 2021 (UTC)
- @KobiIheoma: The {{Cite web}} template can be a bit confusing because, in this case, the
|website=
parameter is actually used for the name of the work or publisher (see Help:Citation Style 1 § Work and publisher). In this case, "APA Div. 43: Society for Couple and Family Psychology" might be the right value. You have correctly provided the full URL in the|url=
parameter. ClaudineChionh (talk – contribs) 04:37, 18 November 2021 (UTC)
Deletion of a history link
[edit]HI. I needed somebodys help in deleting this link to a history page of an article I'm revising and improving as nobody's able to help me in the Tagalog Wikipedia. I unwittingwly inserted a link to a copyrighted book that I was browsing while developing an article. Much appreciation to anybody who could help.
https://tl.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Aklat_ng_Pahayag&oldid=1906499 Atn20112222 (talk) 05:40, 18 November 2021 (UTC)
- This is the English Wikipedia, and I'm afraid that various people will say they can do little to help, and anyway probably no-one here speaks Tagálog. I'll have a go, although this is unusual. In general terms, the vast majority of books and journals printed since around 1930 (it varies by country) are still in copyright anyway. There's nothing wrong in referencing, or linking to, any book or journal. It's the actual reproduction of copyright material by anyone else that's the problem, not the linking to it. Obviously linking to a site with a breach of copyright (eg containing a free download of a copyright work) is not allowed.
- For example, the brief D. R. Hillers article on Revelation 13:18 in the reflist is freely online at Bulletin of ASOR. In fact, it's a {{cite journal}} and not a {{cite book}}, and I have updated the reference. It's great that the Tagalog Wikipedia uses the English templates! Plus a Captcha as well...
- The url of the Ang Pahayag kay Juan (Statement/Gospel of St. John?) gives me a warning that it's on a blacklist. I suggest that you simply delete the whole reference, leaving the main text intact. There are probably better sources for this book.
- The other only links with a working url are [1] which can be be reffed as Lohnes, Kate. "Siege of Jerusalem: Jewish-Roman war [70 ce]". Britannica Online. Retrieved 18 November 2021., and [2] which should be White, L. Michael. "Understanding the Book of Revelation". Frontline. Retrieved 18 November 2021. (Edit to see the code and paste into the article). I hope this may have helped: otherwise please let me know which specific link you are having trouble with. MinorProphet (talk) 10:43, 18 November 2021 (UTC)
- Hey there MinorProphet. I didn't make myself clear of what I wanted to happen. If you click on the link https://tl.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Aklat_ng_Pahayag&oldid=1906499 , you would see a nonreference link in a subheader to a PDF file ending with https://... 8aec-03b7-426d-ab35-c8d7ac15b369.pdf. This was a mistake. I would like this article version [3] be hidden from the readers. This what I mean visually, for example , https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=John_Seigenthaler&offset=20171127130845%7C812365719&action=history contains link versions in the history that are inaccesible and are denoted by a strikethrough 06:26, 12 September 2015. I'd like to see this 09:11, 11 Nobyembre 2021 on https://tl.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Aklat_ng_Pahayag&oldid=1906499 . Thanks.
Atn20112222 (talk) 20:33, 18 November 2021 (UTC)
- Now I understand. I can see the problem. I recognise the type of cover, I've owned several in the same series. That's an unfortunate and rather obvious mistake. Even so, if anyone else were to find a similar sort of link on en:wp, they would only have to delete it. Even if an editor only went around inserting this type of link in many articles, they would only get a warning, I suspect. It seems that all your other edits are completely OK. Anyway, by 10:08 (https://tl.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Aklat_ng_Pahayag&oldid=1906512) you had deleted the offending entry, only the rather obvious -4,137 rather draws attention. I have no admin or any other rights on en:wp at all, I'm merely an editor. As far as I know, that would need an administrator on Tagalog Wikipedia to completely strike out the entry like in the John Seigenthaler article. There must have been some pretty serious legally-actionable vandalism going on for this to happen, The editors were banned as well. I haven't come across that sort of thing before, but I stay away from controversial articles. I could ping the relevant admin here if you like.
- I'm almost 100% certain that no-one on English Wikipedia or any other WP except yours would have the rights to do this, each language project has its own separate admins. Personally, I would not worry too much. I realise that the political situation in your country is a bit different from the UK. There may be a certain amount of shame involved (I have certainly done a number of silly things on WP in the past) but I would tend to forget about it. Even if what you did makes you liable in some way, no admin is going to try cover it up, just for your sake - if that is your intention. There is so much going on on any WP that a minor mistake like this (in my opinion) is really not going to be noticed. Happy editing. MinorProphet (talk) 09:40, 19 November 2021 (UTC)
Profanity filter
[edit]Hi all, asking for someone else.
An IP posted a message on a Ref Desk page which contained the word 'suck' (all the rest of the IP's posts have been completely OK). They got a message (I assume one of those big red ones) that a filter determined the message was harmful. I couldn't find anything relevant, can anyone enlighten me? Cheers, MinorProphet (talk) 06:29, 18 November 2021 (UTC)
- Please identify the IP so their edit filter log can be examined. PrimeHunter (talk) 07:14, 18 November 2021 (UTC)
- Odd's bodkins, that's a busy page, literally thousands of naughty people per day. I had no idea. Thanks for your swift reply. Rather than point a finger at anyone, since I feel the IP was acting in good faith and seemed slightly shocked that a relatively mild word met with disapproval, I tracked the entry down in the log. It shows 1,053 (LTA 1053) (hidden). Would that be enough, especially if the filter contained the relevant word? Cheers, MinorProphet (talk) 09:20, 18 November 2021 (UTC)
- The IP didn't do anything wrong. It looks unintentional that the edit filter catches 'suck' alone in code using a regular expression to target certain longer words. I have posted to Wikipedia:Edit filter/False positives/Reports#2600:1700:d0a0:21b0:a00e:f5aa:e4e8:9861. PrimeHunter (talk) 10:12, 18 November 2021 (UTC)
- Great, PH, thanks very much for your expert help. I'll let them know. Cheers, :>MinorProphet (talk) 10:51, 18 November 2021 (UTC)

Australiasian Masters
[edit]Hi Help Desk,
I am FIDE Master Jesse Noel Sales. I won the event 2005 Australian Masters but I have not edited yet the Wiki Info about myself.
Please refresh the information because when I click it, it says its no longer active or.
Thank You.
Kind Regards,
FIDE Master Jesse Noel Sales

- @MCFMJesse: Your name on the list in Australasian Masters is a red link because there is no article about you on Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not the place for autobiographies, so you should not create an article about yourself. If winning this competition meets the notability guidelines for sport, someone else may eventually write an article about you. ClaudineChionh (talk – contribs) 08:15, 18 November 2021 (UTC)
- You can try and ask at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Chess, perhaps someone will be interested. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 17:14, 18 November 2021 (UTC)
- Winning that tournament wouldn't be enough to meet the WikiProject's notability guideline, nor would achieving the FIDE Master title.Pawnkingthree (talk) 20:51, 18 November 2021 (UTC)
- I searched online through some specialized sources (Chessbase, The Week in Chess, Europe Échecs) and did not find any useful mention. TigraanClick here for my talk page ("private" contact) 09:33, 19 November 2021 (UTC)

How to retrieve deleted content from draft?
[edit]I created a draft of a page HELD NFTs that I thought followed the rules, but apparently there was an issue and it was deleted without warning. I need to get the text back but I can't contact the deleting admin "Ponyo", it looks like they've blocked messages or I just don't know where to look. Thank you --Launch455 (talk) 09:36, 18 November 2021 (UTC)
- I'm alerting User:Ponyo of your post. User talk:Ponyo has been briefly semi-protected and you had unfortunate timing. PrimeHunter (talk) 11:01, 18 November 2021 (UTC)
- @Launch455: I can email you the content, but the subject of the draft in no way meets the notability criteria for inclusion and draft space is not a venue for hosting promotional content on "up and coming" NFTs. Please review the messages and links on your talk page for further information as to how your draft article was inappropriate for inclusion on Wikipedia.-- Jezebel's Ponyobons mots 20:43, 18 November 2021 (UTC)
Repeated requests to login
[edit]For the past 30 days, when I first go to Wikipedia each day, I find that I'm not logged in - even though each time I find this, I login again and check the "Keep me logged in for 365 days" box.
I use a password that was NOT automatically generated either by the Wikipedia software or by my browser.
I'm running on an iMac under Apple's OSX 10.13.6 software and have been using Google Chrome as my default browser (Version 95.0.4638.69 (Official Build) (x86_64)).
This also happens when I switch to the latest version of Apple's Safari browser.
Any suggestions?
Thanks Bill H — Preceding unsigned comment added by Magillaonfire (talk • contribs) 09:47, 18 November 2021 (UTC)
- I'm no expert but it sounds to me as if something is preventing cookies from being saved in your browser, be it private browsing mode or cookies being disabled. 331dot (talk) 09:49, 18 November 2021 (UTC)
- Sounds unlikely/silly, but did you knowingly (or perhaps unwittingly) make any changes to OSX (or Wikipedia preferences) around the time the problem first manifested itself, eg an OS update/upgrade? For both browsers to have the same problem seems strange, since cookies are definitely handled by the browser, not the OS afaik. I know very little about Macs. Do you ever actually log out of WP or close the browser completely (rather than leaving it minimised)? Tried leaving the browser open overnight? You could try asking at Wikipedia:Reference desk/Computing. There's several knowledgeable people there (plus yours truly, sometimes - ahem). MinorProphet (talk) 13:29, 18 November 2021 (UTC)
Thanks. I don't typically leave my desktop on overnight... I shut it down completely (as opposed to simply putting it to sleep). Thus, if I have a Wikipedia tab open, it's automatically shut down.
I haven't done any upgrades to my operating system in the past 6 months so I didn't touch any settings there. I'll have to go back and check my settings in both Chrome and (although I rarely use it) Safari.
I tried posting a message over at Reference desk/computing but was curtly told that "this has already been answered [here] at the Help Desk".
Thanks again. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Magillaonfire (talk • contribs) 23:52, 19 November 2021 (UTC)
My edits disappeared
[edit]Hello,
I made edits to a Wikipedia page, saved and published them and they disappeared. I looked at the edit history and didn't see how that happened. Can someone help me? — Preceding unsigned comment added by TGrahamSW (talk • contribs) 14:38, 18 November 2021 (UTC)
- TGrahamSW Your edits to Comparison of Auto Repair Shop Management Systems were removed by an anti-spamming bot. 331dot (talk) 14:42, 18 November 2021 (UTC)
- Given that the article in question consists of nothing of any encyclopaedic significance, and is instead clearly being used to advertise products, I shall be nominating it for deletion. Wikipedia is not a trade directory. AndyTheGrump (talk) 14:52, 18 November 2021 (UTC)
displayed math in float?
[edit]At Constant-recursive sequence#In terms of matrices I'm trying to display a formula inside a float, and a weird box is rendered at the end. I can't find any how-to syntax help for displaying formulas inside a Template:float, what would be the usual method for this? Caleb Stanford (talk) 15:40, 18 November 2021 (UTC)

I was messaged on wikipedia vandalised the subnautica page
[edit]I didnt i just tried to add information about the next subnautica game it just kept reverting it! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.34.98.130 (talk) 16:24, 18 November 2021 (UTC)
- Hello IP! I have reverted your most recent edit to the page and warned you as you added info for a Subnautica 3 while stating there are merely rumors about it. Wikipedia does not add information solely based on rumors, if we did then a lot of false information could be added to Wikipedia simply because someone heard a rumor about it. Information needs to be reliably sourced in order to be added to an article (with certain exceptions which I will not detail here). ― Blaze The WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 16:28, 18 November 2021 (UTC)
Which article title should be used
[edit]Hello! For the page INAPL, should the acronym of the institution be used as the article title, should it be titled the National Institute of Anthropology and Latin American Thought, or should it use its official Spanish name: Instituto Nacional De Antropología y Pensamiento Latinoamericano? Thank you for your help, Tyrone Madera (talk) 19:00, 18 November 2021 (UTC)
- Per WP:UCN, generally we use the title that is most commonly used in English-language sources. If it is primarily known by the acronym, use that. There seems a strong correlation between this and FIFA, which is commonly known by the acronym for the French name. --Jayron32 19:02, 18 November 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks, Jayron32. The acronym is the title that is most commonly used in English-language sources, so I will just leave it be. Are the names in the first sentence of the lede correctly formatted? Tyrone Madera (talk) 19:21, 18 November 2021 (UTC)

[edit]Hello,
While editing a few articles back in 2007 and 2008, I edited under 152.130.7.130. This was a public omputer with many more edits than the ones I did.
Is there any way for me to take credit for 8 or 10 of the edits under this address now that I'm editing using a Username?
No problem if this is not possible.
HeartSpoon HeartSpoon (talk) — Preceding undated comment added 20:05, 18 November 2021 (UTC)
- HeartSpoon There is no way to assign those edits to your account. You are free to post on your user page that you had edited under that IP address, or made those specific edits, if you desire. 331dot (talk) 20:14, 18 November 2021 (UTC)
Changing coordinates causes chaos -- but only sometimes
[edit]Well, maybe not chaos, but a problem. Another user reverted one of my edits, claiming that it generated an lua error. The edit link he/she sent did indeed show the error, but I was unable to duplicate the error when I accessed the article the usual way; ditto for several other articles to which I made exactly the same type of change. Any possibility of a bug somewhere? Here's a link to our discussion (there's probably a more elegant way to get to the relevant Talk page/topic, but here goes): [4] (Meanwhile, my router -- hopefully my router -- has changed my IP address.) -- 2603:6081:8004:DD5:6451:2AC4:EB73:1BE (talk) 23:45, 18 November 2021 (UTC)
