August 1[edit]

Please restore the page for Weird Al's Current Tour[edit]

There was a page for Weird Al Yankovics "The_Unfortunate_Return_of_the_Ridiculously_Self-Indulgent,_Ill-Advised_Vanity_Tour" that was recently deleted. There are pages for at least his 5 most recent tours, so it would stand to reason that this tour shoudl have a page as well. When I previously looked at this page it was occasionally being vandalized by someone who was deleting information from it and listing their edits as 'improvements'. Now the page is gone and all that exists is a redirect to the page about Al himself. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:446:C200:3A45:E27B:58F4:7933:ACB6 (talk) 11:53, 1 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

You seem to be referring to an article that was turned into a redirect. The content is still available at the old history tab. As far as I can see, the reason for the removal was that the only source for the information was Weird Al's website, which isn't WP:independent. You have started a discussion on Talk:"Weird Al" Yankovic, which is the correct venue. Mike Turnbull (talk) 13:51, 1 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
See also WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS. GoingBatty (talk) 14:10, 1 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the reply. I find it odd that the entries for the current tour was deleted while independent entries for the most recent tours still exist. If it was just for lack of sources beyond Al's website, there are plenty of newspaper and A&E reviews of the tour that could be linked to. There was also no mention of this in the discussion for the page itself before it was deleted, it just simply went away one day without warning. 2601:446:C200:3A45:BDF0:9966:B340:7D0B (talk) 01:31, 2 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

If you have a specific request for an edit to an article, please be bold and make the change. Or you could take it to the talk page to discuss it. weeklyd3 (block | talk | contributions) 00:43, 1 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
COMPLAIN TO GOOGLE. We do not make this claim and have never done so; this is entirely on Google and they refuse to listen to our complaints about it. —Jéské Couriano v^_^v a little blue Bori 00:51, 1 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Please read our article: Mirza Masroor Ahmad. Wikipedia does not claim he is a Caliph. We state that it is his official title within the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community. If you wish to suggest changes to either of these two articles, then make your suggestions on their respective talk pages. -Arch dude (talk) 02:11, 1 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Could someone explain to me why my edit got rollback.[edit]

My edit on Draft:Ash Lu was rollbacked by an admin, could someone explain to me why is that edit wrong? 2601:647:4C00:D260:24B9:3383:F982:988F (talk) 03:00, 1 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The reason that I tagged this G11 is because the creator is still creating new pages after more than ten triggers on abuse filter in zhwiki and even tried to __INDEX__ this user page, I don't belive it's still in good faith. 2601:647:4C00:D260:24B9:3383:F982:988F (talk) 03:04, 1 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
You tagged the page for speedy deletion under G11, but the page did not meet that criterion. G11 only applies to pages that are exclusively advertising or promotion and that would need to be fundamentally rewritten to serve as encyclopedic pages. FAdesdae378 03:07, 1 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
It contains an obvious lack of notability, even the "featured" corresponding article on Baidu Wiki only contains user generated sources. And I believe the email address in the information section is a violation to WP:NOT. So how to deal with draft now? Propose MfD? 2601:647:4C00:D260:24B9:3383:F982:988F (talk) 03:21, 1 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yes. —Jéské Couriano v^_^v a little blue Bori 03:37, 1 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Could an IP propose XFD's? Or could someone help me create the page?2601:647:4C00:D260:24B9:3383:F982:988F (talk) 03:42, 1 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I now found my account. QiuLiming1 (talk) 04:30, 1 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Well it just got deleted under G11 again, strange... 162.211.130.197 (talk) 04:51, 4 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Biographical entry[edit]

How does a person go about appearing in Wikipedia Lonelylawyer (talk) 04:50, 1 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Lonelylawyer:First, you become notable by our definition: see WP:N. This means you have articles written about you in major newspapers or equivalent. After you are notable, then someone chooses to write a Wikipedia article about you. -Arch dude (talk) 05:22, 1 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Elton John[edit]

I learned quite a bit from the entries to the article. Thank you. The only thing missing is the John/Taupin tribute to John Lennon, Empty Garden, which was one of the finest tribute songs to the late Beatle/Solo Artist I've ever heard. Just a mention would be nice. 24.205.220.120 (talk) 05:27, 1 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

hello, @24.205.220.120, if you wish to request a change to the elton john article, use the talk page -> Talk:Elton John. note that you will need reliable sources to back up your claim. lettherebedarklight, 晚安, おやすみなさい, ping me when replying 07:12, 1 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@IP editor. We do have an article on that song at Empty Garden which says it was a tribute to Lennon but even there the sources are thin, so if you have something reliable please add it. Mike Turnbull (talk) 15:54, 1 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

How I can create a page for our Company on Wikipedia?[edit]

How I can create a page for our Company on Wikipedia? We are a United Arab Emirates based Luxury Brand and deals in Men, Women's and Kids products. We tried to create a Wikipedia page for our company/brand few times. But may be we are doing wrong somewhere and we are getting rejection on each review. We are able to provide any kind of legal documents to prof that we are a real business and a well-known brand in the Gulf ad middle east. We also ship to all European countries as well.

The purpose of sending this help message is just to know the right steps which we can follow to publish our company Wikipedia page.

Our Brand Name : Chic Our Website : <redacted> Thank You 87.201.36.154 (talk) 08:24, 1 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The best thing to do is not attempt to do so further. You seem to have a common misunderstanding about Wikipedia in that it is not a place for companies to tell the world about themselves. The existence of your company is not in doubt, and is not the issue. This is not social media where mere existence warrants a mention- this is an encyclopedia with criteria for inclusion, called notability. The Wikipedia definition of a notable company is written at WP:ORG. Any article about your company must summarize what independent reliable sources have chosen on their own to say about it, showing how it meets that special definition. Sources like the company website, staff interviews, press releases, announcements of routine business transactions, and other primary sources do not establish notability.
Wikipedia has articles, not pages, and those articles are not for the benefit of the subject in any way. There may be benefits, but those are on the side and not our primary goal. We have no interest in how the presence (or lack) of a Wikipedia article affects your business. Our only interest is in summarizing independent reliable sources. THe best way to do this is to allow independent editors to take note of your company in independent reliable sources and choose on their own to write about it(without any prompting). 331dot (talk) 08:30, 1 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
To save anyone else the trouble, I did a quick Google search and don't see any independent coverage of the company. Just a nice website. That will make it very hard for anyone to do an article. TimTempleton (talk) (cont) 23:04, 1 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Donation to Wikipedia[edit]

I would be very happy to make a donation to Wikipedia, but not through the channels shown on a page I am about to read.

If I had bank account details I would transfer a donation immediately. I am not about to raid anyones bank account, I am just a very interested reader of your content and have been for many years.

Kind regards

All Refs are Lua errors?[edit]

Could someone take a look at Drag Race Italia and help me figure out why all of the references are Lua errors of some type?Naraht (talk) 12:57, 1 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Because Trappist the monk made a bad edit to Module:Citation/CS1/Configuration that they or another admin who sees this should revert. Not your fault. * Pppery * it has begun... 13:03, 1 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yes indeed! Virtually all articles are now broken in that way.... should be fixed soon I hope. Mike Turnbull (talk) 13:06, 1 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Lua argument error in reflist[edit]

Hi folks -- I just made a small edit to this page using the visual editor: Carolyn Jefferson-Jenkins . When I saved the change, the entire reflist section was replaced with a whole bunch of this error: Lua error in Module:Citation/CS1 at line 1392: bad argument #1 to 'pairs' (table expected, got nil).

I hadn't touched that section, but I went to revert the change to start over, but when I view the previous versions of the page, they show that same error. Makes me wonder if there's a problem with the reflist tempate, but it doesn't seem to affect other pages I checked.

Any idea how we can fix this?

contact[edit]

How do I contact someone who is on wikipedia? (ie alert them to draw their attention) Derekguthrie (talk)derekguthrie Derekguthrie (talk) 14:58, 1 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Derekguthrie There are a few ways. One is to Ping them as I just did you. Another is to use their user talk page to deliver a message. The third is to visit their user page and look in the left sidebar for a link called "Email this user", which will only appear if they have e-mail enabled. If it is there, you can use that to send them an e-mail. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 15:05, 1 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Talk Page (Credit Union Times) non-creation[edit]

Clicking on TalkPage at Credit Union Times just gets me "try later" feedback, something about a timeout: "The server did not respond within the expected time." Stock Photos[edit]

Is it okay to use photos from websites that request that you don't redistribute their content on other stock platforms on Wikipedia? User1042 (talk) 19:18, 1 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I'm gonna guess not because that doesn't sound like the images are licensed compatibly. PRAXIDICAE🌈 19:29, 1 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@User1042: Absolutely not. That's not a request, it's a directive. The original copyright in an image belongs to the photographer: this includes "stock" photos. The only exception would be for an image that the site is falsely claiming is copyrighted but that is actually in the public domain (e.g. an image taken before 1927), but even then, you should go find and use the published image in the original publications and not the one on the "stock" website. -Arch dude (talk) 19:52, 1 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Data Error[edit]

Hi in Mike Ditka's wike page there is a date error in a video. The president borack Obama was not the president in 1985. 2603:8001:A100:DB29:1D33:D9DC:9CBE:A2C6 (talk) 22:30, 1 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

"The 1985 Chicago Bears" means the roster from that season (read: primarily ex-players), not the current roster. There's no error. —Jéské Couriano v^_^v a little blue Bori 22:54, 1 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
There is no error. Mike Ditka#Political views says:
In October 2011, Ditka and the 1985 team went to the White House after they did not attend in 1986 due to the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster. He presented President Obama with a Chicago Bears jersey with the number 85 on it with "Obama" on the back of it.[1]

Clicking the link shows that the reference does indeed say 1985. As both the reference and our article say very clearly, it's the team from 1985. Obama was president in 2011 when the visit took place. Even if the external reference had an incorrect year in the title (it doesn't), we don't falsify titles of references so we would still have said 1985 on the link.
