Convert cents to dollars and cents?[edit]

Is there a template or something to easily convert a number of cents to a display of dollars and cents? For example, convert "37" to "$0.37", or "12345" to "$123.45" or "6" to "$0.06". I understand I could do something in Lua, or potentially by making a template that uses some string manipulation functions, but if there already is such a thing, I'd prefer to just use that. Thanks. -Rwv37 (talk) 05:09, 2 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Rwv37: US$0.37, ¥123.45, €0.37, £123.45 Bazza (talk) 09:42, 2 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Bazza didn't explicitly say they were using the template {{Currency}}, Rwv37, so you'd only know if you looked at the source of their reply. --ColinFine (talk) 14:00, 2 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@ColinFine: Thanks for your elaboration on my over-terse reply.
@Rwv37: Of the two templates I used ({{Currency}} and {{Format price}}), the latter is the simpler to use, although it doesn't automatically add or link a currency symbol. Bazza (talk) 14:07, 2 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The 1099 UK equivalate[edit]

Good day to you all, I am searching for the United Kingdom tax document that is the United States 1099 tax document, can you help me please, I am barrington 82.29.149.159 (talk) 06:36, 2 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi 82.29.149.159. This help desk is primarily for asking questions related to Wikipedia; it's not really a general information type of help desk. You can try asking about this at Wikipedia:Reference desk, but you might actually get faster results by simply Googling or Yahooing your question and seeing what comes up. I Googled "UK 1099 equivalent" and a number of search items showed up. Perhaps if you try that, you'll find the information you're looking for. -- Marchjuly (talk) 06:45, 2 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

How to demerge and create 2 seperate pages?[edit]

We had merged 2 company pages into Optare & Switch Mobility. As they were considered same. Now they are seperate entities and want to demerge. How can I proceed with this? We have been trying for very long, need help. Bhor.sankalp (talk) 07:45, 2 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

First of all you need reliable, independent] sources that confirm your claim. Once you have those sources, open a discussion on the article talk page. Shantavira|feed me 08:22, 2 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Bhor.sankalp: The Optare web site says they are part of Switch now. It seems the only thing that needs to be done is a page move to remove Optare from the title. You can discuss on the talk page. TimTempleton (talk) (cont) 12:21, 2 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Indian wikipedia editor[edit]

An editor asked me to find an Indian wikipedia editor for my entry on Riya Mukherjee since he/she would be more familiar with Indian media. How can I find an Indian editor for my entry (as recommended by another Wiki editor Henry_Templo. Gwenzil (talk) 08:39, 2 August 2022 (UTC)Wikipedia:WikiProject India[reply]

Gwenzil, convenience link Draft:Riya Mukherjee. As HenryTemplo suggested, you could try Wikipedia:WikiProject India. Their talk page is Wikipedia talk:Noticeboard for India-related topics. TSventon (talk) 09:05, 2 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

create a company wikipedia page[edit]

Hi,

I own a company that has been around for over 14 years, and quite well established, and has been included in many tier 1 publications. I am wondering how my company can aply for a wiipedia page?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Ben 86.186.106.15 (talk) 09:09, 2 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

You do not typically 'apply' for a Wikipedia article (not page). Articles are created by persons (editors) with no connection to a topic based on what has been written about the subject in independent, reliable sources. See the section above; #How I can create a page for our Company on Wikipedia?. Wikipedia cannot be used to publicise a business. Eagleash (talk) 09:19, 2 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Need DOP List in excel or pdf[edit]

Hi, I am Jagdish im working in sirui india as a technical head in pan india i want to help about im finding dop in all india that i can help to show new lenses.

thanks & regards, Jagdish Navghane 9029077915 203.192.230.191 (talk) 10:15, 2 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I’m unclear about what you are asking. Please explain what DOP is. TimTempleton (talk) (cont) 12:11, 2 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
DOP is probably director of photography; Jagdish apparently seeks to sell some lenses to DOPs in India. Doubt this encyclopedia can help; perhaps a "directory"?--Quisqualis (talk) 07:02, 4 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, could you please change url and name as Liv Bona Dea Hospital 84.51.15.114 (talk) 12:06, 2 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

What is the new name, and please provide a source. You can also be bold and make the change yourself. TimTempleton (talk) (cont) 12:09, 2 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
You asked this last month. Have things changed since then to make your requested change more likely to succeed? Bazza (talk) 12:27, 2 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I see that Theroadislong has moved the article, and has also tagged it as probably not meeting Wikipedia's criteria for notability, so unless somebody attends to that, it is likely to get deleted. --ColinFine (talk) 14:08, 2 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Nominated for deletion[edit]

Hi everyone, someone nominated a photograph for deletion in an article I wrote. I explained to him that I don't know the author of the photograph, as it was taken in the 1930s, and there is no signature or indication of who took it behind. I own the original of the photograph, and I am very happy for it to be in the public domain, but the person who nominated it for deletion is now not responding to my messages, and has left me in this situation. The deletion message shows on the article, which isn't great. Would appreciate some help. Thanks! Altaruse (talk) 12:54, 2 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Altaruse! The deletion has now been performed by the very experienced editor Theroadislong, with whom you should discuss the matter. I see no message from you on Theroadislong's Talk page or on the Article's Talk page so far.
Please remember that all Wikipedia editors are (presumably like yourself), unpaid volunteers working from home or other places of internet access whenever they choose: none of them work to any set schedule, and all of them have lives to lead, so you should never expect any response from another particular editor in less than a few days. (Also, it's the middle of the holiday season in the Northern hemisphere.) Remember, Wikipedia has no deadlines.
As you've already been advised, possession of a photo (whether print or negative, etc.) in itself does not convey copyright in it, which (in the absence of a legal contract) remains with its creater (and their subsequent estate) for a considerable time: however I see that File:Leo Junek (1899-1993).jpg includes extensive data to suggest that it's in the public domain. Also, since the subject is deceased, Fair use may come into play. These issues are what need to be discussed. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 90.201.73.20 (talk) 13:51, 2 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Professionals who want Wikipedia entries[edit]

Hi, I'm a journalist and author based in London, UK. I know many professionals who are high achievers who deserve to have a page. What is the best way to go about it. Someone called Jonathan Parker of Wikiproficiency based in Los Angeles just contacted me and wanted to charge at least $500 for an entry but I am suspicious of him. 82.17.9.184 (talk) 13:05, 2 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

You can see WP:YFA for a good overview of how to put together an article. For articles on living individuals, there is a more strict policy for article content, covered at WP:BLP. From a glance at their website, I agree with your assessment on Wikiproficiency, they seem to make several Vague and Misleading claims, and "Jonathan Parker" is just a name for a chatbot. I also don't see the organization mentioned anywhere on wiki at the moment. You can see WP:PAID for more information regarding paid editors. WelpThatWorked (talk) 13:22, 2 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I would also recommend reading Wikipedia:An article about yourself isn't necessarily a good thing for some negatives of having a Wikipedia article before deciding to go about it. Alpha3031 (tc) 13:27, 2 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
You are right to be suspicious of anyone who promises to create articles here for payment. Most will fail for various reasons including their incompetence. See also WP:SCAM. Mike Turnbull (talk) 13:43, 2 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia has articles about "notable" subjects, not "deserving" subjects: See WP:N. If a subject is not notable, no article will be accepted. Wikipedia does not endorse any paid editor, and there are a lot of scammers out there. Notable subjects generally attract interested volunteer editors. A desire to have a Wikipedia article about oneself usually indicates a basic misunderstanding about the nature of Wikipedia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Arch dude (talkcontribs) 13:47, 2 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

"Welcome to your talk page"?[edit]

When I logged in I had a childish "start page" put on my talk page. I have seen a couple of others. Is there some way I can remove it from my own Talk page? Sammy D III (talk) 13:18, 2 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The View history tab seems to show that at 00:16 UTC today you replaced all of the previous contents with this . . . thing, but presumably you didn't do so deliberately; perhaps it's a mis-performing new "feature".
I suggest you go to the history and undo that latest revision. Hope this helps. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 90.201.73.20 (talk) 13:36, 2 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Sammy D III: This is a new "feature" of the way User Talk Pages work. Any completely blank Talk Page now shows this banner: it is not edited into the page and will disappear after any new content (not categories, apparently) are added. I have no idea who dreamed this up.... Mike Turnbull (talk) 13:53, 2 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Michael D. Turnbull: Sigh. I was afraid of that, I just hoped I could turn it off somehow. I guess I have to put something there so I can look like an adult. Thank you (and @90.201.73.20:) for your time. Sammy D III (talk) 15:48, 2 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Sammy D III: Try a single space. Or failing that {{nbsp}}. Bazza (talk) 15:57, 2 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Bazza 7: Neither worked, and the banner doesn't show up in Preview so you have to post it to see if it's still there. I'll just leave a small, stupid section. Whatever. I think they're just trying to grab editors off the street. Have a nice day/night. Sammy D III (talk) 16:39, 2 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Bazza 7: Follow up: a space in a section title get's you a blank section with "edit source" the only content. Thanks Sammy D III (talk) 17:45, 2 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Sammy D III: according to Wikipedia:Village pump (technical) § New talkpage welcome message, you can add the following to your common.css to hide it on your end:
.ext-discussiontools-emptystate { display:none; }
Rummskartoffel 18:50, 3 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Rummskartoffel: That worked. Thanks for the link, I would have had trouble with that. A lot of effort for a page of nothing, but it matters to me. Thanks. Sammy D III (talk) 18:05, 4 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Requesting To Alter Information About Nikki Fried[edit]

I noticed that the comment about Nikki Fried distancing herself from Charlie Crist mentioned that she criticized him for Florida's inadequate unemployment compensation system and that a following comment claimed that the inadequacy was created by Rick Scott. I wish to ask that this all be corrected because Charlie Crist was in fact governor during the recessionary period from 2008 to 2009 which did have a poor unemployment compensation program and very bad supervision. The only thing that Rick Scott did was make the compensation so small that it was insignificant and ineffective at helping families. Crist belonged to the political decision from many that decreased the amount of funds in reserve that would be kept for the unemployment compensation program. 2601:703:0:11D0:EDD7:8D95:46C7:2F64 (talk) 15:37, 2 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. The place to discuss this is on the talk page Talk:Nikki Fried. Be prepared to back up your assertions with citations to reliable published sources. ColinFine (talk) 15:51, 2 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

BurgerFi Edit[edit]

Can someone please edit this page for me. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BurgerFi The new location is Fort Lauderdale, Florida, not palm beach, and CEO is no longer Julio Ramirez. It is CEO Ian Baines and President Patrick Renna Jrauth23 (talk) 15:51, 2 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. The place to request this is at the talk page Talk:BurgerFi. The fact that you've asked for somebody to edit the page "for me" suggests to me that you have a connection with the business: if so, thank you for asking rather than going ahead to do it yourself. If that is the case, please declare your conflict of interest on your user page; or if you are in any way compensated by or in connection with that business, make a formal declaration of yourself as a paid editor. Then you can make an edit request on the talk page (see that link for details) and somebody will look at your request. You can make it more likely that a volunteer will pick up the request by citing a reliable published source for he changes. ColinFine (talk) 15:54, 2 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Colin. I am indeed on the marketing team for BurgerFi and received this request from the team Jrauth23 (talk) 17:47, 2 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi again, Jrauth23.I have accepted your edit request - however, I am concerned that I have replaced information cited to an independent source (the location) by information cited only to a non-independent one. Was your move report in the press?
I have also removed the "Advert" tag, as other editors have removed the offending material. I'm still not convinced that there is enough independent coverage to establish notability.
I see you have put a few words on your user page. Please make a more full disclosure, as required by the terms of service. See WP:COIPAYDISCLOSE. ColinFine (talk) 17:31, 4 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Relinking[edit]

Is Special:Diff/1101557769 appropriate? Utfor (talk) 15:57, 2 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Utfor Not something I'd worry about but has already been reverted. The lead sentence is still a WP:SEAOFBLUE which I'd be more concerned about. I think that readers would know what "restaurant" means without linking it, for example. Mike Turnbull (talk) 16:11, 2 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Is it OK now, with the link turned blue? And if it isn't, why is similar linking to fast-food restaurant OK? Utfor (talk) 18:27, 2 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Well, it is consistent with the rest of the article; however, the article is grossly overlinked (see WP:OVERLINK). For example, food and menu are linked, which does nothing to help the readers' understanding of the article. 2603:6081:1C00:1187:49B4:94C7:A931:F855 (talk) 19:52, 2 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Request to review new article[edit]

Hi I created a new Wikipedia article (Nizar Hassan) and, if possible, I would appreciate an experienced editor to review/patrol it and/or give me feedback on how to improve it. Thanks! -- Samer.hc (talk) 21:54, 2 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Not a new pages patroller, but the page seems like a decent start. My main complaint would be that the "interviewed by/cited by" bit seems excessively specific, and doesn't really convey anything a shorter statement wouldn't. WelpThatWorked (talk) 22:12, 2 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I recommend deleting the entire "International visibility" section, which tells us almost nothing about him. You could instead try to find some independent sources (not based on what he has said), which tell us something about him, or about his political views. Maproom (talk) 07:33, 3 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the recommendations @WelpThatWorked, @Maproom! I elaborated the "cited by" because I wanted to justify properly the initial statement, i.e. "His political analyses have often been cited worldwide when analyzing Lebanese events", which I considered relevant for his notability. I could drop most of the section, mentioning just the major outlets, I guess? And yeah, I can expand the article with his political views appropriately sourced. Samer.hc (talk) 21:51, 4 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Samer.hc - Nice job! Titles of newspapers and magazines should be italicized per WP:ITALICS. See Template:Cite news#Authors for the correct parameters for references with two or more authors. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 20:04, 3 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks @GoingBatty! I am a bit confused. I used the automatic citation adder for most of the references, and reviewing the list, I believe the titles of newspapers are in italic, and the refs I added manually with multiple authors follow the Vancouver style. Please, could you specify a bit more where did I miss the appropriate styling? Thanks! Samer.hc (talk) 21:51, 4 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, @Samer.hc! This article looks really good. You've got lots of information and lots of citations. The only couple of things I can think of that you can improve (besides getting this to FA-status) is to not Wikilink two of the same things- like Wikilinking LiHaqqi after you already linked it earlier in the article. Another thing is if you can get a picture, put it in. The last thing is, even though it is tempting, beware of too many citations. You don't need three sources just to verify one claim. If three sources have the same information then the best thing is to just pick one of them, unless you need two sources to make the claim complete (like saying America used to be a colony owned by the British- if one source says "America used to be a colony" and another source says "America used to be owned by the British" then you can clump those two sources together to form this: America used to be a colony owned by the British.[1][2]) Otherwise it is a great article and this will help Wikipedia. edit donation's message[edit]

Hi. Where do I edit the message about donations that pops up when I opened WP? It goes on asking for money because we are reliable and so on, while having a duplicated word (this this). Hooray for good proof reading! :-) - Nabla (talk) 22:28, 2 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Nabla, you might want to bring this up in WP:VPW, since us editors cannot control the content of the donation banners. Also, you definitely don't need to donate. The WMF has more than enough money for the next few years. Sungodtemple (talk) 02:58, 3 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you Sungodtemple. I am an admin, so maybe I could edit it, but I don't every corner of the WP. Certainly not the dark and remote dungeons where dragons guard the treasure :-) I already donate (not much but) some time, more than €2 of it :-) Anyway, the message changed by midnight, so it does not matter much now. I might look around and see if I find it anyway, some day. And I might ask at the VPW someday. Thank you! - 03:08, 4 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Get Published[edit]

Im having trouble figuring out how to get published MRTopNotchNME (talk) 22:31, 2 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

If this [1] is what you are trying to publish, I wouldn't bother. It has absolutely zero chance of being accepted as an article. This is an encyclopaedia (or at least attempts to be), not a provider of free advertising space. Read Wikipedia:FAQ to find out what is actually required. And then read Wikipedia:Username policy, since you are going to need a new one to contribute further. AndyTheGrump (talk) 22:57, 2 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@MRTopNotchNME:Start by choosing a notable subject. Notability is the only absolute requirement for a Wikipedia article. If your subject is not notable by our definition (WP:N), then no article is possible and any attempt at an article will waste your time and ours. If you have two or more published reliable sources that discuss the subject at length, then proceed to WP:YFA. -Arch dude (talk) 13:23, 3 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
