In the error message, the word "help" is in blue, indicating that it is a wikilink, in this case to Help:CS1 errors#generic name. --David Biddulph (talk) 03:42, 17 February 2022 (UTC)

Which part of the help page did you find difficult to understand? If you can explain your uncertainty then perhaps the wording can be improved. You describe the mistakes as "glaring"; they were made by 175.32.106.109 and 175.33.49.35 who may be people known to you. --David Biddulph (talk) 08:09, 17 February 2022 (UTC)

Table needed for antique cars

I need a table, however that is too technical for me. A GA reviewer has suggested I set up a table for Lambert_(automobile)#Lambert_automobiles. The reason for it being so that the model picture is next to the description. Example being 1906 Model 4 description with the Model 4 picture on right side. Next would be 1906 Model 5 description with the Model 5 picture on right side. This idea then carried through 1915 Model 48-C description with the 1915 Model 48-C picture on right side. Then at the end Lambert Trucks could be another table. Can someone set this up? Thanks for help. --Doug Coldwell (talk)

@Doug Coldwell: Hi there! I created a table with the VisualEditor, which is easy to do - see Help:Introduction to tables with VisualEditor. I used copy/paste to move the text and drag/drop for the images. Is that what you were looking for? GoingBatty (talk) 14:23, 17 February 2022 (UTC)

If you do not remember your password for Wikipedia, and you did not set up an email address, (or the email address you specified is no longer valid) then there is no way to recover your account. Please just create a new one. --ColinFine (talk) 16:11, 17 February 2022 (UTC)

Removal log?

When you look at a talk page and see that a comment was removed from the history how do you tell who removed it and the reason they gave for doing that? Is there some sort of removal log associated with the page? 14:00, 17 February 2022 (UTC)2600:1700:D0A0:21B0:E491:C262:EEFB:B8F2 (talk)

All edits are saved in the page history, you should be able to see who removed the comment by clicking the "view history" tab at the top of the page (on desktop, sorry I don't know what it looks like on mobile). It does sometimes take a bit of effort to see which edit actually removed the comment. Ivanvector (^Talk/_Edits) 14:02, 17 February 2022 (UTC)

Some edits can be removed completely by administrators if the edit violates various policies: see WP:REVDEL. These will not be seen on the edit history of the page but are logged at Special:Log/delete. Mike Turnbull (talk) 14:05, 17 February 2022 (UTC)

Replacing photo

I have been in contact with Juli Ellyn Briskman who has a wikipedia biography page. The current page has a photo of her from 1983 (source unknown). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Juli_Briskman I would like to replace that photo with her current, official photo from her official government page. She is a county supervisor for Loudoun County VA. https://www.loudoun.gov/2232/Algonkian-Supervisor-Juli-E-Briskman I have a letter from her on official letterhead (attached) that duplicates wikipedia's statements regarding copyright relating to her official photo. I need help deleting the wrong, old, photo and replacing with her current official photo as she requests. The letter and photo come from her and Rey Cheatham Banks, Chief of Staff Algonkian District Supervisor, Juli Briskman Loudoun County Government I need help to use the correct photo on Juli Briskman's bio page. Hello, GrassRootsGuy. I can see why Briskman might want that photo replaced: it actually comes from her 1983 high school yearbook, and was doubtless used because under US copyright law at the time, it is in the public domain. We would like to have a more up to date picture. Normally we require for an email from the copyright holder, as explained at donating copyright materials. I'm not sure whether the official letter you describe would be adequate, because it is unlikely that she holds the copyright to the picture. But I suggest that (since you should upload it to Wikimedia Commons anyway) you ask at C:COM:Village pump/Copyright, where they can give you better guidance. One further question: are you associated with Briskman? If so, you should read about editing with a WP:conflict of interest. ColinFine (talk) 18:38, 17 February 2022 (UTC)

@GrassRootsGuy: If you know Ms. Briskman, you can just grab a camera and take a picture of her. You are the copyright holder of such a picture, so you can upload it to Commons under a CC-BY-SA license with no need for paperwork. -Arch dude (talk) 03:39, 18 February 2022 (UTC)

How to fix infobox wikilink generated by template parameter?

I came across a formatting glitch in the infobox in the article O'Halloran and Francis v. United Kingdom. The article uses Template:Infobox European case, which accepts a bunch of parameters for the names of judges presiding over the case. It seems that these names are used to automatically generate wikilinks for each of the judges. This will obviously be a blue link if the article exists and a red link if it does not.

The glitch comes up with judge Matti Pellonpää, who does not have a Wikipedia article, but shares a name with a Finnish actor and musician. Outside of a template, I would typically resolve this either by avoiding the wikilink or by creating a piped wikilink such as the one that the article's author appears to have tried this by supplying [[Matti Pellonpää (judge)|Matti Pellonpää]] as the parameter. Unfortunately, this approach does not work with the current template.

How best to fix this? Is there a way to format the parameter passed to the template that would either suppress the wikilink or allow it to be piped? @Rupert Clayton: It will yield the desired result, if you input Matti Pellonpää (judge){{!}}Matti Pellonpää but this trick is not likely to be understood to be understood by many well-intentioned editors and so the template must be fixed with a modification which I'll be carrying out soon. ---CX Zoom(^he/_him) (^{let's talk}|_contribs) 19:39, 17 February 2022 (UTC)

How do i ask for a page to be locked?

I have been watching a corporate page for a while now. The business that the page talk about is constantly trying to add spin to the page to make them sound more favorable. Lately I have had to undo their changes a couple times a day. Restricting the ability to edit the page probably wont work. IP editor: You seem to be engaged in an WP:EDITWAR with the other editor. I side with you view that their edits are not appropriate, and I have issued them with a warning against edit warring, I must also do the same to you, too. Looking at your range contributions, you have also breached our WP:3RR policy. So please don't revert them again. Protecting this page against one determined user is not appropriate. You failed to do three essential things, which I hope you will do in future. These are:

• Explain the reason for your revert in a clear, concise edit summary with each revert
• Go to the other editor's talk page and attempt to engage with them over your concerns about their poor editing, and advise them about edit-warring.
• Raise the matter on the article's talk page and explain why you have reverted. The registered user should then explain their rationale and seek consensus for proceeding (which they are unlikely to get)

Consider the scenarios where an editor make an edit, no matter how poor. If you simply revert but never explain via an edit summary why you reverted them, why on earth should they think their behaviour is not OK? They'll simply think yours is not, and repeat their action. So we get a cycle of disruption which is not acceptable. But page protection is not the solution. Try to put yourself on the 'right side of the law' by explaining what you're doing and why. I will block both of you if I see this pattern of editing continues, but I hope you will appreciate that I side more with your view of what the article should say than that of the registered users. Thank you Nick. I am not trying to cause trouble. I want to do things by the rules, I just don't know how. I would be happy to walk away from this if I knew someone else was taking care of the problem properly. This company conducts their business in a very dishonest way at the cost of disabled people. I can't do much to stop them from doing that but I can try to keep their Wikipedia page honest.

I realise you weren't causing trouble, so I just wanted to steer you gently towards the best ways of approaching these matters. I've added the article to my 'Watchlist' for a few months. I suggest you register for an account so that you can not only add pages to your watchlist, easily deal with issues like this using WP:TWINKLE but also communicate better. Your IPv6 address is constantly changing, so anyone trying to communicate with you might have great difficulty. Hope this helps,

What are the policies concerning mostly helpful editors who have very poor spelling skills/otherwise exemplify edit creep?

I don't want to open up an ANI or dispute resolution over an editor I've encountered, but it's safe to assume that most of their significant edits are laden with egregious spelling errors throughout despite usually adding relevant information to a page. The information they supply is often organized inappropriately in a page or given undue weight, but it's all (again) usually deserving of some kind of mention. What are the policies for editors that are high maintenance/prolific writers that can't write/general producers of good-faith edit creep? I know editors are expected to edit Wikipedia when they are at their best, but I don't know if their "best" is possible. Mewnst (talk) 23:20, 17 February 2022 (UTC)

@Mewnst: Check out WP:CIR for expectations and possible next steps. "A mess created in a sincere effort to help is still a mess" The editor might be better off making requests on the article's talk page rather than editing the article directly. RudolfRed (talk) 23:54, 17 February 2022 (UTC)

Thanks! Something like that is what I was looking for, but it's somewhat unfortunate that it may be treated like any other form of disruptive editing. That policy has its merits, but it feels wrong to ban an active, good-faith editor. I'll try informing the editor in question instead of immediately jumping to that.
