Can someone help me find a public-domain image?[edit]

Please pardon me if this isn't the best place to post this (and I welcome advice on that, so re-direct me if need be). I want to find a public domain image for the philosopher Gerald Heard, such as this image (for which I do not know the availability): https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-8T-EVGNi99o/Vc3iLsCMDwI/AAAAAAAAGms/1hIRFUzyzXk/s1600/HEARD16.jpg

Since Heard is deceased, you also have the option of uploading a low-resolution non-free image to Wikipedia (not Wikimedia Commons) in keeping with Wikimedia policy as long as you include a fair use rationale (for which there are templates). I have been doing this to add images of deceased librarians. I made a blog post a while ago about how to do this, loosely, you may find it helpful. Oh hey that is great! I think the issue is that you are using the embed text as if you were putting the image inside a box within an article. Inside of an infobox, you don't need the extra stuff. So if you look at the code, where you have

[[File:Henry_FitzGerald_Heard,_a.k.a._Gerald_Heard.png|right|Gerald Heard]]

you actually only need

Henry_FitzGerald_Heard,_a.k.a._Gerald_Heard.png

and then you can include his name next to where it says 'caption' (but you don't really need it since it's right above). And if you include a short description next to where it says 'alt' it will help blind users know what it's a picture of. Can be something simple like 'black and white head shot of a middle-aged white man with a beard in a checked shirt facing left.' Hope this is helpful. Tags when using gadget[edit]

Why sometimes there is a tag when using gadgets like AutoWikiBrowser, HotCat, Huggle, RedWarn (renamed to Ultraviolet), and Twinkle? For example, when you use Twinkle, in the edit history, there is a tag that someone use twinkle when editing that article. Vitaium (talk) 00:06, 24 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

It's about Special:Tags, e.g "Tag: Huggle" at [1]. @Vitaium: Wikipedia:Tags says: "Edit tags can be used to detect potentially harmful edits or software bugs." By the way, AutoWikiBrowser, Huggle and RedWarn aren't gadgets. PrimeHunter (talk) 03:28, 24 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

What actually happens when a paid editor does not disclose their paid editing?[edit]

I'm not saying that I'm paid to edit (I'm not), but what if a paid editor does not disclose that they are being paid for editing even after multiple requests? I.hate.spam.mail.here (talk | contributions) 04:54, 24 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

If you can prove they're being paid to edit, email an administrator you trust with the information for a block. I.hate.spam.mail.here if I have good reason to think that someone is an undeclared paid editor, I will block indefinitely, sometimes without warning if it's clear-cut eg we at Bloggs Widgets Ltd are the world's best widget makers. Do all Wikipedia administrators have conflict of interests with this page?[edit]

You may be right, I.hate.spam.mail.here. I am an administrator but I do not recall ever editing that particular page. But editors with a COI are allowed to revert things like vandalism, personal attacks and harassment, copyright violations, legal threats and the like. So, in order to establish that there is a problem here, you would need to establish that the specific edits in question are unjustified by policies and guidelines. Wikipedia:Conflict of interest says: "Any external relationship can trigger a conflict of interest." Being a Wikipedia administrator is not an external relationship in Wikipedia. I'm an administrator so I may be biased but I don't see an issue with administrators making edits about administrators, or Wikipedia editors in general making edits about Wikipedia. As a not-administrator, I believe they don't exactly have a conflict of interest. Admins are regular content creators (with added privileges) on WP just like someone might be a content creator on Blogger or WordPress (with added privileges, if they pay for it!!). And them editing the corresponding Wikipedia articles wouldn't be seen as a COI. However, an employee or business partner of the said companies editing their article would be a COI. Watchlist filters[edit]

Hi there. I edit DE since a over a decade now but I have an issue with the watch list filters in EN. Whenever I access the watchlist there is a filter "Current version" (I have the German UI, so I hope that's what it says in English). It prevents me from seeing all changes and shows only the last change on an article. I have created a default filter and saved it without "Current version" set but if I access the watchlist using a bookmark in my browser the watchlist will not use the default filter and I always end up with "Current version" activated. I see there's plenty of news now about the retrial of his killers

but no evidence that that Mr. Henderson himself was notable enough to warrant an article. However the killing may be considered notable, I can't judge. Maproom (talk) 18:49, 24 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

section edit links[edit]

@Gah4: User:Gah4/sandbox#table transclusion test transcludes User:Gah4/sandbox/table where you addded <includeonly>__NOEDITSECTION__</includeonly>in [2]. This removes section edit links when the page is trancluded. PrimeHunter (talk) 02:14, 25 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I thought it must be something strange like that. I moved some things over to sandbox5, and those recovered their links. With binary search, I might have eventually found it. It was some years ago that I wrote that one, or maybe copied it from somewhere, and I don't know why I would have wanted that. It is very strange. Editing the page doesn't show that line. I had to undo from the changes page. I completely forgot doing that, but I suspect when I did, I thought it would only apply for that section. What seems to happen is that the table gets its own section, in addition to the section including it. That is, not only for the section, but for the table itself. I suspect I was trying to prevent that one, not realizing it would cover the whole page. The tables go into another page, and I think are not now included, but I thought about doing it. I was also looking how other included tables work. I might work on these tables again, which are generate with AWK programs from IAEA tables. Gah4 (talk) 02:48, 25 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Gah4: I guess you tried to click the section edit link at User:Gah4/sandbox/table. The code was in the lead section (which has no rendered content) so you had to click the edit tab. If a transcluded page has section headings then they are included but the section edit link goes to the transcluded page with the section code. Maybe you wanted to avoid that. OK, I thought I went to User:Gah4/sandbox/table and clicked edit, but it does seem like, somehow, it was doing a section edit when I thought it wasn't. OK, next thing. Why is it that you can't make a link to User:Gah4/sandbox. It seems you can make a link to subpages, or other numbered sandbox, but not that one. Gah4 (talk) 07:32, 25 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
