June 23[edit]

— Preceding unsigned comment added by Tcivera (talkcontribs) 11:38, 23 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Tcivera: Hi there! Creating a new article is one of the hardest things to do on Wikipedia, especially when you have a conflict of interest (COI). To learn how to edit, you could view Help:Introduction and try The Wikipedia Adventure. I suggest spending a significant amount of time editing existing articles to hone your skills. When you're ready to create an article, you would gather independent reliable sources (not press releases or interviews or anything that the company has written) that have provided significant coverage of your company, and determine whether it meets Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, called "notability". If so, you would declare your COI on your user page. Then follow the instructions at Help:Your first article, and be prepared for a process that may include months of waiting, rejections, and rewrites, before an article is created. Note that every article on the English Wikipedia must be written in English. If you are successful, then you could never edit the article directly due to your COI, but could submit edit requests on the article talk page. Hope this helps. Business profile in wikipedia[edit]

I need help to live my business in Wikipedia. I don't know how to start and what to do now. I registered the account when I started searching my company name I couldn't find and I want to create a business profile. Can I get the exact solution? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Azamghani1 (talkcontribs) 11:39, 23 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

An 'exact solution' would start from the understanding the purpose of Wikipedia. It is an encyclopaedia, not a platform for 'business profiles'. You could start by reading Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations, and Wikipedia:Conflict of interest/ AndyTheGrump (talk) 11:43, 23 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Azamghani. Unfortunately, Wikipedia is not the place for doing such a thing as explained here. Wikipedia articles can be written about companies that satisfy Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies), but these aren't business profiles in any way and they are not controlled by the companies they're written about. So, if you're looking for a way to promote business, you'd be better off trying social media, a blog, a personal website or one of the other alternatives listed here. -- Marchjuly (talk) 11:47, 23 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
And keep in mind that if there ever is a Wikipedia article on your business, it won't be your business's profile, anybody may edit it, you won't have control over it, and you might or might not like what it says. Uporządnicki (talk) 11:51, 23 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

'm new and I don't understand how to report something bad[edit]

Hi there I don't really understand truly how to get a hold of somebody that can come and look at awful things somebody wrote its clearly an active vandalism on a page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tymbathelion (talkcontribs) 15:24, 23 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Tymbathelion. You will need to tell us which article you are talking about. Shantavira|feed me 15:52, 23 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
If the edit hasn't already been reverted, you can revert it and leave a user warning on the talk page of the user. interstatefive  16:51, 23 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
You already found a place to get hold of somebody but you have to say where the problem is. Tell us both the page and which things on the page you refer to.PrimeHunter (talk) 17:54, 23 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

A page's references are broken[edit]

List of musical works in unusual time signatures The sections "Notes and References" and "Bibliography" are not working with the templates. What happened and can someone fix it? Wilh3lmTalk 16:52, 23 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Wilhelm von Hindenburger: The page is in Category:Pages where post-expand include size is exceeded. There are 666 {{music}}. They each use around 2.5 kB of the 2048 kB limit. Other templates push it over the edge. I haven't looked for suitable ways to reduce it. PrimeHunter (talk) 17:46, 23 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
It's discussed at Wikipedia:Village pump (technical)#Broken reflist at List of musical works in unusual time signatures. PrimeHunter (talk) 17:57, 23 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Example[edit]

When i'm logged out on Wikipedia i see [ edit ] on pages next to where i put 'Example' at the top, but when I'm logged in I see [ edit source ], can I make it only show [ edit ] here when i'm logged in? --Aaron106 (talk) 20:48, 23 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Aaron106: I'm not sure, but I think [edit source] appears when you are using the source editor and [edit] appears when you are using the visual editor. Try switching an editor and looking at the links again. weeklyd3 (message me | my contributions) 21:33, 23 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Aaron106: You'd have to go to Preferences → Editing → uncheck Disable the visual editor while it is in beta, and make sure the dropdown menu underneath it is set to Always give me the visual editor if possible. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 22:43, 23 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Policy question[edit]

There is an editor changing "She is the adopted daughter of the late former Philippine president, Ferdinand Marcos and former first lady Imelda Marcos." to "She is the adopted daughter of the late former Philippine president, dictator, and kleptocrat Ferdinand Marcos and former first lady and graft convicted Imelda Marcos." in Aimee Marcos, and making similar changes in other articles, and slow-edit warring over it, and labeling removal of their changes as vandalism (which it is of course not).

There has been no discussion anywhere that I have seen. I'm not sure what warnings to give (except to not label content disputes as vandalism). But do we have a policy on this? Things like WP:NPOV are written about a topic article and don't really seem to apply well to this scenario. Can anyone help? MB 21:30, 23 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@MB: Despite being true, this is indeed POV pushing. WP:BALANCE, WP:IMPARTIAL and Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Words to watch all may also provide some guidance. It's enough to link to the article without including a flurry of descriptive terms for additional context. I'd warn the editor on their talk page, and undo their edits. If they persist, I think this warrants asking for help at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents. TimTempleton (talk) (cont) 23:46, 23 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for those links. This isn't an ANI matter quite yet because they have not been warned. I am trying to craft a good/appropriate warning. I used Disruptive Editing with a custom explanation. MB 00:33, 24 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
WP:OFFTOPIC and WP:COATRACK are also relevant. PrimeHunter (talk) 00:47, 24 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Any reader who wants to learn about the proven corruption of various members of the Marcos family can learn a lot about it here on Wikipedia. It is not necessary to jam in down our reader's throats. Cullen328 (talk) 01:33, 24 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
After looking into this further, I did take this to ANI because there are multiple editors involved and it spans at least six articles. MB 01:52, 24 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
