Concensus?[edit]

Some days ago, I made a RFC and pool to change a rule. The pool has shown that 10 people want to change it while 6 want to keep the status quo. Has a concensus been got here? How many people agreeing on would we need to have if the concensus hasn't? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dr Salvus (talkcontribs) 00:09, 18 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Dr Salvus. Consensus is not determined by a vote count. Five supports grounded in policies and guidelines are far more persuasive than twenty opposes based on emotions and ignorance of policies and guidelines. Cullen328 (talk) 07:06, 18 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
When discussion has died down, as in no comments for 3-4 days, ask for closure at WP:RFCL. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 09:26, 18 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Does he meet the requirements of WP:LISTPEOPLE? Shantavira|feed me 10:03, 18 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
One might argue that the fact of his having been invited (or permitted) to attend is prima facie evidence of his notability. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 90.193.131.160 (talk) 12:30, 18 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Are there reliable sources supporting this claim of notability? I don't think being invited is sufficient on its own. I would expect any person considered notable enough to be in the list to have a Wikipedia article about them, which Amwed Jethu appears not to have. Emma Lewis has an invitation but no Wikipedia article about her, so she should not be in this list either, regardless her good work. Bazza (talk) 12:41, 18 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Why do we have this list in the first place? Drmies (talk) 15:07, 18 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
God knows. It's easy enough to find a list online, such as the much more informative BBC listing. Shantavira|feed me 18:59, 18 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Checking my edit count[edit]

I remember there being a website that showed amount of edits I have with charts showing which days I am most active in. Can anyone tell me a link to that site? Thanks. Roostery123 (talk) 10:39, 18 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

xtools.wmflabs.org Madeline (part of me) 10:41, 18 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Roostery123: Specifically, in your case, xtools.wmflabs.org/ec/en.wikipedia.org/Roostery123. Deor (talk) 14:36, 18 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Possibly easier to reach from your own contributions page, where it is one of the links at the bottom called "Edit count". Mike Turnbull (talk) 14:41, 18 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

"peanut gallery"[edit]

i've seen the phrase "peanut gallery" used occasionally on wiki. what is its meaning? lettherebedarklight, 晚安, おやすみ, ping me when replying 13:33, 18 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

We do have a "peanut gallery" article. And for a more wiki-centric take, also WP:PEANUTGALLERY. DMacks (talk) 13:38, 18 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
We also have Peanut#Gallery. —Wasell(T) 🌻🇺🇦 17:50, 18 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
If we're trying to be really complete, need to include File:Peanuts gang.png also:) DMacks (talk) 03:03, 19 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

How are songs re-directed to their albums via wikilinks?[edit]

I'm working on music articles, and in some cases, I can use wikilinks for song titles that re-direct to their original albums on their own. What enables this? And if a song doesn't redirect on its own, is it okay to set up a wikilink that "pipes" to the album (even if the link doesn't redirect to the specific section where the song is discussed)? Thanks. Allreet (talk) 13:35, 18 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Allreet. Sounds like you are talking about a WP:REDIRECT. Someone creates the pointer manually, just like any other edit, but uses the special syntax to make it a redirect instead of an actual article. DMacks (talk) 13:42, 18 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@dmacks: Thanks...the help page explains it all. Allreet (talk) 17:42, 19 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Request to remove a blank Wikipedia page[edit]

Good morning, I wanted to know what the process was for removing a blank Wikipedia page. There is a blank Wikipedia page of my family name that is tagged to another Wikipedia page. I want to remove the page of my last name. Kindly provide instructions. Thank you. Marlow Kurtz (talk) 15:02, 18 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Marlow Kurtz, I assume you mean what we call a "redirect", but if you don't tell us what page you're talking about then there's much for us to look at. We have Kurtz, of course. But here's the thing: the answer is likely to be "no", since it's not just your last name, and it fulfills a function. Thank you. Drmies (talk) 15:06, 18 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
    Hello,
Thank you for your reply; the webpage address is here: https://en.wikipedia.org/?title=Bidnur&redirect=no
It does appear to be a redirect. There is no information on the page. Marlow Kurtz is my screen name. Marlow Kurtz (talk) 16:10, 18 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, Marlow Kurtz. Bidnur is a valid redirect to Nagara, Karnataka, an Indian village that used to be called Bidnur. I see no problem with the redirect. Cullen328 (talk) 16:20, 18 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism help request from 68.199.152.155[edit]

I have noticed some vandalism at Outskirts Press. Namely, replacement of entire article on April 2022 with a promotional press release version. Would an editor please assist me with fixing it? Thank you, 68.199.152.155 (talk) 15:21, 18 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I've restored the version of the article before the spammy content was added. Thanks for the heads up. Isabelle 🏳‍🌈 15:23, 18 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

How to Edit and Update a Wikipedia Page of a Living Person (Celebrity)[edit]

Hi, I would like to ask how I can prevent others from changing the entry I did for a celebrity (John Arcilla: John Arcilla). He has authorized me to update and correct the entries for his Wikipedia but some of the edits and updates I did have been deleted and reverted back to the older version, which is incorrect. How do I put a citation if the reference is from the actor himself? Please advise. Thank you. Casa Heneral (talk) 19:55, 18 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Casa Heneral Wikipedia has articles, not pages. This is a subtle but important distinction. Please first review conflict of interest. If he is compensating you in any manner for your advocacy, the Terms of Use require you to make a formal paid editing disclosure. You are welcome to suggest changes on the article talk page (Talk:John Arcilla) in the form of an edit request(click for instructions). We cannot accept personal recollection, all information must be found in a published reliable source. 331dot (talk) 20:01, 18 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much for the response. It's helpful. Casa Heneral (talk) 20:20, 18 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Casa Heneral: Please read WP:OWN. Neither the subject of an article nor anyone else controls the contents of an article. The subject and any representatives have less rights to edit the article than do uninvolved editors. The article does not exist to benefit the subject. Wikipedia article is not publish[edit]

Some days ago we added new article in Wikipedia, but not published yet. We see all of text in the sandbox and searching by name of article, but shows is red (i.e. article is not publish). NurullaAliyev (talk) 20:18, 18 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@NurullaAliyev: Is this about Draft:Nurulla_Aliyev? If so, read the note on your talk page User_talk:NurullaAliyev about it. You might also need to read WP:AUTO for advice. RudolfRed (talk) 20:21, 18 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Draft:Nurulla Aliyev is nowhere near the stage where it would be accepted into mainspace as an article, as it has a common range of problems. Lack of sourcing and possible conflict of interest are the most obvious ones. See Your first article for more information.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 20:39, 18 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Donald Winnicott[edit]

Winnicott was my psychoanalytic mentor and helped me to save my first psychotic patient. It was very fortunate that he did because psychiatry far prefers to quieten patients with lobotomizing drugs to helping them with their emotional traumata. In order to make a living, after closed our hospital units, I was able to practice as a GP for the last 20 years of my career. We discovered that psychotic patients became the backbone of my practice. They were so desperate to escape psychiatry and the torture of psychosis that they became the most interesting and rewarding of my career. Id be happy to send you articles I’ve written about this, articles that psychiatry won’t publish or listen to, probably because they have become a branch of the drug industry that make fortunes keeping people on drugs. Echilde (talk) 22:34, 18 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Echilde: Sorry, but Wikipedia is not a place to publish original research: see WP:OR and WP:NOT. I suggest you set up a blog site to start. -Arch dude (talk) 22:47, 18 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Using a non-free image in more than one article[edit]

Currently this non-free image, which I uploaded a couple of weeks ago, is being used in The Papers of Benjamin Franklin article. I would like to also use this image in the Bibliography of Benjamin Franklin article, but the non-free rational template will only allow for one article to be listed. How does one go about adding this non-free image to a second article in an appropriate fashion? -- Gwillhickers (talk) 23:29, 18 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Gwillhickers. Although it's possible to use a non-free image in more than one way or in more than one article as long as each use of the image satisfies WP:NFCCP, the first use of a non-free image is already considered to be quite exceptional to WP:COPY#Guidelines for images and other media; therefore, each additional use tends to be much more harder to justify because cause it tends to be considered one more step up the exceptional stairway (if that makes sense). The way it is done is by adding a separate specific non-free use rationale to the file's page for each of the file's uses.
In the case of cover art (e.g. book covers, album covers, DVD covers), the first use is generally OK when it's for primary identification purposes in the main infobox or at the top of of a stand-alone article about the book, album, DVD, etc. the cover represents, but additional uses become much harder to verify as explained in WP:NFC#cite_note-3. I don't see any way to justify adding the file to the "Bibliography" article per WP:FREER, WP:NFLISTS or WP:NFC#CS that would not be considered WP:DECORATIVE absent adding any sourced critical commentary about the cover art itself directly added to that article. Even if such content were to be found, it would make much more sense contextually to add it to the "Papers" article and would be unnecessarily redundant and out of place in the "Bibliography" article. Non-free book cover art is pretty much never allowed to illustrate individual entries or sections of "Bibliography" type articles and in this case the WP:HATNOTE to main article about the Papers in Bibliography of Benjamin Franklin#The Papers of Benjamin Franklin seems more than sufficient as an alternative to using a non-free image per FREER. So, even if you were to add a rationale for the use to the file's page, it would be very unlikely to survive a challenge by establishing a consensus in favor of such use per WP:JUSTONE.
Finally, I think the first two images in the "Papers" article should be switched since the "Papers" are the primary subject of the article and its cover art should be at the top of the article. You could even use the template {{Infobox book}} to help do that if you want. -- Marchjuly (talk) 23:49, 18 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Marchjuly: — Thanks for your prompt and in depth reply. As there is obviously many things to consider here it would seem best that I just be content with the image's use in the one article. As for switching images, I feel the portrait of Franklin is more appropriate as the lede image, with its definitive caption, since he is the actual author of the letters and other writings, while there is a dedicated section for the publication, where Franklin's portrait would not be as appropriate, imo. In any event, I had little idea of what I might have gotten myself into here, as I've only used non-free images a few times before, one image per article Once again, many thanks for your insights. -- Gwillhickers (talk) 00:10, 19 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
