Unacceptable interlanguage links.

[edit]

Let's say, for example, that the Armenian (Picked at random) Wikipedia has an article on Green Shoes. This article has no useful information, the google translate of it is basically "Green Shoes are cool" I know each Wikipedia has its own rules on acceptable articles, so the rules on English language Wikipedia don't apply. The article on Harry Truman has referenced that he wore Green Shoes on Sundays to Church. Is there any rule regarding whether or not there should be a link (either ill template or simply an interlanguage link) based on the quality of the article being linked to on the other wikipedia?Naraht (talk) 13:19, 13 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Naraht I'm a fan of TEMPLATE:ILL (and an enemy of of links to imdb made to look like wikilinks), and I don't think it reasonable to add them if there's nothing interesting at the other and. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 14:13, 13 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
There is general guidance at Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Linking, which asks "How likely is it that the reader will also want to read that other article?" If an article has no useful information, then it is unlikely that a reader will want to read it. Do you have a particular example in mind? TSventon (talk) 14:17, 13 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
TSventonOne of the queens on one of the Foreign versions of RuPaul's Drag Race. The en version (correctly) has a redirect back to the season page, I'm just wondering whether to include an ill to an article on the queen on a non-english wikipedia that is at best a stub. (And yes, I know everything will get cleaned up automatically if an article for this queen is created on the english wikipedia.Naraht (talk) 14:25, 13 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Naraht personally, I would include the link as it has some useful information. If someone wants to write an en wiki article, the pt article will give them some information and references. TSventon (talk) 14:47, 13 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanx for looking over my recent edits, but it wasn't Fontana I was asking about, I know that one is more than good enough. :)Naraht (talk) 14:53, 13 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Why isn't my ParserFunction working?

[edit]

On the template Template:Canadian election result/top I added the section starting at "Put the ‘navbar’ (V•T•E) in table title area for federal election results". I think Template:1974 Canadian federal election/Kamloops—Cariboo should now have a navbar pointing to itself, but it isn't there. It still works for the provincial elections, like at Template:2007 Manitoba general election/Elmwood. —Arctic Gnome (talkcontribs) 16:23, 13 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Arctic.gnome: I think the last }} before Table ‘Title’ should be moved to before Put the ‘navbar’ (V•T•E) in table title area for federal election results. In either position it closes the same opening {{. PrimeHunter (talk) 17:30, 13 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't notice that the previous #ifexists enclosed so much of the remaining template. That helped me fix it, thanks! —Arctic Gnome (talkcontribs) 19:21, 13 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Why Editing option is not visible for a Page on Wikipedia?

[edit]

Dear fellows, on wiki pages there is an "edit" (displayed by a "Lock" icon) feature. However, it is observed that it is not present in one of the pages.

The link of the wiki page is as follows: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Imran_Khan

Questions: 1) Why (Reason) there is no edit feature on the above mentioned page? 2) How to edit such a page that has no edit option? Yabanci2023 (talk) 17:19, 13 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Yabanci2023: Imran Khan is semi-protected. You can click the "View source" tab to submit an edit request. PrimeHunter (talk) 17:41, 13 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Understood, thank you for the prompt response. Yabanci2023 (talk) 17:54, 13 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Text on certain page previews are missing

[edit]

some page previews are missing some text, could you please find out what's wrong and fix this and restore them? 66.24.180.219 (talk) 17:39, 13 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

We have six million articles. Please always post an example when you report an issue. Are you referring to the popup when you hover over a link to the unidentified pages? PrimeHunter (talk) 17:48, 13 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
the page preview text for the University of Texas at Austin is missing 66.24.180.219 (talk) 17:53, 13 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
University of Texas at Austin uses {{Coord}} in the lead outside the infobox. This currently causes the preview to be missing. See Wikipedia:Village pump (technical)/Archive 206#Page previews (popups) broken and phab:T338204. It's expected to be fixed without having to edit affected pages but I don't know when. Deleting a user page

[edit]

How to I delete a user page using WP:MFD? 99.209.40.250 (talk) 18:36, 13 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion criteria WP:U1, WP:U2, and WP:U5 are usually sufficient. It is not common practice to touch other editors' user pages, why do you want to delete a user page? Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 19:41, 13 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

My profile

[edit]

How do I correct errors on my Wikipedia profile? 2806:10A6:F:B5B9:F991:2620:E6C5:61A6 (talk) 22:46, 13 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

If by your "Wikipedia profile", you mean a Wikipedia article about you, then this article will have a link to "Talk". Click this, and on this "Talk" page point out each mistake and the correction that should be made to it. -- Hoary (talk) 22:49, 13 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You should follow the formal Edit request process, which greatly improves the likelihood that an editor will respond. Cullen328 (talk) 00:35, 14 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
And something else. Provide an independent, reliable source for everything you say. Everything that's already in the article ought to be independently, reliably referenced. But unfortunately it's possible that quite a lot won't be. (Of course you can object to the inclusion of assertions about you that are not referenced. If the article says you went to the Moon but fails to provide evidence for this remarkable claim, you can simply say that it's untrue; you don't need evidence for a claim that no you haven't been to the Moon.) -- Hoary (talk) 06:21, 14 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
IP editor: there are some things you may do directly on the article without using the edit request mechanism. These are explained at WP:ASFAQ. If in doubt, use the Talk Page. Mike Turnbull (talk) 10:34, 14 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
