how to wikilink a category? The Tips of Apmh 02:56, 29 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The Tips of Apmh, precise (not generic) thread titles are always appreciated. As for your question, as a ferinstance: "Thank you for offering to copyedit and otherwise improve every article on a banana cultivar." -- Hoary (talk) 06:12, 29 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
In case it's not obvious, Tips, what Hoary has done is to start the wikilink with a colon (":"). This is a general feature - you can use it for files (eg :File:Tina Turner 50th Anniversary Tour.jpg giving File:Tina Turner 50th Anniversary Tour.jpg, and interlanguage links (:de:Wikipedia:Fragen zur Wikipedia displays as de:Wikipedia:Fragen zur Wikipedia). In fact it doesn't even matter if you use it when it is not needed, eg :Tina Turner is exactly the same as Tina Turner. ColinFine (talk) 08:21, 29 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
:Tina Turner and Tina Turner produce the same result but the former may confuse some editors and link-search methods so use the latter for links to articles. PrimeHunter (talk) 13:44, 29 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I have added a file (Portrait) and it is way too big/large - please fix if you are able. The caption underneath should read: Queen Caroline. Thanks and sorry! 115.70.23.77 (talk) 03:53, 29 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I have fixed the issue. When adding a file, you can press the image icon at the top and fill in the boxes, instead of having to do it manually :) The Tips of Apmh 04:34, 29 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I don't understand: Why have a footnote to this article tell the reader ".Philip Medows m. Frances Pierrepont / .CHARLES MEDOWS PIERREPONT, 1st Earl MANVERS (1737–1816) / .NB: This document also shows Kate Middleton's descent from Daniel Meadows/Medows (died 1651/59)"? How does this assist anyone's understanding of the ostensible subject of the article? -- Hoary (talk) 08:44, 29 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hoary, presumably it helps the reader understand that Philip Meadowes has a legacy in the modern world as an ancestor of Kate Middleton. TSventon (talk) 11:04, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Suggestion/Instructions Required to get Speedy Approval[edit]

Dear Sir, Please help me regarding Speedy Approval of my article named as Draft: Abad Mehmood Ali (Advocate) Hafiz AALC (talk) 09:38, 29 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Abad Mehmood Ali (Advocate) was deleted on 27 April 2023, because it failed to show that the person was notable and was also considered to be promotional. Unless these problems are solved, the draft will not become an article.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 09:44, 29 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Also there is no such thing here as speedy approval. Shantavira|feed me 13:27, 29 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Article requirements to post on wikipedia?[edit]

Hello, I want to post an article on wikipedia and I don't want that my article would be removed in future. That's why, I am looking for guidelines that can help me to write an article for wikipedia. 2407:AA80:126:A493:BCA2:7AFF:3126:2E8 (talk) 11:15, 29 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Then you would be looking for WP:YFA. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 11:22, 29 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The vital point is that all topics written about must be notable as defined here and please don't try to write an autobiography for the reasons given at that link. Mike Turnbull (talk) 11:24, 29 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The corresponding page within the Wikipedia in Italian language is much richer, but the two pages have almost the same number of references (4 en.wiki, 5 it.wiki). In my opinion, there is no basis for inserting the "Expand Italian" notice. I ask for an opinion, thanks. JackkBrown (talk) 14:40, 29 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

If you wish to suggest improvements or changes to any article, the place to do so is the Talk page of that article (and within the appropriate language Wikipedia). Shantavira|feed me 14:54, 29 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

[reply] button blocked by stalled “new section”[edit]

On one discussion page (only) all of the [reply] links are greyed out, and at the bottom there is a “new section” field that only has a “Subject” field and the word “Loading. . . ” under it.

It only affects one of my devices. Reloading the page doesn’t clear this. Logging out and back in doesn’t clear it. Very frustrating because loading the page always jumps to the bottom so section links are broken.  —Michael Z. 17:34, 29 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Got it. Clearing cookies and cache for wikipedia.org fixed it. I thought of this when I realized it was even happening on that page when I was logged out.  —Michael Z. 17:42, 29 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

intimidating user[edit]

Hello,

I am trying to contribute. I opened an entry related to a specific medical condition that I have nearly two years ago. I tend to update it when I'm hospitalised. Another user has been flagging me and the comments are intimidating. I tried to push back, but they threatened me and said that I will face consequences for questing what feels like strong motives (and I found on their YouTube page a stated personal opinion against the story of entry I'm trying to create). I stated this and they flagged me for an insult/personal attack. It wasn't, it was a statement of fact while they are accusing me of all sorts of things, destroying my entry, flagging me. I don't want to be bullied on Wikipedia for trying to help others - especially when I am in hospital getting medical care after a removed organ! How do I deal with such trolling on Wikipedia and not get hurt more? WikiEd97531 (talk) 18:11, 29 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@WikiEd97531: You should know that Julius Senegal is right most of the time. There are WP:RULES which you ignore. He does not have an axe to grind against you, but he has an axe to grind against original research and against WP:PRIMARY medical studies. He is right about those. tgeorgescu (talk) 18:21, 29 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
His language is atrocious! He assumed lots of things and made horrible accusations, then, it turns out he has the publicly stated bias. He is intimidating a user who is trying to contribute. I am not a Wiki pro. I have been trying to fix the entry. I don't want or need the snarky remarks. It helps NOBODY and keeps other people who would contribute from contributing. The page is in English for UK and US users.. I don't even thing he is in these countries or language. I believe the entry has been rectified now? WikiEd97531 (talk) 18:40, 29 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The article is in English for anyone in the world, not just the UK or the US- anyone that can communicate effectively in English. 331dot (talk) 18:46, 29 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
WikiEd97531, this is a worldwide project and people from every country are free to contribute, as long as they comply with our policies and guidelines. Among those is Wikipedia:Identifying reliable sources (medicine). Have you read it? Do you understand it? Are you complying with it? Cullen328 (talk) 18:53, 29 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
publicly stated bias—see WP:GOODBIAS. tgeorgescu (talk) 18:56, 29 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
NO need to excessively troll me. I am trying to contribute and fix things without a full on assault. I was hit with a lot of allegations and accusations. I was asked to explain myself, and I did. I tried to defend myself and got attacked more. I asked for info and help in each post as a new user. I said 'put the citation' and I will fix it. No need to beat the horse here... this is supposed to be volunteer help. I did not 'insult' the other user. I simply stated something that was online (publicly available) due to the accusations and strength of wording being put onto me. I get enough flak from doctors at hospital when I try to learn info and I had to learn it all myself. Which is why I made the entry. WikiEd97531 (talk) 19:14, 29 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Asking whether you are aware of and understand a relevant guideline is the exact opposite of trolling. You are the one who came into this discussion hot and accusatory. Cullen328 (talk) 20:38, 29 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I don't wish to be rude to you, but you have to learn how we do things around here. tgeorgescu (talk) 19:16, 29 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I would also gently suggest that if your goal is merely to provide information about this medical condition, a website that you own and control, or social media, would be better avenues to do that. Editing about medical conditions on Wikipedia, is as you have found, very challenging with strict sourcing requirements- as in most jurisdictions it is illegal for Wikipedia to provide medical advice. 331dot (talk) 19:22, 29 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
...by which I only mean that we must be very careful in what is written, and how it is sourced. 331dot (talk) 19:24, 29 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@WikiEd97531 I saw that the article you're referring to is in Japanese and Korean. This might just be me, but maybe try to get sources from there and see if they fit the standards. That could go a long way. Unless, of course, the article is fully translated from both languages. Losipov (talk) 19:27, 29 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
There is no assault in pointing out that we have some rules especially for topics in medicine. On the discussion page I clearly stated what is wrong and that in a polite way.
I don't speculate about the motives why WikiEd97531 is trying to highlight this product, maybe he has some good experiences with it. However, that doesn't matter and this is a delicate topic with the risk of drifting towards a commercial advertisement. If this product is good, we will have robust sources clearly confirming this. Otherwise there is no established knowledge so we cannot claim everything. --Julius Senegal (talk) 18:21, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

updating information[edit]

The Wiki page on John Ogden (photographer) is ten years old and requires updating. Do I need to find the Source editor and, if so, how? SonOfCyclops (talk) 22:37, 29 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

hi @SonOfCyclops and welcome to Wikipedia! you do not, you can edit it now! happy editing! 💜  melecie  talk - 22:57, 29 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
But it is my page and I don't think it's acceptable for the subject to make the edits. 61.68.75.27 (talk) 23:09, 29 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
If the article is about you, then yes you should be cautious about editing it and read WP:AUTO. If you want to suggest changes to the article, you can start a discussion on the article's talk page and mark it with Edit request RudolfRed (talk) 23:16, 29 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. I have started the discussion. As the current page is about 10 years old it is misleading tot he extent that my career focus has changed considerably. SonOfCyclops (talk) 01:45, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
