Referencing errors on Nikita Kucherov[edit]

Reference help requested.

Thanks, 2601:408:C181:8B80:24E9:7A4:BD78:2D6A (talk) 00:04, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

How do I cite things with the number at the upper end of a sentence? I just made an account so I can add some stuff to pages some forgot to write about.

Hi there! See the video at WP:EASYREFBEGIN. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 00:25, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Ref numbers 9, 38 and 41 are all the same - I cannot do the thing whereby they area all "amalgamated" into the one ref (leave in quote please), can you help/fix please? Thanks 115.70.23.77 (talk) 01:09, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I think I fixed it, but double check that I didn't mess anything up. I'm not clear on the purpose of the citations in the image caption, but I left them in. Larry Hockett (Talk) 01:30, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Missing personality[edit]

Please explain why Vinnie Tortorich has been removed from your site.He is a very real person with a great deal of knowledge who has served celebrities and regular folks on healthy weightloss journeys, made movies, runs a podcast, written books and more. What is Wikipedia afraid of? Or maybe I should ask Why are you afraid of truth? Rmkpl3 (talk) 01:28, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Seems like Vinnie Tortorich was deleted based on self-promotional purposes, according to the deletion log. LilianaUwU (talk / contribs) 01:34, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
To expand on Liliana's answer: Wikipedia is not interested in "personalities" or "celebrities". It is interested in subjects which meet its own criteria for notability, which is basically about whether there has been enough independent material published about the subject. Some articles are indeed about "personalities", but being popular or prominent or wealthy does not of itself guarantee that there can be an article. Furthermore, every article should be a neutral summary of what those independent sources say. Wikipedia is not interested in what the subject wants to say about themselves, or what their associates say about them. ColinFine (talk) 10:50, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Reference numbers 38 and 40 are also the same source - or can you remove reference number 38 from the picture of Lady Bullock perhaps if you think it's not necessary? - thanks so much. 115.70.23.77 (talk) 01:40, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Combined references per WP:NAMEDREFS. GoingBatty (talk) 02:07, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for including that wikilink. I was going to link to it for the user's future reference, but I couldn't find the page. I was looking right past it. Larry Hockett (Talk) 03:26, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Vegas Golden Knights..[edit]

When you summarized their seasons you forgot their inaugural season where they lost in the Stanley Cup Final. 76.68.47.254 (talk) 03:14, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi IP 76.68.47.254. If you feel that you can improve the article Vegas Golden Knights and do so in a way that is in accordance with relevant relevant Wikipedia policies and guidelines, then you can WP:BOLDly do so yourself. Don't worry about making mistakes because anything you do can either be undone or fixed by someone else. If you're not willing to boldly edit the article yourself, you can start a discussion about the changes you think should be made at Talk:Vegas Golden Knights. -- Marchjuly (talk) 05:53, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Just saying, Marchjuly, that article is semi-protected... because hockey fans. LilianaUwU (talk / contribs) 06:54, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Editing Director[edit]

Hi I am from the marketing team at The Garvan Institute of Medical Research: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Garvan_Institute_of_Medical_Research

I was just wondering if the the directors could please be updated. The Institute has recently appointed a new director and therefore the page should say

Professor Chris Goodnow (1 June 2018 - 22 July 2022) Professor Benjamin Kile (27 April - incumbent) 58.169.210.167 (talk) 06:45, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! Update done. Checks out per [1] and I'll take your word on the dates. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 07:10, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi there! In the future, you can post requests to update the article on its talk page: Talk:Garvan Institute of Medical Research with the {{edit request}} template, or use the Wikipedia:Edit Request Wizard if you find that easier. Thanks for your efforts to keep Wikipedia updated! GoingBatty (talk) 12:46, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Blackbody energy density[edit]

In blackbody radiation, how do you go from measuring radiation power per unit area to energy density per unit volume? I am looking for this formula and one of the first publications that uses it, by Wilhelm Wien for example. Because in the laws of Kirchhoff and Stephan-Boltzmann it is always a question of radiation power. Malypaet (talk) 07:30, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I see you found Wikipedia:Reference_desk/Science#Blackbody_energy_density, that is the place for this type of question. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 07:42, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Two questions[edit]

I have two questions concerning events:

1. Would a 1-year anniversary article from a local news source be enough to establish WP:LASTING coverage for an event that has been covered in national news sources? I understand that anniversary articles on the 10th anniversary of an event would count, but I'm not sure what the cutoff is. An example: [2]

2. I have a bit of an issue with a news article that has been posted on a blog. The blog's creator was a former journalist, and I have no reason not to believe that he didn't write the article for a reliable news source. However, I can only find the article on his blog. Is the source reliable? Here is the blog post for reference. [3]

Thanks for your help. Lettlerhellocontribs 18:03, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Why on the Clint Eastwood page are there several jobs in the professions within the infobox (actor, director, film producer and composer), while in the initial text there are "only" two (actor and director)? On the other hand, on the Leonardo Pieraccioni page and Daniele Luchetti pages, the jobs are the same both in the infobox and in the initial text; finally, on thie page Vincenzo Salemme there is only one job in the infobox, while there are four in the initial text. What rule should I follow? It's all a mess. JackkBrown (talk) 19:51, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

There are no rigid 'rules' specifying such details: our 6 million-plus articles were created, and have been edited, over a couple of decades by tens to hundreds of thousands of different people, who each decided to write and amend in a particular and often different way within our broad guidelines, which I'm sure by now you are somewhat familiar with.
The 'initial text' or 'Lede' first paragraph of any article is only supposed to summarise the most important points of the rest of the article (including the infobox). In the case of Clint Eastwood, his main activities have been as an actor and director – that he has also produced some movies and has composed music for some movies are less prominent facets of his career which (I presume) appear as details somewhere in the body of the article. (I haven't stopped to read it, but I was certainly aware of them.)
Similarly, creators and subsequent editors have all made their own individual judgement calls on what to include in the infoboxes. So long as they are not actively innacurate, there is no problem with this.
There is no way that over 6 million articles in a huge crowdsourced project are going to conform absolutely to every single detail of a (nonexistent) single rigid template (in the general sense), and there is no way that any single editor can make a significant impact on this: frankly, there are more productive uses of anyone's time. By all means correct actual errors, but you seem to be getting sucked in to a self-imposed mission that is both impossible and pointless. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 90.199.210.77 (talk) 21:37, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Dear IP address, I agree with everything you wrote! Part of today's day in this encyclopaedia (about 1 hour) I spent worrying about things that were totally unnecessary (the changes were useful anyway, but there's no point in carrying on like this); fortunately you warned me, otherwise 1 hour could have become as much as 15 hours (almost wasted). JackkBrown (talk) 21:51, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@JackkBrown: Hi there! Template:Infobox person#Parameters states that the |occupation= parameter should have "Occupation(s) as given in the lead." MOS:LEADBIO has guidance on what belongs in the lead. However (and I've said this several times), the best place to discuss this is on each article's talk page. The articles do not have to be exactly consistent with each other. GoingBatty (talk) 21:18, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@GoingBatty: I prefer to ask here, I usually receive very interesting answers that also allow me to improve my work within this encyclopaedia; moreover, speaking from experience, it's very difficult to receive answers by asking on a discussion page linked to a specific page. Wikipedia is not a platform to promote your business, and using it to do so in the manner you have been is contrary to our terms of use. AndyTheGrump (talk) 20:31, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
There are two messages on your talk page - User talk:Shaikh afnan - which explain why your links were removed. Please do not add them again. 199.208.172.35 (talk) 20:34, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Notice glitch[edit]

Jauerback suggested I come here. I'm asking if anyone's aware of a notice glitch that appears whenever someone edits articles, as in there's always one notice added. It's been appearing on both platforms I use Wikipedia with so I speculate it has something to do with more general coding (I could associated this with the MediaWiki engine but I'm uncertain).Carlinal (talk) 20:42, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Carlinal, is it this? 199.208.172.35 (talk) 20:45, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that's exactly it! Thank you, I'll keep track of this thread until the error's resolved. Carlinal (talk) 20:48, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
