Photo[edit]

How can I add a photo to my page? Steel Chambers (talk) 04:40, 5 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Steel Chambers: If you want to add a photo, you'd have to make sure it complies with the image use policy. I will note that as of writing this comment your userpage is blatantly promotional, which is not what Wikipedia is for. Furthermore, it will not be indexed by search engines given the namespace it's in. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 05:34, 5 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
[Edit Conflict] If by "your page" you mean your User page, you have improperly used this for a mock article, which is not allowed. Your user page is intended for you to say something about yourself as a Wikipedia editor: you cannot use it sneak an autobiography into Wikipedia by the back door. I expect it will shortly be deleted, although I will leave that to a more procedurally oriented editor: If you don't already have this text on a personal device, you might want to copy it there so as not to lose it.
Incidentally, what you have written could not qualify as an actual WP:Article because nothing in it is cited to independent (of the subject, i.e. you), published (in books, magazines etc.) Reliable sources. You seem to be under a misapprehension about what Wikipedia's purpose is: please read WP:NOT. Sorry. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 90.212.130.182 (talk) 05:36, 5 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
She can do almost whatever she likes on her user page.
Chill.
Figbiscuits (talk) 05:42, 5 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Figbiscuits: What the IP said is completely correct. There are, in fact, guidelines about what you can put on your userpage. As you are a very new editor, I would recommend you refrain from volunteering on the Help Desk or Teahouse until you gain some policy experience. WP:BITE me. Figbiscuits (talk) 06:41, 5 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@figbiscuits: gladly. by linking bite you've proven you're not a newbie. ltbdl (talk) 06:45, 5 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Upload it to "Commons" - it's a place that stores free-to-use pictures.
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:UploadWizard
You have to log in there, and allow anyone to use the picture - that's the deal.
Then you can put it on your page, using code like,
[[File:Binette-typo.png]]
Figbiscuits (talk) 05:40, 5 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Just remarking, that Wikimedia Commons is intended for hosting pictures of potential educational or cultural value, it is not a social media sharing site. Most photos of non notable persons or situations like social occasions would not qualify under those guidelines. I know most of the pictures in my own albums would not, however much personal interest to me they may have. Just sayin'... Tony 1212 (talk) 00:47, 6 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Please put the publisher for reference number 16 - I got confused. Thanks 175.38.42.62 (talk) 08:38, 5 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

It has been inserted by another user. 🛧Midori No Sora♪🛪 ( ☁=☁=✈) 11:02, 5 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Please provide the PUBLISHER for reference number 18 in this article. Thank you 115.70.23.77 (talk) 22:30, 5 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

my edits[edit]

Hello! I wasn't going to edit at all. I'm completely serious. Return my edits! 188.162.250.58 (talk) 11:23, 5 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

You've also delved into a topic that is taken extremely seriously. Your wholesale removal of material from Combined oral contraceptive pill was unacceptable, especially since you appeared to do so to advance an opinion related to abortion. Further, you've added links that appear to be to a blog or otherwise located at a phone carrier's(?) website; such links are not reliable sources. —C.Fred (talk) 11:25, 5 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

 – Combined sections. GoingBatty (talk) 05:34, 6 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know how to write in the old topic, so I'll write here. I believe that abortions are unacceptable. In this case, Wikipedia wrote biased. She spread false reports about the abortivity of COCs. Although everyone knows about their abortivity. This needs to be fixed. 188.162.250.156 (talk) 22:12, 5 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia is not for posting our personal views on a topic. 331dot (talk) 22:14, 5 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

 – Combined sections again. GoingBatty (talk) 15:28, 6 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I understand that. But an unscientific, contrary to reality opinion was published there. Everyone knows that COCs are abortive. Doctors do not argue with this. And it says the opposite. 188.162.250.119 (talk) 11:22, 6 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

This is probably about Combined oral contraceptive pill, where 188.162.250.58 has removed extensive sourced content and substituted opinion, and later added uncited sources in Russian. Maproom (talk) 14:10, 6 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
To respond in some previous question, please click the reply link. If "everyone knows" something (I didn't) then finding at least one reliable source should be really easy for you. Shantavira|feed me 14:09, 6 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

 – Combined sections again again. GoingBatty (talk) 02:32, 7 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I clicked the reply link, right here. Yes, I did not specify the sources according to the protocol. But this is really widely known information. I'll look for sources. 188.162.250.196 (talk) 22:26, 6 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Please edit the previously existing section, instead of creating a new section with every post. 331dot (talk) 22:33, 6 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

continuation 4[edit]

I don't see any edit button, it's really clear information. You're talking about a lot of responsibility. But the article reported false information. It can lead to trouble for users. Not a word about the dangerous consequences. 188.162.250.30 (talk) 09:53, 7 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

There should be an edit button in both the section header and at the top of this page. This may be easier to find if you view Wikipedia in desktop mode in a browser(even on a phone). It makes it difficult to follow the conversation if you create a new section with every post. 331dot (talk) 10:00, 7 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Always report only medical data. And in the instructions to the COC it is written that abortive. 188.162.250.255 (talk) 22:20, 7 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Does "Bibliography" go before or after "References"? JackkBrown (talk) 14:11, 5 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@JackkBrown: In this article, the "Bibliography" seems to be full citations to the sources in the References section. Per MOS:REFERENCES, it would go after the "References" section. GoingBatty (talk) 14:46, 5 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Colored text in source editor[edit]

Hi, I'm looking for a way to make the code when editing a wikipedia page using source to be color-coded,for example HTMl tags. The 2 gadgets availableby default did not seem to work :/. Any ideas on what could bring the source editing closer to a IDE editing experience?

Thanks, Cocobb8 (💬 talk • ✏️ contribs) 15:04, 5 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Cocobb8: Your edits are tagged "2017 wikitext editor". This indicates you have enabled "Use the wikitext mode inside the visual editor, instead of a different wikitext editor" at Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-editing. That should already use color-coded text. Is it all the same color for you? See WP:HILITE for other tools. Disable the 2017 wikitext editor if you try them. PrimeHunter (talk) 17:14, 5 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@PrimeHunter Yes, I do use the 2017 editor and it's all the same color. Do you know why? I'd rather use the default color-coding by wikipedia if it exists. Thanks! Cocobb8 (💬 talk • ✏️ contribs) 18:24, 5 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
In the top right of the editor, you will find "Publish changes". Left to that is a pencil menu, and left to that a hamburger icon button. Click that button and it brings up additional options for the editor and page. One of them is "Syntax highlighting" —TheDJ (talkcontribs) 18:59, 5 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I didn't know syntax highlighting is optional in the 2017 editor. PrimeHunter (talk) 19:50, 5 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
😀 Thank you very much to you both! It's going to make editing a whole lot easier. Cheers, Cocobb8 (💬 talk • ✏️ contribs) 19:53, 5 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

How can I edit someone's name on the title?[edit]

I need to edit the name of an artist we represent, as her birth name no longer is current 174.127.30.206 (talk) 18:57, 5 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

This is called Moving a page and can only be done by more experienced editors. You can request this at the Wikipedia:Requested moves desk. Please remember that Wikipedia needs external reliable sources, so this information has to be published outside of Wikipedia and you will have to quote those sources. We cannot take people's word for what they "know to be true". —TheDJ (talkcontribs) 19:04, 5 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Please note as well that if you represent the artist, then you are what Wikipedia regards as a paid editor. You must make a formal declaration of this - preferably by creating an account and placing the declaration on your user page, but if not, on the talk page of the article(s) you are connected with. Then you should not edit these articles directly, but should make edit requests. See the first link in this paragraph for more information. ColinFine (talk) 19:51, 5 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

AutoWikiBrowser[edit]

Is there a place where I can request an AutoWikiBrowser run? I can't do a run myself because AutoWikiBrowser doesn't work on mobile devices. Thanks, Andumé (talk) 19:38, 5 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

User:I Am Andumé, WP:AWBREQ is where to request an AWB run, but see also WP:JWB, a web-based alternative. Folly Mox (talk) 19:42, 5 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the help! Andumé (talk) 19:49, 5 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Request to Delete Draft:Sul Ponticello or find external help[edit]

Hello, I don't know if this is the right place to ask but I'm going to be bold and ask anyways. Is it possible to delete a draft before 6 months? I can't work on Draft:Sul Ponticello and have no will to work on it. Alternately, if anybody is willing to work on it for me, that would be of great help. ❤HistoryTheorist❤ 22:28, 5 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

HistoryTheorist, If you want to delete a page where you are the only author, add {{db-author}} to the top and it will be deleted shortly. TSventon (talk) 22:43, 5 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
thanks! ❤HistoryTheorist❤ 23:01, 5 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Ref number 18 - I need the publisher please. Also, please make the new file (old portrait) of David Martineau smaller. Thanks 115.70.23.77 (talk) 23:14, 5 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

That reference cites the Catholic Encyclopedia, which we have a bespoke template for, {{Cite Catholic Encyclopedia}}. This will take care of most of the work for you: you just need to provide the title (Juliana of Norwich, in your example). Folly Mox (talk) 04:11, 6 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
