Review and Potential Unprotection of Mizanur Rahman Azhari Article[edit]

Hello! The article on Mizanur Rahman Azhari has been protected indefinitely. I have created a draft on his biography in my user namespace, specifically at User:ImranAvenger/Mizanur Rahman Azhari. The protected and deleted article currently does not seem to meet the notability criteria. I kindly request you to review the article in my user namespace, User:ImranAvenger/Mizanur Rahman Azhari, and assess whether it aligns with the notability guidelines. I want to mention that I translated the content from the Bengali Wikipedia. If, after your review, it is found to adhere to the guidelines, I request that you unprotect the article and move User:ImranAvenger/Mizanur Rahman Azhari from my user namespace to the main namespace. Data entry deletion[edit]

Hi, I tried to enter a piece of information related to the Festival I work for on this page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_multigenre_conventions and I would like to know why the line I added is then deleted Vale3311 (talk) 12:15, 20 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Esw01407: this question is for you. Please respond. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 12:18, 20 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Vale3311: Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. First of all, given that you work for the festival (even if you are an unpaid volunteer), please read the policy about paid editing and make the appropriate disclosure.
If you look at the article history, Esw01407 reverted your edit twice with the edit summaries of "WP:WTAF" and "write the article first". Granted, that is a bit rough, but it does explain their reasoning. If you click on that page, it is an essay that says one should write the article about a topic (in that case, Napoli Comicon) before linking to it in other pages.
Now, there are layers to this.
  1. WTAF is only an essay. WP:REDLINK, which is a guideline, says that it is acceptable to put in links without a corresponding article if one reasonably expects that the article could be created. The existence of an Italian Wikipedia article about the convention is a strong indication that an English Wikipedia article has a chance (even if notability criteria differ a bit, so no guarantees).
  2. List of multigenre conventions is a list. How to choose which entries belong to a list and which don’t is a vast topic, but one of the most common criteria is "everything that has a Wikipedia article (and fits in the list)". (Read the CSC link, it goes on to explain what should be done when the entry is notable but does not currently have an article.) To me, it seems a reasonable criterion for the multigenre list.
In any case, the next step is to open a discussion on the talk page (Talk:List of multigenre conventions). TigraanClick here for my talk page ("private" contact) 12:42, 20 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
So usually the standard for these convention lists has been a wiki article, usually English language on at least the ones I've edited. They tend to become messy due to conventions trying to add themselves when they don't have enough sources or notability for an article. This might be the first time anyone has tried a international linking on any of the lists I've edited, which I frankly would not be totally for due to how frequently conventions come and go. If there's a pre-existing standard on how this linking is supposed to work, I have no problem following it. Esw01407 (talk) 02:20, 21 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

How to show company[edit]

How do i show my company in your list? 98.118.52.74 (talk) 13:00, 20 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

That depends on what you mean, IP editor. There are a lot of lists of various companies on Wikipedia and some have different inclusion criteria than others. Which list in particular are you referring to? If you're asking how to publish an article on your company, see Help:Your first article. 57.140.16.29 (talk) 13:04, 20 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
See also WP:NCORP and WP:COI. There won't be much chance of success if the aim is to create an article about a non-notable company.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 13:07, 20 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hurricane Carla 1961 (Texas Gulf Coast)[edit]

I understand that this meteorological event occurred a long time ago. I don't know that commenting on Hurricane Carla is worthy of mention at this time. I merely wish to suggest the Storm may have impacted more areas than were mentioned in the Wikipedia treatment of the event. I am familiar with the Baytown area, east of Houston. In 1961, it was a medium-sized town, dedicated to the operation of the Baytown Refinery, Humble Oil's (Later re-named Esso and Exxon) local plant. The Refinery was the largest producer/refiner of petroleum products in the United States. It bore the responsibility of supplying more diesel fuel and other petroleum-based products to American Armed Forces in World War II's European theater of operations than any other refinery. It continues as a major refinery today. The point of this comment is that I saw no mention Of Baytown as an area of impact in the Hurricane. I heard from many citizens shortly after the storm. Their stories were horrific. One newer subdivision on the edge of the residential area was completely flooded; nothing was left that could be recognized as homes, stores, schools, etc. My only reason for commenting is to suggest that Baytown may have been omitted either as a result of an error or oversight. I don't pretend to decide whether it is worthy of adding into the story of Hurricane Carle, I am merely stating that one city that was strongly impacted was not included, as far as I can see. It would be inclusive to add the name of "Baytown" to the list of communities that were affected. I had numerous friends and relatives in this community. I had a personal connection, although not a current one to the area when Hurricane Carle struck. It surprised me to see the town's name not a part of the storm's story. Thank you. Remoay (talk) 13:20, 20 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Remoay, all articles have talk pages - that is the standard place to discuss improvements to the article itself. If you post at Talk:Hurricane Carla and can provide reliable sources to back up your recollections, someone may eventually add the information. 57.140.16.29 (talk) 13:30, 20 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Remoay I'm afraid that without any reliable sources reporting the event, this cannot be added into the article. However, as the previous user recommended, try to find some sources then post them at the talk page, and someone might add it into the article. Industrial Insect (talk) 14:51, 20 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Remoay, here is an article about Hurricane Carla's impact on Baytown. Here is another article. This book appears to be a collection of news reports about Hurricane Carla and it includes at least three articles about its impact on Baytown. I hope this helps. Module:Transcludable section[edit]

Hello,

I had asked at WP Scotland about this module as it had been creating a lot of white space on some articles. I couldn't figure out where it was coming from as the code was basically identical to that on other articles. As an example, the code on 2022 Glasgow City Council election and 2022 East Ayrshire Council election are the same but the Glasgow wards (eg- Newlands/Auldburn (ward)) have white space added whereas the East Ayrshire ones (eg- Ballochmyle (ward)) don't. Number 57 has kindly provided a temporary solution at Linn (ward) but it would be much appreciated if someone could help figure out just what is wrong.

Thanks, Stevie fae Scotland (talk) 15:13, 20 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Have you asked the module's author(s)? When I put {{:2022 Glasgow City Council election|transcludesection=Newlands/Auldburn}} (from Newlands/Auldburn_(ward)) in Special:ExpandTemplates and tick 'Show raw HTML', at the bottom of the raw html window I see this:
<p>Source:<a href="#cite_note-1">&#91;1&#93;</a><a href="#cite_note-2">&#91;2&#93;</a>
</p><p><br />
</p><p><br />
</p><p><br />
</p><p><br />
</p><p><br />
</p><p><br />
</p><p><br />
</p>
which accounts for the whitespace. I notice that only that section transclusion in Newlands/Auldburn_(ward) has references so I wonder if the referencing is somehow confusing the module, or possibly MediaWiki. Ask the author(s).
Trappist the monk (talk) 16:02, 20 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That is interesting. I wonder why it doesn't do that on other pages. Thanks, I'll follow up with the author. Stevie fae Scotland (talk) 19:09, 20 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Stevie fae Scotland: Fixed for transclusion of 2022 Glasgow City Council election by removing a lot of newlines inside <onlyinclude>...</onlyinclude>.[1] PrimeHunter (talk) 19:49, 20 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much PrimeHunter, did not realise it would be something so simple! Stevie fae Scotland (talk) 19:54, 20 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Changing the content on Transactional Analysis page[edit]

Good afternoon,

yesterday I tried to change some content on the Transactional Analysis page:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transactional_analysis

However, I see that the revised content is still waiting for approval. I am a member of the European Association of Transactional Analysis (EATA) and as a member of the Association's Communications Committee, I am the responsible person for the contents of the social media accounts and also Wikipedia page about Transactional Analysis.

Could you please help me what I should do so that the changes we made on the page will be approved and seen publicly? Yesterday I just made a revision on a small part of the page. If that will be approved, we would like to continue with the rest of the page. The reason we would like to revise the content is that the current content is not updated and it does not include the necessary/important subjects, theories and content about TA.

Many thanks in advance for your support.

Kind regards, Deniz BowlbyMaya (talk) 17:05, 20 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@BowlbyMaya: You fall under our definition of a "paid editor", if you are being compensated in any way for this effort. This would include being a salaried employee of some organization the sends you to EATA meetings. You are required by our terms of use to declare this relationship: See WP:PAID. Even it you do not feel that you are technically "paid", you still have a technical conflict of interest (WP:COI) and you should still declare yourself. In either case you should not edit the article directly. Instead, suggest changes on the article's talk page, and add the {{request edit}} template. Please provide published reliable sources for your changes. Please note that Wikipedia does not recognize you as the "responsible person" for the article: see WP:OWN. I know this all sounds very negative and harsh, but please don't be offended. It's the way we have been operating for two decades now in our quest to be the best encyclopedia on earth, ans we welcome your contributions. -Arch dude (talk) 17:31, 20 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Note: BowlbyMaya {{request edit}} got renamed, you're most likely interested in {{Edit COI}}. Victor Schmidt (talk) 06:08, 21 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, thank you for your quick response. I do understand your concerns and am not offended. To make it clear; I am not paid by the association I mentioned. All members of the association are voluntary people and everyone takes different volunteering responsibilities. Mine is the content on social media and related public channels. I thought making revisions on Wikipedia would be beneficial for all readers who are interested in Transactional Analysis. There are some contents on the current page that really needs to be changed because they are not up-to-date and some of them are also not correct. One more thing to add is that I am not writing what EATA wants me to write, I am writing "as an independent person" who is interested in and also practicing TA and also a member of the TA Association. I think that these changes will really help to the readers and hope to get your support on this. Many thanks again. BowlbyMaya (talk) 08:09, 23 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
In addition to what Arch dude said, please note that all Wikipedia articles should be based almost entirely on what independent published sources say about the subject, not on what the associates of the subject say or want to say. If the changes you are asking for have been picked up and discussed by independent commentators, then they can very likely be made to the article. If they have not, then it is likely that the article will not be altered as you wish (though certain kinds of information can come from non-independent sources: see PRIMARY). Your requests will be much more likely to be actioned as you ask if you cite the relevant sources in your requests. ColinFine (talk) 21:03, 20 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Any policies agianst someone frequently changing their IP address for no apparent reason?[edit]

Are any policies agianst someone switching their ip address almost periodically without reason. Just asking because ive seen it happen a lot recently. Idontknowwhattouseasmyusername300 (talk) 17:05, 20 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Idontknowwhattouseasmyusername300 I'm not sure how you would know that a given editor was changing their IP if they had an account, and if it was an editor identified by their IP only, then this may well be out of their control. My ISP resets my IP address every time I lose a connection, for example. I'm not aware of any relevant policy and I don't think there could be one. Mike Turnbull (talk) 17:13, 20 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The reason why I asked was because I reverted a edit that had no reference without realizing the person had also made a large edit before that, it did a rollback because I was using AntiVandal. The person then switched their ip and reverted the rollback and insulted me in their edit summary. They then switched ip adresses agian 2 edits later. Idontknowwhattouseasmyusername300 (talk) 18:41, 20 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
all of the IPs were from the same country. Idontknowwhattouseasmyusername300 (talk) 18:42, 20 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Idontknowwhattouseasmyusername300: See Wikipedia:IP_hopper for information on this. RudolfRed (talk) 17:23, 20 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The Natalia Grace Story[edit]

It is incorrect-please read the Court Documents-Judge Gerald Zore received her actual birth certificate back in June 2012 which solidified the birth year change to September 04, 1989.....stop spreading false rumors this went all the way to to the Supreme Court and her age was affirmed by the Civil Registry Office of the City Natalia was born. I wonder who bought this misleading untruthful ad.......I know now Wikpedia Spreads false information......Natalia never took a DNA test. Miissi (talk) 23:42, 20 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Miissi: Wikipedia has no way to determine the TRUTH. All we can do is report what can be found in what we call "reliable sources: see WP:RS, and when reliable sources disagree, we can report the disagreement. The Natalia Grace article does just that. -Arch dude (talk) 00:26, 21 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Miissi: The best place to discuss issues with (or improvements to) this article (with published reliable sources) is the article's talk page: Talk:Natalia Grace. GoingBatty (talk) 02:38, 21 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
