Experimenting: can I get rid of these category members?[edit]

I am working on a new project and I have Category:Community feature requests index. Unfortunately Wikipedia:Community feature requests/preload and Template:Community feature requests are in the cat and I don't want them to be. Can it be fixed? Commander Keane (talk) 06:53, 24 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Commander Keane: Wrapping the category link in the template as well as the transcluded template in the /preload page inside <includeonly> tags should do what you're looking for, I believe. Tollens (talk) 07:01, 24 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Export policy or guidance[edit]

Is there any policy or guidance that tells when user can perform export? Sometime the export can damage entire Wiki pages when export templates and modules, especially from other language wikis. I just would like to hear your opinion. AntanO 09:26, 24 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Referencing errors on Traditionalist conservatism[edit]

Reference help requested. Hi everyone, I am trying to reference a section on Organicism where I state that Edmund Burke believed in organicism. Unfortunately, the website is paywalled, and the other websites have very problematic source formatting (date, title) issues. If anybody can repair the link or find a source that formats nicely, please do. Blocked IP addresses[edit]

Hi, some of my colleagues need to make changes to some pages for Griffith College and their IP addresses seem to be blocked so they are not allowed to edit the pages. Can I provide a list of IP addresses to be allowed? Thank you GC2024 (talk) 12:58, 24 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

GC2024 If your colleagues have accounts, they should request unblock from their accounts; they should receive instructions on how to do this when they attempt to make an edit(but they may see the unblock appeals guide as well). Whether the IPs can be unblocked will depend on the reason for the block- it is not permitted(for example) to edit via a webhost or VPN.
If you or your colleagues work for the College, you need to declare as paid editors, see WP:PAID for instructions. 331dot (talk) 13:08, 24 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Helloa, GC2024. Your choice of words "some of my colleagues need to make changes" suggests that you and they may be holding an erroneous understanding of what Wikipedia is. Please be aware that your college does not own the article about it, and does not decide what should be in it. You and your colleagues as welcome to make edit requests for changes to the article, but it will be indepedent volunteer editors who decide what to do with those requests. Referencing errors on Laura Micheli[edit]

Reference help requested. should I Delete the entire write up added or I ammend the reference

Thanks, Volkbonik (talk) 14:22, 24 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Volkbonik The reference you wanted needs to use {{cite web}}: something like this.[1] There has been a brief discussion about whether Olympedia is a reliable source (see archives at WP:RS) but overall it does seem acceptable. Mike Turnbull (talk) 15:05, 24 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
... note that the template {{sports links}} used as an external link in the article already links to the same webpage. Mike Turnbull (talk) 15:10, 24 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Name of an article[edit]

Is it possible to change the name of an article? Sigal1111 (talk) 15:18, 24 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Yes it is, but brand new user accounts can't do that. More details may give a more detailed answer, but see WP:MOVE. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 15:34, 24 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

John Lorenz von Mosheim[edit]

Is this the same man known as John Lawrence Mosheim, D.D., And Chancellor of the University of Gottengen, Author of AN ECCLESIASTICAL HISTORY, ANCIENT AND MODERN FROM THE BIRTH OF CHRIST TO THE BEGINNING OF THE PRESENT CENTURY: IN WHICH The Rise, Progress, and Variations of Church Power ARE CONDENSED In their Connexion with the State of Learning and Philosophy, and the POLITICAL HISTORY OF EUROPE during that Period. This help desk is for asking questions on using or editing Wikipedia. For general content questions, the WP:Reference desk is more suitable. Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 15:40, 24 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
IP editor. Given the information at Johann Lorenz von Mosheim, that would be "Yes". Mike Turnbull (talk) 16:20, 24 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

About Company Infobox.[edit]

Can we write company's present legal name in "Formerly" option of Infobox company?

Like it's written in Wikipedia page- ITC Limited. Sayeed2k (talk) 15:47, 24 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Sayeed2k, I am unsure what you are asking but it seems like there is nothing Wikipedia can do about it. Next time you have a question like this try posting it in the hep section of the site you are having trouble with instead of here where it will just waste time. Hope you can get your problem fixed though! Best regards, TypoEater (talk) 16:08, 24 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
OH MY GOD I'm so dumb... I wish I could delete this.
I have no idea why you would want to put the present name in the slot for the former name.
Please excuse my mistake, I am internally screaming right now.
Apologies from TypoEater (talk) 16:10, 24 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I asked this because i have seen some Wikipedia pages of companies, their present name is written in "Formerly" like Wikipedia page- ITC Limited, it's present name is written in "Formerly" as 'ITC Limited' (2001–present). Sayeed2k (talk) 16:14, 24 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sayeed2k I don't think it is correct to include the current name as a former name as at ITC Limited. ITC Limited has had several maintenance tags for years so it is probably not a good example to follow. TSventon (talk) 16:48, 24 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your reply, yes present name can't be write in "Formerly". Sayeed2k (talk) 17:00, 24 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Date of birth change[edit]

I am Christopher Britton Actor. The date of birth on my Wiki page is incorrect. All I want to do is change it to the CORRECT date.....December 23, 1948. I am now 75 years old. Would someone please make this correction. Thank you. Christopher Britton Dennis Vine (talk) 17:42, 24 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Dennis Vine - you asked this back in August 2023 and were advised "As for getting your birthdate corrected, I suggest you post a request to that effect on the article talk page. Be sure to provide a WP:reliable source for your birthdate!" - It appears you did not do that, but the advice remains the same.
We have no idea who you actually are, but are claiming to be Christopher Britton, whilst using a different user-name. We need a WP:reliable source for the Date of Birth, so it can be verified, both now, and at any time in the future. - Arjayay (talk) 17:55, 24 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Are you an agent or representative of Mr. Britton? 331dot (talk) 17:58, 24 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
13 years is a remarkable discrepancy: it would mean that instead of being a teenager in his first role in 1979 (which is consistent with other information in the article), Britton was actually 31. We would need to see a convincing published Reliable source to corroborate this claim.
I note also that the entirety of the article's biographical text (i.e. not the appearance tables) is unreferenced. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 176.24.47.60 (talk) 18:32, 24 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have removed the date as uncited, without adding another uncited date. Citations are key. How to cite cast[edit]

@InfiniteNexus: The motion capture artist for Ayalaan is credited 11th while the voice actor is credited 2nd. Whats the protocol? DareshMohan (talk) 18:24, 24 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Per MOS:FILMCAST (sorta) and overwhelming consensus, in billing order. Clarityfiend (talk) 03:43, 25 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The motion-capture performer should be indented in the list or incorporated in prose. InfiniteNexus (talk) 19:50, 25 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Procedure for converting an article to a redirect[edit]

Is there any procedure for performing this action? Could anyone direct me to specific WP guidelines regarding it? Thank you. Primium (talk) 18:42, 24 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Primium maybe WP:BLAR? Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 18:48, 24 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Cinderford Rusty Pole Article[edit]

People keep vandalising the article by trying to delete it as a joke, this needs to stop as it it frustrating to have to re-submit the article. Cinderfordtownassociation (talk) 19:25, 24 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

No they are not deleting it as a joke. You and some of your suspected other accounts are deleting the notice that there is a deletion discussion. This won't change anything. If you think that this article should be kept, please discuss at the deletion discussion and give a compelling argument for why it should be kept. – PharyngealImplosive7 (talk) 19:29, 24 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
 Courtesy link: Cinderford rusty pole
@Cinderfordtownassociation: You appear to be the vandal. The article has been nominated for deletion, and you have been repeatedly deleting the notice at the top of the article, despite it containing the instruction "do not remove this notice before the discussion is closed". Bazza (talk) 19:30, 24 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This is a genuine article why would it need to be deleted???? Cinderfordtownassociation (talk) 19:34, 24 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
See WP:Recentism for why it was nominated for deletion, and also look at the the deletion discussion. – PharyngealImplosive7 (talk) 19:36, 24 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Cinderfordtownassociation: If, instead of vandalising the article, you participated in the deletion discussion — a link for which is in the notice you keep deleting — then you could see why other editors think the article should be deleted. If you disagree, that is the place to say so and why. Bazza (talk) 19:37, 24 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have indefinitely blocked this account for a violation of the username policy, promotional editing, disruptive editing, and making false accusations of vandalism. Sockpuppetry also seems likely. Cullen328 (talk) 19:41, 24 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sockpuppetry has been confirmed at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Terry535353tvdgd. Cullen328 (talk) 19:47, 24 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I could not obtain the publisher of this book - ref number 1 in this article. please help. Thank you 101.182.70.182 (talk) 20:41, 24 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I know little about French publishing, but the title page seems to indicate "Administration De Librairie", which was associated with the author and bibliophile Paul Lacroix, who was probably the author of the book. writing under the pen name "Le Bibliophile JACOB". Cullen328 (talk) 21:20, 24 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Please help - - I cannot place the right publisher's name in the right section in citation number 1 - please can you place the words "Administration De Librairie" where "publisher" is meant to go? Please? Thank you 101.182.70.182 (talk) 21:39, 24 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sure you can! If you're using the source editor, just change |publisher=Unsure to |publisher=Administration De Librairie in the first citation. If you're using the VisualEditor, click footnote 1 and the edit button, then scroll down to the Publisher field and change "Unsure" to "Administration De Librairie", then click "Apply changes" and "Publish changes". Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 22:39, 24 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Rather more important than the publisher is, I think, the author. As Cullen328 and OCLC 458179424 indicate, the author behind the pseudonym was Paul Lacroix. You could use the "author-link" attribute for this. -- Hoary (talk) 01:50, 25 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

department of housing and construction in sydney[edit]

i dont want to ask a question but couldnt find a page where i could set the record straight on the above governmrnt department in sydney. i worked for that department and the dates are wrong. the government department of housing and construction was before 1977 because i got a job there around september 1977 and it was named the above department so i dont know who the source of your info is from but it was known as department of housing and construction well before i joined. and the department mostly built public housing places. 114.76.247.167 (talk) 23:08, 24 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

If you have suggestions to improve an article, start a discussion on that article's talk page. Any information must come from published sources, not your personal recollection. RudolfRed (talk) 00:19, 25 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello. It would be helpful if you would specify which of our six million articles you are referring to. I haven't found a "Department of housing and construction" for Sydney, but I have found three for Australia: I'm guessing you are referring to Department of Housing and Construction (1978–1982), but maybe you were looking at
Each of those has citations to sources, though I confess that the source that is cited for the recreation of the department in 1978 (http://naa12.naa.gov.au/scripts/SearchOld.asp?Number=CA+2747) does not currently seem to be accessible.
In any case, the place to bring up such a question is on the Talk page of the relevant article. But note that unpublished information, including personal recollection, is not accepted as a source for Wikipedia. You would need to find a published source for the department having existed in 1977.
