Citing a newspaper article published only in paper form[edit]

I need to cite a newspaper article published only in paper form. The article appeared in The Wisconsin Jewish Chronicle on Friday, August 23, 1991. Here's a link to a scanned copy at Newspapers.com:

Do not use Wikipedia library urls in citations because only registered Wikipedia editors can see the source. Use a url that goes directly to newspapers.com. In {{cite news}}, place the url in |url=; include the name of the newspaper in |newspaper=; include |via=Newspapers.com.

In addition to the advice from Trappist, if you have not read Wikipedia:Newspapers.com, please do so as it contains specific information about using newspapers.com with Wikipedia, including advantages and caveats of using the clipping feature to make particular articles accessible to people who don't otherwise have access to newspapers.com. Uploading Book cover image on Wikipedia[edit]

Hi, I wish to add a cover image for the book Why Bharat Matters from a source like goodreads.com or amazon.com, but am unaware how to do that. I can only upload to Commons, but that led to Copyright issues and my changes were reversed (Refer: Reversal)

I see books pages that have images from such sources:

Milk and Honey (poetry collection) - uses goodreads image as "Fair Use". It's Licensing mentions that the image qualifies as fair use under the copyright law of the United States. (Refer: File:Milk and Honey (poetry collection).jpg#Licensing)
Rich Dad Poor Dad - uses amazon.com image as "Fair Use". Licensing mentions same reason as above.Waonderer (talk) 09:41, 18 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Waonderer, you should be able to upload the cover to Wikipedia with a fair use claim using Wikipedia:Upload, as was done for the examples you quoted. Waonderer, no image "qualifies as 'fair use'". Instead, a particular use of an image may qualify as "fair use". Wikipedia did not remove the image from Commons. Commons administrator Ymblanter removed it from Commons. You can upload a conventionally copyright image (of which I imagine that this cover is an example) to English-language Wikipedia, provided that you do so in accordance with a number of constraints and requirements. -- Hoary (talk) 12:36, 18 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Whoop whoop beep beep: If you mean how to install it then see Wikipedia:Ultraviolet/Install. If you mean which technology it uses then it's written in TypeScript, a variant of JavaScript. It runs in your own browser when you are at en.wikipedia.org if you request it in User:Whoop whoop beep beep/common.js or a similar page. Most browsers have builtin support for JavaScript. If you mean how to use it after installation then see Wikipedia:Ultraviolet/Documentation. If you mean something else or still have a question then please be more specific. Copyright status of works by the Navajo Nation government[edit]

Hello,

I found this image of JoAnn Jayne on the official Navajo Nation website, but after a lot of research, I'm not sure of its copyright status. I did not see anything in the Navajo Nation code which expressly deals with the copyright status of works created on behalf of the government (though to be fair, I don't know if it is a work created on behalf of the NN government), and cannot figure out if this would be a federal issue or not because of tribal governments' unique status in US law.

Good evening[edit]

I'm a new page reviewer, but I'm yet to figure out where exactly is the option of sending a page from articlespace to draftspace is located, in the Page curation tool bar? I use mobile, so I have to turn to desktop screen to configure those tools, but still I couldn't find that option where new page reviewer send pages to draft and a message to the page creator simultaneously. The conventional 'move' tool doesn't send the messages to the editors, but I'm sure I have seen some reviewers do it who do both things at the same time, as a part of page curation process. companies with 500-10,000 employees[edit]

Generally, Wikipedia is only concerned with subjects which meet Wikipedia's own special criteria for notability (roughly, that enough has been independently published about them to ground an article).

Lists in Wikipedia are of Wikipedia articles, or at least of subjects that are notable in that sense, and so could be Wikipedia articles.

This means that, even if we had a list of Florida companies that size, it would not be, and would not be expected to be comprehensive, as companies even that size are not necessarily notable in Wikipedia's sense.

But in any case, I doubt that anybody has thought it worthwhile compiling such a list in Wikipedia. ColinFine (talk) 16:04, 18 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia does have a Category: Companies based in Florida category. I suspect there's a way to use WikiData to find all Wikipedia articles in that category (including all sub-categories and sub-sub-categories) that are about companies in that size range.

Wikipedia also has a List of Florida companies article, which (in compliance with the WP:NLISTITEM guideline) may mention companies that are not quite notable enough to support a stand-alone article about that company.

There are likely companies that do meet the stringent Wikipedia: Notability guideline that are not currently listed in either place, simply because our volunteers (such as yourself) haven't gotten around to mentioning those companies yet.

And of course there are lots of companies that do good work but will never be infamous enough to meet the stringent Wikipedia Notability guideline.

Perhaps the Florida Department of State ( https://dos.fl.gov/sunbiz/search/ ) may have more of the information you are looking for. --DavidCary (talk) 23:15, 19 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Templates on draft articles[edit]

What's the guidance for maintenance templates being used on draft articles? I've looked but haven't come across a relevant policy. I've seen some AfCs that have them but that seems redundant considering the nature of draft articles, especially before they've even been reviewed. Spagooder (talk) 16:45, 18 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think there's a specific guidance about it, but the goal of AfC is to get output from reviewers as for what might need to be improved/worked on, so cleanup tags would be redundant, especially if editors are in the process of writing the draft. This is the English Wikipedia: questions about Greek Wikipedia need to be addressed there. Try el:Βικιπαίδεια:Βοήθεια χρηστών.

@Elinakion: An infobox has been added again. The image is one of several fields in the infobox. You used VisualEditor where an infobox field can be edited by clicking the infobox and then "Edit" below it (or something in Greek). PrimeHunter (talk) 22:13, 18 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Trying to find a page that doesn't exist but should.[edit]

BALLROOM MARFA is an art foundation located in MARFA TEXAS. The foundation founded in 2003 by Virginia Lebermann and Fairfax Dorn. The Cultural institution which is a non profit space for contemporary art, music, film, culinary. The space has been host to over 2000 artists and gained international notoriety. The 501C3 Non Profit, has a website and has had the same address for the 20+ years that it has been open. The article Ballroom Marfa was deleted more than two years ago, with the message:

2021-12-10T12:09:36 Deb talk contribs deleted page Ballroom Marfa (G11: Unambiguous advertising or promotion).

In other words, it was inappropriate as a Wikipedia article. An article should summarise what independent reliable sources say about a subject, not what the subject's owners or promoters wish to say. Please see WP:G11, WP:NPOV, and WP:NOTPROMO. ColinFine (talk) 21:25, 18 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Picture disappeared after editing[edit]

I corrected the name of my relative (Sallie MacCracken) from Sally in the article and in the picture caption at this link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Upload?wpDestFile=William_P._and_Sallie_MacCracken_Jr.,_1935.jpg but the picture that had been on the page disappeared. @Cindy Avery: Your edit [2] changed Sally to Sallie in the name of File:William P. and Sally MacCracken Jr., 1935.jpg. There is no file called "William P. and Sallie MacCracken Jr., 1935.jpg". I have reverted your whole edit because the marriage source [3] and image source [4] both say Sally. Wikipedia is based on published reliable sources, not private knowledge of editors. @Cindy Avery, in the New York Times the notice of her remarriage to Vice Admiral Vincent Murphy and the obituary of Murphy's death give her name as Sallie. It appears she used both names. The description of MacCracken's papers at the Hoover Library says "1918 Married, September 14 to Sally Lucille Lewis" and "MacCracken's Papers were given to the Hoover Library by Mrs. Sallie L. MacCracken Murphy and her daughter, Nell Elizabeth MacCracken". You can use that as a reference to show that she used both names. StarryGrandma (talk) 22:51, 18 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Done Scroll to the front of the book and you'll see both authors and publisher mentioned on the title page. You need to check the date though, your citation gives 1931 whereas the title page shows 1934. Martin of Sheffield (talk) 22:35, 18 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Lee Carson[edit]

Why is there no page for Lee Carson? She was one of the most respected war correspondents during War War II. Not only does she not have her own page, she isn't even listed on the page for war correspondents.
