To be retagged keeplocal because...Commons is commons. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Deletion_review/Log/2014_March_6 -Elvey(tc) 06:09, 14 October 2015 (UTC)

Can you clarify why "Commons is commons" is a reason for restoring a duplicate copy of this image on English Wikipedia? The editor who uses the pseudonym "JamesBWatson" (talk) 14:27, 14 October 2015 (UTC)
I think "Commons is commons" translates as "Commons's deletion practices have sometimes been felt on en:wp to be arbitrary and unpredictable, so the {{keeplocal}} template is used as an insurance against the Commons version of the image suddenly disappearing". JohnCD (talk) 20:23, 14 October 2015 (UTC)
I've been an editor at both Commons and en Wikipedia for many years and I have never seen an image "disappear" for no reason at Commons. In my experience Commons administrators are far more familiar with copyright law than Wikipedia administrators. If an image is deleted at Commons, it would likely have been deleted for the exact same reason (barring fair use) here at en Wikipedia once someone got around to it. Keeping duplicate copies at multiple projects just makes more work for the largely unrecognized editors who maintain the file description pages. Kelly hi! 21:12, 15 October 2015 (UTC)
I've had works I've uploaded get moved to Commons, deleted here, then deleted from Commons. I now save images for situations like this, but it was really disturbing and distressing when I hadn't. I add {{Keep local}} even to images used here under fair-use (which was one of the situations I ran into: a vector logo was moved to Commons, deleted here, deemed to surpass the complexity needed to be PD and deleted off Commons, leaving the article without the image). I'm not going to personally juggle two projects. I'm also not going to contribute to Commons in the future as I can see even simply sharing the works I've uploaded there is getting used against me here.
And just a gentle reminder: you wouldn't have any file description pages to maintain if you didn't have content contributors. Remember that when you're going around making contributors lives difficult. —Locke Coletc 23:22, 15 October 2015 (UTC)
@JamesBWatson: See my comment directly above for an example of how content being moved to Commons can be a pain... —Locke Coletc 23:24, 15 October 2015 (UTC)
  • WP:NOTHOST suggests that we shouldn't host pictures which "are[n't] used (or [won't] be used) in encyclopedia articles or project pages". This file is currently not in use anywhere. Will it be used somewhere? --Stefan2 (talk) 20:46, 15 October 2015 (UTC)
  • In this case, the image is a work of the government of Florida and it's well-established that those images are in the public domain. The image is properly sourced and tagged at Commons and I can't imagine any circumstances in which it would be deleted there barring a change in copyright law, in which case it would also be deleted here at en Wikipedia for the same reason. Kelly hi! 21:23, 15 October 2015 (UTC)
Not done I do understand the frustration that Locke Cole must feel, but now that the reason has been explained, it is clear that the intention is to use Wikipedia as a host for an unused file not so that it can be used, but as a protection against a possible deletion from commons that there is currently no reason to expect. If and when the file is deleted from commons, and if there is a use for it on English Wikipedia, there will be a reasonable case for considering whether it should be restored here; unless and until that happens, there isn't.  Not done. This is not the forum to contest pending deletions. Now that it has been deleted, it could be restored if the criterion WP:CSD#A9 no longer applied (that is, the artist is sufficiently notable to merit his own article). But until that happens, the article cannot be restored. ~Amatulić (talk) 19:29, 17 October 2015 (UTC)

I, Metcalfep, request the undeletion of this Articles for creation submission deleted under CSD G13. Please restore the page as I intend to work on it. Metcalfep (talk) 07:07, 16 October 2015 (UTC)

  • Metcalfep, you'd previously requested that this be restored back in March and you made no edits to the page. I also note that I'd reviewed a request earlier that same month and expressed concern over the article's tone, as it read a great deal like an obituary (meaning possible WP:COPYVIO) and had a tone that was so casual that it would require the page be re-written. I'd invited you to comment back about this, yet you never replied. What we'd need before restoring this is for you to show us that you will actively edit the page and improve upon these concerns, not to mention to show that this was not taken from another place verbatim. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 07:41, 16 October 2015 (UTC)
  • Wikipedia is not meant to indefinitely host material. I'm also worried about the conflict of interest here, given that the last name of the person you're writing about and your username are identical. I'd like you to also read over the conflict of interest guidelines at WP:COI. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 07:43, 16 October 2015 (UTC)

Hi Thank you for your response. To address your points: - as the grandson of the subject I do have a conflict of interest and am happy to mention this on my user page for visibility. It is purely on the basis that I am a member of the subject's family and I do not stand to gain in any way by publishing this article. I simply regard his pioneering road race activity in Northern Ireland as notable and worthy of publication. - I sought un deletion in March with the intention of correcting the issues raised but I was subsequently very busy with my job and family and procrastinated too long. I do still intend to correct the issues raised. - if you accept the above and un delete the article, as a total newcomer to Wikipedia I, no doubt, will require some further assistance but I believe there is sufficient independent verification of Norman Metcalfe's activities, in addition to family archive, to warrant publication and an opportunity to submit a second draft would be appreciated. Thank you — Preceding unsigned comment added by Metcalfep (talkcontribs) 07:17, 18 October 2015 (UTC)

  • Done Metcalfep, sounds good - we mostly just wanted to have you respond just to show that you're still active, although the other issues are ones that will need to be dealt with. I'd recommend that you heavily utilize the WP:TEAHOUSE during your editing, since they can be very, very helpful with overall editing issues. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 07:31, 18 October 2015 (UTC)

Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Richard Rozbora

I, Sugarfree.sk, request the undeletion of this Articles for creation submission deleted under CSD G13. Please restore the page as I intend to work on it. Further edit and update -Sugarfree.sk (talk) 14:08, 18 October 2015 (UTC)

@Sugarfree.sk:  Not done. This material seems largely copied from sites like Facebook and Fundanything.com, which cannot be restored for copyright reasons, but it is also (as would be expected for material written for those sites) far too promotional in style, full of "peacock terms", PR-speak like "talented, experienced and knowledgeable... sheer sophistication with a passion for detail... high quality precision and a unique approach... luxury, gentle extravagance, clean and sophisticated style... " That is not an encyclopedia article, it is a blatant advertisement, and nothing like that is acceptable in Wikipedia. I am astonished (and apologetic) that this was not explained to you when this draft was first submitted.
It seems likely that Rozbora is notable enough, in Wikipedia's sense, to have an article, but you would need to start with a clean sheet, write from a WP:Neutral point of view, eliminate all the glowing adjectives of praise, and concentrate on statements of fact, not opinions, cited to reliable independent sources.
If you are connected with Rozbora, please read Wikipedia:Conflict of interest and the Wikipedia:Plain and simple conflict of interest guide, and note that you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's Terms of Use ("Paid contributions without disclosure" under section 4), and in some jurisdictions by laws against covert advertising, to disclose your interest in any edits where you have a COI. @Wwedxdon73:  Not done. This page was deleted as promotional: you may ask the deleting administrator, Jimfbleak (talk), whether he is willing to move it into your user space for you to work on.
Wikipedia does not have "official pages" for people. It seems possible from this edit to your user page that you are Yahya Butt. If so, please understand that Wikipedia is not a site like Facebook or LinkedIn for people to write about themselves. That is strongly discouraged, for reasons explained at WP:Autobiography.  Not done. This seems to be a copy of this paper, so cannot be restored for copyright reasons; but in any case it is not suitable for Wikipedia. An encyclopedia summarises material published in reliable sources; it is not the place to post the full text of documents like this - see Wikipedia:Do not include the full text of lengthy primary sources and WP:NOTREPOSITORY #3. • Stuartyeates: Although I will say that if you don't get a timely response from GorillaWarfare, let us know. I trust you with article content enough to where I figure that I could safely e-mail you a copy of the data if all else fails. However GW is still active and I don't see where you wouldn't get a response soon. I figure that we should hold off on DRV until after you've improved the article, since all you want to do at this stage is work on a draftspace copy, not restore it to the mainspace. This cool with you, JohnCD? I don't want to step on your toes here, I mostly just want to avoid this going to DRV if all they want is to userfy the article since restoration would likely require approval from either GW or DRV. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 13:22, 16 October 2015 (UTC)
  • Yes, fine, I was just quoting the "standard script" which offers DRV if the requester is not happy after consulting the deleting admin. In this case, userfy or restore-to-Draft is the obvious thing to do, but as a courtesy to GW we should let her comment. JohnCD (talk) 13:29, 16 October 2015 (UTC)

I want to advocate that Late Mr Prakash Nayudu was a test cricket player, junior national table tennis champion, A president Medal winner Police Officer who was a well known person in the MP Cadre. He was son of Col. C.K Nayudu, who was also reported in various news papers for his brilliant cricket in several matches cross the country some of them being Central Zone against west Indies (1958), M.P against Pakistan ( 1961)Ranji Trophy (1957-1962) He had also won Table tennis Open Title 27 times, and Triple Crown on several occasions in MP. He was awarded Presidential Police Medal for his meritorious services. He had earned several enconiums from Timesof India and India Today for timely awaiting sati-bid (self immolation) (http://indiatoday.intoday.in/story/woman-saved-from-committing-sati-in-madhya-pradesh/1/371977.html).

  • ZofiaJK, this had been previously restored in August 2014 and wasn't restored. A request to restore it a second time had been placed in March 2015 and a response was requested, but we received no response. We need some sort of assurance that you will work on the article this time if we restore it. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 09:37, 20 October 2015 (UTC)
  • ZofiaJK, please respond to this specific request. Posting new requests will not do anything (and if anything, does not look particularly good). AfC is not an indefinite holding space for articles that no one is working on, so we need some sort of assurance that you will work on this article this time. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 09:40, 20 October 2015 (UTC)

The new request was only posted in error. I have allocated time in the diary this week to work on this, so would really appreciate it if it could be undeleted. Many thanks indeed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ZofiaJK (talkcontribs) 09:44, 20 October 2015 (UTC)

@ZofiaJK: very well,  Done - restored to a new location at Draft:Jon Stokes. JohnCD (talk) 09:48, 20 October 2015 (UTC)
@ZofiaJK:, I do have to extend this caution: if this is deleted without any edits made then it is very, very unlikely that this will be restored a third time. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 09:56, 20 October 2015 (UTC)

  • Not done - this page was deleted in accordance with criterion for speedy deletion A7. If you believe that this decision was made in error, or that significant new information has come to light since the deletion, please contact the administrator who carried out the deletion, user JohnCD (talk · contribs). If you have already done so, your concerns can be taken to deletion review. There was no claim of importance, and youth country representatives do not pass WP:Athlete. A draft may be possible if you have more info, such as newspaper stories. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 20:16, 20 October 2015 (UTC)
@Tesoro77: Wikipedia is quite choosy about subjects for articles, see WP:Notability. For a footballer, WP:NFOOTBALL explains what he needs to have achieved in order to have an article (you may need to scroll up that page to find the heading "Association football").
The article said that Adesina Femi Paul played for Liberty Professionals F.C. from 2000 to 2013, making 92 appearances and scoring 39 goals. If that was for the first team, and could be verified, it would be good enough, but I have trouble with it because:
(a) in 2000 he was only 8 years old; maybe that was a mis-type for 2010, but
(b) Wikipedia keeps copies of all the old versions of each article. I have looked at versions of the Liberty Professionals F.C. article from 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 and I do not see Paul's name in the listings of the current squad at those dates.
If he was playing for a junior team, that would not be enough. So, if you can show me a reliable source to prove that he actually played for Liberty Professionals first team, I will restore the article for you to work on; but otherwise, it would be wasting your tims.

I cannot see that there was ever such an article or Sporting Clube de Portugal (football). Can you please check what it was called or if it was the English Wikipedia that it was on? Graeme Bartlett (talk) 10:51, 20 October 2015 (UTC)

1 Mustafa Mahmoud Said Ahmed

2 Mustafa Mahmoud Said Ahmed was a walk-in at American Embassy in Nairobi in November 1997 and following review by CIA was inappropriately rejected as untrustworthy. The information, however, that Mustafa provided was correct as evidenced by the Al Qaeda bombing of US Embassy in Nairobi on August 7, 1998. Mustafa was subsequently charged with the bombing of the US Embassy in Dar es Salem. He was held in jail for approximately 18 months and released without going to trial and without any explanation from police authorities. There is available information that Mustafa played an important role in the al Qaeda 9/11 attacks in the United States.

Please send me a copy of the original article so that I may incorporate into a more lengthy and up to date article that I believe will be of interest to readers.

Thank you.

Beanfest

Beanfest is a semi-annual community climbing event -- previously an annual event -- held in various locations throughout the West and Southwest United States that has run for over twenty years. Each Spring and Fall, the next season's beanmaster is "beaned" during a beaning ceremony. This person is then in charge of picking the date and location for next season's festivities. The community event has in the past been shrouded in a certain amount of secrecy, with information passing only by word of mouth -- adding to its mystique. Because of this, historical documentation is limited. We find mention of it in interviews with legacy climbers and in guidebooks and feature articles, such as in Climbing.com's "Cochise Whispers." This Wikipedia article was a good place to find and curate accurate information about the festival. Other places interested parties have attempted to collect information: Mountain Project -- see this article -- and Facebook. In recent years with the help of social media and social pressure, the event has been publicized and is now open for any to attend. Climbing/outdoor gear companies and breweries will often sponsor the event or at least offer discounted product. In 2012 The Beanfest Facebook group was started by then-beanmaster Brigette Beasley to better keep a record of Beanfest particulars. She made the request this year (2015) on that group's page to find the removed Wikipedia article and have it undeleted so that new climbers can have a better understanding of the history.

The Beanfest Wikipedia article was deleted due to an expired PROD. The climbing community in Southern Arizona and beyond would like to see it restored. If it needs editing, we are happy to take it in hand. -Lora Rivera Director -Lroseriver (talk) 16:43, 22 October 2015 (UTC)

@Lroseriver: Done - as a contested proposed deletion, the article has been restored on request. I will notify user Vrac (talk), who proposed it, and who may choose to nominate it at WP:Articles for deletion, which would start a debate lasting seven days, to which you would be welcome to contribute. Additional references to coverage in reliable sources would help to establish Wikipedia:Notability.
This page should not be used as a "home-page" for the Beanfest, or a place to communicate plans, but it sounds as though there is a Facebook page for that purpose. That is not what an encyclopedia article is for, its role is only to summarise information already published in reliable sources (see WP:No original research). Not done - this Requests for Undeletion process is only for articles that were deleted uncontroversially, and does not apply to articles deleted after a deletion discussion. Since the article you are here about was deleted after a discussion took place at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Pearl V Puri, it cannot be undeleted through this process. However, if you believe that the outcome of the discussion did not reflect the consensus of the participants, or that significant new information has come to light since the article was deleted, you may contact the administrator who closed the discussion, user Davewild (talk · contribs).
