Article not appearing on Google search

Hello! I've been creating an article called EnviroBuild. You can find it by searching 'EnviroBuild' on the top right hand corner search box of Wikipedia, and I've also linked it to where the company is mentioned on a different page. However, when I google 'EnviroBuild' it doesn't appear in the Google search. Is this just something which takes a bit of time or could it be something else? @Redbromeliad16: Hello and welcome to the Teahouse. It takes time for Google to index articles, and that only happens once they are formally reviewed. Cleaning up after a page move

Hello everyone,

I have been properly closing some page move discussions and moving the pages where concensus has been reached to move them. Wikipedia has a “simple instructions for closing a page move discussion” page that was easy for me to follow and apply. However, for cleanup after a page move, I couldn’t find any such Wikipedia instruction pages on the page move cleanup process that were simple enough for me to comprehend. Instead, it’s very technical and complicated with a lot of unfamiliar jargon. How can I learn how to do the proper page move cleanup procedures in simple layman’s terms? If it helps for the answerer to understand my skill level of Wikipedia editing, at this point I’ve performed many different types of edits, including page moves, closing discussions, requesting page protection, inserting images, creating info boxes, inserting all types of templates, talk page discussions, etc.

@Mrbeastmodeallday: Always link pages you refer to, or give the exact name. Is Wikipedia:Simple RM closing instructions the first page? @PrimeHunter: Hi thanks for responding. Yes, the first page I was referring to was Wikipedia:Simple RM closing instructions; it was super easy to follow and understand. The page I found too complicated was Wikipedia:Requested moves/Closing instructions#Moving procedures. I was not aware of Wikipedia:Moving a page#Post-move cleanup until just now as you have informed me about it. The latter is definitely simpler in terms of comprehending it, but there still lies a difficulty in understand how to implement the policies. For example, I don’t know how to figure out what pages redirect or have a hatnote to the former departure page of a page move, let alone fix/cleanup all of them properly after a page move. @Mrbeastmodeallday: Do you know Help:What links here? It's assumed users know this feature if they close move discussions but maybe it should be linked clearly. Click "Hide links" to only show redirects (also click "Hide transclusions" on templates). It can be more difficult to find links in hatnotes if there are many other links. A little technical problem

You know those drop down templates found at the bottoms of articles, such as Template:Xiamen? Also know how there are three buttons at the top left on all of them that say "V", "T", and "E", for "view", "talk", and "edit"? I'm on Chrome on a Huawei phone, and none of the buttons work at all. Pressing them only brings up descriptions of the buttons, "edit this template", etc. I can still edit them of course, but it's kind of inconvenient. How do I fix this? @Woshiyiweizhongguoren: Welcome back! The cheeky answer is so say "get a different phone", but I don't think it's your phone that's at fault. I'm seeing exactly the same issue on an iPhone 5S whilst in desktop view (I never use mobile view). I think your question is probably too technical to be answered here, so could I politely pass you on to ask again at Village Pump (technical) which is where I go to find answers from folks who really know their technical stuff? RyanForArizona, if you're talking about setting up your user page, you can do that by editing User:RyanForArizona. If you're talking about putting an autobiography on Wikipedia, don't. That's a strong conflict of interest. signed, Rosguill talk 06:16, 28 March 2019 (UTC)

A problem: The source - Baseball Life - appears to be a website/blog created by one person. By Wikipedia standards, this probably not considered a reliable source as a reference. If you do Google or other search engine searches on John Scolinos, can you find the same facts worth adding to the article, attributable to other sources, for example a newspaper or magazine? Editing Wikipedia - relax and enjoy the experience!

Hello Hans RayBan. Thanks for dropping in at the Teahouse to say hello and to offer help. That's really brilliant - we'd love your contributions to this encyclopaedia. It can be overwhelming at first to know how best to contribute. We always advise people to start off looking at articles (or categories of articles) that simply interest you personally, or places you have visited. It's a great way to relive past trips, and along the way maybe you'll spot typos, factual errors, or statements unsupported by references which you can research and add. And if you've got your own images you can add, so much the better. Your writing and editing skills will definitely be useful, just so long as you appreciate the encyclopaedia isn't based on personal opinions or experiences, but simply collates existing 'reliable sources' to talk about that topic.
Might I suggest three things to read or do to set you off? Firstly, have a go at our interactive introduction to Wikipedia, called The Wikipedia Adventure (it doesn't work well on a mobile though). Visit Help:Getting started to get a more traditional sense of what resources are available to hep and guide you. And maybe WP:REFBEGIN on how to add inline citations to articles to support the content you've add, albeit reformatted in your own words, and definitely not copy-pasted in.
For random ways to help out, there's a million and one things available to do at Wikipedia:Task Center, but I suspect you'll get greatest reward by focusing on your own areas of personal interest. To that end we also have a wide range of topic-based Wikiprojects - some are very active, others quite the opposite. But they are a place to visit to get a sense of how people work together to improve a set subject area. They often list articles based on importance and quality. The tiny 'stubs' are the places most needing work doing to them.
We're here at the Teahouse 24/7 to help with any problems you might encounter. We're all volunteers, and work collaboratively. We - like you - give our time freely, and the key thing is to work together and enjoy contributing in those areas that you gain greatest satisfaction from. Helping to build or maintain what has become the world's greatest encyclopaedia is something I'm personally extremely proud to be associated with. I hope you enjoy your time here, too. My draft was deleted.

Hello,

I'm pretty sure, I followed every instruction previously suggested by some editors to make my article by the rules of Wikipedia.

Somehow, some editor deleted the 'article' I mean my draft for reason 'copyright' - just because this link http://www.darklightrecordings.com/site/artist/galoski/ was used.

The link is the website of the Record Label - where the artist GALOSKI / is releasing music and it was used as cite of the source.

Hi Stefcetodoroski. Welcome. The problem you encountered was not that you used the link - but you unambiguously copied that webpage's content into your draft - effectively 'stealing' copyrighted content. We can't allow that, hence its immediate deletion. See WP:COPYVIO. In future, you must always write Wikipedia content in your own words yet based upon reliable sources that clearly demonstrates the musician meets our Notability criteria. Does that make sense? I think there's missunderstanding a bit about the deletion. On that link there's biography from the artist - that I wrote back then for him. And I used my words to re-write and do article for the artist on Wikipedia. Your source isn't lost, in 2020 or 2021 you can evaluate it again for a 3rd Draft:Galoski. After two rejections this year it's a hopeless case, the volunteers in "articles for creation" are already more than two months behind.
If you'd help with other pages (add sources, whatever you like) you could get the rights to create new pages without "drafts", IIRC automatically after a few hundreds (less than 500) of constructive edits. You could also answer the question on your talk page, if you are Galoski, paid by Galoski, a relative, or anything indicating that you have read WP:COI. –84.46.52.48 (talk) 22:11, 27 March 2019 (UTC)
Hello, Stefcetodoroski. I'm not an admin, so I can't look at the deleted draft. But the deletion comment said "Unambiguous copyright infringement of http://www.darklightrecordings.com/site/artist/galoski/", which suggests to me that you copied the words from that site. Even if you originally wrote the words on that site, the site says "(c) 2015-2016 Darklight Recordings", so the text may not be used in Wikipedia unless it has been explicitly licensed by the copyright holder - which appears to be Darklight Recordings. If you hold the copyright in the words, then you would have to assure Wikipedia directly that you are the copyright holder, and that you agree to release the text under a suitable licence: see donating copyright materials.
But there is no point in your doing that, because the text in that link, while entirely appropriate for that site, is utterly inappropriate for a Wikipedia article. No Wikipedia article, on any subject, should ever use promotional language like "marked as the fastest-rising star" or " among the top in the industry", unless it is directly quoting a cited reliable source wholly unconnected with the subject of the article. Bear in mind that Wikipedia has almost no interest in what the subject of an article says about themselves, or what their friend or associates say about them: it is only interested in what people who have no connection with the subject have chosen to publish about them. A Wikipedia article should be a neutrally written (non-promotional) summary of what independent sources have said about the subject, nothing else. The Wikipedia article I wrote didn't have these words '" marked as the fastest-rising star" or " among the top in the industry," it was everything re-written into a neutral point of view. The same biography that's it on http://www.darklightrecordings.com appears on the official social media of the artist - and many other websites. "(c) 2015-2016 Darklight Recordings", this is by default there, I believe. Is there any option to have the draft:Galoski back? Is Dr Beth Latimer a Good Subject?/COI

Hello, I’m trying to decide whether this would be a good article subject, and am a new user.

I’m considering creating an article about Dr. Mary Elizabeth Latimer MD, a doctor with a office in Washington D.C, Latimer Neuorlogy Center.

I believe she specializes in neurology, as well as in PANDAS, a subset of autoimmune disorders I believe. PANDAS is a relatively new thing, and is not diagnosed more due to 20 years of controversy.

If you think this a good article idea, I would also like opinions on whether or not I should write it. If you go to my Userpage (User:SmileyTrek), you’ll [see] I have declared a conflict of interest regarding her potential article name. I have been diagnosed with PANDAS and have been treated by Doctor Latimer before.

This could and likely does indicate I hold bias on this subject. Again, if you feel this potential article passes notability, please give your opinion on the subject. Do you feel I’m an appropriate person to write this article alone? If not, would it be suitable if I collaborated with someone? @SmileyTrek: I looked her up and saw some coverage about her work with PANDAS, but no profiles of her. This suggests that you'd be better adding info about her to the main PANDAS article. If you're not being compensated but are familiar with her work, WP:COI might not be an issue. It depends on how well sourced, unbiased and non-promotional your contributions are. @Timtempleton: Well, I've done a quick Google search, and there's at least a page or two of search results that could be helpful. I didn't spend too much time visiting D. Latimer, only a few visits. I probably won't visit her again, but not because I had any conflicts with her, or because I had satisfactory treatment results, but for a different reason. @SmileyTrek: A ping must be part of a signed edit (to avoid unwanted pings when copying text). The failed ping [2] was not signed in the same edit. If you want to add a ping to an old edit then you must make a new signed edit. It's most reliable if you don't change the old edit but just add a new signed line below it. @Toadlilly: You should use the same method you used to edit the article in the first place. That is by clicking the "edit" tab and removing them. However someone has already done that for you. IP Editor: Adding to what Cullen advises above, depending upon where in the world you are, you may find there are far better resources available than the good folks at our ref desk. For example, in the UK we have iSpot. If you do go to the help desk, dont bother uploading an image to Wikimedia Commons (not the place for random unidentified images) - just supply a hyperlink to some external page or Facebook post, etc. If it happens to be a UK species, I'll gladly take a look at it for you, too. Knowing why you want to know its ID can also be helpful. e.g. are you worried it's infesting your property/eating your houseplant plants/garden pest/going to sting you/already know its Genus name- now keen to name it to precise species etc etc. Regards Nick Moyes (talk) 08:22, 29 March 2019 (UTC)

The lead should be cut down by 3/4 and there are far too many minor sycophantic additions which make me feel WP:TLDR. This is cruft and lazy referencing: Ramelli's books and essays are published, for instance, by Oxford University Press, Cambridge University Press, Brill, Harvard University Press, Mohr Siebeck, de Gruyter, Peeters, Brepols, Wiley-Blackwell, Routledge, T&T Clark, Wipf & Stock, Catholic University of America Press, SBL Press, InterVarsity, Gorgias, Polebridge, Cambridge Scholars, Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht, Harrassowitz, Winter, Academia, Kohlhammer, Beauchesne, Latomus, Barkhuis, Groningen University Library, Universidad Complutense, Signifer, Paideia, Bompiani, Vita e Pensiero, Augustinianum, Marietti, Officina di Studi Medievali, Cittadella, Mimesis, Dell'Orso, ESD, LEV, etc. Some of her academic books and articles are collected, for example, in her Orcid profile, her Kudos profile, with indications of the publishers' websites, her EHS and ISNS profiles, in WorldCat, where an indication of her most widely held books also appears, in Google Scholar, JSTOR, and elsewhere.[66] We are all capable of identifying publishers from any selected books that are listed. How is it that the creation and all of the major additions to this over-long article have been by IPs? Including 128.... who worked on this, and only this, during a couple of weeks in August 2017? Smells like PAID, COI or autobiography. Note that in Oct 2017 this was moved from Draft to Article by Swister Twister, an editor later blocked as a sockpuppet. The total amount of edits

Hello Stephengonzalez100 and welcome to the Teahouse! To find such information, go to the article in question and look for the Tools section of the left sidebar. You should see the option "Page information" somewhere in the middle of that. Click that and navigate to the "Edit history" section. Why are these three disambiguation articles separate?

They all describe the same thing. "九龍" is pronounced Jiulong" in mainland China and "Kowloon" in Hong Kong. If I were in charge, I'd merge 九龍 into Jiulong, but I don't know what to with Kowloon. If all those describe the same topic, surely there is only a need for a single disambiguation page, but the tough question is to know what to redirect to what. If I understand correctly what is going on (I speak no Chinese, and have zero knowledge of regional dialects etc.), I would not touch Kowloon (the page for the HK urban area) as it is the primary topic, move 九龍 (disambiguation) to 九龍 and make it the DAB page to which Kowloon (disambiguation) and Jiulong redirect. But all that mess is probably worth a trip to WP:RFD once you have determined whether the urban area is indeed the primary topic for "Kowloon" (it probably is), "九龍" (I guess it is not?) and Jiulong (probably not). Hi DaedalusGodOfWisdom. The file is being discussed at Wikipedia:Files for discussion/2019 March 28#File:EinsteinKirby.png; so, you can go to that page and simply post that you want the file deleted. Then, you can go to the file's page, click "Edit" and add {{db-author}} to the top of the page. This will let an administrator know that you are requesting that file be deleted per WP:G7. When you add the template, you should also briefly explain why in your edit summary for the edit.

@DaedalusGodOfWisdom: Copyright is a complicated topic, and it is not entirely clear to me that you creating this image is a violation of Nintendo's copyright, as many jurisdictions allow for parody reuse (which this may or may not be).
However, the image is likely to be deleted regardless, because exemptions to copyright still do not make an image free, hence to be hosted on Wikipedia's server, it has to meet all criteria for non-free images. I doubt there is any article for which that image would significantly increase readers' understanding of the article topic (NFCC #8).

Machiavelli

The Wikipedia page on Nicollo Machiavelli mentions that Tupac Shakur used Machiavelli as a stage name yet it does not mention that the song Best Life by Cardi B and Chancellor Bennet includes the line " I'm like Big Pop mixed with 2pac, I'm like Machiavelli(yeah)". It seems to me that since the popular culture section on Machiavelli includes novels, television and video games music should be relevant thereto. Furthermore it seems to me that if the song Something Just Like This were a worthy inclusion in the Wikipedia article on Achilles and if the song Hallelujah were a worthy inclusion in the Wikipedia page on King David then Best Life should be a worthy inclusion in the Wikipedia article on Machiavelli in the popular culture section. Yet whenever I insert that fact into said Wikipedia article it keeps getting deleted. Hi IP 142.169.78.149. Per Wikipedia:BOLD, revert, discuss cycle, you should really be discussing this at Talk:Niccolò Machiavelli and propose that the content be added to the article. Moreover, simply arguing that because something similar was done in other articles means that it should be done in the Machiavelli article is an WP:OTHERCONTENT type of argument that is not going to be very convincing in and of itself; instead, you should base your argument for inclusion on relevant policies and guidelines and how they support the addition. Even then, article content is basically determined through WP:CONSENSUS and if the consensus is to not add the content, then there's not much you can do other than continue to follow Wikipedia:Dispute resolution and move to the next step in the process. -- Marchjuly (talk) 13:55, 29 March 2019 (UTC)
Niccolò Machiavelli#In popular culture says Tupac Shakur used the name Makaveli, not Machiavelli. It does not belong in Niccolò Machiavelli. Even if it did reference him, it would be a few words not worth mentioning. @Crisarome: Hello and welcome to the Teahouse. I will shortly add the appropriate information to allow you to submit the draft for a review- however, if you were to submit it now I don't think it would be accepted, as it does little more than tell about the business. Wikipedia articles must do more than tell about the subject, they must indicate how it is notable. The sources offered are also not appropriate as they seem to be interviews and press releases, which do not establish that this business is notable per the guidelines written at WP:ORG. It also talks about things like "values" that are impossible to independently verify(as the business can change those at any time) This business needs significant coverage in independent sources that have nothing to do with the business itself- and the content of the article needs to be based largely if not totally on what those sources say.

Possible vandalism - next step?

I recently made a very small edit to a dab page (Canon). Within one minute, it had been reverted by another editor without specific comment. This may have been a good-faith vandalism check, as I was I not logged in when I made the edit. I initially decided to shrug it off as the matter was trivial. However, when I checked the user's Talk page, there were a couple of warnings. On checking his contribs for current date, there were a large number of reversions to seemingly random articles in the space of a couple of hours. When I enabled gadget Twinkle, many of these edits had a red tag "Vandalism".

(edit conflict) @D A Patriarche and Aviartm: I've reviewed this and am fairly confident that on both sides we can assume WP:AGF. Tony, your edit was obviously correct; Pachelbel's Canon isn't a "song", but the problem is that not everyone understands the term "chamber work". Aviartm is doing a lot of good work reverting petty vandalism. I'm willing to assume that "chamber work" sounded more like a building operation, and as such an edit from a lightly used IP would be clearly vandalism. Tony, you've now corrected things and left a good edit summary, so there is nothing else left to do. Moving on to Twinkle's "Vandalism" tag. The tag is not telling a reader that the edit is vandalism (or reverted vandalism), but provides a shortcut so that an editor can revert and warn in a single click. Finally, with respect to your work Aviartm, inexperience sometimes leads to excessive boldness. If you think something is vandalism but are not absolutely certain, then it is best to stop and check. Twinkle is a great tool, but the most important tool is the one between your ears. Speaking for my self, I've often let "dubious" edits lie for a while because I wasn't certain they were wrong. You can always look up the terms in a dictionary and come back.

@D A Patriarche and JJBullet: I just did a normal revert at the time because I was not too sure whether it was a good faith edit or not, so I went with the most basic one with the least chance of misinterpretation. The majority of my edits were targeting unregistered user edits because people who do not have an account with Wikipedia are more prone to vandalism and such and since you admitted that at the time you were not in your account, you did not think much, but by chance, I just took the safe road and reverted your edit. And after checking what chamber work is and all, I agree with your edit. I apologize for reverting it but at the time, we were doing two different things and by chance, we ran into each other with a slightly different view on what to do. Who decides if it is advertising? Hypothetically, if the movie is about Black Doodler, why wouldn't it be allowed? Or likewise, a book is written about the subject of a Wikipedia page. Also, at the same time another detail is in that same section stating that someone is writing a piece for a series but has no proof or links to the fact and its kept up? this is very confusing. @Idlerichracing: I think you're referring to putting external links to social media sites like Facebook and LinkedIn and using the icons. As far as I know, Wikipedia syntax isn't designed to do this - you can only use text, and the only non text symbol that I've seen is the little arrow indicating an inline external link, like at the end of [abc.com]. What they are actually asking (and have been blocked for before) is if they can upload scans of those articles (which is against copyright) and then use them directly as references in articles. I and other editors have tried explaining many times that they can reference material that is not available online if they source it properly, but they refuse to listen. Where is the line in determining what is considered advertising? I read a great book about a movie, and made reference to it on the director's page. It's a serious nonfiction book about movie production, hundreds of pages, and he is a dominant character. Translated quotations from sources in other languages

In Ata'ollah Ashrafi Esfahani there are a number of quotations in English from articles that appear to be in Farsi (Persian). I say "appear to be" because while some of the URLs given go to source pages that are all in Persian, many of them bring up a page that, according to Google Translate, says in Persian "You need to enter the site to view the article content. If you are not a member, join the membership." Thus I cannot see the article to tell whether the quotations are given there in Persian or in English. I consider English unlikely, as the speakers credited are Persian Muslim clerics. The article contains, or contained before the March GOCE backlog drive, many grammatical infelicities that indicate a non-native speaker's writing.

The reason I ask is this: If the English version is a translation by a Wikipedia editor, I will feel free to correct any such errors where the meaning is not in doubt, but if the quotation is in English in the source, I think I should not do so. Replacing image in article

Hi, I just registered an account because I think its the only way I can add images. However, I’m still not very familiar with how this is done so I was hoping someone here could help.

The picture I am trying to add is a high quality, high resolution photograph of my anus to the article human anus. The image is superior to and more detailed than the existing photo of a female anus featured at the top (I am female by the way), so this is the specific image I would like to replace Female and male anus. Unfortunately I don’t know how to upload my image. I tried using brackets around the file name on my computer just like it’s formatted in the article to my user page but it’s not working. Luisalott, You can upload images to wikipedia using the Wikipedia:File Upload Wizard. Then put the name of the image (File:xyz.jpg) on the page you want in brackets (so [[File:xyz.jpg]]). As you want to replace the image, simply find the previous image (eg. [[File:zyx.png]]) and replace it with yours. Good luck, especially with the er... Interesting photo. Baised attitude towards t series!

Automatic IP blocks

I noticed that only on the English Wikipedia, certain IP address that are in the range of cellular networks and schools are automatically blocked from editing due to fear of vandalism.
