Quality Through And Through?[edit]

Check the Ginsters Melton Mowbray packaging - the logo on it has been changed the the aformentioned title. Is this a wider change or a one-off product exception? Tried to take a photo of the new logo but the camera on my phone is crap incarnate. CitrusC 10:17, 9 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Train picture[edit]

I've added a picture of the a train in Ginsters advertising livery as there wasn't already a picture here and the trains are discussed in the article. It is not the best picture to lead the article with (it is cropped from a photo taken to illustrate Crewe station rather than the livery) so if someone can come up with another picture - e.g. of one of their products - then make the picture a bit smaller and move it down below the new one. Pronunciation[edit]

What is the definitive correct way to pronounce "Ginsters"? I have heard it with both a hard and a soft G. 143.252.80.110 16:16, 3 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have heard both but those using the hard G are the significant majority. I personally use the hard G, but I'm not in any way connected to the company or to Cornwall. Thryduulf 18:08, 3 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Ginst.jpg[edit]

Image:Ginst.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. Template change[edit]

I didn't understand why this used the "Infobox Defunct Company" template when the company doesn't appear to be defunct. I changed it to "Infobox company" - this seems to have worked OK but I hope that I have not wrecked some setup I didn't understand? Cheers, DBaK (talk) 01:21, 23 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

COI edits by Ginsters[edit]

Just so people are aware, 81.171.189.97 (talk · contribs · WHOIS) has recently made some edits to this article. Fair enough, although some of the edits may have been factually correct. For example, although the company was founded by Mr Ginster, the name is, so far as I can see, not spelled now with an apostrophe. Ghmyrtle (talk) 10:35, 1 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Seriously, there is none? Sheesh! OK I'm going to make a humble request to do justice to all the better Cornish pasties out there - Ginsters are horrible and always have been. Recent edits[edit]

We have a series of problems on this article. We have had recent promotional edits, either by Ginsters or people associated with them, which clearly should be reverted as WP:SPAM. But we currently have a version which refers to the "West Bromwich" origins of Mr Ginster - inserted by an IP in 2012 here - and again is unreferenced. The previous text, referring to Ginsters' Cornish origins, seems to me to be more likely to be supported by apparently independent sources, such as this, this, and this - though of course much of that material may have been produced by the company's PR people themselves. It's probably better in my view to go back to a very basic but properly sourced article, and remove all the dubious fluff and spam that is served up by the company itself. PS: Regarding the West Bromwich connection... Primary sources (birth and death records) suggest that Geoffrey Alexander Ginster was born in West Bromwich on 2 January 1918, and died in the Honiton area in 1990. According to the 1968 Yellow Pages, both Geoffrey A Ginster, and P.M. Ginster, lived at Little Tregue Farm, Polperro. These are not reliable sources per se, but give credence to the view that the Ginster family were perhaps not as Cornish as publicity suggests. Ghmyrtle (talk) 18:54, 29 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

According to his page at LinkedIn, someone called Steve Fearn is "Brand Engagement Manager at Ginsters" - suggesting that User:Stevefearn may have a clear conflict of interest and should not be editing this article. I've raised this at WP:COI/N. The main source used, a book called A Way of Life: The Business History of the Samworth Family, appears to be a company history commissioned by the parent company, and so there are also question marks over its reliability.
