Proposed merge of Tomato pie[edit]

Tomato pie primarily merely lists tomato dishes that can be characterized as pie. The concept, and the distinctions between "pie" as a synonym for pizza, and "pie" in the traditional sense, can better be worked out on this page. bd2412 T 17:15, 8 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I'm OK with this. @Valoem:? -Apocheir (talk) 19:52, 8 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment, I am 100% against any merge or redirect of Trenton tomato pie. Sources for that show it is distinctly notable. I am not sure what tomato pies other cultures besides East Coast USA and Italy refer to. Valoem talk contrib 16:27, 9 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
    • Is "a pie with tomatoes in other cultures" somehow not a tomato dish? As it stands, this is becoming more and more of a content fork, which is not allowed. Also, no one has suggested a merge or redirect of Trenton tomato pie here. I think you may be confusing a different merge discussion with this one. bd2412 T 16:32, 9 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Update, more sources referring to tomato pie as a "pie with tomatoes" not "Italian tomato pie", Out of Kentucky Kitchens (Green tomato pie) here are some sources I can't read, [1], 100 Essential pie recipes. @BD2412: someone did post a merge there Trenton tomato pie, I'll remove it. I think nominating "Italian tomato pie" for AfD as a merge tomato pie or Sicilian pizza is reasonable I am not sure if there are differences an AfD would bring a lot more people into the discussion. My search here and here, suggests Italian tomato pie does refer to "tomato pie" or "Sicilian pizza". Valoem talk contrib 16:40, 9 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
    • Can you point to any of these that are not tomato dishes? You seem to be arguing for a point that is irrelevant to the proposal. bd2412 T 16:42, 9 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
It appears I'm debating two people @Apocheir: wants to merge Italian tomato pie with Sicilian pizza, I disagree with that for now, but the two dish might be the same thing. I would Oppose redirect Tomato pie to List of tomato dishes, most people looking for information on tomato pies are probably looking for there most common references which is Sicilian pizza and/or Trenton tomato pie not tomato based dishes. Valoem talk contrib 16:49, 9 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Are you asserting that Sicilian pizza and/or "Trenton tomato pie" are not tomato dishes? bd2412 T 16:53, 9 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I am not saying that. I am saying when someone searches for "tomato pie" on Wikipedia, a majority of readers are not going to be looking for List of tomato dishes. Valoem talk contrib 16:59, 9 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
A majority of readers are not going to be looking for a disambiguation page, either, which is what they currently get. To me, this appears to be more of a WP:DABCONCEPT problem, since all of the matching topics on the page are foods that contain tomatoes and are referred to in some context as pie. I had initially tagged it as {{dabconcept}}, but figured that merging it up to the next higher level of abstraction was an easier fix. bd2412 T 17:45, 9 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose – The dab page appears to be performing its purpose functionally as-is. Surprisingly, it has received 721 page views in the last thirty days as of this post. I feel that the dab page makes it easier for readers to navigate, compared to having to navigate this longer list article. North America1000 17:57, 9 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. I'm from UK, but in the 1980s spent the best part of two years in U.S.A. and Canada. I had never heard of tomato pie until today (including Southern tomato pie - and most of my time in U.S.A. was in Alabama). If I'd heard about it somewhere other than Wiki, I would have found this DAB page the easiest way of finding the information I wanted. Narky Blert (talk) 12:44, 2 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
