Godavari Dam

Hello Sir!

I was trying to add geocode location of this subject dam, but couldn't find it anywhere on the map. Well... there is a fairly good chance that it hasn't been marked on map and hence isn't available. But i tried searching on http://india-wris.nrsc.gov.in also, but found none. (I don't know if the website is complete/reliable or not. But having looked at the data for various dams on it, i find it to be fairly reliable and good, if not best, source of information; well organized one.) However, on this website there is a Bhavali Dam which is close to Igatpuri and also built on Darna river; which is the basic description in our article. Of course, there are various dams near Igatpuri and various dams on the Darna river as well, best example being Darna Dam. Bhavali is also available on map. To name a dam "Godavari", after one of the most popular and important rivers of India, especially when it is not based on that river, sounds very odd to me. Do you think the Bhavali Dam is actually misnamed here as Godavari Dam? I have verified my documents of the Godavari Tribunal. There is no mention of this dam as Godavari dam. It is mentioned only in [1] and [2] gives a different name. May be the name of the dam has been changed recently. May be some some irrigation engineer near Igtadpur (if you know any one there) could clarify.--Nvvchar. 03:11, 6 March 2013 (UTC)

Well... going by the list Dams in Maharashtra which lists both Bhavali and Godavari Dam as two separate dams, there is a good chance that they exist and are different. • Over the years I have drifted towards sourcing articles from books with preview as far as possible, or journal articles, and trying to avoid websites because they often have errors. That naturally leads to the {{sfn|lastname|year|p=123}} style of citation, so each page referenced can be cited individually without repeating the book or journal details. It also moves the clutter of source definitions to the back of the article, and I think putting the sources in a separate alphabetical list gives a more professional appearance. Hello. I'm confused. The infobox for the Olakkanneshvara Temple article features this img: Mahishamardini Rock Cut Mandapa.jpg. The infobox also states that there's an alt name, Mahishasuramardini Cave Temple. The lead states that the Olakkanneshvara Temple is near the redlinked Mahishasura Cave Temple. We have an article on Mahishasuramardini mandapa. Are these all different buildings: Olakkanneshvara Temple, the Mahishasura Cave Temple, and the Mahishasuramardini mandapa? Also, I don't find one gbook-hit for the word Olakkanneshvara, which seems unusual; also none for Mahishasura Cave Temple. Membership report
The parent Christianity WikiProject currently has 357 active members. We would like to welcome our newest members, Thomas Cranmer, Mr.Oglesby, and Sneha Priscilla. Thank you all for your interest in this effort. We would be able to achieve nothing here without the input of all of you. If any members, new or not, wish any assistance, they should feel free to leave a message at the Christianity noticeboard or with me or other individual editors to request it.

From the Editor

We apologise for the hiatus in the publication of this newsletter due to unforseen circumstances leading to the wikibreak of John Carter, and so I have taken over as acting editor, and have taken this opportunity to move the publication date to the start of each month as planned, to better reflect on the previous month and look ahead to the next. This issue covers the period of time from mid-January to the end of March.

Since the last issue we have seen the resignation of Pope Benedict XVI and the election of Pope Francis. This has received much coverage both in the world media and on Wikipedia. While there is still much work to do, several quality articles have been written and the editors involved are thanked for their efforts.

This month we look ahead to Easter and the celebration of God's love for mankind through the crucifixion and resurrection of his Son Jesus Christ. With that, I wish you all happy reading!

Contest of the month
No particular contest this month. I am however getting rather close to getting together a more or less complete set of articles relating to different areas of Christianity which can be found in recent reference sources on the broad topic of Christianity, and about various subtopics, which I hope to have finished in the next few weeks. I wonder what the rest of you might think of, maybe, making the contests of future months be basically directed at filling in the gaps of our existing coverage of topics, like those topics given significant coverage in specialized reference works which we don't yet have content on, and giving the thanks, and rewards, whatever they might be, to those who create and develop such content. I am starting a discussion at Wikipedia talk:Christianity noticeboard#Future contests, and would very much welcome any input from interested parties in how to set it up, determine winners including how many winners, etc.

Jesus nahm zu sich die Zwölfe, BWV 22, a cantata by the German composer J.S. Bach, was promoted to GA this month and was written by Gerda Arendt. Many thanks for her continuing work in the area of early 18th Century Church music.

Spotlight

The Spotlight this month turns to the the Jesus work group. The scope of this project includes the life and teachings of the central figure of Christianity, Jesus Christ and aims to write about them in a non-denominational encylopædic style. Top-priority articles include Jesus, Christ, Resurrection of Jesus, and Holy Grail, whereas High-priority articles include Aramaic Language, a former FA, as well as Sermon on the Mount, Lamb of God, and Passion (Christianity). The workgroup has also published two books, covering Christ's final days and the Parables of Jesus. The workgroup has two GAs, Nativity scene, and Jesus in Islam, but unfortunately the flagship article, Jesus was delisted in 2009. It is also responsible for three WP:1.0 articles, and the WikiWork of the project is 4.56, which indicates the "average" article is between Start and C class.

This coming month (end-March through end-April) includes Easter Sunday in Western Christianity and both Lazarus Saturday and Palm Sunday for the Eastern Orthodox Church. Other major feasts in the next month include those of Saint George, Saint Mark the Evangelist, Saint Stanislaus, James, son of Zebedee, and Benedict the Moor.

The Candle Creek article and all the other Alaskan geo articles I've started up recently are based on PD material, verbatim and/or closely paraphrased, with appropriate attribution. No problem with that. The problem with the Candle Creek article is that it was nomed without re-working the verbatim and/or closely paraphrased PD material. I've started up a few more Alaskan geo articles in the same way, and want to do many more because there is so much PD material out there on geo features which interest me and don't have a presence on wikipedia. Me too!! I've been there twice, once in the winter and once in the summer. Beyond lovely! Inline Reference Format

I noticed that you've added references in a particular style, eg. from Aldabra . They aren't rendered in a way that I can understand what they refer to. Perhaps they are pointers to resources that you haven't finished putting in. Perhaps they need some adjustment in the syntax. Perhaps there's something going on that I don't understand. Could you help me understand in which direction these need to be adjusted? Thank you for the explanation. I see the convenience and expository clarity of being able to tag in multiple places, but only putting the detailed information in the Bibliography. Now that I understand what this tag means, I can decipher what the reference is to. There is still a style problem: the reference (and the resulting tool tip) hyperlink to the References section. The References section hyperlinks to the points where the tags are. Neither hyperlinks to the Bibliography.

By a bit of trial-and-error, I've made some adjustments that make the hyperlinks connect better. The main change was to make the Bibliography data use "last=Coe|first=Malcolm James" in place of the previous "author=" style. It seems like using the "page=" format for the in-line references allows the page to be shown properly.

If you get a chance to look over my changes, you might want to try these style adjustments in your future work. If, on the other hand, you don't agree that the new version is improved, please be so kind as to explain why you think so or point me to a reference that explains how these are intended to be used or how they work.--Wcoole (talk) 23:22, 9 April 2013 (UTC)

Wildlife of Vietnam isn't complete though. It has barely any prose about actual wildlife which is what the article is intended for and the fauna section is a big list not prose. Please, no rush. I'd rather it was well-written over time with a broader range of sources than just the national park website and tourism websites. Let that one pass and concentrate on the Protected areas article but I think I'd rather the effort went into expanding the stubs on the individual national parks. References for native Dysoxylum species of trees of the Indian subcontinent

G’day NVVChar from Australia,

thank you for your edits to Australian genera of the plant family Proteaceae, just now.

Please assist me with better reliable reference sources on Dysoxylum species of trees native to the Indian subcontinent, if possible.

I saw your interesting user page after those edits, including your interest in trees and massive WP experience.

I have massively expanded the Dysoxylum genus article recently but the sources i did find for species found naturally there leave a lot to be desired. The best information i got and wrote on the article was "India and Sri Lanka have about four recorded species." by indirect reference from the neighbouring region’s Flora Malesiana.

One assumes there are some good quality, reliable, (and scholarly?) sources for Indian and Sri Lankan flora. I could not find my way through the many different government flora and herbarium websites and also blog pages and so on, to the best sources.

Atiq Mosque (Awjila)

The best way to move this along is to do nothing. I know that is hard. But there are no outstanding issues, so it will not get dropped. The more complicated a DYK discussion looks, the less any reviewers want to get involved. The last line starts with , and says "Still needs a fresh review". Adding anything to that would just make it look more forbidding. It is getting near the top of the list of old nominations, so someone will get round to it eventually.

On the date question, 7th century is extraordinarily old for a mosque. Only a handful are that old, and they are famous. This is not one of them. But "atiq" means "old", and the mosque is certainly very old. The legend that the mosque dates back to the time when the Arabs brought Islam to the oasis is probably true in the sense that soon after they arrived they built a simple mosque where the present one stands. But the Arabs have never been very sentimental about old buildings. By the 12th century the original mosque was probably falling apart, and someone pulled it down and put up the fine mosque that stands there today. Aymatth2 (talk) 14:08, 17 April 2013 (UTC)

I found that rather rude Nvv, although I'm pretty sure it wasn't intentional, but it looked like you intentionally skirted the issue for whatever reason. Yes, our talk pages have been mutually exclusive but it has still been done in a haphazard way, having to shift through your or Rosie's talk pages. How am I supposed to remember all of those articles you've nominated for DYK and what exactly needs doing? I'm an organized guy, I'm pretty sure you are too. Having one place for our discussions and a place to monitor our work I thought you'd happily embrace. If you can list new expansions on this page at the bottom of the Current articles list with a date, we can keep track of the five day window and steadily work through them. I'm often guilty of not putting as much effort into our collaborations as I'd have liked, and the reason for that has been losing track of the sheer number of articles and what we're doing if I happen to be not so active for a few days.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 10:33, 23 April 2013 (UTC)

We're pretty loose editors and we don't feel this pressure to have to nominate everything we ever do for the sake of DYK. We write because we like to write. If anything I feel pressured by you urging us to rush articles just to meet the 5 day deadline and is one of the main reasons I've set this up so we are all well aware of how much time is left to edit and nominate. As an editor the first priority after expanding should be "is this readable, of a good quality" not "only one left to nominate for DYK". I get the impression you will not edit an article for anything other than DYK. If you feel we are goading you to overwork I strongly suggest you stop and take a long hard look at why you are here. You are under no obligation to make a single edit here, but we genuinely love having you around and we never thought you'd return to wikipedia.
