New Page Reviewer Newsletter

Hello Cameron11598, thank you for your efforts reviewing new pages!

Backlog update:

  • The new page backlog is currently at 12713 pages. Please consider reviewing even just a few pages each day! If everyone helps out, it will really put a dent in the backlog.
  • Currently the backlog stretches back to March and some pages in the backlog have passed the 90 day Google index point. Please consider reviewing some of them!

Outreach and Invitations:

  • If you know other editors with a good understanding of Wikipedia policy, invite them to join NPP by dropping the invitation template on their talk page with: {{subst:NPR invite}}. Adding more qualified reviewers will help with keeping the backlog manageable.

New Year New Page Review Drive

  • A backlog drive is planned for the start of the year, beginning on January 1st and running until the end of the month. Unique prizes will be given in tiers for both the total number of reviews made, as well as the longest 'streak' maintained.
  • Note: quality reviewing is extremely important, please do not sacrifice quality for quantity.

General project update:

  • ACTRIAL has resulted in a significant increase in the quality of new submissions, with noticeably fewer CSD, PROD, and BLPPROD candidates in the new page feed. However, the majority of the backlog still dates back to before ACTRIAL started, so consider reviewing articles from the middle or back of the backlog.
  • The NPP Browser can help you quickly find articles with topics that you prefer to review from within the backlog.
  • To keep up with the latest conversation on New Pages Patrol or to ask questions, you can go to Wikipedia talk:New pages patrol/Reviewers and add it to your watchlist.

New Years new page backlog drive

Hello Cameron11598, thank you for your efforts reviewing new pages!

Announcing the NPP New Year Backlog Drive!

We have done amazing work so far in December to reduce the New Pages Feed backlog by over 3000 articles! Now is the time to capitalise on our momentum and help eliminate the backlog!

The backlog drive will begin on January 1st and run until January 29th. Prize tiers and other info can be found HERE.

Awards will be given in tiers in two categories:

  • The total number of reviews completed for the month.
  • The minimum weekly total maintained for all four weeks of the backlog drive.

NOTE: It is extremely important that we focus on quality reviewing. Despite our goal of reducing the backlog as much as possible, please do not rush while reviewing.

Happy New Year, Cameron11598!

RfA

Sorry that it didn't turn out well (and for my mistake in the nom, which I should have caught). I think you would have made a fine sysop, and was proud to nominate you. If you decide to run for RfA again in the future, I am sure that there are many people who would support you. That Kudpung supported is a very good sign for the future, and I also encourage you to look at the advice Ad Orientem gave you. Both of them are editors I trust implicitly, and would be good people to reach out to for advice if you decide to run again in the future. Thank you for all that you do for the project. :) TonyBallioni (talk) 04:30, 2 January 2018 (UTC)

Just to add onto what TonyBallioni has already said, even though I opposed I think you're on your way to becoming an admin. Heed the advice from many people that said to become a bit more rounded in a few admin areas over the next 6-12 months and rerun. I ran into similar issues in my first RfA, too, so don't let it get you down! Cheers, Anarchyte (work | talk) 04:37, 2 January 2018 (UTC)
As per Anarchyte, who I am sure will vividly recall my votes on both his RfAs. Take consolation in the fact that actually several others of our very best admins also took two shots to get the mop. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 05:34, 2 January 2018 (UTC)
I came here for the same reason (and realised that I nominated Kudpung and co-nominated Anarchyte, so I guess I'm obliged to agree with them!). Please don't be disheartened. I think you're well on your way and could make an excellent admin given a little more time and experience. There's no shame in not making it on your first attempt. Feel free to drop me a note (publicly or privately) if you need anything or you want to talk about anything. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 23:00, 2 January 2018 (UTC)
Please don't be disheartened - Not all admins get the mop on their first try however as everyone's said above you'd make a great admin one day, I wish you all best, Thanks, –Davey2010 Merry Xmas / Happy New Year 23:43, 2 January 2018 (UTC)
Hey all ( @TonyBallioni:, @Anarchyte:, @Kudpung:, @HJ Mitchell: and @Davey2010: ) . First I'd like to thank all of you for the kind comments, and I guess I'll address each of you individually
  • Tony, mistakes happen this one was relatively minor and to be honest only one person took issue with it so don't sweat it. I'd like to thank you for your support and putting up with my case of nerves. As for Ad Orientem's advice I'll be sure to heed it. I'd like to thank both you and There'sNoTime for the nomination and support.
  • Anarchyte, Thanks for the kind words and I'll be sure to keep that advice in mind over the next year or so. \
  • Kudpung, Two shots isn't bad hopefully next time I'll have a resume that will be more impressive to the community, however in the mean time I think I'm going to try to channel my efforts into the WikiCup. I haven't had the time to do much content creation the last few months and kind of miss it, with what looks to be a relatively light semester (fingers crossed) at university I'm hoping to be able to crank out some solid GA's and a few Good Topics.
  • HJ Mitchell I do have to say your oppose appeared to be the nicest of the bunch, as for reaching out to you, I definitely will particularly when I finally decide to try to bring something up to FA status. I'll be honest the whole FA process seems a bit overwhelming to say the least.
  • Davey, while it may be a bit disheartening, I knew what I was getting into and won't let the RFA experience chase me away. I intend to use the feedback provided to be a more constructive member of the community. In the mean time like I said I think I'm going to go on a content creation grind, and try to do better in the WikiCup this year.
  • To everyone, thank you for the kind thoughts. Hope you are enjoying the new year so far. Happy editing! --Cameron11598 (Talk) 01:28, 3 January 2018 (UTC)
Happy new year to you too Anarchyte (work | talk) 02:53, 3 January 2018 (UTC)
By all means. Hit me up for advice on featured articles or RfA or anything else. And yes the FA process is daunting (to some extent, it's supposed to be) but I find navigating it to be about the most rewarding thing you can do on Wikipedia. All the best, HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 22:27, 3 January 2018 (UTC)

Oxford Reference access

Hi Cameron, I hope you're having a great vacation! When you're back, could you please check, if my account or password to Oxford Reference has expired? I can no longer log on. Thanks! — Kpalion(talk) 09:41, 3 January 2018 (UTC)

Hey Kpalion I'll check the spreadsheet on my laptop tonight and see when your access was set to expire. Just a heads up I might end up asking you to fill out a new request for access on the Library Card platform. --(Cameron11598's Alt Acct) (Converse) 00:19, 4 January 2018 (UTC)

hi

I recently applied for newspapers.com access, however, just noticed the profiler information page has an incorrect email address listed for me. I'm not really sure what the email address is as I don't have access to it (when I activated email on my Wikipedia account I must have had it saved in my clipboard for something else and pasted it in). Anyway, I've updated my email address through WP but I can't seem to do so through the platform page. Should I start a new application? Thanks and sorry for the hassle. Chetsford (talk) 22:28, 5 February 2018 (UTC)

@Chetsford: Was your application one of the ones I approved today? --Cameron11598 (Talk) 22:38, 5 February 2018 (UTC)
I don't believe so - would I have received a notification if it was? (If so, it might have been sent to the erroneous address?) Chetsford (talk) 22:57, 5 February 2018 (UTC)
Your account was Approved and sent yesterday. It was to the e-mail address you have associated with your Wikipedia account (or had associated at the time of application) can you send me an e-mail using Special:EmailUser/Cameron11598 with a good contact email listed in the body so I can have your account created properly. Thanks! --Cameron11598 (Talk) 16:16, 6 February 2018 (UTC)

New Page Reviewer Newsletter

Hello Cameron11598, thank you for your efforts in reviewing new pages!
The NPP backlog at the end of the drive with the number of unreviewed articles by creation date. Red is older than 90 days, orange is between 90 and 30 days old, and green is younger than 30 days.

Backlog update:

  • The new page backlog is currently at 3819 unreviewed articles, with a further 6660 unreviewed redirects.
  • We are very close to eliminating the backlog completely; please help by reviewing a few extra articles each day!

New Year Backlog Drive results:

  • We made massive progress during the recent four weeks of the NPP Backlog Drive, during which the backlog reduced by nearly six thousand articles and the length of the backlog by almost 3 months!

General project update:

  • ACTRIAL will end it's initial phase on the 14th of March. Our goal is to reduce the backlog significantly below the 90 day index point by the 14th of March. Please consider helping with this goal by reviewing a few additional pages a day.
  • Reviewing redirects is an important and necessary part of New Page Patrol. Please read the guideline on appropriate redirects for advice on reviewing redirects. Inappropriate redirects can be re-targeted or nominated for deletion at RfD.

Newspapers.com application

Hi Cameron, on February 17th I applied again for access to Newspapers.com. I'm just wondering about the status of this application, since it doesn't appear in the Latest Activity timeline on the Wikipedia Library Card Platform. Did I miss a step? Thanks, HazelAB (talk) 13:47, 25 February 2018 (UTC)

@HazelAB: I just processed applications last week and didn't see yours let me see if I missed it. --Cameron11598 (Talk) 23:04, 25 February 2018 (UTC)
Looks like I last processed them on the 16th. I'll try to get to it today if not tomorrow. --Cameron11598 (Talk) 23:06, 25 February 2018 (UTC)

Newspapers.com

Hi there - thanks for your message, and sorry about my delay. I have now verified my Newspapers.com account. Best wishes, Tacyarg (talk) 19:53, 28 February 2018 (UTC)

Answer for Cameron11598

Hello - I applied for the newspaper.com, but haven't understood the question you sent. I thought it was an announcement asking me to acknowledge by deleting part of the code - so sorry. Please clarify. Hannah Silverman (talk) 20:02, 28 February 2018 (UTC)

@Hannah Silverman:, I need you to verify that you have created a non-subscriber account (the link I sent you via email) and that you used the email address I sent that email to, on your Newspapers.com account. Please respond to the email I sent thanks! --Cameron11598 (Talk) 20:10, 28 February 2018 (UTC)

OUP

I tried to sign into my Oxford Reference account today and am receiving the message "This account has no valid subscription for this site." It worked yesterday, but not today. Is there something I need to do to extend my access, as it is a critical resource for me? SusunW (talk) 16:04, 22 February 2018 (UTC)

I should also add that it says I am signed in, but I cannot access any sources—they are all locked. SusunW (talk) 16:43, 22 February 2018 (UTC)
@SusunW: Can you send me an email with a screen shot of the error? Thanks! --Cameron11598 (Talk) 16:54, 22 February 2018 (UTC)
Sent it. 2 screen shots. One where I tried to access OUP directly and another where I linked through an article I wrote 2 days ago. Either way, it says my access doesn't exist??? SusunW (talk) 17:04, 22 February 2018 (UTC)
Yay! Thank you so much! I am back on line with OUP. I cannot express enough how important this reference is for my creation of articles and how much I appreciate your help in renewing my access. SusunW (talk) 14:10, 2 March 2018 (UTC)

Note

Hey Cameron. I just attempted to apply for OUP access. I'm not super tech savvy and there's probably a good chance I somehow did it wrongly. Also, as I noted in my application, my email is currently wonky and no one has so far figured out how to fix it. So feel free to drop me a line on wiki if I've screwed something up and I'll try to fix it. Much appreciated. GMGtalk 14:13, 2 March 2018 (UTC)

WikiCup 2018 March newsletter

And so ends the first round of the competition, with 4 points required to qualify for round 2. With 53 contestants qualifying, the groups for round 2 are slightly smaller than usual, with the two leaders from each group due to qualify for round 3 as well as the top sixteen remaining users.

Our top scorers in round 1 were:

  • United States Aoba47 led the field with a featured article, 8 good articles and 42 GARs, giving a total of 666 points.
  • Germany FrB.TG , a WikiCup newcomer, came next with 600 points, gained from a featured article and masses of bonus points.
  • India Ssven2, another WikiCup newcomer, was in third place with 403 points, garnered from a featured article, a featured list, a good article and twelve GARs.
  • United States Ceranthor, India Numerounovedant, Minnesota Carbrera, Netherlands Farang Rak Tham and Romania Cartoon network freak all had over 200 points, but like all the other contestants, now have to start again from scratch. A good achievement was the 193 GARs performed by WikiCup contestants, comparing very favourably with the 54 GAs they achieved.

Remember that any content promoted after the end of round 1 but before the start of round 2 can be claimed in round 2. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews.

If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to help keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! For JSTOR, all accounts should be automatically renewing, but if it seems as though your account has expired I'll drop them an email to check this. New Page Review Newsletter No.10

Hello Cameron11598, thank you for your work reviewing New Pages!

ACTRIAL:

  • ACTRIAL's six month experiment restricting new page creation to (auto)confirmed users ended on 14 March. As expected, a greatly increased number of unsuitable articles and candidates for deletion are showing up in the feed again, and the backlog has since increased already by ~30%. Please consider reviewing a few extra articles each day.

Paid editing

  • Now that ACTRIAL is inoperative pending discussion, please be sure to look for tell-tale signs of undisclosed paid editing. Contact the creator if appropriate, and submit the issue to WP:COIN if necessary.

Subject-specific notability guidelines

Nominate competent users for Autopatrolled

  • While patrolling articles, if you find an editor that is particularly competent at creating quality new articles, and that user has created more than 25 articles (rather than stubs), consider nominating them for the 'Autopatrolled' user right HERE.

News

  • The next issue Wikipedia's newspaper The Signpost has now been published after a long delay. There are some articles in it, including ACTRIAL wrap-up that will be of special interest to New Page Reviewers. Don't hesitate to contribute to the comments sections. The Signpost is one of the best ways to stay up date with news and new developments - please consider subscribing to it. All editors of Wikipedia and associated projects are welcome to submit articles on any topic for consideration by the The Signpost's editorial team for the next issue.

Renewal

How can I renew my access to Oxford Scholarship and Oxford Law? Just received an email that it would be expiring in a few days... Seraphim System (talk) 01:49, 5 April 2018 (UTC)

@Seraphim System: you can renew via the library card platform. You will need to do it 2 times, one for each platform. Sorry for the delayed response I'm traveling at the moment.--Cameron11598 (Talk) 16:41, 6 April 2018 (UTC)

Renewal

My newspapers.com subscription expired several months ago (I never received any notification). I tried to renew it about a week ago and although I saw one message that said "new subscriptions not available", my renewal request seemed to have been accepted (I saw it in "recent activity"). But I can't find it there anymore and want to know if I did it correctly and/or I can renew? Thanks. MB 15:54, 25 March 2018 (UTC)

@MB: That message was just there temporarily while we clarified how many accounts were left. Your renewal request is at [1] and hopefully Cameron will take a look at it soon :) Samwalton9 (WMF) (talk) 14:37, 26 March 2018 (UTC)

@MB: you've got mail. --Cameron11598 (Talk) 20:40, 26 March 2018 (UTC)
I answered the email about a week ago; over at Newspapers.com it still says I am not a subscriber. Did I miss something? MB 04:10, 3 April 2018 (UTC)
@MB: I've been traveling and internet has been spotty at best. I'll be home late tomorrow evening and will follow up then. --Cameron11598 (Talk) 16:49, 6 April 2018 (UTC)

WikiCup 2018 May newsletter

The second round of the 2018 WikiCup has now finished. Most contestants who advanced to the next round scored upwards of 100 points, but two with just 10 points managed to scrape through into round 3. Our top scorers in the last round were:

  • Scotland Cas Liber, our winner in 2016, with three featured articles
  • Republic of Texas Iazyges, with nine good articles and lots of bonus points
  • India Yashthepunisher, a first time contestant, with two featured lists
  • Cascadia (independence movement) SounderBruce, a finalist last year, with seventeen good topic articles
  • United States Usernameunique, a first time contestant, with fourteen DYKs
  • San Francisco Muboshgu, a seasoned competitor, with three ITNs and
  • South Carolina Courcelles, another first time contestant, with twenty-seven GARs

So far contestants have achieved twelve featured articles between them and a splendid 124 good articles. Commendably, 326 GARs have been completed during the course of the 2018 WikiCup, so the backlog of articles awaiting GA review has been reduced as a result of contestants' activities. As we enter the third round, remember that any content promoted after the end of round 2 but before the start of round 3 can be claimed in round 3. Remember too that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them. When doing GARs, please make sure that you check that all the GA criteria are fully met; most of the GARs are fine, but a few have been a bit skimpy.

If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article nominations, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed (remember to remove your listing when no longer required). Newspapers.com

Hey Cameron, you approved my request on April 16th and I received an email saying that I should hear back soon. I still haven't gotten access . Is there anything else I could do? Could you look into it? I appreciate your help! Thsmi002 (talk) 21:55, 26 April 2018 (UTC)
@Thsmi002: Your account should have been active since the 16th. Can you verify it hasn't been set up?--Cameron11598 (Talk) 19:42, 30 April 2018 (UTC)
I am not sure what happened earlier, but it is working now! Thanks for following up :) Cheers Thsmi002 (talk) 17:42, 4 May 2018 (UTC)

Newspapers.com question

[2] says "Newspapers.com requires that you sign up for an account before applying for access." Does this mean I need to sign up for a free trial on their site? If so, do I need to use the same email address as the one tied to my Wikipedia Library Card? Thanks. howcheng {chat} 16:45, 4 May 2018 (UTC)

@Howcheng: Correct, you need to register for a free account that is attached to your wikipedia email. --Cameron11598 (Talk) 03:10, 5 May 2018 (UTC)

Hi there, I'm pleased to inform you that I've begun reviewing the article Marshall Islands at the Olympics you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria. This process may take up to 7 days. Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments you might have during this period. Message delivered by Legobot, on behalf of Nova Crystallis -- Nova Crystallis (talk) 01:20, 8 May 2018 (UTC)

Can news press be deemed as proper references for a Wikipedia page? Because I have provided news press as references, and WP:GNG states that proper secondary references are those which has been reviewed by editors, and I suppose that news press has been reviewed by editors before they are being published. Jamesreadings (talk) 15:01, 12 May 2018 (UTC)

I'd suggest a reading of WP:NCORP and WP:NOTAD the article is solely being used as an advertising piece and that is not compatible with Wikipedia's mission. @Jamesreadings: please read those policies before resubmitting the article. --Cameron11598 (Talk) 15:08, 12 May 2018 (UTC)

Moved Comment placed in the wrong section

My comment beyond the Navy Experimental Diving Unit Years was deleted even though I left a link of Dr. Zumrick narrating this in his own words, here: https://tekdiveusa.com/speaker/john-zumrick/ — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rvbcave (talkcontribs) 18:26, 16 May 2018 (UTC)

@Rvbcave: okay, that would be a violation of our external links policy, the information needs to be typed and referenced. I'd recommend taking a look on our citation guidelines and external links policy. --Cameron11598 (Talk) 18:30, 16 May 2018 (UTC)

NPR Newsletter No.11 25 May 2018

Hello Cameron11598, thank you for your work reviewing New Pages!

ACTRIAL:

  • WP:ACREQ has been implemented. The flow at the feed has dropped back to the levels during the trial. However, the backlog is on the rise again so please consider reviewing a few extra articles each day; a backlog approaching 5,000 is still far too high. An effort is also needed to ensure that older unsuitable older pages at the back of the queue do not get automatically indexed for Google.

Deletion tags

  • Do bear in mind that articles in the feed showing the trash can icon may have been tagged by inexperienced or non NPR rights holders. They require your further verification.

Backlog drive:

  • A backlog drive will take place from 10 through 20 June. Check out our talk page at WT:NPR for more details. NOTE: It is extremely important that we focus on quality reviewing. Despite our goal of reducing the backlog as much as possible, please do not rush while reviewing.

Editathons

  • There will be a large increase in the number of editathons in June. Please be gentle with new pages that obviously come from good faith participants, especially articles from developing economies and ones about female subjects. Consider using the 'move to draft' tool rather than bluntly tagging articles that may have potential but which cannot yet reside in mainspace.

Paid editing - new policy

  • Now that ACTRIAL is ACREQ, please be sure to look for tell-tale signs of undisclosed paid editing. Contact the creator if appropriate, and submit the issue to WP:COIN if necessary. There is a new global WMF policy that requires paid editors to connect to their adverts.

Subject-specific notability guidelines

  • The box at the right contains each of the subject-specific notability guidelines, please review any that are relevant BEFORE nominating an article for deletion.
  • Reviewers are requested to familiarise themselves with the new version of the notability guidelines for organisations and companies.

Not English

  • A common issue: Pages not in English or poor, unattributed machine translations should not reside in main space even if they are stubs. Please ensure you are familiar with WP:NPPNE. Check in Google for the language and content, tag as required, then move to draft if they do have potential.

News

  • Development is underway by the WMF on upgrades to the New Pages Feed, in particular ORES features that will help to identify COPYVIOs, and more granular options for selecting articles to review.
  • The next issue of The Signpost has been published. The newspaper is one of the best ways to stay up to date with news and new developments. between our newsletters.

The article Marshall Islands at the Olympics you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:Marshall Islands at the Olympics for comments about the article. Well done! If the article has not already been on the main page as an "In the news" or "Did you know" item, you can nominate it to appear in Did you know. Request on 03:36:45, 8 June 2018 for assistance on AfC submission by Navysaylorgirl

Hi. I was hoping to get more clarification on why the page I submitted (Matthew Proman) was rejected. I obviously read what the rejection reasons were, but I'm still confused. First, I haven't been paid. Since the entry contains citations for just about every sentence, I don't understand how I'm not being neutral. I don't really understand how it deserves the "not a resume" comment either. This is an entry for a well-known (in his field) entrepreneur, who has started several successful companies -- one of which has its own Wikipedia entry, which I think meets the qualification of "notable.". As he no longer is associated with said company, (which is made evident in the entry) this entry clearly wasn't made for "advertisement purposes" either. Simply for informational purposes. I'd really appreciate some more in-depth feedback if you have the time. Thank You

Navysaylorgirl (talk) 03:36, 8 June 2018 (UTC)

@Navysalorgirl: thanks for reaching out to me. The article appear to come from a promotional tone. Articles about business men should be more than, they held this position they gave money to this person etc... take a look at O. D. Kobo for an article that stays relatively close to a NPOV and NOTRESUME tone. Additionally some of the sources you provide are from a PR website. That pretty much would fail our Reliable Source Policy. Let me know if you have further questions. I'm currently traveling and may have limited internet but will do my best to follow up with you. --Cameron11598 (Talk) 03:42, 11 June 2018 (UTC)

Cameron11598 appointed trainee clerk

The arbitration clerks are pleased to welcome Cameron11598 (talk · contribs) to the clerk team as a trainee!

The arbitration clerk team is often in need of new members, and any editor who would like to join the clerk team is welcome to apply by email to clerks-l@lists.wikimedia.org.

For the Arbitration Committee, Kevin (aka L235 · t · c) 01:23, 25 June 2018 (UTC)

Discuss this at: Wikipedia talk:Arbitration Committee/Noticeboard#Cameron11598 appointed trainee clerk

Hi Cameron11598. We have added you to the list of clerks and subscribed you to the mailing list (info: WP:AC/C#clerks-l). Welcome, and I look forward to working with you! To adjust your subscription options for the mailing list, see the link at mail:clerks-l. The mailing list works in the usual way, and the address to which new mailing list threads can be sent is clerks-l@lists.wikimedia.org. Useful reading for new clerks is the procedures page, WP:AC/C/P, but you will learn all the basic components of clerking on-the-job.

New clerks begin as a trainee, are listed as such at WP:AC/C#Personnel, and will remain so until they have learned all the aspects of the job. When you've finished training, which usually takes a couple of/a few months, then we'll propose to the Committee that you be made a full clerk. As a clerk, you'll need to check your e-mail regularly, as the mailing list is where the clerks co-ordinate (on-wiki co-ordination page also exists but is not used nearly as much). If you've any questions at any point of your traineeship, simply post to the mailing list.

Lastly, it might be useful if you enter your timezone into WP:AC/C#Personnel (in the same format as the other members have), so that we can estimate when we will have clerks available each day; this is, of course, at your discretion. Again, welcome! Regards, Kevin (aka L235 · t · c) 01:23, 25 June 2018 (UTC)

Thanks Kevin! I look forward to working with my fellow clerks and the members of the Arbitration Committee. --Cameron11598 (Talk) 01:25, 25 June 2018 (UTC)

Problem signing in

As long as I am not dropped from the program before you get back, I am content to wait. I remember you asking me for the email address I used to sign up, but I don't remember how I gave that to you.— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 18:40, 29 June 2018 (UTC)

I figured it out. There is a search function with the email address used to send your response to me. Unfortunately, I have three choices for folders with that address. I chose to use the address for one other purpose and I get lots of emails related to that other purpose. They pile up and I don't want to put them in the folder until I read them, and I don't go to this email address every day. I clicked on "New folder" when I found my email to you containing the email address. That did me a lot of good, as it has numerous emails in it already and it won't let me change the name of it. But I should remember next time I get time to go to newspapers.com.— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 19:03, 29 June 2018 (UTC)

WikiCup 2018 July newsletter

The third round of the 2018 WikiCup has now come to an end. The 16 users who made it to the fourth round had at least 227 points. Our top scorers in round 3 were:

  • South Carolina Courcelles, a first time contestant, with 1756 points, a tally built largely on 27 GAs related to the Olympics
  • Scotland Cas Liber, our winner in 2016, with two featured articles and three GAs on natural history and astronomy topics
  • Cascadia (independence movement) SounderBruce, a finalist last year, with a variety of submissions related to transport in the state of Washington

Contestants managed 7 featured articles, 4 featured lists, 120 good articles, 1 good topic, 124 DYK entries, 15 ITN entries, and 132 good article reviews. Over the course of the competition, contestants have completed 458 GA reviews, in comparison to 244 good articles submitted for review and promoted. As we enter the fourth round, remember that any content promoted after the end of round 3 but before the start of round 4 can be claimed in round 4. Please also remember that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them. When doing GARs, please make sure that you check that all the GA criteria are fully met. Please also remember that all submissions must meet core Wikipedia policies, regardless of the review process; several submissions, particularly in abstruse or technical areas, have needed additional work to make them completely verifiable.

If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article nominations, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed (remember to remove your listing when no longer required). Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! BLP issues on British politics - Off-wiki evidence

Thanks for your courtesy in letting me know about this Cameron. Please accept my apologies for any protocol violations; they are not intentional. A Wikipedia editor posted the link earlier too as I recall, on the request page for the case, so it might need redacting from there as well.

I posted the link for the convenience of workshop participants, two of whom had expressed scepticism about the claims I made based on evidence within it. I could post the document contents, because its contents are not untoward, but I feel that this would be unconstructive on account of its length.

Can I take it from the fact that you were directed by an arbitrator to redact the link that the document itself is securely in the hands of the Arbitration Committee? I understand that it was sent by email (not by me) but it might have been a victim of the committee's recent email outage. 121.72.182.187 (talk) 10:09, 8 July 2018 (UTC)

My suggestion would be to e-mail it to the committee if you would like to ensure they have access to the document. --Cameron11598 (Talk) 18:30, 8 July 2018 (UTC)

NPR Newsletter No.12 30 July 2018

Chart of the New Pages Patrol backlog for the past 6 months. (Purge)

Hello Cameron11598, thank you for your work reviewing New Pages!

June backlog drive

Overall the June backlog drive was a success, reducing the last 3,000 or so to below 500. However, as expected, 90% of the patrolling was done by less than 10% of reviewers.
Since the drive closed, the backlog has begun to rise sharply again and is back up to nearly 1,400 already. Please help reduce this total and keep it from raising further by reviewing some articles each day.

New technology, new rules
  • New features are shortly going to be added to the Special:NewPagesFeed which include a list of drafts for review, OTRS flags for COPYVIO, and more granular filter preferences. More details can be found at this page.
  • Probationary permissions: Now that PERM has been configured to allow expiry dates to all minor user rights, new NPR flag holders may sometimes be limited in the first instance to 6 months during which their work will be assessed for both quality and quantity of their reviews. This will allow admins to accord the right in borderline cases rather than make a flat out rejection.
  • Current reviewers who have had the flag for longer than 6 months but have not used the permissions since they were granted will have the flag removed, but may still request to have it granted again in the future, subject to the same probationary period, if they wish to become an active reviewer.
Editathons
  • Editathons will continue through August. Please be gentle with new pages that obviously come from good faith participants, especially articles from developing economies and ones about female subjects. Consider using the 'move to draft' tool rather than bluntly tagging articles that may have potential but which cannot yet reside in mainspace.
The Signpost
  • The next issue of the monthly magazine will be out soon. The newspaper is an excellent way to stay up to date with news and new developments between our newsletters. If you have special messages to be published, or if you would like to submit an article (one about NPR perhaps?), don't hesitate to contact the editorial team here.

WikiCup 2018 September newsletter

The fourth round of the 2018 WikiCup has now come to an end. The eight users who made it to the final round had to score a minimum of 422 points to qualify, with the top score in the round being 4869 points. The leaders in round 4 were:

  • South Carolina Courcelles scored a magnificent 4869 points, with 92 good articles on Olympics-related themes. Courcelles' bonus points alone exceeded the total score of any of the other contestants!
  • Hel, Poland Kees08 was second with 1155 points, including a high-scoring featured article for Neil Armstrong, two good topics and some Olympics-related good articles.
  • Scotland Cas Liber, with 1066 points, was in third place this round, with two featured articles and a good article, all on natural history topics.
  • Other contestants who qualified for the final round were Marshall Islands Nova Crystallis, Republic of Texas Iazyges, Cascadia (independence movement) SounderBruce, Wales Kosack and United States Ceranthor.

During round four, 6 featured articles and 164 good articles were promoted by WikiCup contestants, 13 articles were included in good topics and 143 good article reviews were performed. There were also 10 "in the news" contributions on the main page and 53 "did you knows". Congratulations to all who participated! It was a generally high-scoring and productive round and I think we can expect a highly competitive finish to the competition.

Remember that any content promoted after the end of round 4 but before the start of round 5 can be claimed in round 5. Remember too that you must claim your points within 10 days of "earning" them. If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. It would be helpful if this list could be cleared of any items no longer relevant. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck, and let the best editor win! NPR Newsletter No.13 18 September 2018

Hello Cameron11598, thank you for your work reviewing New Pages!

The New Page Feed currently has 2700 unreviewed articles, up from just 500 at the start of July. For a while we were falling behind by an average of about 40 articles per day, but we have stabilised more recently. Please review some articles from the back of the queue if you can (Sort by: 'Oldest' at Special:NewPagesFeed), as we are very close to having articles older than one month.

Project news
As part of this project, the feed will have some larger updates to functionality next month. Specifically, ORES predictions will be built in, which will automatically flag articles for potential issues such as vandalism or spam. Copyright violation detection will also be added to the new page feed. See the projects's talk page for more info.
Other
Moving to Draft and Page Mover
  • Some unsuitable new articles can be best reviewed by moving them to the draft space, but reviewers need to do this carefully and sparingly. It is most useful for topics that look like they might have promise, but where the article as written would be unlikely to survive AfD. If the article can be easily fixed, or if the only issue is a lack of sourcing that is easily accessible, tagging or adding sources yourself is preferable. If sources do not appear to be available and the topic does not appear to be notable, tagging for deletion is preferable (PROD/AfD/CSD as appropriate). See additional guidance at WP:DRAFTIFY.
  • If the user moves the draft back to mainspace, or recreates it in mainspace, please do not re-draftify the article (although swapping it to maintain the page history may be advisable in the case of copy-paste moves). AfC is optional except for editors with a clear conflict of interest.
  • Articles that have been created in contravention of our paid-editing-requirements or written from a blatant NPOV perspective, or by authors with a clear COI might also be draftified at discretion.
  • The best tool for draftification is User:Evad37/MoveToDraft.js(info). Kindly adapt the text in the dialogue-pop-up as necessary (the default can also be changed like this). Note that if you do not have the Page Mover userright, the redirect from main will be automatically tagged as CSD R2, but in some cases it might be better to make this a redirect to a different page instead.
  • The Page Mover userright can be useful for New Page Reviewers; occasionally page swapping is needed during NPR activities, and it helps avoid excessive R2 nominations which must be processed by admins. Note that the Page Mover userright has higher requirements than the NPR userright, and is generally given to users active at Requested Moves. Only reviewers who are very experienced and are also very active reviewers are likely to be granted it solely for NPP activities.
List of other useful scripts for New Page Reviewing

  • Twinkle provides a lot of the same functionality as the page curation tools, and some reviewers prefer to use the Twinkle tools for some/all tasks. It can be activated simply in the gadgets section of 'preferences'. There are also a lot of options available at the Twinkle preferences panel after you install the gadget.
  • In terms of other gadgets for NPR, HotCat is worth turning on. It allows you to easily add, remove, and change categories on a page, with name suggestions.
  • MoreMenu also adds a bunch of very useful links for diagnosing and fixing page issues.
  • User:Equazcion/ScriptInstaller.js(info): Installing scripts doesn't have to be complicated. Go to your common.js and copy importScript( 'User:Equazcion/ScriptInstaller.js' ); into an empty line, now you can install all other scripts with the click of a button from the script page! (Note you need to be at the ".js" page for the script for the install button to appear, not the information page)
  • User:TheJosh/Scripts/NewPagePatrol.js(info): Creates a scrolling new pages list at the left side of the page. You can change the number of pages shown by adding the following to the next line on your common.js page (immediately after the line importing this script): npp_num_pages=20; (Recommended 20, but you can use any number from 1 to 50).
  • User:Primefac/revdel.js(info): Is requesting revdel complicated and time consuming? This script helps simplify the process. Just have the Copyvio source URL and go to the history page and collect your diff IDs and you can drop them into the script Popups and it will create a revdel request for you.

  • User:Writ Keeper/Scripts/deletionFinder.js: Creates links next to the title of each page which show up if it has been previously deleted or nominated for deletion.
  • User:Evad37/rater.js(info): A fantastic tool for adding WikiProject templates to article talk pages. If you add: rater_autostartNamespaces = 0; to the next line on your common.js, the prompt will pop up automatically if a page has no Wikiproject templates on the talk page (note: this can be a bit annoying if you review redirects or dab pages commonly).

Wrong Arb case

Re this diff - was on ARBIPA - India-Pakistan and not ARBPIA (Palestine-Israel).Icewhiz (talk) 04:06, 7 October 2018 (UTC)

@Icewhiz: Thanks for catching that! My dyslexia seemed to have kicked in with the acronyms. Happy editing --Cameron11598 (Talk) 06:58, 7 October 2018 (UTC)
You left - [3] in. The filer wrote Palestine-Israel articles by mistake - but the whole thread is Pakistan-India. (whomever made the decision to name these PIA and IPA..... argh). Icewhiz (talk) 08:02, 7 October 2018 (UTC)

Unified Concept of Self Reality

Hi Samuel,

I would like some participation with a current work that is ready for community involvement.

I am sure importance can be placed on final approval and specific word placement and phrasing to be arbitrated to my discretion, to ensure that all liability and responsibility in consequence solely rests with my Self.

Please get in touch. I have a Dropbox link to a folder which is intended as read-only access, and I do expect my intent to be treated as such.

I should also add Cameron11598 that I can do this, and the world can be anew. I just need tools; my skill in language and et al is aural (pronounced oral). Everything I can offer is the result of only everything I have been given, and a triangle. I squirrel away in my room in my free time putting together in words, what I understand of others and myself between - when honesty, being a wagger is the source. I am the most responsible person and as the most responsible person, it's all my fault. No one else is to Blame. Thewolfde (talk) 13:25, 7 October 2018 (UTC)

@Thewolfde: Um, I'm sorry I'm a little lost what are we discussing here? --Cameron11598 (Talk) 22:15, 7 October 2018 (UTC)
FWIW Cam, I have no idea either. SQLQuery me! 22:23, 7 October 2018 (UTC)
I'd like to discuss a deployment strategy. If something changes the way people think, it's called discovery. Wikipedia is not a place for original research; my interpretation of OR is 'experimental results or observation'. Discovery, however can be innate requiring only slight illumination. I am compiling existing information in the world, for which there is only a single source. When structured appropriately, existing information does have renewed meaning and relevance (aka notoriety). The structure needs only point to a single source for ratification, the reader.
Consider everything you know, and allow for the possibility that a fundamental construct is absent.... I am slightly frustrated and I am using the English language, which is objectively agreed upon. Read closely from afar.

NPR Newsletter No.14 21 October 2018

Chart of the New Pages Patrol backlog for the past 6 months.

Hello Cameron11598, thank you for your work reviewing New Pages!

Backlog

As of 21 October 2018, there are 3650 unreviewed articles and the backlog now stretches back 51 days.

Community Wishlist Proposal
Project updates
  • ORES predictions are now built-in to the feed. These automatically predict the class of an article as well as whether it may be spam, vandalism, or an attack page, and can be filtered by these criteria now allowing reviewers to better target articles that they prefer to review.
  • There are now tools being tested to automatically detect copyright violations in the feed. This detector may not be accurate all the time, though, so it shouldn't be relied on 100% and will only start working on new revisions to pages, not older pages in the backlog.

NPR Newsletter No.15 16 November 2018

Chart of the New Pages Patrol backlog for the past 6 months.

Hello Cameron11598,

Community Wishlist Survey – NPP needs you – Vote NOW
  • Community Wishlist Voting takes place 16 to 30 November for the Page Curation and New Pages Feed improvements, and other software requests. The NPP community is hoping for a good turnout in support of the requests to Santa for the tools we need. This is very important as we have been asking the Foundation for these upgrades for 4 years.
If this proposal does not make it into the top ten, it is likely that the tools will be given no support at all for the foreseeable future. So please put in a vote today.
We are counting on significant support not only from our own ranks, but from everyone who is concerned with maintaining a Wikipedia that is free of vandalism, promotion, flagrant financial exploitation and other pollution.
With all 650 reviewers voting for these urgently needed improvements, our requests would be unlikely to fail. See also The Signpost Special report: 'NPP: This could be heaven or this could be hell for new users – and for the reviewers', and if you are not sure what the wish list is all about, take a sneak peek at an article in this month's upcoming issue of The Signpost which unfortunately due to staff holidays and an impending US holiday will probably not be published until after voting has closed.

ArbCom 2018 election voter message

Hello, Cameron11598. Voting in the 2018 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 3 December. All users who registered an account before Sunday, 28 October 2018, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Thursday, 1 November 2018 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2018 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:42, 19 November 2018 (UTC)

Newspapers.com

Hello, I have an account with Newspapers.com for a while now. It hasn't been expired ever and the renewal of my account doesn't seem to be a problem. I got access to Publisher Extra last year and have access to it consistently through my Wikipedia account. Now I still have access to the Newspapers.com site but not to newspapers which are Publisher Extra. Do you have any idea why this happened? A lot of my research requires me to look at newspaper articles that are beyond the 1920s and I need Publisher Extra to do that. Thanks. KAVEBEAR (talk) 02:20, 21 November 2018 (UTC)

Have you requested renewal via the Library Card Platform? If not please do so and I'll submit your renewal. --Cameron11598 (Talk) 02:37, 21 November 2018 (UTC)
Ping @KAVEBEAR: --Cameron11598 (Talk) 02:37, 21 November 2018 (UTC)
I don't know if that is the issue because I still access to the account but the extra stuff. But just in case it is, I just clicked renewed on the platform. Maybe that can fixed it. KAVEBEAR (talk) 02:40, 21 November 2018 (UTC)
I'll action your renewal this evening with the holiday you may not have access reissued until Monday. --Cameron11598 (Talk) 02:43, 21 November 2018 (UTC)

Question about your archiving

Hi, Cameron - why did you archive this case when activity was still ongoing? Atsme✍🏻📧 15:32, 25 November 2018 (UTC)

@Atsme: A member of the arbitration committee directed the thread be archived on the Clerks-L mailing list. --Cameron11598 (Talk) 18:07, 25 November 2018 (UTC)
Can you tell me which arb directed it? Atsme✍🏻📧 18:11, 25 November 2018 (UTC)
@Atsme: I'm not actually sure if I can, I've poked another clerk for clarification on that. --Cameron11598 (Talk) 18:16, 25 November 2018 (UTC)
Thank you, Cameron - I think it's extremely important considering the discussion was still live, and it involves clarification of an "out of process" action, rather than a dismissal of it. It's also during election time and this is information the community needs to know. Atsme✍🏻📧 18:19, 25 November 2018 (UTC)
@Atsme: I've sent your concerns to the Clerks-L list, I should hopefully be provided guidance on this; or an arb will respond directly. --Cameron11598 (Talk) 18:22, 25 November 2018 (UTC)
Thank you very much for your diligence. We truly need more editors like you! Atsme✍🏻📧 18:23, 25 November 2018 (UTC)

@Atsme: I've been advised by another clerk that I can disclose that it was Callanecc that gave the instructions to archive. --Cameron11598 (Talk) 20:01, 25 November 2018 (UTC)

Cameron - can I make a simple correction to a gaffe I made? I need to strike indemnity and put jeopardy, which is the correct word. I had just reviewed an insurance policy so it was fresh on my mind when I commented there; thus came indemnity instead of jeopardy. It just looks foolish...embarassing, in fact. Atsme✍🏻📧 19:16, 27 November 2018 (UTC)
@Atsme:, Yikes! I'm not too sure on that let me ping L235 and Miniapolis for guidance on this. --Cameron11598 (Talk) 19:22, 27 November 2018 (UTC)
😂 It's just a grammar correction. Atsme✍🏻📧 19:24, 27 November 2018 (UTC)
@Atsme: I know but I'm the new guy and still a trainee; generally I ask before doing something new ;) don't want to get in trouble for putting my hand in the cookie jar. --Cameron11598 (Talk) 19:36, 27 November 2018 (UTC)
No problem...Atsme✍🏻📧 19:43, 27 November 2018 (UTC)

() Seems okay to me, Atsme, as long as you strike through to preserve transparency. All the best, Miniapolis 20:49, 27 November 2018 (UTC)

Question re: Fred Bauder ArbCom case

Would you be comfortable using the table format for the voting summary? I find it very much easier to read and get a sense of where the case is currently at.

Archiving to a redlink?

Jayzus. Qwirkle (talk) 19:03, 5 December 2018 (UTC)

Ya know what I did @Qwirkle:, I copy pasted the actual web address instead of the page link and followed with double brackets instead of single brackets. A silly mistake but hopefully people understand or are able to make the connection but I'll post a null edit to do a new archive link. Regards, --Cameron11598 (Talk) 19:08, 5 December 2018 (UTC)
Thanks. Given some of the cloak-n-daggerism surrounding this motion, “able to find it” will look a bit suspicious; there already seem to be enough dubious lumps under the rug as it is. Qwirkle (talk) 19:18, 5 December 2018 (UTC)

Thanks. Good to see it; with luck, it might not be needed later. Qwirkle (talk) 03:20, 6 December 2018 (UTC)

@Seahawk01: Well your post had two issues which made it okay to redact the link; 1) you didn't have the consent of everyone involved to post the logs; 2)the post was technically a copyright violation as you didn't have a proper release for the statements made (this has been discussed by myself with an administrator in the past, tldr: Copyright law is confusing) --Cameron11598 (Talk) 02:38, 14 December 2018 (UTC)

NPR Newsletter No.16 15 December 2018

Hello Cameron11598,

Reviewer of the Year

This year's award for the Reviewer of the Year goes to Onel5969. Around on Wikipedia since 2011, their staggering number of 26,554 reviews over the past twelve months makes them, together with an additional total of 275,285 edits, one of Wikipedia's most prolific users.

Thanks are also extended for their work to JTtheOG (15,059 reviews), Boleyn (12,760 reviews), Cwmhiraeth (9,001 reviews), Semmendinger (8,440 reviews), PRehse (8,092 reviews), Arthistorian1977 (5,306 reviews), Abishe (4,153 reviews), Barkeep49 (4,016 reviews), and Elmidae (3,615 reviews).
Cwmhiraeth, Semmendinger, Barkeep49, and Elmidae have been New Page Reviewers for less than a year — Barkeep49 for only seven months, while Boleyn, with an edit count of 250,000 since she joined Wikipedia in 2008, has been a bastion of New Page Patrol for many years.

See also the list of top 100 reviewers.

Less good news, and an appeal for some help

The backlog is now approaching 5,000, and still rising. There are around 640 holders of the NPR flag, most of whom appear to be inactive. The 10% of the reviewers who do 90% of the work could do with some support especially as some of them are now taking a well deserved break.

Really good news - NPR wins the Community Wishlist Survey 2019

At #1 position, the Community Wishlist poll closed on 3 December with a resounding success for NPP, reminding the WMF and the volunteer communities just how critical NPP is to maintaining a clean encyclopedia and the need for improved tools to do it. A big 'thank you' to everyone who supported the NPP proposals. See the results.

Training video

Due to a number of changes having been made to the feed since this three-minute video was created, we have been asked by the WMF for feedback on the video with a view to getting it brought up to date to reflect the new features of the system. Please leave your comments here, particularly mentioning how helpful you find it for new reviewers.

Do you really want me to spend all my time defending myself like this? Why don't we just seek a consensus over the next week. I personally think it would be much better. Thanks Seahawk01 (talk) 03:08, 17 December 2018 (UTC)

What I'd like is for there to be a civil discussion making allegations like you have Seahawk01 is unacceptable. Please retract your statements or back them up in the form of diffs as required by policy. --Cameron11598(alt account) (Talk) 03:10, 17 December 2018 (UTC)
OK, but I feel just as attacked here. I can outline all the ways I feel attacked if you wish. Do you really want me to do that? Why not just have a civil discussion. Make a proposal in a new post on Wikipedia talk:IRC and let's leave the old thread behind. Seahawk01 (talk) 03:16, 17 December 2018 (UTC)
@Seahawk01: so you are refusing to redact your statements or provide diffs? Nothing in Jeske's statement was an attack. You however have accused him and others of bad faith without any evidence. --Cameron11598 (Talk) 03:19, 17 December 2018 (UTC)
I am not refusing to provide justification for what I said. If you require justification I posted under your post on Wikipedia talk:IRC that it will take me time. I do not have a lot of time to spend on Wikipedia and next week is very busy, so what you are requesting will take some effort on my part. Seahawk01 (talk) 03:22, 17 December 2018 (UTC)
@Seahawk01:, you had time to make the accusations. What I'm requesting takes approximately 5 minutes to verify your claims. Every statement made has been on that page. I see nothing that justifies your claims. --Cameron11598 (Talk) 03:25, 17 December 2018 (UTC)
Cameron11598 I would like to ask you not to question me about my time. First of all, talking to you here is taking up a lot of time. Second, it is very taxing for me to deal with all of this to begin with. Third, I am only on another hour tonight and have things to do next week. In fact, I really shouldn't be spending my time on this right now. Seahawk01 (talk) 03:29, 17 December 2018 (UTC)

Welcome to the 2019 WikiCup!

Hello and Happy New Year!

Welcome to the 2019 WikiCup, the competition begins today. If you have already joined, your submission page can be found here. If you have not yet signed up, you can add your name here and we will set up your submissions page. One important rule to remember is that only content on which you have completed significant work during 2019, and which you have nominated this year, is eligible for points in the competition, the judges will be checking! Any questions should be directed to one of the judges, or left on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup. Signups will close at the end of January, and the first round will end on 26 February; the 64 highest scorers at that time will make it to round 2. Good luck! Arb Case Count

Sorry to revert you, but myself, Joe, PMC, OR and MKDW all were a decline on this, so the count's 5, not 4. (GoldenRing and I discussed that earlier too with OR's comment.) RickinBaltimore (talk) 21:31, 7 March 2019 (UTC)

@RickinBaltimore: ha ha thats okay there is a reason my degree was in history instead of math ;) --Cameron11598 (Talk) 06:38, 8 March 2019 (UTC)

NPR Newsletter No.17

Hello Cameron11598,

News
Discussions of interest
  • Two elements of CSD G6 have been split into their own criteria: R4 for redirects in the "File:" namespace with the same name as a file or redirect at Wikimedia Commons (Discussion), and G14 for disambiguation pages which disambiguate zero pages, or have "(disambiguation)" in the title but disambiguate a single page (Discussion).
  • {{db-blankdraft}} was merged into G13 (Discussion)
  • A discussion recently closed with no consensus on whether to create a subject-specific notability guideline for theatrical plays.
  • There is an ongoing discussion on a proposal to create subject-specific notability guidelines for chemicals and organism taxa.
Reminders
  • NPR is not a binary keep / delete process. In many cases a redirect may be appropriate. The deletion policy and its associated guideline clearly emphasise that not all unsuitable articles must be deleted. Redirects are not contentious. See a classic example of the templates to use. More templates are listed at the R template index. Reviewers who are not aware, do please take this into consideration before PROD, CSD, and especially AfD because not even all admins are aware of such policies, and many NAC do not have a full knowledge of them.
NPP Tools Report
  • Superlinks – allows you to check an article's history, logs, talk page, NPP flowchart (on unpatrolled pages) and more without navigating away from the article itself.
  • copyvio-check – automatically checks the copyvio percentage of new pages in the background and displays this info with a link to the report in the 'info' panel of the Page curation toolbar.
  • The NPP flowchart now has clickable hyperlinks.

Grove's

I asked at Wikipedia talk:The Wikipedia Library, probably the wrong place, how to contact a Wikipedian with access to Grove's Dictionary? I think asking you might be a better approach! I am trying to find a date of death for pianist August Frederick Ferdinand Hyllested, born 1858. There was an article on him in Grove's Dictionary of Music and Musicians (Supplement, 1922, vol VI), when he was apparently still living. I would like to locate an article in subsequent editions of Grove's that gives a death date? - Nunh-huh 20:39, 18 March 2019 (UTC)

@Nunh-huh: my suggestion would be to check out the WP:Resource exchange. --Cameron11598 (Talk) 06:13, 19 March 2019 (UTC)
Thanks for steering me in the right direction! - Nunh-huh 19:12, 19 March 2019 (UTC)

WikiCup 2019 May newsletter

The second round of the 2019 WikiCup has now finished. Contestants needed to scored 32 points to advance into round 3. Our top four scorers in round 2 all scored over 400 points and were:

  • Scotland Cas Liber (1210), our winner in 2016, with two featured articles and three DYKs. He also made good use of the bonus points available, more than doubling his score by choosing appropriate articles to work on.
  • Wales Kosack (750), last year's runner up, with an FA, a GA, two FLs, and five DYKs.
  • Adam Cuerden (480), a WikiCup veteran, with 16 featured pictures, mostly restorations.
  • Kingdom of Prussia Zwerg Nase (461), a seasoned competitor, with a FA, a GA and an ITN item.

Other notable performances were put in by Chicago Barkeep49 with six GAs, United States Ceranthor, England Lee Vilenski, and Saskatchewan Canada Hky, each with seven GARs, and Denmark MPJ-DK with a seven item GT.

So far contestants have achieved nine featured articles between them and a splendid 80 good articles. Commendably, 227 GARs have been completed during the course of the 2019 WikiCup, so the backlog of articles awaiting GA review has been reduced as a result of contestants' activities. The judges are pleased with the thorough GARs that are being performed, and have hardly had to reject any. As we enter the third round, remember that any content promoted after the end of round 2 but before the start of round 3 can be claimed in round 3. Remember too that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them.

Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Regarding the recent ArbComm messages

Regarding the recent ArbComm messages related to my adminship, what exactly do I need to do now? JIP | Talk 22:36, 5 May 2019 (UTC)

@JIP: just make sure you are following best practices to keep your account secure. Enabling 2FA is optional, but having unique strong passwords is something that should be practiced. I hope this clarifies any questions you may have had. Feel free to let me know if you have any more questions. --Cameron11598 (Talk) 22:42, 5 May 2019 (UTC)

Newspapers.com

Hi. I have been applying for a renewal of my Newspapers.com account for the last two months, but I keep receiving an email that my application is incomplete because I did not sign up for a Newspaper.com account (which of course I have, since it is a renewal). I have sent two emails before with my account information, and just sent a third one in response to your email. I know you say email you above, but I am not sure that my emails are getting through. Perhaps they are going to your spam filter? Thanks. Canadian Paul 20:48, 16 May 2019 (UTC)

Hi Paul, look like you did indeed get eaten by my mail service's spam filtering. Not sure why... I'll send your account for renewal in the next hour or so. --Cameron11598 (Talk) 20:53, 16 May 2019 (UTC)
Hi @Canadian Paul: I've forwarded your account info onto newspapers.com they should have it active sometime today or tomorrow depending on their workload. I'll shoot you an email when I hear from them. --Cameron11598 (Talk) 21:00, 16 May 2019 (UTC)
Great, thanks (just in case my email thanks doesn't get through, haha)! Canadian Paul 21:05, 16 May 2019 (UTC)
