Template:Mfd/doc&action

Chzz, I don't understand what to do at Template:Mfd/doc&action=edit . "...follow the redlink and add to create a 'Miscellany for deletion sub-page'." is what's wrong but I don't know how to fix it.

think it should say something like "... follow this redlink: redlink and there add to create a 'Miscellany for deletion sub-page.' - but I looked at mfd2 and could not see where to change this. kcylsnavS{screechharrass} 04:21, 30 May 2010 (UTC)
It's on this page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Mfd in the red box below the separator line, where it starts off with "Maintenance use only." It says, "Then subst to create the discussion subpage," subst it WHERE? kcylsnavS{screechharrass} 04:32, 30 May 2010 (UTC)

The instructions say;

1. Add mfd to the page you are nominating. 2.After saving the page, follow the redlink and add to create a 'Miscellany for deletion sub-page'.

What that means is, that if you edit a page and place mfd at the top, it will have a message box which says,

Note to onlookers: The above is a sample, this page is not listed in MFD (I hope!)

Clicking on the red link "this page's entry" will edit the listing page - and that is where you need to subst the mfd2 template, to create the listing. Then,

3. Finally, go to Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion and subst .

This adds the listing to the currently listed MFD's.

I hope this clarifies; as it says, "See MFD How-to for full instructions". Best,  Chzz  ►  13:13, 30 May 2010 (UTC)

It does, but now I sure would like to see three changes:
 1. On the instructions, change "follow the redlink" to "follow the redlink under 'this page's entry' which will appear on the subst'd template"
 2. On the subst'd template itself, change "subst to create the discussion subpage" to "subst on _______?_______ to create the discussion subpage"
 3. Increase the size of the font below the separator bar.
Chzz, I am literal, perhaps overly so, when I try to follow technical instrutions. When I was 17 and attempting to learn QBASIC on our TRS80 I did everything could to follow the instructions exactly, and when the instructions gave an example of function(string) I dutifully entered function(foo birds fly fast)... and it never worked. I tore the book apart and finally gave up in frustration. Nowhere did the book give an example or any clue at all to indicate the requirement of quotation marks to deliminate the string! So when the instructions say "follow the redlink," I ask, "What redlink?" and when the instructions say "Then subst X," I ask subst X where?
I can change the documentation page, will do so shortly, but I can't change the template code. I hope the above makes sense. kcylsnavS{screechharrass} 14:05, 30 May 2010 (UTC)
I understand perfectly. Interesting to note that strings are often called String literals :-)
I'm glad you are boldly fixing it - great. Re. the template itself - please just put a section on Template talk:Mfd with editprotected at the top, and it will be processed by a SysOp.
Hope to maybe see you on IRC again. Cheers,  Chzz  ►  14:38, 30 May 2010 (UTC)

Earlier help on IRC

Hello Chzz! I do not know if you remember but for some days ago you helped me on IRC with a problem with the Nobel Prize article (the discussion is located on Wikipedia:Peer review/Nobel Prize/archive2. The problem was (and is) a paragraph which one editor protects but me and two others do not consider good or notable enough for a hopefully-soon-to-be-FA. I listed it at WP:RFC to help getting consensus but no help have come. Meanwhile I feel the discussion has gotten more and more out of hand, the protective editor more and more aggressive. I am not really sure what to do any more, but you said I could contact you if I needed more help. Can you help me? Cheers, Esuzu (talkcontribs) 15:03, 30 May 2010 (UTC)

Thank you very much! I promise to tell you if the situation changes. Esuzu (talkcontribs) 18:40, 30 May 2010 (UTC)

Understood. I had no way of knowing at the time that the article had gone through the deletion process before, as it had no talk page. ~BLM (talk) 00:02, 31 May 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the message about the feedback page. I tried to "pop in and say hello" on the chat thing you described, but I have no understanding of how it works so I gave up. Morning!

I added another bullet point to MovedtoMainspace about "adding links to your new article" and linked WP:Orphan. Just getting a third opinion that it's okay ^_^ Regards, Captain n00dle\Talk 09:18, 1 June 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, good idea; I tweaked it a bit, as I prefer links within the actual text to e.g. see here. Change back if you disagree, not that fussed on it.  Chzz  ►  07:04, 2 June 2010 (UTC)

Feedback needed on feedback idea

To GB fan,Fetchcomms, Chzz and Captain-n00dle

I'd like some feedback on a thought I have to address most of the remaining items in Category:Requests to move a userspace draft. I could be bold and just do it, but I'd like some reaction from some of the more experienced contributors to Requests for feedback.

As background, I stumbled across the Category about three weeks ago. It contained 242 requests, some going back to November. (This discovery is what prompted me to work on a proposal for a Feedback Patrol.) I've been working on cleaning out the backlog, and have it under 75 at the moment. The good news is that over 170 have been addressed, either by moving when appropriate, or a message to the editor when substantial work is needed prior to a move. The bad news is that I worked on the list with a triage mentality, moving the ones that were in good shape, sending a notice to the ones that were in very bad shape, and passing on ones where I wasn't quite sure how to respond, so the ones left are a little trickier than the ones I've processed.

In many cases, the ones left have some promise, but need some attention regarding notability and other issues. However, in many cases, the request is quite dated. If the editors last edit is a few months old, I don't see it as a good use of resources to spend time assessing notability if the editor is no longer interested in contributing. (Obviously, if you read the draft and want to work on it personally, you can and should, but in many cases, if the original editor isn't going to help, there's not much point in working on it.)

My suggestion is to pick a cutoff date, say one month, and if there have been no edits within the last month, send a note to the editor and ask if they are still interested. (Anything more recent should be addressed on an individual basis.)

Sample message:

You asked that userspace draft be moved into article space. We apologize for the extreme delay in responding to this request. We believe there are some issues that need to be addressed before moving this draft, however, we would like to make sure you are still interested in working on this before we review it in detail. In the mean time, we will remove the move draft request. Please respond if you want the review completed, either by replacing the move draft template, by posting a note at my talk page, or by posting a request at Requests for feedback.

Hi there! Can you please just clarify and confirm - I think from the above, you would like me to send that message out to the list of people given - in fact, I'm pretty sure, but I like to be totally clear - so if that is your request, please just confirm below. Quite happy to send them out for you - I just wanted to double-check that was your intent. Thanks,  Chzz  ►  13:21, 3 June 2010 (UTC)
Sorry, I should have been clearer. Yes, that was meant for Chzzbot to deliver. I'll be having notifications to be delivered every now and then, is it ok if I just post the link here whenever I need them delivered?... or how should I go about it? BejinhanTalk 03:25, 4 June 2010 (UTC)

Moving to AfC

I remember agreeing to the wording in User:Chzz/test, but if I signed up for carrying out such notices, I missed it. Great job on cleaning up what was a mess, but I do think that if an article is moved to AfC, the original editor should get a notice. I think that is best done by whomever does the moving. (I'll copy Earwig.) I haven't checked all the example, but I did check one example, and I don't see that User:Acklis was notified.--SPhilbrickT 16:09, 3 June 2010 (UTC)

Entirely my fault; I said that I would notify them. Initially, the bot was not logging the moves...and, I will. I got side-tracked with many things - partly, making sure that the AFCs were being processed well. Phil, many were not; if you could check some, that would be great. It's been good to get assistance in AFC, but some users not so used to the process are a bit keen to decline before trying hard to fix; I've recovered a few, sometimes several times - e.g. [1].
I will, right now, make sure all the users with 'moved AFCs' have appropriate notifications; the template might or might not be appropriate, as many have already been either created or rejected.  Doing...  Chzz  ►  16:21, 3 June 2010 (UTC)
I will try to check some, but I'm struggling with a May date for a deliverable. Later.--SPhilbrickT 16:26, 3 June 2010 (UTC)
Just spamming out that template to inform them is not going to work; we're gonna need to check every one.
I just copied over Earwig's listing, to User:Chzz/draftmovethingy - planning to look through them, and put the note on their talk, as planned; however, even the first one needs investigation; from a quick look at User:Jkjacobs/Desmond_MacNamara it appears to me that it does show a claim-to-fame, and actually needs work to fix up.
It was declined by Smoozle, two mins after marking it as being reviewed - saying that it "doesn't sufficiently explain the importance or significance" etc, and asking the user to improve the referencing. However, the user has not contributed since Jan.
I'm worried; I know we have to be careful with BLPs etc, but... we're going to just lose an awful lot of well-intentioned submissions this way. I suspect that there are many more such examples.
I can, and of course will, attempt to rectify them. It might take some time, of course. I don't know if it is best to inform all users with a template (as originally planned), because if said user talks already have e.g. a rejection or hold message orwhatever, it isn't appropriate. It needs individual attention.
To be honest, this is probably an even bigger problem; I'm sure that lots of AFCs have been rejected, which otherwise could have been fixed up. Mind you, lots of CSDs aren't appropriate either.
I do my best to fix things, but...there is only one of me. (Contrary to some rumours).
Earwig, is that a comprehensive list of all moved pages, or are there others not logged?  Chzz  ►  17:07, 3 June 2010 (UTC)
As I typed that, someone declined Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/infosearchbpo as ad, which it isn't - it lacks sources; also, Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Marriage Events in Arya Vysyas was declined with the reasoning that "It already exists, as Marriage" - also, not a valid reasoning. I can't keep up. \o/  Chzz  ►  17:24, 3 June 2010 (UTC)

Runglish

Please read what existed before Runglish (disambiguation). http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Runglish&action=historysubmit&diff=366303330&oldid=366280158 Three articles in one. That must be disambiguated. HaŋaRoa (talk) 03:36, 6 June 2010 (UTC)

I understand, but, in doing so you are creating an article which has only one referenced bit of info - and that info is already covered in the article. The other two parts lack references, so do not belong on Wikipedia.
In making the redirect, the burden of evidence lies with you; if you are not able to appropriately source the facts to create a valid article, then it should be a redirect.
I will remove the PROD tag for now, and check back on it later. Personally, I think it should just be a redirect - simply, per WP:V.  Chzz  ►  03:39, 6 June 2010 (UTC)
Please read http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Runglish&action=historysubmit&diff=366303330&oldid=366280158 I think you didn't read it, because you mention I created unreferenced information; I just moved it. On the other hand, Runglish (disambiguation) redirects to two different articles. That cannot be implemented with #REDIRECT. HaŋaRoa (talk) 03:46, 6 June 2010 (UTC)

I did, indeed, note where you copied the text from. The problem is, The burden of evidence lies with the editor who adds or restores material.WP:BURDEN - it does not matter if it came from another article; you created the page.
Currently, it consists of a redirect to Runglish (which is fine), but also some unreferenced information and a link to Volapuk encoding, and that article makes no mention of the term. Per WP:DABSTYLE, each section should link to an article.
Nevertheless, as I said, I have removed the tag for now.  Chzz  ►  04:11, 6 June 2010 (UTC)

Troutman update

Hi Chzz,

Since no one else seems to be happening, would you please take action on my suggestion?

Thank you, --Burkeguy (talk) 17:22, 2 June 2010 (UTC)

I certainly will, as soon as time permits. We have so many backlogs; I wonder, perhaps you could help out a little? Thus far, you have only edited that single article. Could you, perhaps, take a look at e.g. Category:Unreviewed new articles created via the Article Wizard from May 2010 where we have many other articles needing attention? After all of the help with Kathryn Troutman, I am confident that you would be able to improve some other articles - and that is the way Wikipedia works; we all help each other. So if you could help out, it would be greatly appreciated. This would also prevent problems with claims that you have a Single-purpose account. Thank you in anticipation,  Chzz  ►  17:36, 2 June 2010 (UTC)

Questions

Oh ever-helpful WP-guru, how can I force User wikiprayer to be on the right of a page?

In the absence of know-how, I'm left with this.

Also, why doesn't this work: User:Trafford09&diff=366169460&oldid=366116811  ?

Can't diffs be put in  ?

Also, is there html for <tab>, like <nbsp>, or can you say use <nbsp6> ? Cheers, Trafford09 (talk) 09:58, 7 June 2010 (UTC)

Eep, I am allergic to userboxen, and you mentioned the unmentionable t*b-word!
Tabs are horrible; they behave differently on different systems. As with any kind of fancy formatting, you might end up with something that looks good on your system, a bit rubbish on someone elses, and that breaks completely on e.g. mobile device. Another major consideration should be accessibility - pages should be easily navigable by e.g. people with screen-readers (blind), etc.
Having said that...anything can be done; I leave it as an exercise for the reader as to whether or not it should be. So, to answer your questions;

1. Alignment of userbox on right;

One option - using userboxtop

User wikiprayer
userboxbottom

The courage to edit the pages I can,

See Help:Table

...other options include the use of 'Div'.

2. DIFF links;

Diffs cannot be wikilinked; you have to use external linking - e.g. something = something.

You can put a span around it to suppress the 'external link' icon; <span class="plainlinks">something</span> = something

3. Non-breaking spaces;

You should use &nbsp; for these. You can use spaces for several, e.g.

6This text is indented by 6 non-breaking spaces.

This text is indented by 6 non-breaking spaces.

But remember: unless you have a very good reason not to, keep it simple!  Chzz  ►  10:57, 7 June 2010 (UTC)

Many thanks, Chzz. I will away and experiment. Trafford09 (talk) 11:16, 7 June 2010 (UTC)

My largest edit got caught by the 2 tags you added.

That's helpful, I'll think how best to use it

Thanks for creating the list at User:Chzz/feed. I had started looking for a couple manually, became convinced it was worth identifying them but a fair amount of work to do manually. I share your thought that we should not approach them in an automated way. Let me give it a bit of thought - one thing I might do is check them out and identify areas of interest. For example, the recent request User:ScienceRulz2012/Crizotinib is fairly specialized, so I tracked down a couple small cell cancer experts, here and here. If I had a list of specialists, we could use them for specific articles. If they don't appear to be specialists, we might just ask them to help generally, but I'd like to write a custom message. --SPhilbrickT 23:40, 8 June 2010 (UTC)

Definitely a worthwhile thing to look at. SPhilbrick, stwalkerster (talk · contribs) helped me to create that query, and I've just thanked them in Wikipedia:A nice cup of tea and a sit down#June 2010 and you might like to add a comment there.
Please let me know if I can help with it; otherwise, I will leave that particular mission to you.
I am also working on the FEED/transclusion thingy; not ready yet, but the work-in-progess demo of the idea is in User:Chzz/Wikipedia:Requests for feedback. I'm hoping to get the demo in order during the next week, then showing others (especially you) to seek opinion, before making it live. I'm working on making it automatically transclude the past 'n' days, and noting the 'oldest outstanding requests' at the top, and other things. I will work to improve it, before making the suggestion (on the FEED talk page) ASAP.  Chzz  ►  23:59, 8 June 2010 (UTC)

Vertical alignment

Me again (shock). Now, I have this table: User:Trafford09/test-table, which I've created solely in order to force (so I hoped) each of the 5 rows to line up with each other, even though of course the text lines are single lines, whereas the symbols are more than one text-line's height.

Should the Table approach work? If so, how, and also how could I force gridlines to appear? (i.e. horiz. line after each row.)

Also, is there a better approach to using a table? I did try putting clear after each WP icon, but that gave me oodles of whitespace (which I know you don't like!). Ta muchly, Trafford09 (talk) 00:00, 9 June 2010 (UTC)

Furthermore, do you know any way of storing a segment of html (e.g. ) in some placeholder like &REG1, then using &REG1 multiple times? Trafford09 (talk) 00:40, 9 June 2010 (UTC)

Use |- for each new row, and || between columns; See here - I think that was your intention?
To put something many times, just make a subpage and transclude it - e.g. I just made User:Chzz/dykicon containing the code you gave above, so if I put anywhere, from now on, it produces that icon, e.g. Did You Know Did You Know Did You Know etc.  Chzz  ►  00:55, 9 June 2010 (UTC)

Image sizes

Is there a guideline on image sizes? E.g., what about this edit? Trafford09 (talk) 10:15, 9 June 2010 (UTC)

Size should not be specified unless there is a very good reason to do so. The size of default thumb'd images can be set by the user in their own preferences - and we like users to be able to set things their own way. See WP:MOSIMAGES and related guidance.  Chzz  ►  14:43, 10 June 2010 (UTC)

Table manners

[T9] Where was I going wrong with this? Trafford09 (talk) 12:33, 9 June 2010 (UTC)

For some reason, you 'closed' the table early, with a |}. Also, you didn't put the | at the start of all rows. See this edit. Chzz  ►  14:51, 10 June 2010 (UTC)

Ah, I see. I don't think I registered, before, that it needed the | at the start of all rows. Thanks, Trafford09 (talk) 15:01, 10 June 2010 (UTC)

Question

Chzz

I forgot to ask in my last message . . . how do you classify a page as "start class" etc. You eluded to this in your message to me, but I'm not quite sure how it's done.

Thanks!

ScienceRulz2012 (talk) 05:17, 10 June 2010 (UTC)

First, you need to make sure the talk page of the article in question has a WikiProject "banner" on it (an example banner would be WikiProject United Kingdom). To "assess" the article (change its importance and class values within the WikiProject's scope), the code would be something like:

That creates:
WikiProject iconUnited Kingdom NA‑class Low‑importance
WikiProject iconThis article is within the scope of WikiProject United Kingdom, a collaborative effort to improve the coverage of the United Kingdom on Wikipedia. If you would like to participate, please visit the project page, where you can join the discussion and see a list of open tasks.
NAThis article has been rated as NA-class on Wikipedia's content assessment scale.
LowThis article has been rated as Low-importance on the project's importance scale.
Generally, there are the stub, start, C, B, A, GA, FA classes (the last two require a review first; they can't be arbitrarily changed). The importance levels are low, med, high, top. Hope this helps, fetch·comms 13:42, 10 June 2010 (UTC)
ScienceRulz2012, The above is great advice, but as it might be a bit daunting to implement, I have tried to do it for you. I'm assuming the article in question is Crizotinib.
I have just created the talk page for it, and put it into two wikiprojects that I believe are appropriate - WikiProject Molecular and Cellular Biology and WikiProject Pharmacology. I gave initial settings as "start class" and "low" on the projects importance scales. I did that with this edit.
I have also asked on the talk pages of both those projects, for them to look at the article and consider assessment - please see here and here.
They are most likely to comment on the articles talk page, Talk:Crizotinib, so please check on that page over the next few days. Best,  Chzz  ►  16:29, 10 June 2010 (UTC)

I would move it myself, however there is already an existing title of it. The article is Daniel Jonas (Days of our Lives), I want it to be just Daniel Jonas.  Doing...

A Report

Two furrther good articles. But also wondering about teh article about me which you helped with back in December

To: Chzz From: Howard Z

It has been a while since talking with you. I can report that I have two further (after the Birch one) good articles put in. While they need some further work, the basis is there and is understandable. These are:

"The Stereochemistry of Ketonization of Enols and Enolates; Kinetic Protonation"
"The Möbius-Hückel Concept"

It was my early work which got the two ideas going but since then they have been a subject of a lot of research papers. Curiously, the first concept was "rediscovered" twice - once by Takano in Japan and once by an old friend of mine in Germany (Siegfried Hünig in Würzburg) who was very embarrassed when I noted the early publications. The second item is the counterpart of the Wooward-Hoffmann orbital symmetry work which got a Nobel prize for Hoffmann (Woodward had died).

Chzz, in looking at the article about me (Howard Zimmerman) and "Discussion" I see references to stuff I had written to you back in December. At that point I didn't know that it would have been better to have sent the stuff via e-mail but not it looks embarrassing and it cited in that "Discussion". That I sent you all that stuff including the picture seems proper but having it advertized (advertised?) isn't great.

As noted it has been some time since I last wrote. You have been a terrific help in learning how to do Links, References, pictures, etc.

My outlook now is to put things into Wikipedia that I don't plan on publishing elsewhere, or to put only the core material with the hope that others will expand on the articles.

The limitation seems to be that there are not many editors who a familiar with items of the kind I've written. Most seem just to take things from a textbook, and these are less interesting.

I'll end with best wishes,

Howard

I'll put in the signature and the tildes . Somehow I get complaints if I put in only the signature and complaints if I put in both.

Hi there! Nice to hear from you.
Let me deal with this signature trouble first. There seems something wrong in your settings, because when you 'sign' with the ~~~~, it is not putting links to your pages - that's why people are complaining about it. So, please;
 • Click on 'my preferences' at the top right
 • Remove anything that is in the 'Signature:' box
 • Make sure that the little tick-box underneath, labelled "Sign my name using the provided wikitext." is definitely not checked (un-check it, if it is)
I hope that will fix it.
Re. the talkpage Talk:Howard_Zimmerman, I have removed that old discussion - it's no longer relevant.
The ideas for new articles sounds good; best of luck with it. Again, I don't know the topic area, but of course if I can help with the Wikipedia side, please ask. Nice to hear from you again, best,  Chzz  ►  21:57, 14 June 2010 (UTC)

about the rejection of my article

Hello, I tried to create a an article about a new system I have been involved in: the companies' ID system, their DNA numbering identity. So far, only one system existed worldwide: the DUNS number, designed and managed by the US company D&B. I worked with fellows from Coface (a French company) and Creditreform (a German one), and we reach this global solution currently broadcasting... Can you tell where I was wrong in this article? Re. Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/EasyNumber
The submission was declined as 'not verifiable', correctly; you undid that. I've put it back - the message at the top does explain the problem. Two things;

1. You are very strongly encouraged to avoid editing Wikipedia in areas where there is a conflict of interest. Please read the business FAQ.

2. Articles need to show "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the source". See WP:VRS. A press-release and the company website does not do that.  Chzz  ►  16:31, 14 June 2010 (UTC)

To: Chzz, From: Howard Z

Chzz, thanks for the help.

I removed my name from the Signature Box on "my preferences" and unchecked the box on "Sign my name with the...etc".

I do have two questions: 1) When I get a message from you, there is the statement that I can removed the alert regarding the new message by removing the . But I haven't found a to be removed. The one in the message isn't removeable.

2) I seem to be the only one whose real name appears everywhere. How does one arrange for a nickname?

I realize it is late in England now and don't need immediate answers.

With very best wishes,

(Now see if my four tilde's show up properly)

Hezimmerman (talk) 22:38, 14 June 2010 (UTC)

Great, the signature works!
1. There is; for example, right now, in the "A report" section on your talk page is the code - that is the code that produces the 'alien talkback' thingy. You can simply remove it, and the message will disappear.
2. Your username can be anything you like (except promotional/offensive etc), and you can request for a change of name, at WP:CHU. It takes a few days. You don't have to use your real name, and many people choose not to. Chzz  ►  23:34, 14 June 2010 (UTC)

Reply to Question

Thanks for the reply it is appreciated. Within the article in question and the same section regarding sectarianism, how much of this should be on a football clubs article? This has been raised before by another editor on the project football discussion page but no one has really taken an interest as it only seems to affect the rangers article. Another neutral said that the section looked incoherent (i.e. just randon events bundled together to gain weight for the topic), what would your opinion be of the section as it is now and the proposal that was given?(Monkeymanman (talk) 20:51, 14 June 2010 (UTC))

From a brief check, I'd say that the "See also: Sectarianism in Glasgow" at the top of that section should instead be a Main article: Old Firm, that that article should be improved and expanded (possibly with some of the text from the Rangers article), and that the section in the Rangers article could be shrunk down by at least 50%, and probably to two paragraphs - ie summary style.
I hope that helps - as I say, it's only based on a quick look. I can't see the point in duplicating the info on the sectarian rivalry on both team articles; summary-style allows it to be kept separate. Cheers,  Chzz  ►  07:46, 15 June 2010 (UTC)
Thanks again for the reply, I have posted this argument on society sports and culture, WP:Football and asked for neutral editors opinion (so far no reply as yet). Replies from the society have agreed with the fact that the section is overweight and the proposal was along the right lines. Where do I go from here. The article and section really needs neutral editors (editors who have never really edited the page before) to look over it and give strong opinions about which way to go. Thanks for any advice and guidance in advance.(Monkeymanman (talk) 19:44, 15 June 2010 (UTC))
Be a bit patient, and see what happens - you've asked around; some people only log in once a week. So wait for at least that long, and monitor the discussion. If you get a clear consensus, make the change - but there's no rush. Best of luck,  Chzz  ►  03:22, 16 June 2010 (UTC)

Hiya Chzz. I know you're always busy, so please either ignore this, or read on & react if/when time ever permits.

ResPublica is my first proper article, inspired by reference to it externally. I looked it up on WP & found it missing.

I know I need links into it, e.g. from Phillip Blond.

If there are any changes you suggest (or easier for you to do them & I learn by observing your edits) then subarashii.

I also know I could add it to the Wikipedia:Requests for feedback page!

Re icons, stylized caption [ResPublica, changing the terms of debate] & picture - I found nothing on WikiCommons, so am I allowed to 'borrow' them from the ResPublica home page?

Wonder if it'll survive its birth! (My fault alone if I let it.)

BTW, T minus 3 days! Trafford09 (talk) 23:39, 15 June 2010 (UTC)

You can't use another Wikipedia article as a reference; instead, you could check the sources on that article, and use them - if they are appropriate reliable sources. In general, it needs more independent reliable sources - try Google Books, etc. Add neutral, balanced facts from those - it's certainly got potential.
When you use the same reference more than once, use a "named reference" to avoid all the duplication - see this edit. That's covered in User:Chzz/help/ref.
Use citation templates, to make for better, more standardized references e.g. [2]. See User:Chzz/help/refs (note, different link to last one).
Avoid too many lists. Prose is preferred - try to write in paragraph form, not just bullet-points.
I'll tidy it up a bit more. Please add stuff from WP:RS. Cheers,  Chzz  ►  02:53, 16 June 2010 (UTC)

Brilliant, Chzz. I've studied all the changes you made - thx for the tips & the explanations in ESs.

So, should one use 'cite web' for every <r ef> (except subsequent sausages)?

Should each 'cite web' have a full set of parameters? Even if some not used (or maybe they should always be?)?

Oh - I used bullet-points to make the sections look bigger - thought it may morph into a redirect if there didn't appear to be much in the article!

I didn't have any joy on Google Books from 1/1/2009, but I've found & used the best from these on Google News.

Re icons, stylized caption [ResPublica, changing the terms of debate] & picture - I found nothing on WikiCommons, so am I allowed to 'borrow' them from the ResPublica home page?

Much obliged, Trafford09 (talk) 08:53, 16 June 2010 (UTC)

Yep, I suggest using an appropriate cite tag for all references. Although I did use cite web there, usually I don't bother with all the different ones (cite book, cite news, etc), instead I use citation for everything - because, that one has the parameters to cover all kinds of sources, and it leads to a more consistent format. For GA-quality articles, the exact formatting of the references becomes very important, so it's easier to 'standardize' on the all-encompassing citation tag, in my experience.
I can understand your wanting to 'stretch things out' with the bullets, but really, it does need more references. It's a bit debatable whether it currently shows "significant coverage". What about the stuff in http://www.respublica.org.uk/press-and-media ? I haven't read through it, but aren't some of those reliable sources, with info that could be added?
For the pictures, the best thing to do is to contact the company, and ask if they can supply some, with an appropriate licence. Its probably OK to use their non-free logo, but you might as well ask first - they have a 'contact' thing on their website, and I would imagine they might want their logo and some other images to be freely available. If you can get them to email pictures with a suitable release, we can use them - my own release thingy is in User:chzz/help/myboilerplate. It never does harm to ask, so give it a try. Chzz  ►  01:39, 17 June 2010 (UTC)

I notified everyone with a recent entry that was not completely resolved with the following...

Hello! You recently posted a Request for Feedback here. We are currently "remodeling" the Requests for Feedback system and all entries have been archived. They can be found here. Any responses or posts there, however will not be seen. If you need additional feedback or have any questions, feel free to post at my talk page, or, when it is done, the new Feedback page. Also, we encourage you to help provide feedback! - No matter how new you may be, anyone can read an article and provide constructive comments!

If you have any questions or need help, feel free to leave me a message at my talk page. Happy editing!~ QwerpQwertus ·_Contact Me_·Get Adopted! 04:12, 18 June 2010 (UTC)

Also, I plan to re-add ones that didn't get any feedback when it is done. ...so I think we're ready - should I archive it now? ~ QwerpQwertus ·_Contact Me_·Get Adopted! 04:12, 18 June 2010 (UTC)

I like the bold move, and I think it's a good approach - but I'm confused; the above (and on the user talk pages) you're linking to Wikipedia:Requests for feedback/Archive 19, and I'm not even quite sure what that one is; the navigation template on the top of it is...wrong. The latest is Wikipedia:Requests for feedback/Archive/28 - and note the /. There is also an Wikipedia:Requests for feedback/Archive/19.
I think...you've put them into Wikipedia:Requests for feedback/Archive 29?
To avoid any further confusion and complications, I won't move anything around - leaving it to you; let me know.
I think, yes, we could certainly just go ahead with things. I think we'll need to make pages the same as User:Chzz/Wikipedia:Requests for feedback/2010 June 9 (is that one OK?) but with the dates changed for each page - perhaps for June 1st onwards? And then we could populate them with the outstanding requests. We could do that stuff now... do you have any suggestions how, or could you create them or something? Or I can, with a bot. Once they are all made, then yes, we could certainly just change the main page to transclude the past few days, like the 'demo', and move that new navigation page over. Note the demo also has an adapted edit notice, and things. Some bits will need tidying up...but I expect we could deal with those issues as they arose.
So - let me know. Feel free to just do things, also. Hope we can get it sorted out. Thanks v. much,  Chzz  ►  04:55, 18 June 2010 (UTC)

(overlapped message) I've archived it and left a notice. I think we should go ahead with the change now - everything is ready, the transclusions only need to be updated and then I can transfer some of the unreviewed ones to today's entry and it'll be up and running.~ QwerpQwertus ·_Contact Me_·Get Adopted! 04:43, 18 June 2010 (UTC) (end)

Hmm - I messed that up. I'll redirect /Archive 19 to /Archive/29 and move the content there also to fix it (I'd assumed that it used standard archive numbering and accidentally used 19 instead of 29. I'll start laying the foundations for the new page tonight also - I doubt I'll finish. And the new design looks much better (also the June 9). Thanks for doing that! ~ QwerpQwertus ·_Contact Me_·Get Adopted! 05:06, 18 June 2010 (UTC)

OK, no worries; I think...well, let's just both keep doing what we can; I think it'll work out. I may or may not just sort out some bot-way of creating the pages for June - but you'll see if I do it. And if you happen to do it first, that's all fine too. They'll be called Wikipedia:Requests for feedback/2010 June 1 thru to the current date or end of month, so we'll see 'em.

I suggest we just make 'June' for now; see how it goes. We might want to make the whole year later; shouldn't be a problem, but we might end up wanting to tweak the format, so I think just making the current month is logical.

Just keep in touch, let me know what you do, and I'll do same.

Don't know if you use IRC; you can mostly catch me 'live' - [here, or whatever. Cheers,  Chzz  ►  05:20, 18 June 2010 (UTC)

Er, scratch that; I've started making pages for June now; it's prob not worth much automation for this (for now) - won't take long to just make 'em "by hand" / semi-auto. Chzz  ►  05:34, 18 June 2010 (UTC)
That sounds good, and the page is only one edit away from at least being in functional condition. ~ QwerpQwertus ·_Contact Me_·Get Adopted! 05:39, 18 June 2010 (UTC)

Is this OK?

Hi, just completed archiving my first feedback request. I wanted to check if everything's in the right place and things - I posted a messageon the user's talk page. I hope this is OK. Chevymontecarlo 12:13, 18 June 2010 (UTC)

That's fine - thanks - but, in the meantime, we've restructured Feedback, so there is no need to archive anything, any more. Now there are separate pages for each day, we no longer need to move old requests into a separate archive.
The main WP:FEED page will automatically just show the past few days. This saves the problems with llinks cahnging etc, and with the page getting too large.
This change happened between my leaving you the message, and your reply.
So - thank you very much, and please do continue to give people feedback - but there is no need to move old requests to the archive any more. Cheers,  Chzz  ►  12:31, 18 June 2010 (UTC)
Ah, I didn't notice. Sorry. I will continue to work on the requests. Chevymontecarlo 12:58, 18 June 2010 (UTC)

Oh, no bother at all, Fetchcomms - I just wanted a bit of help with it, so asked around - and I got help. It's happened, and...overall, I think it's OK. Some bits will be wrong, and need tweaking, but the basics are now in-place.
Hope you're having a good break. BTW, I will try to deal with FFU, which is backlogging in your absence! Cheers,  Chzz  ►  15:45, 18 June 2010 (UTC)

Hey Chzz, I liked your thorough reply on User talk:Cimicifugia (I was patrolling the help category from the admin dashbpard and stumbled across it). Oh, thanks everso much - I missed that, and it's v confusing when links are wrong. Greatly appreciated.
Being as you are here... can you have a quick look at this? I know we cannot 'block on request', but perhaps you could check contribs and give it consideration. Hi I am Keninuk and I thank you for your really nice welcom message to me.

I still find it very hard to add a picture from my own PC to an article. (there are no copyright problems of any kind)

Would it be better if I use the open source Tiki platform to help add content more easily?

Thanks a lot for your time.

Hi there.
When you leave messages, please remember to "sign" your name, by putting ~~~~ (four tilde signs) at the end. This will add your name, and the date and time. You can also do this by clicking the 'sign' button, pictured to the right.
Do that instead of putting your email; it's a bad idea to put your email address on pages anyway, because of spam problems.
I don't know what "open source Tiki platform" is, but anyway...to use a picture, you first need to upload it, through Special:Upload.
Sample picture
The 'code' to use it on a page is, for example;

...the results of which are shown here.

If you have any troubles with it, let me know. Cheers,  Chzz  ►  22:05, 19 June 2010 (UTC)

Wikipedia policies and guidelines are pages, like any other, that anyone can edit. Per WP:BRD, users are encouraged to boldly edit pages. If another user objects to their edit, they are at liberty to revert it - and then, we discuss it, and form a consensus about whether or not it is a worthy edit.
This applies to all pages - articles, and policies.
We do not block people as 'punishment' - we only block to prevent harm to Wikipedia - for disruptive editing. Do not take it personally.

Another Question

Since you answered one question for me, maybe you could answer another. In your experience, have you learned any tricks to stand up for factual evidence against other users who don't without engaging in edit warring or personal attacks or what have you. I'm sure there are plenty of pages out there with advice, but I was curious from your own experience.

I thought in a few months i'd be ready for adminship(currently at 9 months and 4,000+ edits in) but I have to admit that now I wonder. Sure, out of that 4,000 and change, i've had edit wars for only a handful, but I just had one today where I got drawn in further than I wanted to and I couldn't get myself out as quickly as I would have liked. (sorry this took a while to answer)
An important thing in all disputes is, to separate the content issue from the person issue(s). It's all about having a good 'argument' in the best sense of the word - a reasoned, thoughtful debate. I suppose, in some ways, it is easier to 'manage' if the other user(s) are not WP:CIVIL etc, because we have ways of dealing with that.
When the other user is cooperative, it is more difficult - an oxymoron.
I find the best approach is to get more people involved - often, there is a deadlock, and it's much easier to build a consensus with half a dozen editors participating than it is with two or three. Of course, being careful about WP:CANVASS, I try to seek people who will add their thoughts - by asking nicely on the talk page of project groups, or looking to related articles...trying to find people with a general interest in the subject area, and remaining oblivious to their possible agreement/disagreement with my own opinion. Apart from project groups, posting to noticeboards can help - not too many, not Wikipedia:Policy shopping - but often disputes are about RS, so WP:RSN can help, or WP:BLP/N, or using an WP:RFC.
It should go without saying that no deadline, stay calm, etc.
I've found myself bogged down a few times; sometimes I leave it for a while - a few weeks - and then check back on it. I keep notes on "things to look at again", as shown at the top of this page; when I have free time, I look through the list, and see what has developed. Time the great healer, and all that. As we have no deadline, it never hurts to step away for a while.
It took me a long time, and much heartache, to realise that WP:FUCK is the only way to keep sane - and that isn't a trite comment, it's true; step back and look at the bigger picture. If there is something a bit wrong about one of the 6,823,522 articles for a bit, does it really matter? I imagine that, in one shape or form, Wikipedia content will be around for a long time, and (few months) / (long time) = quite unimportant, if you see what I mean. Chzz  ►  22:32, 20 June 2010 (UTC)

help appreciated

Thanks for the help ! I can not figure out how to link to other pages of wikipedia . can you steer me to a guide on this subject . I do not see any difference for my page on the port of climax and the page of the village of climax which is 20 miles north of the port and has less significance than the port. for some reason i was seen as supporting "a cause". in fact i have no intrest in either the village or the port. thanks again

(Jay3bay (talk) 05:24, 19 June 2010 (UTC)).

Hi there.
To link to other articles, you put the title of the article inside double square-brackets; for example, sausage makes a link to our article on that subject, like this: sausage. If the title differs from the text to link, you put, for example, He is a dentist., which will appear as: He is a dentist. For more on that, see WP:LINKING.
The article Climax, Saskatchewan is, indeed, also lacking in any references. Lots and lots of Wikipedia articles are - but, that isn't a reason to add more. However, note that it was created in 2007 - and Wikipedia standards have changed a lot since then.
That article - and many thousands more - need fixing. Wikipedia is an ongoing project, with no deadline. I just added the 'tag' unreferenced to that specific article, to highlight the problem; hopefully, someone will work to improve it. You could similarly have tagged it, and indeed tried to add references, or nominated it for deletion, etc.
So - Port of Climax needs references for the facts. :I'm pleased to see that you added one reference. I've just edited it and added a few sentences, beginning with The border crossing facility..., to hopefully illustrate the idea.
Some other comments;
 • The phrase "The lovely Montana City" is not acceptable, because it is not neutral.
 • The phrase "only a short drive" gives an opinion, not a referenced fact. "23.5 miles" (referenced to some book or something) would be much better.
 • The phrase "Recent interest" should be avoided, because it will soon be out of date. Better to say "In 2010" or something.
I hope this helps.  Chzz  ►  23:28, 20 June 2010 (UTC)

Trying to create Adult Children of Alcoholics

Regarding User:OmmadawnDK/Adult Children of Alcoholics.

You said: "You need to give references, to show that a topic is notable."

I have read and reread the definition, and I still don't get it. Why are my references not enough to prove that ACA is notable? OmmadawnDK (talk) 02:22, 21 June 2010 (UTC)

Oops, that's my error; because the references were listed in a section called 'Notes' and because that appeared after the external links, I missed it. I've just edited it slightly, to put == References == in the appropriate place. Sorry.
You are correct, that it has sufficient reliable sources for notability. I would move it live myself, now, but I have a few remaining concerns - mostly, that there are unreferenced assertions. Really, everything needs a reference - but the parts that specifically concern me are;
 • began in USA appr. 1978, among other by the adult child Tony A..
 • about 700 groups in the whole world, about 500 of these in USA.
 • The "Organization" section - without independent reliable sources, this might fail WP:NOTGUIDE etc. Without independent reliable sources, claims such as many members recommend that new members work the 12 step program (and in fact all of the section) are...well, it is not fact, it's opinion, and rather advert-like. See also WP:WEASEL re. "many". And things like There's a great cooperation between groups and countries is spam, to be honest.
 • Similar for "ACA program" - needs chopping down. Cold, hard facts, please. Not "some", etc.
I hope that you do not mind my frank critique; I am more than happy to help you sort out the issues. Best,  Chzz  ►  02:47, 21 June 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, that's good news, that I can move it live. That was my goal for now. I can work on the other stuff as time permits, but my goal right now was to conquer that little thing. So, how do I move it live? OmmadawnDK (talk) 13:24, 21 June 2010 (UTC)
To be clear: you can make it live, and I do not think that it will be "speedy deleted". However I think that it is likely people will add notices at the top pointing out the issues I have noted - reimprove, pov, advert, coi etc - which does not make for a good image. Additionally, they may well issue you with various notices, about your addition of uncited material, addition of promotional content, etc. - which does not reflect well on your account.
My advice is to fix those problems before making it live. There is no deadline. To move it to the live area, you just use the WP:MOVE function. Best,  Chzz  ►  13:37, 21 June 2010 (UTC)

editsemiprotected

When looking at an editsemiprotected request, please check the reason that the page is semiprotected. If the page is protected to prevent socks from editing the page, it's generally a good idea not to honor them unless you can be absolutely certain that the request isn't coming from the person the page is protected against.—Kww(talk) 18:38, 21 June 2010 (UTC)

Which one?  Chzz  ►  19:01, 21 June 2010 (UTC)
OK, so I see you meant Adultdream (talk · contribs) - but I don't think that it is reasonable to ask people performing edit-semi requests to do a full background check. How could we be "absolutely certain" anyway? We are not checkusers. I also see that you have now used an edit notice, and I suppose that might help in the future. But really...from the perspective of the edit request, as I understand it the objective is simply to try to avoid vandalism, etc. I checked the reference, and the info seemed valid, so I think I did a reasonable job, no?  Chzz  ►  19:21, 21 June 2010 (UTC)
I'm not saying that you did something unreasonable. I just recognize you as being a fairly experienced user, and know that you can check a page's protection log and similar tasks. It's perfectly reasonable to ask you to check if the page is semi-protected due to socking. If you don't want to do the extra step of verifying the user, you are perfectly free to not process the editsemiprotected request when you see that the page was protected due to socking. The purpose of the semi-protection is to make absolutely certain that Brexx cannot influence article contents in any way, and sometimes I don't catch the edisemiprotected requests fast enough to erase them before people process them.—Kww(talk) 21:47, 22 June 2010 (UTC)

Ass article

The quotes I gave "not now in polite use" and "taboo - Old English" are not mine. They are quotes from well renowned printed dictionaries. They are not opinion but are an accurate statement of the fact of current practice. If I had stated "This word isn't used since I think it's obscene slang" that would have been opinion and not admissable. Personally, I think the "not now in polite use" is the best description and is worth recording. It is in reasonably plain English; using the word 'taboo' would have required further explanation (not needed in this context). It may be in a decade or more the usage will have changed, then the article may change to reflect this but should also record the history. The article for 'Gay' seems to do this quite qell!

The issue of correct spellings (and correct meanings of words) is quite complicated and is not captured properly in the Spelling article - but I'll leave that for another time.Scanrod (talk) 09:36, 22 June 2010 (UTC)

Oh, I realise that - that's fine. I simply was not sure of the best solution for that specific page - so I left the request for others, and to get more ideas and opinions. However.... as you have now made the requisite 10 edits, you should actually be able to edit the semi-protected page yourself, if you wish! Cheers,  Chzz  ►  09:56, 22 June 2010 (UTC)

Re:The Lazarus Effect

Hey. I've heard a lot of people talk about FPC being a harsh environment- I honestly hang out there because I find it more relaxing than other areas where I've spent time- NFC work and OTRS are both very stressful. In fact, the last few months have seen a much lower involvement in Wikipedia from me- it's FPC that has gradually brought me back, and I finally stepped back into the OTRS arena yesterday :) My honest opinion is that this one is not going to pass- the composition is unappealing, and it seems quite snap-shotty. Regardless of the quality of the image (which, I'll be honest, is definitely lacking) I just don't think that one's quite there. Compare it to some of the pictures I linked, and you'll start to see what I mean. I hope you're well, and I hope this experience hasn't turned you off FPC completely. J Milburn (talk) 10:20, 22 June 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for that! That's fine. I don't get stressed about anything - but I do find FPC harsh; it's not very welcoming to new/occasional visitors, partly due to the 'frank' criticism, and partly because of all the in-house terminology. But I do understand, and it's no big deal. Thanks again,  Chzz  ►  10:26, 22 June 2010 (UTC)

CoercorashTalkContr. 06:14, 24 June 2010 (UTC)

Of course, you can set it to anything - I put 365 because that's what you mentioned on your talk page, and whilst I thought it a bit long, given that page, I think a long time is fine. I've just changed it to the more 'normal' 180d; see this edit - if you wish to change it again, please edit it yourself, and just change in those two places. I do not recommend 7 days though - it's a bit extreme. Even with 180d I think that we'll mostly be on the minimum 6 threads.  Chzz  ►  06:55, 24 June 2010 (UTC)

 • Hi, I agree with you in the first matter but about the second matter you should check other articles similar like it which are considered for deletion in AFD like 1, 2 and 3.Should I put {db-promo} on article? Also,I have reported Sock puppetry about the article creator of Ultrabass BXR1800H.Max Viwe | Wanna chat with me? 12:21, 25 June 2010 (UTC)
Two separate things;
 • I wouldn't consider Ultrabass BXR1800H to be a blatant advertizing. When tagging CSD stuff, always err on the cautious side. If something says; FOO make the worlds greatest sausages, buy them here, call 1-23-456 or email foosausages@baa.com! then it's a blatant advert. But for something like that one, the thing to do would be - Google it, try to reference it, and if you cannot, use WP:PROD. A product like that is an encyclopaedic topic (e.g. Marshall 1959).
 • Re. possible socks - yes, I am aware of that, and I was looking into it as you wrote,. However, AGF means that we should treat that issue separately. It's possible that a bunch of people decided to create accounts to make articles; I don't know yet. I'll look into that further.  Chzz  ►  12:38, 25 June 2010 (UTC)

Well, first, always, I'd try to fix it - look for WP:RS. If I couldn't find any, I'd use WP:PROD. PROD can work quite well, and it doesn't "bother anyone", if you see what I mean. When you log an AfD, it means dozens of people will look at it, and several (hopefully) will add comments; if a PROD succeeds, all that time is saved - time which could be better spent. If the PROD us removed, then I'd take it to AfD. Chzz  ►  12:51, 25 June 2010 (UTC)

Weissmax25 (talk) 19:33, 25 June 2010 (UTC)

Hi. the proposed article still has a number of problems. Per WP:COI, I suggest that you edit other articles instead.
Issues with the proposal include (but are not limited to);
 • three commonly accepted methods - accorting to whom? (see WP:V)
 • All three of these approaches have advantages and disadvantages - according to whom?
 • However, no one solution can be applied in all situations. - according to whom?
 • This article concentrates on... - meta-information; this is not encyclopaedic. Just state facts.
 • Re. section "Response Alternatives On An Eroding Beach" - this offers a biased view, opinion, not fact. For example,
There is a growing body of evidence - where? Prove that it is 'growing'.
nearshore breakwaters, if filled with sand, will not have a negative impacts on the littoral drift system. - according to perhaps that one source. Do others disagree?
Problems with vague terms, per WP:WEASEL, WP:PEACOCK etc. - Managed Retreat - A second option is retreat as the shoreline erodes. This option has been exercised very infrequently along the United States shoreline; however, a number of examples exist. Retreat the most appropriate option in areas of high erosion and in the presence of small economic revenue base. Many, but not all areas of high erosion are due to human activities.
 • And so it goes on. "Sand or “Borrow” Sources" says, source of suitable material for a particular project depends upon... - opinion, not fact.
 • The most important borrow material characteristic is ditto

I hope this gives some indication of the problems with conflict of interest. I highly recommend editing other articles. Best,  Chzz  ►  02:35, 27 June 2010 (UTC)

Question About Submitting Draft

(Loreensherman (talk) 11:56, 26 June 2010 (UTC)). Hi Chzz, thanks for your advice about posting on Wikipedia. I certainly want to stay within Wikipedia's parameters and guidelines. I am confused because my article for Formulaic Communication in the 21st Century was moved to another talk page under a draft... Uncertain as to what that means. Please explain. (Loreensherman (talk) 11:56, 26 June 2010 (UTC)).

On 21 June, you first created Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Four Tests Formulaic Communication Passes in Economics - that is still there; it is a 'declined' submission, but that does not preclude further edits, and asking us to re-check it.
It would appear that you created an article re. "Continual Progression of Entrepreneurism" on your user talk page, and I then moved that to a subpage - that is now in User talk:Loreensherman/draft one, which you have edited and resubmitted here. Most of that article did not display, because of the incorrect reference format, which I have just fixed, here. It still, currently, contains almost entirely quoted material, rather than encyclopaedic fact; please do read other articles for ideas, as suggested on your talk page, and ask for a further review when it is more appropriate. OK; I do not think OE was being at all rude, and I certainly don't see any accusations of vandalism. I actually think it is good advice - editing articles is certainly the best way of learning more about Wikipedia. But anyway - in the interests of good faith, a short explanation of those rights;

 • The edit filter checks new edits, and marks things that need checking further - like e.g. a new user removing a whole section. Originally it was called "abuse filter", and that old name lives on in the user right, and the special pages, Special:AbuseLog. The right allows me to view and edit the filters.
 • Account creator means I can help make user accounts, when we get requests via email (when people can't type in the CAPTCHA thing or whatever). You don't actually need that permission, except for creating accounts with a 'similar name' and stuff. Read about that in Wikipedia:Request an account/Guide.

To get more involved with Wikipedia, perhaps you could have a look at WP:FEED and/or WP:AFC - we always need more help on those. Cheers,  Chzz  ►  11:11, 27 June 2010 (UTC)

Edit Warring

Hello, I thought I'd let you know that I maintain my Talk page like an email inbox, when I receive a message and read it, or a discussion is over, I clear the page and leave the "blank" message so people know why. Otherwise there's too much clutter, so I don't mean it to be taken in any other respect. I also wasn't sure if the warning on edit warring was an automated response or that you may have wanted to get back to me. Regarding the edit warring however, an article ban on Kristoferb (talk) may be required as they refuse to accept that their images aren't suitable or a contribution to sertraline or paracetamol.

When I have disagreements with other users, I either seek the opinion of a third established user who has experience with the topic of the article, compromise or accept the decision. This particular user is beyond reason, claiming that NuclearWarfare (talk) is my "puppet", because this user also reverted the two edits in dispute on both articles. I have never communicated with this user, and the comment is preposterous. Sertraline is a featured article, which makes the warring more unacceptable, but Kristoferb (talk) refuses to accept the consensus of others. I have also notified NuclearWarfare (talk) that the user is persisting to revert edits when two users (including myself) disagree with the images being suitable or a contribution to the articles based on their non-English context and the presence of other suitable images. Kristoferb (talk) has their own interests at heart, not the quality of articles. Editor182 (talk) 01:48, 27 June 2010 (UTC)

The other user may well be doing wrong too, but that is not the point at all; I see no consensus for the edit on Talk:Paracetamol.
My message was partly a template, but only because the template text says exactly what I meant;
...users who perform several reversions in content disputes may be blocked for edit warring even if they do not technically violate the three-revert rule. When in dispute with another editor you should first try to discuss controversial changes to work towards wording and content that gains a consensus among editors. Should that prove unsuccessful, you are encouraged to seek dispute resolution, and in some cases it may be appropriate to request page protection. If the edit warring continues, you may be blocked from editing without further notice.
The remainder was my own, 'hand-written' advice;
"It takes two people to create an edit-war - why not relax, have tea, do not climb the Reichstag dressed as Spider-Man. There is no deadline, it does not matter if it is the m:The wrong version for a bit. If it's a content dispute, it can be resolved through consensus. If others are not WP:CIVIL, we can deal with that too"
As long as you have read, understood and acted upon the warning, then of course you are perfectly at liberty to blank your user talk page. If you have any questions, please let me know. Best wishes,  Chzz  ►  03:27, 27 June 2010 (UTC)

No problem, thanks for the reply. Thus far there is one other user on the sertraline page who has given their opinion against the image, but I'm not sure how far it has to go. I'm about to give up on this one, but it's a shame that an edit warring can allow a user to keep their revision in place even when it's 2 against 1, or in the case of the sertraline article, 3 against 1, and a dispute process has to be fulfilled. I was under the impression that an administrator could review the issue and decide which edit is more suitable and end it there. It's nothing major, though. Editor182 (talk) 03:57, 27 June 2010 (UTC)

Question

 • Hi, I want to ask you that can a user who don't have an Wikipedia account and contributes using IP address create an article?Max Viwe | Wanna chat with me? 05:51, 27 June 2010 (UTC)
Not directly, no; only users that are logged in can create articles in the live namespace. Best advice to them is to create an account, but if they do not wish to do so, then the "Articles for creation" process is available; in that, they create a page in the Wikipedia talk namespace (where non-logged-in users can create pages), and it is reviewed and moved to article namespace if appropriate. For example, see User talk:12.196.37.227 - that IP user has created many articles this way.  Chzz  ►  11:42, 27 June 2010 (UTC)
Thank you very very munch for you help.btw, What's the difference between Bureaucrats and admin and how they get such right?Max Viwe | Wanna chat with me? 11:51, 27 June 2010 (UTC)
Bureaucrat is a 'housekeeping' type of function. They can grant admin permission (when the community has agreed to it via WP:RFA), give bot permissions, and change usernames. There are only 15 of them. They are nominated and selected via the same basic process as admins, at WP:RFB. Chzz  ►  13:00, 27 June 2010 (UTC)

Senra didn't want that article live. She wanted it in her userspace.... Mr. R00t Talk 18:19, 28 June 2010 (UTC)

About the move, Thanks for showing me where most people have it, I moved mine to be next to the Talk button. Mr. R00t Talk 18:19, 28 June 2010 (UTC)
Again, sorry for the mix-up; entirely my fault. I think it's all OK now.
Yes, the 'Vector' move-button is well hidden, which causes quite a few problems, which is specifically why I made that image to show people.
Thanks for your understanding.  Chzz  ►  18:27, 28 June 2010 (UTC)

NWA Heavyweight Championship statistics

Hi, I used excel and data provided by wikipedia and other wrestling sites to determine how old wrestlers were by the time they won the championship. I would like to add Lou Thesz as the eldest champion, he held the championship from January 24th, 1963 to January 7th, 1966. On the last day of his reign he was 49 years and 258 days old.

Additionally, I would like to out in Chris Candido as the youngest NWA champion, he won the championship for the first time in November 19th, 1994 at the age of 22 years and 243 days old. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 60.226.51.107 (talk) 02:23, 29 June 2010 (UTC)

Unfortunately, that sounds like original research or synthesis; facts stated on Wikipedia should be published in reliable sources, such as newspapers or books.  Chzz  ►  03:45, 29 June 2010 (UTC)

Allowing the Nexus Program Article

This is Secretary Vice Assistant. As I said before, it is crucial that you allow the nexus program article to be created for this will be the only source of information on this topic. The only other source that will be publicized will be on a government access program. This means that normal civilians without clearance will not be permitted to view these files. If this page does not go into publication then no one will no what this program is. This program is a new program that has not gone into use yet nor has it been publicized anywhere. It will not go into use until a few years from now but we must notify the public first to reduce panic or harsh reaction. If you publicize this article I will send you the direct link to view the article on the CIA page as soon as it goes into publication. Contact me to discuss it further. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Secretary Vice Assistant (talkcontribs) 05:47, 29 June 2010 (UTC)

If the information is not published elsewhere, then it is not appropriate for Wikipedia, which only documents facts that are published by verifiable reliable sources; we do not permit original research. I suggest trying elsewhere.  Chzz  ►  17:53, 29 June 2010 (UTC)

You don't understand. This information is wholly and entirely new. It will not be published elsewhere for a while. You have absolutely nothing to lose for this publication. If it is not published within the next 6 months(which it will be) then you can simply delete it. or I will do so myself. I also said that when it becomes available on the CIA page i will give you the direct link. This is my last request. You will not be disconcerted any longer. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Secretary Vice Assistant (talkcontribs) 20:52, 29 June 2010 (UTC)

We cannot accept it until it is published elsewhere. Chzz  ►  20:58, 29 June 2010 (UTC)

John Wilkins

Hi Chzzz How do i move the page i created - John Wilkins (Indian artist) to main space thanks Jeh Singh (talk) 08:08, 29 June 2010 (UTC)

Actually, John Wilkins (Indian artist) has been a live article since 17 May. I removed the header message that said it was a 'userspace draft' with this edit. You may wish to request feedback on it. Cheers,  Chzz  ►  17:24, 29 June 2010 (UTC)

Hi Chzz, Thanks for your comments on my talk page. Actually, people were pretty helpful when I first got started using Wikipedia. I haven't had the urge to edit anything else since, but I do appreciate your thoughtfulness. All the best, Allison AllisonShapira (talk) 23:50, 29 June 2010 (UTC)

re : edit of Thomas Clough Daffern page

Hi Chzz,

Afraid I had problems with the live connection this morning, so I thought the best thing to do since I cannot remember my original username and password for the above Wikipedia page, was to create a new account and set it up again. Is this ok? And can I cancel the old page somehow ?

Here is the last correspondence I had with you last year which is in your archive 14:

re: edit of Thomas Clough Daffern page

Thank you for responding so quickly to the suggested replacement article. Please can you explain in more detail the issue with copyright, and also if the references just need to be re-stylised in Wikepedia format? many thanks Chzz (Iipsgpeditor (talk) 12:10, 2 September 2009 (UTC)) (Iipsgpeditor (talk) 11:21, 4 September 2009 (UTC))

Ref. Thomas Clough Daffern, see User:Iipsgpeditor/Thomas Clough Daffern  Chzz  ►  11:34, 4 September 2009 (UTC)
The problem regarding copyright is, I googled for some of the phrases used in the proposed article and I found the exact same wording on various websites which are copyrighted.
There are other problems than just that, and the referencing layout, however. A core policy of Wikipedia is verifiability - that means that the reader should be able to check the facts by following the references. That's why we need to present facts given in reliable sources. A lot of the information in the article cannot be verified, and therefore would not be suitable for inclusion. Please review WP:FIRST and WP:BLP. Cheers,  Chzz  ►  13:56, 4 September 2009 (UTC)
