Justas Pikelis page deletion

Hello,

I would like to retrieve the information from the Justas Pikelis deleted page and change it in a way that is suited more for Wikipedia.

Thanks. --Deelillo (talk) 14:31, 1 May 2018 (UTC)

Hello, Deelillo. The Justas Pikelis article was deleted because sentences such as "With his main competencies in digital marketing, social media marketing, product advertising and branding, Justas was able to attract well known international clients in France, United States, United Arab Emirates, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Malaysia and other countries" and "Justas's marketing knowledge of financial technologies and the blockchain led him to co-found Monetha" were overly promotional (and unsourced). If you would like to try again by creating an article as a draft for review, please follow the instructions at Wikipedia:Your first article. Cordless Larry (talk) 17:18, 1 May 2018 (UTC)

Thanks for Your answer. Can You recover the deleted page content atleast, as it was quite some work to do and i had the sources, so the changes i need to do according to guidelines i will do. --Deelillo (talk) 07:07, 2 May 2018 (UTC)

Because of the promotional nature of the text, I cannot restore the article, Deelillo, but if you enable the "Allow other users to email me" option at Special:Preferences, I can e-mail it to you on the understanding that you will only make use of it for creating a less promotional article as a draft for review. Cordless Larry (talk) 11:06, 2 May 2018 (UTC)

I enabled "Allow other users to email me" option. Please send the content of the page. Thank You very much!! --Deelillo (talk) 13:02, 2 May 2018 (UTC)

birth

Hi Good Sir, I'm sorry about that. I thought I could submit proof of birth somewhere, but clearly I need to study up.

No worries, Syndeticos. I suggest having a read of WP:VERIFY. What we need is a published source. Cordless Larry (talk) 20:03, 12 May 2018 (UTC)

Tetyna Ramus

Dear Larry. I really have no any connection with Tetyana Ramus. I have never seen her and never talk with her. --Perohanych (talk) 12:59, 18 May 2018 (UTC)

I thought that you told me in an e-mail that you have friends who are involved with her company Artramus, Perohanych? Apologies if I misunderstood. Cordless Larry (talk) 15:38, 18 May 2018 (UTC)
You misunderstood. I told you that I had friends, who were very passionate with the brand. This mean they wear clothes of the brand. Is it my close connection with the designer? :) --Perohanych (talk) 04:52, 19 May 2018 (UTC)
OK, then I will remove the template. It was your use of "with the brand" that made me think they worked with her. Cordless Larry (talk) 17:03, 19 May 2018 (UTC)

i don't get you i just asked for a help in scholarship and you are telling me i said something wrong → that not fair — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bash kid na (talkcontribs) 18:20, 25 May 2018 (UTC)

I didn't revert your addition of a question about scholarships, Bash kid na, but rather this edit, which inappropriately modified (perhaps accidentally?) other editors' comments. Cordless Larry (talk) 20:13, 25 May 2018 (UTC)

I don't have to ability to run a checkuser, Thylacoop5, but if you have evidence then you should initiate an SPI. Cordless Larry (talk) 20:14, 25 May 2018 (UTC)

Post

I deleted that post seen on the tea house page because I was told it was the wrong place for that kind of question. I accept that and would like it removed if possible. Can yoyu make an exception here? The question and it's type has no place at teahouse. SandyPetersen (talk) 06:54, 27 May 2018 (UTC)

No, that is not right, SandyPetersen. Other editors might learn something, and I took the time to write an answer. You should not delete something after another editor has responded. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 07:03, 27 May 2018 (UTC)
We generally prefer to maintain a record of discussion page activity, SandyPetersen, so unless there is a good reason for removing something, it usually stays. It does no harm to keep your question and Cullen328's answer, and it will be archived shortly in any case. Cordless Larry (talk) 19:55, 27 May 2018 (UTC)

Just a suggestion

I've been thinking maybe you should change your username to Bluetooth Larry or Cellular Larry, or at the very least WiFi-Enabled Larry. Cordless Larry is very 1990s. EEng 04:56, 28 May 2018 (UTC) Or maybe Induction-Charged Larry.

File:Cordless.phone.750pix.jpg
The wireless charger I have for my mobile (sorry, cellular) phone hardly ever works, EEng, so I think I'll just stay good old-fashioned Cordless if it's OK with you. Cordless Larry (talk) 20:55, 28 May 2018 (UTC)

Contact/advice

Hi Cordless Larry, I just received a message from HostBot, where he kindly adviced me to contact you on my latest draft for a new contribution to Wikipedia. Curious to hear what you think... and any advice you can give me for my contribution to get accepted would be most welcome. Hope to hear from you. All best wishes, Giovannihofmann — Preceding unsigned comment added by Giovannihofmann (talkcontribs) 22:13, 28 May 2018 (UTC)

Hello, Giovannihofmann, and welcome to Wikipedia. If you look closely, you'll see that the invitation was to the Teahouse, which is a good place to ask for this sort of advice. I do try to answer questions there where possible, but I am rather busy with others tasks at the moment. However, there are plenty of other Teahouse volunteers who can help you if you post your question there. Cordless Larry (talk) 06:54, 29 May 2018 (UTC)

Just a reminder that the above link is a policy. A policy is a standard that all editors should normally follow. This edit does not follow the spirit if improve, specifically the section WP:FIXTHEPROBLEM. Your only concern with the section was ONE sentence that was a duplicate and you decided to remove half the article of its texts? Thylacoop5 (talk) 08:29, 31 May 2018 (UTC)

No, my concern was not only with a single sentence. Please see my comments at Talk:Somali Rebellion#Copying within Wikipedia and within the article and engage with my concerns there. Cordless Larry (talk) 08:32, 31 May 2018 (UTC)
Your only other concern (non-attribution) was dealth with. This means, the only concern left was the duplicate sentence, whoch you dealth with by violating WP:FIXTHEPROBLEM. Do you agree that you violated a wikipedia policy? Thylacoop5 (talk) 08:35, 31 May 2018 (UTC)
The policy states that editors should try to fix problems, which is what I did by raising them on the talk page. You have failed to engage in discussion there and keep reintroducing the material, including duplicate sentences (not limited to the one I gave as an example). Cordless Larry (talk) 08:40, 31 May 2018 (UTC)
No. You "fixed" the problem by wholesale deletion. WP:editing policy says (and i quote) "try to fix it rather than delete it". You did the opposite of what WP:Edit requires you to do. Thylacoop5 (talk) 08:45, 31 May 2018 (UTC)
I only reverted 24 hours after I had raised the issue on the talk page, because you failed to engage, but please do report me at WP:AN/I if you think I have broken policy. By the way, you haven't dealt with the attribution point, as far as I can see. When you copy within Wikipedia, you need to provide a link to the source article in your edit summary. I don't see where you have done that. Cordless Larry (talk) 08:48, 31 May 2018 (UTC)

Policies and guidelines

Just informing you about the difference between a policy and a guideline. A policy is a standard that all users should normally follow. A guideline conveys how to follow those practises. In this edit, you appear to be defending the blanking of content without providing a reason. Since the WP:Vandalism page prohibits "Removing encyclopedic content without any reason", you are by extension condoning the contravention of wikipedia's policies as well as encouraging others to contravene wikipedia's policies. To avoid doing so again, I recommend reading and familiarizing yourself with WP:POLICY before making anymore edits with this account. Thylacoop5 (talk) 12:37, 1 June 2018 (UTC)

The problems with your additions to the article are given in the discussion at Talk:Somali Rebellion#Copying within Wikipedia and within the article, as you well know. Kzl55 explained why they were reverting you in their edit summary, referring you to that discussion, which you have largely failed to engage with. Wikipedia:Consensus is also a policy, and if you continue to add material to the article against consensus, you will find that your time on Wikipedia is difficult and potentially quite short. Please do not post on my talk page again. If you want to report me or Kzl55 for our behaviour, please do so at WP:AN/I. If you are genuinely interested in improving the article, please engage with the discussion on its talk page. Cordless Larry (talk) 12:43, 1 June 2018 (UTC)
Circular reasoning is not a reason; i.e. "bananas are bad, because bananas are bad". Also, why shouldn't I post on your talk page when in the space of 24 hours you appear to condone the contravention of two key Wikipedia policies? Yesterday it was WP:PRESERVE; today its WP:VANDALISM. Thylacoop5 (talk) 12:56, 1 June 2018 (UTC)
Please report me at WP:AN/I, then. Cordless Larry (talk) 13:01, 1 June 2018 (UTC)
I don't report users for first time offenses. I report users if their behavior becomes a pattern. (Note: I haven't gone through your editing history though.) Thylacoop5 (talk) 13:08, 1 June 2018 (UTC)
"Yesterday it was WP:PRESERVE; today its WP:VANDALISM" sounds like two offences to me. Cordless Larry (talk) 13:10, 1 June 2018 (UTC)
Just to clarify, do you now know that its against Wikipedia policy to blank encyclopedic content without providing a reason? Thylacoop5 (talk) 13:16, 1 June 2018 (UTC)
Of course I do, but that doesn't describe the situation here. Cordless Larry (talk) 13:59, 1 June 2018 (UTC)

Either way, an important takeaway from the past two days is that you have just sealed your reputation as an editor that is hostile against content creators; a fact that may affect how other editors view you; especially other content creators. Thylacoop5 (talk) 13:39, 1 June 2018 (UTC)

Your hostility to content creators

I spent five days searching and then compiling sources and later adding those sources to an article and then you deleted all that content in one swoop. Don't you think I'm justified as viewing you as hostile to content creators? Thylacoop5 (talk) 14:22, 1 June 2018 (UTC)

I am not going to reply to your posts on my talk page any more, Thylacoop5. If you think that you have a valid complaint about my behaviour, please report it at WP:AN/I. Otherwise, your posts are starting to look like attempts to intimidate me. Cordless Larry (talk) 14:29, 1 June 2018 (UTC)
Since when does raising concerns about wholesale indiscriminate blanking of sourced content count as intimidation? Thylacoop5 (talk) 15:12, 1 June 2018 (UTC)
When you accuse other editors of vandalism for reverting your non-consensus edits. Cordless Larry (talk) 15:19, 1 June 2018 (UTC)
Don't put words into my mouth. I never called anyone a vandal; the policy that you contravened merely happens to be located at WP:VANDALISM. Thylacoop5 (talk) 15:26, 1 June 2018 (UTC)
I'd say someone needs to read WP:WIKILAWYER. EEng 15:39, 1 June 2018 (UTC)
I would add WP:CIVIL to the reading list. --Kzl55 (talk) 17:11, 1 June 2018 (UTC)
And then he can go about lecturing everyone about it. EEng 18:15, 1 June 2018 (UTC)
Apologies. I can be excessive. Lol. Thylacoop5 (talk) 14:01, 2 June 2018 (UTC)
Thylacoop5, not funny. You will need to disclose your previous accounts if you continue with your current activity of silly badgering of experienced editors and administrators. Alex Shih (talk) 14:11, 2 June 2018 (UTC)

Your e-mail

Thanks, I hadn't realized that. When I did the re-direct for "People's Charter Foundation" and "Make Britain Great Again" I thought about doing a third for "X" but then I decided it was overkill.

I seem to be slamming into trouble with this e.g. the history of the Veterans Against Terrorism. I had no intention of creating an article for the VAT. I was just going to add a couple of lines to UKIP about VAT's support for them with a re-direct but ended up writing an article rather than see the whole thing deleted.

I had also planned to write an up-date for Far-right politics in the United Kingdom#2010s

  • Bill Weir, ex-EDL, setting up UK For Marches (UKFM).
  • Paul Pitt (aka) Paul Prodromou, former chair of the Essex branch of the EDL and the group he has set up, the South East Alliance
  • Andrew Edge and United Patriots of Britain

...but I've had such a problem with Talk:Football Lads Alliance#Comments on edits 2, which has much better refs then I'm not sure. --The Vintage Feminist (talk) 11:11, 5 June 2018 (UTC)

My intention wasn't to put you off writing about these groups, The Vintage Feminist. If the sources exist and you have enough interest to write the articles, go for it. Cordless Larry (talk) 21:20, 5 June 2018 (UTC)

Garrett TPE331

Hello Cordless Larry. Thanks for the concise and non-derogatory reply. As I understand from your comment [Editors who are or expect to be compensated for their contributions must disclose their employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any paid contributions. They must do this on their main user page, or on the talk page accompanying any paid contributions, or in edit summaries] what I need to do is make a statement on my "user page" (which I'm not sure what it is) that I've been paid or commissioned by a company to fix their technical page on the TPE331 aircraft engine. I just did so. At least I think I did. I have to admit, I find the "talk" pages confusing and figuring out how to get information in plain language is not terribly easy on Wikipedia. Can you advise whether I've now done this correctly?

And more important, how do I actually get the "Garrett TPE331" page renamed (moved) so that it becomes the "Honeywell TPE331" page?

Thanks, Jveeds (talk) 21:16, 9 June 2018 (UTC)jveeds (did I do that right?)

I've moved your comment to the bottom of the page, Jveeds. You can learn more about how talk pages work by reading Wikipedia:Tutorial/Talk pages. You appear to have made the disclosure on your user page. Personally, I prefer use of Template:Paid to do this, but I don't think that is strictly necessary. As for moving the article, this has already been done. If you want to request such changes in future, I suggest following the instructions at WP:COIREQ. Jed Brian Wiki Page

This will be the third time I have created a writer/director Jed Brian Wikipedia page to have it taken down. No one has given me a reason as to why? Jed is a amazon top 10 selling horror director who is Google verified and has plenty of news outlets to use for citing sources. Can you please let me know what was done wrong on this page for you to take it down? Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 192.161.198.36 (talk) 09:55, 15 June 2018 (UTC)

The page I deleted today was a talk page (Talk:Jed Brian) that had incorrectly been used as the location to create an article. Jed Brian was deleted last year as a result of the discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Jed Brian. If you think that the concerns expressed in that discussion can be overcome, then the way to create an article would be to write a draft and submit it for review, following the instructions at Wikipedia:Your first article.Cordless Larry (talk) 10:00, 15 June 2018 (UTC)

@Buckshot06 and Cordless Larry: Having given Thylacoop5 a chance to defend the article, and having also done further checking for relevant information, I have now deleted the article. Wine in a can article

Hello, you deleted an article which I uploaded last week on the emerging wine in a can product category. I believe you may have thought that it was a promotional piece however my intention was to inform on the amazing growth of the category over the past few years. As this is my first article, do you have any suggestions as to how I can improve it as I tried to follow the article wizard etc, use references etc, but that obviously was not enough.

thank you,Stokesirene (talk) 05:51, 18 June 2018 (UTC)

Hello, Stokesirene. My main advice would be to submit draft the article for review rather than moving it to mainspace yourself. Secondly, have a read of WP:NPOV and WP:VERIFY. Don't include anything in the article that you cannot provide a source for. Don't include opinions such as "the authoritative voice of the grape and wine industry in the USA since 1919", "as Asia is not a traditional market for wine, a new generation of consumers craving quality wines in convenient, small format packaging, quickly warmed to Barokes wine in a can products" or "Barokes' success has ensured that wine producers all over the world have seen what wine in a can is able to achieve and motivated them to enter this global category", without explaining who offered those opinions (we call this POV attribution - see WP:ATTRIBUTEPOV). Finally, do not include external links in the body of the article; see WP:REFB for how to format references. Cordless Larry (talk) 07:14, 18 June 2018 (UTC)

"under the line"

Hi Larry, can you enlighten me from your extensive experience of Wikipedia editing what the Wikipedia submissions definition of "under the line" is (in your comment about Fred Skolnik)? Thanks. AndrewCorser (talk) 17:39, 20 June 2018 (UTC)

Hi AndrewCorser. That wasn't a Wikipedia term, and having checked, the phrase is apparently "below the line" (use 4 here). What I meant is that those comments you were citing are user-contributed and we have no way of verifying that they were written by Skolnik. We therefore shouldn't be including this material in articles, least of all a BLP. Cordless Larry (talk) 19:10, 20 June 2018 (UTC)

Regarding Guy Van Nueten's page

Hi cordless Larry

Regarding the Guy Van Nueten page, it is a translation from the Dutch Guy Van Nueten's wikipage and I was wondering how these two could be linked to one another. Could you please inform me if the 'warning'-sign can be removed on top of the English page, seen that I did not receive money for my work and I am independantly trying to upload this for months now? Thank you very much in advance, Kat — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kat Van Tichelen Belgium (talkcontribs) 09:50, 22 June 2018 (UTC)

Hello, Kat Van Tichelen Belgium. You can add an inter-language link by clicking on the small language settings icon (a cog) next to "Languages" on the left-hand side of the page. As regards the paid editing message, that was added by Chris troutman, so I would be interested to hear his thoughts on that. Cordless Larry (talk) 11:21, 22 June 2018 (UTC)
I've removed the "paid" banner on Kat Van Tichelen Belgium's assertion. Most of these articles look promotional to me. The request by a SPA to remove the banner itself sounds questionable. Maintenance templates exist to let other editors know which articles have problems to be addressed. Why would that bother you, Kat Van Tichelen Belgium? The appeal to your months of work evinces a cognitive bias; articles have to meet standards even if you takes you twenty years to get there. Chris Troutman (talk) 11:53, 22 June 2018 (UTC)

Anuntul de UK

Hello Larry,

Could you please help me with a suggestion. I am the founder of Anuntul de UK - the biggest website for the Romanian community in the UK. We are the second largest community in the UK after the Polish community.

Is it possible to create a page on wikipedia for Anuntul de UK?

Many thanks

Marius — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.41.77.55 (talk) 12:12, 22 June 2018 (UTC)

Hello, Marius. That depends on whether Anuntul de UK has been written about at some depth in independent sources such as newspapers and magazines. Please see Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies) or, for a simpler explanation, WP:GOLDENRULE. Cordless Larry (talk) 12:18, 22 June 2018 (UTC)

Windrush scandal article

Hi Larry

The Windrush scandal article (which was originally 'forked off' from the Amber Rudd article), is barely coherent in its present form, but is getting page views in the many thousands. The section remaining in Rudd's article, is equally muddled (though less important).

The article bears all the hallmarks of being hurriedly written and added to, but left in a state which would be barely comprehensible to anyone who didn't already know most of what there was to know.

I've left a 'help wanted' post on the UK politics project but would be grateful if you know of any other ways to call in help from UK-ish editors. (please ping me if replying here or use article talk page - which I'm watching). Pincrete (talk) 22:53, 24 June 2018 (UTC)

Hi Pincrete. I actually looked to see if an article had been started a few days after the scandal broke, and didn't find anything so added a brief mention to British African-Caribbean people, which I see has since been expanded a little. You could try posting on the talk page of that article? This strikes me as a good topic for an edit-a-thon, although I don't know enough about them to know if there are any upcoming that it would be within the scope of. Sorry that that's not a very helpful answer! Cordless Larry (talk) 16:27, 25 June 2018 (UTC)
Thanks, good idea (Brit Af-Car) this all seemed very daunting yesterday, but I've since created a 'background' section, (without which the topic is an incomprehensible series of assertions). I've also posted on a few related topics (immigration law etc), in the hope of pulling in some expertise. Pincrete (talk) 16:59, 25 June 2018 (UTC)

DYK for Celia Brackenridge

On 28 June 2018, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Celia Brackenridge, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that funding for Celia Brackenridge's research into child protection in football was ended because the sport "was not ready for a gay former lacrosse international rummaging through its dirty linen"? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Celia Brackenridge. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Celia Brackenridge), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Is there a way I can block strangers from my talk page?

Someone barged into my user-talk page to yell at me for editing my own user-talk page. Is there a way I can stop this from happening again? Please advise. William Sherman, Esq. (talk) 14:45, 4 July 2018 (UTC)

That would be me, I guess. I suppose that you could request an interaction ban, William Sherman, Esq., but you would be better off just avoiding editing other users' comments so that there was no need to warn you about this, and to avoid calling other editors fascists. Cordless Larry (talk) 15:14, 4 July 2018 (UTC)

You would be better off refraining from ganging up on strangers & stomping all over their user-talk pages. FlightTime ran to you whining about how I was mean to him ON MY OWN TALK PAGE & you just couldn't resist piling on me & yapping about how evil I am. I didn't initiate OR WANT interactions with either of y'all. If he didn't like what I did that he was complaining to me about, he was free to delete it; I wouldn't have cared or tried to turn it into an edit war, because I have a life. Both of you crossed my line by invading my page. I'm no longer going to open said page because I'm sick of this. William Sherman, Esq. (talk) 15:25, 4 July 2018 (UTC)

Thanks, but FlightTime did not come to me. I had your user talk page on my watchlist from when I welcomed you to Wikipedia. I therefore saw you editing FlightTime's comment, and reverted this and warned you not to do it again, as is standard practice. WP:TPO is very clear on this: "Never edit or move someone's comment to change its meaning, even on your own talk page". Cordless Larry (talk) 21:54, 4 July 2018 (UTC)

MVD Scam

Hi,

You should add the links back to the MVD Entertaiment Group page as their is a criminal case about them not paying royalties to vendors, hence the comments are valid and should be listed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 141.136.88.153 (talk) 20:51, 11 July 2018 (UTC)

If this has been reported in reliable sources such as newspapers, then it can be added, but Facebook reviews are user-generated and therefore not considered reliable. Cordless Larry (talk) 20:59, 11 July 2018 (UTC)

Giorgi Sigua

Hi, I would like to discuss your decision to speedy delete Giorgi Sigua article.

The person was head of the government administration (the National tourist administrstion in Georgia - the independent ex-USSR state, not the state in USA). He is a founder of a very big music festival.

The article is quite well sourced.

If you found some "promotional" words in the article, you could delete them.

If you found some unsourced text in the article, you could delete it.

Anyway, please send me to perohanych@gmail.com code of the article or restore it in my private space, as I plan to create an article about the National Tourist Administration of Georgia and include information about Giorgi Sigua into the article.

Thank you in advance!

BTW, will you take part in Wikimania in Cape Town? I would gladly talk with you. --Perohanych (talk) 06:59, 16 July 2018 (UTC)

Standard practice is to decline requests for the text of articles deleted as promotional, Perohanych. I would like to ask the deleting administrator, Jimfbleak, what he thinks here. Cordless Larry (talk) 07:11, 16 July 2018 (UTC)
Thanks for ping. It's not only promotional in tone for him and his festival, it's also basically an unsourced biography of a living person; although it has three refs, one is his festival one is a dead link and one appears to be a press release. As a source for another article it's therefore useless. Personally, I'd decline, but since Perohanych's request has come to you I have no problem if take a different view Jimfbleak - talk to me? 12:29, 16 July 2018 (UTC)
Sorry, Perohanych, but having reminded myself of the article content, I agree with Jimfbleak. This isn't the first time you've run into this problem, so can I suggest that you familiarise yourself with WP:NPOV and WP:BLP before you create any more such articles? Cordless Larry (talk) 16:30, 16 July 2018 (UTC)
Does it mean that I have to save all pages I create in some private space? Not resonable. --Perohanych (talk) 21:23, 18 July 2018 (UTC)
No it doesn't, Perohanych. It does mean that you need to make sure that anything you write is sufficiently sourced and neutrally written (and not a copyright violation, like I just discovered Inclusive Development Index was). Cordless Larry (talk) 21:29, 18 July 2018 (UTC)
Nice to have a personal guru! I do not remember what exactly was in Inclusive Development Index, but the article was very short. As far as I understand it is not forbiden to use one or two sentences from any source without rewriting ? --Perohanych (talk) 21:41, 18 July 2018 (UTC)
It was a copy of the first half of this page, Perohanych. Copying half of a source, without using quote marks, is unacceptable, I'm afraid. Please see WP:NFCCEG for more information. Cordless Larry (talk) 21:50, 18 July 2018 (UTC)

I'm so happy, that someone is spending his time by checking my contributions! Thank you indeed! --Perohanych (talk) 21:29, 18 July 2018 (UTC)

Hi, I would like to retrieve deleted material

Hi,

I would like to retrieve the deleted material of my previously edited page for future improvement. Deletion info as follows:

17:51, 4 April 2018 Cordless Larry (talk | contribs) deleted page David Hew Choong Jeng (G11: Unambiguous advertising or promotion (TW))

Please advise accordingly.

Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Chloe Choo (talkcontribs) 14:21, 21 July 2018 (UTC)

Hello, Chloe Choo. Unfortunately, the content of the deleted article is not suitable for use on Wikipedia, being too promotional, so I am unwilling to restore it, even to user space. If you wanted to have another go at writing an article, you would need to do so from scratch, ensuring that it is neutrally written and fully referenced. Please also see WP:COI, which may be relevant here. Cordless Larry (talk) 20:45, 21 July 2018 (UTC)

Oldest cat

Yes, you made a mistake! I was simply adding some data, but it would seem that I am not a reliable source. I have posted a blog post about the death of my cat https://wordpress.com/post/moodythomas.wordpress.com/11 but it would seem that even that is not considered a reliable source. How about my family and friends who knew/know of the age of my cat? Are they not reliable sources?

I have no reason or agenda to make up the age of my cat. I added her to the list so that she could take her place among other cats who lived to a great age. So, because I never contacted a newspaper or TV station about my cat and her age she's ineligible to be on this list? Am I assumed to be a liar unless proven otherwise? Well, I'm not a liar and you are biased!

Thosmoody (talk) 14:04, 3 August 2018 (UTC) Thomas H. Moody

Hello, Thosmoody. I am not calling you a liar, but the standard for inclusion in Wikipedia is verifiability, not truth. Please see WP:VERIFY for an explanation; basically, our readers need to be able to check that the material comes from a reliable, published source. Cordless Larry (talk) 15:10, 3 August 2018 (UTC)

Fertility rates in the United Kingdom

You can verify easily. Go to the source https://ourworldindata.org/fertility-rate go to the section of the page "Children born per woman" in where appears an interactive map and look it while you advance the years manually.--BrugesFR (talk) 06:29, 7 August 2018 (UTC)

In the same section you can have a part in where is written "SOURCES", that have the foundations and organizations that collected that data.--BrugesFR (talk) 06:32, 7 August 2018 (UTC)

You you mean this, BrugesFR? If so, the data only seems to go back to 1950. Cordless Larry (talk) 06:39, 7 August 2018 (UTC)
Ah, I see now. You mean this, right? If so, the reference should link directly to that URL. Cordless Larry (talk) 06:43, 7 August 2018 (UTC)

I did not want to place that link so people can see which organizations collected that data. but it's ok you win, put that link. Now I can revert that what you said that the link say nothing?--BrugesFR (talk) 06:58, 7 August 2018 (UTC)

It's best, wherever possible, to provide a specific link to the data rather than a long page featuring lots of charts, so yes, I think you should use that link, BrugesFR. Cordless Larry (talk) 07:03, 7 August 2018 (UTC)

Ok i already added that link. Thank you for the contribution.--BrugesFR (talk) 07:04, 7 August 2018 (UTC)

Oh, what fun, Doug Weller. I'd only spotted their one edit to Somalis because it's on my watchlist. These changes to sourced population figures are always a pain, because it usually takes a fair bit of digging to check the source for the correct figure. Sock

Hello! Could you please give this guy a quick block? It's our favorite sock. This gave him away. Thanks! Surtsicna (talk) 12:11, 12 November 2018 (UTC)

Also pinging RegentsPark and NeilN. This guy has been pestering us for 9 years, promoting conspiracy theories and hoaxes. His persistence is astonishing. Wikipedia is just one of many platforms where he is fighting "papists" and claiming his "royal rights". He has indicated that he does not intend to ever give up. Is there nothing we can do to keep him away for good? Surtsicna (talk) 12:20, 12 November 2018 (UTC)

Hello, Surtsicna. I've not actually blocked someone for sockpuppetry before and I'm not sure if this requires an SPI. Could you perhaps ask an admin with more experience of blocking socks? Cordless Larry (talk) 09:25, 13 November 2018 (UTC)
Hello! I've contacted you, as well as RegentsPark and NeilN, since you have protected Talk:Bosnia and Herzegovina several times because of the nonsense posted by this guy. I am sorry for not giving more info; I wrongly assumed you would recognize him. Here he is in August; note the word papist. He has had dozens of accounts blocked over the years. Surtsicna (talk) 10:02, 13 November 2018 (UTC)
Yes, I know exactly who you're referring to, Surtsicna, but as I explained, I don't have any experience with blocking socks. I think it would be best to file an SPI, or ask an admin more experienced with socks. Cordless Larry (talk) 10:07, 13 November 2018 (UTC)
I've opened Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Bosnipedian, Surtsicna, because I think it's best to keep a record of all these socks. Cordless Larry (talk) 11:51, 13 November 2018 (UTC)
I've blocked them as a duck. Agree with Cordless Larry that an SPI should always be filed so that we can keep track of the socks. --regentspark (comment) 15:35, 13 November 2018 (UTC)

Hello, TommyHot. You can get to a user's talk page by clicking on the "Talk" tab from their user page. To find their user page, you either need to click on their username somewhere, or Type "User:" followed by their username into the search box. Huon's user page is User:Huon and their talk page is User talk:Huon. If you have any further questions as you learn about editing Wikipedia, I'd recommend that you ask them at Wikipedia:Teahouse. need assistance and guidance in publishing/ creation of an article

Hi Larry,

This is Asha.

I am working on creating a Wikipedia page on Dr. Abhilash Pillai.

Dr. Abhilash Pillai is a play director, pedagogue, scholar of contemporary Indian Theatre, and has directed more than 30 productions. He has directed plays in various Indian languages and English; has contributed articles on theatre in leading publications in India and the U.K.

I have submitted it for publishing and received feedback from the editors, which I found difficult to comprehend. I request you to kindly have a look at the following link and guide me.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Abhilash_Pillai — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ashna ashok (talkcontribs) 07:32, 17 December 2018 (UTC)

Hello, Ashna ashok. You're best off asking this type of question at Wikipedia:Teahouse, which is a help forum for new editors, but based on a very quick look at the article, I'd say the main problems are a lack of sources (every statement in an article should ideally be supported by a reference to a reliable, published source) and that it is written more like a CV than an encyclopedia article. I'd recommend looking at some existing articles to get an idea of what one should look like. The Laurence Olivier article is very good, for instance, and while a draft doesn't need to meet the same high standards as that, it should give you some idea of how an article should be written. If you've got any other questions or need further help, do ask at the Teahouse. Cordless Larry (talk) 09:34, 17 December 2018 (UTC)

Merry Merry

Happy Christmas!
Hello CL,
Early in A Child's Christmas in Wales the young Dylan and his friend Jim Prothero witness smoke pouring from Jim's home. After the conflagration has been extinguished Dylan writes that

Nobody could have had a noisier Christmas Eve. And when the firemen turned off the hose and were standing in the wet, smoky room, Jim's Aunt, Miss. Prothero, came downstairs and peered in at them. Jim and I waited, very quietly, to hear what she would say to them. She said the right thing, always. She looked at the three tall firemen in their shining helmets, standing among the smoke and cinders and dissolving snowballs, and she said, "Would you like anything to read?"

My thanks to you for your efforts to keep the 'pedia readable in case the firemen chose one of our articles :-) Best wishes to you and yours and happy editing in 2019. MarnetteD|Talk 18:35, 18 December 2018 (UTC)
Many thanks, and best wishes of the season to you too, MarnetteD. Cordless Larry (talk) 09:30, 19 December 2018 (UTC)

When does this happen?

"If you wish to discuss the matter privately, you can email the OTRS team at info-en-q@wikimedia.org. Your email will reach a volunteer team of experienced users who help with biographical articles and privacy-related matters. Note that if the matter is one of editorial discretion, you may need to discuss it with the article's editors."

All I get from the anonymous black hole of Wikipedia is standardized messages, but no actual dialogue.

I have been blocked from Wikipedia because I tried to communicate needed changes in my "biography" (one which includes a lot opinion from a hostile local newspaper). Please do communicate with me directly if you would be willing to consider updating what you are posting to the world about me.

- Spaniards (Spain) are considered white people? And the rest of southern Europe? (Italians, Greeks, etc.)

- And in the United States?

JamesOredan (talk) 22:10, 19 February 2019 (UTC)

I was wondering if Spaniards are considered white by Americans and other Europeans.

And the Italians, Portuguese and Greeks are considered white? JamesOredan (talk) 23:32, 20 February 2019 (UTC)

I would think that most people would consider them to be white, yes, JamesOredan - although of course, there are racial minorities in those counties too. Cordless Larry (talk) 22:45, 20 February 2019 (UTC)

I have a problem with you so-called edits of Raymone Bain's Wikipedia page...Sentences with no periods behind them; misinformation...who told you she "volunteered" at Jimmy Carter's Campaign? Once her page was edited, why did you go back and erase the changes? Who references The White House thewhitehouse, as you have in her bio? Who's paying you to hack and diminish and demean this woman? Of all the bios of Wikipedia, Raymone Bain's accomplishments continues to be diminished. Why? Who are you Larry? thewhitehouse? Incorrect grammar? I think this needs to be discussed on CNN...This black woman has been hacked for years...why, because of jealousy behind the positions she held with Michael Jackson, that you keep erasing???? It's time for you, and other haters to stop it. NOW!!!!! Mightypub1 (talk) 17:39, 22 February 2019 (UTC)

Hello, Mightypub1. I'm not being paid, and I don't think the existing version of the article is perfect by any means, but I reverted one of the edits you made because it added unsourced and promotional content. Articles shouldn't use language such as "iconic and legendary" in Wikipedia's voice. Please see WP:NPOV, and propose any further edits on the talk page of the article. Advice

Larry, since you are active and I have a question regarding a new user, I hope you don't mind if I ask you. What should be done about this? As I see it it's an attempt to draft a page in template space; on the other hand they seem to have added some template code to the bottom. I suspect that they're just very confused but would appreciate your more experienced advice :-) Thanks, Wham2001 (talk) 10:01, 24 February 2019 (UTC)

Hi Wham2001. I'd suggest moving that to draft space. It might not be entirely clear what the new editor is trying to achieve, but it doesn't belong in template space in its present state. It would also be worth encouraging the editor to ask for help at the Teahouse, although I see that they've already received an invitation on their talk page. Cordless Larry (talk) 11:51, 24 February 2019 (UTC)
Thanks for the advice - I've moved the page and left them a note. Best, Wham2001 (talk) 14:59, 24 February 2019 (UTC)
