May drive

Hey, I started a rough draft for the next drive page. I made some changes with regard to 2009 article awards, but I figure we should all discuss it a little more to make sure the changes are okay. Let me know what you think. Thanks. Torchiest talkedits 20:25, 12 April 2011 (UTC)

Yes, I agree we should try this out this time and do it instead of a Requests page bonus. I have done a few edits. Thanks for getting this started. --Diannaa (Talk) 20:52, 12 April 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for initiating the copyedit. I have fixed the typos in the lead. --Redtigerxyz Talk 05:08, 13 April 2011 (UTC)

Thanks, I'll get going again on it after lunch. --Diannaa (Talk) 14:21, 13 April 2011 (UTC)
I am done with the article, except had one more question, which I posted on the article talk page. --Diannaa (Talk) 03:21, 14 April 2011 (UTC)
That sentence that gone wrong horribly with typos and missing words. Please check again. When you are done, please add the GOCE tag on the talk and remove my note about GOCE pending from the GA nomination tag from the talk. Thanks. --Redtigerxyz Talk 16:34, 14 April 2011 (UTC)
Thanks a lot. --Redtigerxyz Talk 16:19, 15 April 2011 (UTC)

Hey Diannaa. How are you? Can you please copyedit the article? Its nominated to be ITN so it would great if you can do it : ) -- The Egyptian Liberal (talk) 15:26, 13 April 2011 (UTC)

MfD RSMAS

We have worked out a convoluted and perilous way to handle the RSMAS GA review, and I have added the deletion template. But I asking you to be more understanding than Ryulong and allow me to continue contributing the articles and bringing them up the GA standards. Please change your vote so as to not create a precedent that would subject me to futher MfDs. Thanks, Racepacket (talk) 03:07, 14 April 2011 (UTC)

Sorry, I don't think I understand your question here. I object to people working on articles in a separate sandbox rather than in the main space, but I do not object to you contributing to articles whether they are up for promotion or not. There is no need for your work on this wiki to be convoluted or perilous, and I did not place any restrictions on your contributions. Perhaps you could enlighten me. --Diannaa (Talk) 03:17, 14 April 2011 (UTC)
Another admin, not you, conditioned my text contributions on being submitted to a volunteer to be cleared before they are allowed to be posted in article space. The procedure we have adopted is to put the text to be modified into a subpage, finalize it, and then have it cleared once, so as to not overwork the volunteer. I have successfully used that procedure on other articles without objection until Ryulong objected within minutes of my copying over the RSMAS article. By forcing me to edit in article space, I have to trust the GA reviewer to clear each edit rather than my usual, highly-expert volunteer. I will probably should ask the volunteer to review it a second time at the end of the GA review to make sure that we did not miss anything. Thank you for your understanding. Racepacket (talk) 04:20, 14 April 2011 (UTC)
The best way to handle this restriction is likely to post your proposed edits on the article talk page. Thank you for explaining this to me. --Diannaa (Talk) 04:25, 14 April 2011 (UTC)

114.134.82.136

The IP in question has been repeatedly and unilaterally reformatting at least a dozen pages. They may be good faith attempts to improve the articles, but he is changing translations, inserting poor formatting styles (bolding items where they need not be bold, removing the use of the colon in lists of items, utilizing the HTML line break in lists), and generally being unresponsive when being told to not use those formatting styles. I posted to ANI on Tuesday to seek assistance but only two people responded and no one took any god damn action against the IP. He needs to be blocked to at least get through to him that the edits he is making are not welcome. This is just the latest in several IPs that have performed this unwelcome article formatting and he seems to be using this one much longer than any of the others.—Ryūlóng (竜龙) 19:42, 14 April 2011 (UTC)

These appear to be good-faith attempts to improve the encyclopedia, not vandalism. No one is going to block the IP for these things; it's just too bitey. Please take it to the talk page and negotiate. --Diannaa (Talk) 19:59, 14 April 2011 (UTC)
I took it to the IP's talk page but he persists in making these edits that one person at ANI agreed are not constructive. If the IP will not respond, then blocking is the only course of action to get him to respond.—Ryūlóng (竜龙) 20:16, 14 April 2011 (UTC)
I personally am not going to block someone for these edits:
That's their last four edits. That's not vandalism or blockable activity, so sorry. Both User:EdJohnston and Chris Cunningham, who have been admins for much longer than me, looked at these edits too and failed to block the IP. --Diannaa (Talk) 20:31, 14 April 2011 (UTC) Not these specific edits, but the ones on the 12th, when you posted at ANI. --Diannaa (Talk) 20:35, 14 April 2011 (UTC)
Turboranger diff: he's unilaterally changed several characters' names without discussion. Liveman & Flashman diffs: he's using inappropriate formatting, bolding items when I have asked him not to and replacing the use of the colon with a hyphen as well as removing formatting that helps the page (removes an extra set of parentheses). Sharivan: the unnecessary bolding. He's been told to stop making those edits yet he persists.—Ryūlóng (竜龙) 20:21, 16 April 2011 (UTC)

Help, please

I've now received three erroneous warnings, the last a level three from you, all for the same legitimate edit to restore Natalie Portman's birth name. An acknowledgment and correction of this little Wiki injustice would be appreciated. Thanks, 99.149.87.151 (talk) 03:50, 16 April 2011 (UTC)

Yikes. Some days Huggle is not all its cracked up to be. --Diannaa (Talk) 03:51, 16 April 2011 (UTC)

Be careful with Huggle.

Not too fast, there!. This user was reverting a revert of another user which accidentally re-added the vandalism (I mean, the registered edit accidentally added the vandalism, which was initially added by a now blocked user). I've removed the warning. Buggie111 (talk) 03:53, 16 April 2011 (UTC)

I know, the post directly above yours was about this same mistake. Hershlag! Who knew! I have posted an apology on the IP's page. --Diannaa (Talk) 03:56, 16 April 2011 (UTC)
Same here! Sorry for this message, my computer was slow and the above title didn't sound like a Huggle false positive title. Buggie111 (talk) 03:58, 16 April 2011 (UTC)
My computer was slow too, till User:Jack Merridew told me to switch to Firefox. No longer am I attempting to make memory circuits using stone knives and bearskins --Diannaa (Talk) 04:03, 16 April 2011 (UTC)
I'm using Firefox here. It's the pesky IMVU that keeps reinstalling on my computer that are slowing things down. Buggie111 (talk) 04:08, 16 April 2011 (UTC)

Overview requested

Hi Diannaa; I've filed a vandalism report on this user [1], whose sweeping edits have not been restricted to cutting up an oversized article, but include a mixed bag of edits, some plainly disruptive, others broadly altering terminologies used in the conflict...one is suspicious of such thorough revisions of high-profile and politically charged articles. I've had no response, and if you're inclined to have a look, it would be appreciated. Signing off, 99.149.87.151 (talk) 05:59, 17 April 2011 (UTC)

This user will likely be blocked soon as a sock puppet of SuperblySpiffingPerson. --Diannaa (Talk) 16:07, 17 April 2011 (UTC)
Yes, and for all that, a two day block. Honestly, I give up. Thanks anyway. 99.184.128.194 (talk) 16:27, 17 April 2011 (UTC)
That block is for the disruptive editing; there may be additional blocks laid down if he is proved a sock. --Diannaa (Talk) 16:35, 17 April 2011 (UTC)
I love your edit summary [2], but truth is, I'm probably older than you, and years ago was asked to become an administrator by two different sysops. Many articles and barnstars later I'm trying to kick this addiction, am semi-retired, and hoping this latest business will convince me to get out altogether. Fat chance. 99.184.128.194 (talk) 16:53, 17 April 2011 (UTC)
You are hooked, bwahahahahaha. --Diannaa (Talk) 16:56, 17 April 2011 (UTC)

Mentorship on copy editing

Hello there Diannaa,

Would I be able to take part in the Mentorship programme with you please? (GOCE)

Regards,

RorWiki (talk) 14:48, 18 April 2011 (UTC)

Sure, that would be great. Normally what I have been doing is critiquing copy edits and giving feedback and advice on improvements that can be made. If you have an article you would like me to reveiw to get started, please let me know. --Diannaa (Talk)
Actually, I don't think the Guild of Copy Editing is for me. Thanks all the same :) RorWiki (talk) 08:06, 21 April 2011 (UTC)

Deleted image files

Hi there Diannaa, I see that you were the editor who deleted File:JessicaWild.jpg, File:Ravendragqueen.jpg, and File:MorganMcMichaels.jpg, which I uploaded. I understand the rationale; however, these files were unfairly tagged after my edits were targeted by a vindictive anonymous user. Could these possibly be restored so that actual dialogue on them could occur? Thank you, Bouncehoper (talk) 18:12, 20 April 2011 (UTC)

Hi, Bouncehoper. I have posted these three pics at Wikipedia:Deletion review. This way we can get input from some uninvolved users as to whether or not the deletion was correct. Regards, --Diannaa (Talk) 18:54, 20 April 2011 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) I commented at the Deletion Review concerning the circumstances surrounding whoever nominated the images and their motives/possible status. Don't know if they fail NFCC #1/#8 or not, but I don't see the nominator acting in truly good faith to begin with, which sucks. They seem more interested in hounding the uploader. See this for more background. The nominator was advised not to file an AIV report on Bouncehoper because it would be unsuccessful, but they did it anyway.[3] It failed as predicted. Cheers... Doc talk 04:44, 21 April 2011 (UTC)
Yah, regardless of the motives of the nominator, the photos do not qualify for fair-use. Regrettable. BTW, this whole range can be taken out with one tight little range block that would affect virtually no one else. We need to monitor this and take action if the harrassment continues. Thank you for the information. -- Diannaa (Talk) 05:28, 21 April 2011 (UTC)
Cool - good to know about the rangeblock! I know nothing about the "black magic" technical stuff, but I did see that all the IPs are extremely close together, and I do not believe the user's claims of only making the "good" edits from them. They did start using another range,[4] but only after I let them use most of their other IPs in my little "Q&A" ;> I'll be watching, and Cheers :> Doc talk 05:45, 21 April 2011 (UTC)
The other range is another kettle of fish, it is Sky.com which would hit a few more users, but the only person who seems to have used that range in April is this user, so I don't see a lot of collateral damage if that range got a wee block either. I will notify Bouncehoper so he can keep in the loop. --Diannaa (Talk) 05:52, 21 April 2011 (UTC)

Thank you!

I really appreciate your time and effort in copy editing the Luke Schenn article. A second set of eyes is really helpful on an article I have read so many times. Canada Hky (talk) 23:33, 21 April 2011 (UTC)

File namespace related noticeboards

Hi. I noticed your post at AN/I regarding the text logo thing. I was wondering if there are any noticeboards related to file namespace or image issues? Could you list any you know off for me please? I want to add them to my watchlist. Sven Manguard Wha? 21:13, 23 April 2011 (UTC)

I have been learning how to do things by watch-listing problematic images and seeing how other admins handle things. And by nominating stuff for deletion on the Commons and getting schooled by Courcelles. There are some notice boards at the Commons including a village pump, AN, help desk, and a copyright questions notice board. Another great place to learn about copyright issues is to follow the goings-on at Wikipedia:Possibly unfree files. Hope his helps. Regards, --Diannaa (Talk) 21:39, 23 April 2011 (UTC)
I have a passionate hatred of Commons. They have shown repeatedly that they don't see it as being worth the effort to inform the local projects when files used by the local projects are put up for deletion. Until it becomes policy to keep the rest of the projects they work with in the loop, my participation there will be minimal, i.e. only when Wikipedia related activity forces me to go there. My most recent creation {{NeverCommons}} is going to accompany all future releases of my work.
As for stuff on Wikipedia itself, is there anything other than Wikipedia:Possibly unfree files that deals with files? If not, creating a noriceboard for files might be a good idea. In my experience there are a lot of good file workers, but we/they tend not to know about or come in contact with each other regularly, and tend not to know about file related issues the way we/they probably should. Sven Manguard Wha? 22:09, 23 April 2011 (UTC)
One reason there are problems at the Commons is because they don't have enough admins (an even worse shortage than we are experiencing). A file discussion notice board is a good idea. People could learn and discuss stuff. Me likeeee. This should be a section at the Village Pump. --Diannaa (Talk) 22:19, 23 April 2011 (UTC)
I found this Wikipedia:Media copyright questions, which seems to be for basic copyright questions. --Diannaa (Talk) 00:06, 24 April 2011 (UTC)

James A. Garfield

Thanks Dianna for copy editing James A. Garfield. I checked for spelling and grammar, however, a copy editor can make the article look good. I plan on adding one more section on "Civil Rights" in the Presidency section. Cmguy777 (talk) 04:38, 24 April 2011 (UTC)

FWIW - I have plenty of respect for you and most of Jack's friends. You probably don't know him like I do. I wouldn't even know him at all if it weren't for a former wiki-friend (who is now retired) that was ruthlessly harassed by him, and she had asked me to intercede on her behalf. It all went downhill from there. Please don't confuse problems between Jack and myself for anything that would deserve any more attention than it's worth. Which is nothing. He thinks I'm a troll, and vice-versa. Diffs speak louder than words. Cheers, Diannaa... :> Doc talk 08:53, 24 April 2011 (UTC)

I am creating a new thread for this remark so people do not get the impression that Jack Merridew is in some way related to the problematic IP being discussed above. I have many talk page watchers. I am pretty sure you are talking about Wildhartlivie, who was interested in movie stars and their associated tables. She was of the opinion that sortability is a personal or stylistic choice, and adding colour and rowspans and the like pretties them up for the reader. Trouble is, not everyone looks at Wikipedia with their eyes. Some people read it with a screen reader, because they are blind. But Wildhartlivie was prepared to defend the colour blue, and the other things, to the death practically, and all the time Jack was right. Adding all these things to the tables destroys their accessibility. Some of the HTML we are using is obsolete or will be shortly, and at some point might have to be removed from our articles... all three million of them. If Jack is prepared to spend his free time cleaning up code and improving the accessibility of tables, I think we should be cheering him on, not making the task more difficult by constantly bringing up things that happened in the long-ago. I'm not saying I agree with everything he has ever done; I probably know him better than you as I have read vast swathes of the history, But I still support him and will continue to support him. Sincerely, --Diannaa (Talk) 16:22, 24 April 2011 (UTC)
Of course he's talking about WHL. You might ask Rossrs about her (he worked closely with WHL and came around to my view of things). And ping RexxS re the accessibility issues; he's taken things even further, to good effect. What Doc's doing is pure battleground. What's the first thing he did when he noticed this IP editing? Outted it. What's he do after I call him on his bullshite? Go kick IPs. Doc's the one here for the hunt. 125.162.150.88 (talk) 01:57, 25 April 2011 (UTC)

gratuitous colour

I saw this; see also: this and this; same shite, over and over and over, again. {{University of Central Florida Athletics}}, too. It's all inappropriate lipstick on a pig. 125.162.150.88 (talk) 02:11, 25 April 2011 (UTC)

Yes, ok. --Diannaa (Talk) 04:20, 25 April 2011 (UTC)
See Greens. I noticed that the colouring was masking redlinks in the group column (Presidential tickets) as well has hiding valid bluelinks, which is distinctly unhelpful. Also, there's a loose 'n' in the dems, Parties by nstate... 125.162.150.88 (talk) 11:35, 25 April 2011 (UTC)
The rep and dem ones use Bold to convey information. What do you think? What happens to someone looking at it with a screen reader. Does that work? --Diannaa (Talk) 15:36, 25 April 2011 (UTC)
Such use of bold is inappropriate; MOS:ACCESS#Text; many will miss the information. It is amazing how people who would not call someone a nigger or burn a Jew will still do so many common things that bias the encyclopedia against some. Accessibility is not just about visual access; it about the content being open. Anyway, bold is a purely presentational effect; MediaWiki isn't even using the strong-element. In many ways, it is stuck in 2001. The project is so unimpressive because most people are unimpressive. A "‡" leading to a note would be better; note that the next character over in the symbols tools is a cross ("†"), a typographical bias from the middle ages.
You know why the WMF and AC don't have any content standards or rulings? They don't care what the content of the project is, just that many visit and that many participate. Most of what emerges is mediocre; see Special:Random, Special:Random, Special:Random, Special:Random, Special:Random
nb: Temporary Government of the Democratic Federal Yugoslavia. 125.162.150.88 (talk) 04:33, 26 April 2011 (UTC)
Gee thanks for that; now I'm blind. I found a whole series of templates designed to add gratuitous color to political articles; I will have to dig around after work as now I can't remember what they were called. I've been meaning to show you Bishop of Argyll; I was going to fix this one myself but then I discovered it is part of a series; see the nav box at the bottom of the page. I could make it my life's work to fix that series of articles.
On another topic, the people on the Ted Bundy article are talking about converting the bulleted lists to tables. Do you have an opinion? Your input would be appreciated. Thanks. --Diannaa (Talk) 14:24, 26 April 2011 (UTC)
The Bishop & co are a mess; we let anyone edit here, so expect anything, especially stupidity. Those lists are semantically *list*, not tabular data. Using tables that way is against policy (we don't use tables for layout We're not supposed to use tables for layout, but a great many 'editors' do so;). 125.162.150.88 (talk) 05:37, 28 April 2011 (UTC)
The data is too wide for the screen so they made everything *small*. Its a bad state of affairs. I will prolly never get around to fixing it. I re-did my to-do list in fact, as the stuff was just sitting there un-done. Now it will be a home for humour. --Diannaa (Talk) 05:44, 28 April 2011 (UTC)
think different more than a quarter of that article was stupid markup. Of course, a lot of the data looks a mess, too. nb: heaps of markup is an impediment to editing by most people. 125.162.150.88 (talk) 08:28, 28 April 2011 (UTC)

{{House of Normandy}} would work better if it was designed like Template:Colonial India. (do take a moment to notice who is the author of the current version of Template:Colonial India). Note how little code is needed to get a beautiful easy-to-edit result. This is no doubt part of a series on houses of the British Royal Family: Normans, Plantagenet, Lancaster, York, etc. --Diannaa (Talk) 02:40, 30 April 2011 (UTC)
I see, and will look further. all such tempaltes should be using infobox; the endless hordes resist because they *want* to deviate in endless ways. it's all ownership; it's what people do. 125.162.150.88

It would have been more appropriate to discuss this change at WT:SBS and get some consensus beforehand, rather than plotting discussing on your own talk page. If the pages weren't protected I'd revert the changes as lacking consensus. Bazj (talk) 11:25, 30 April 2011 (UTC)

Yes. I will read your links when I get home from work. Wikiprojects have ownership issues, individual users have ownership issues. March - a month for me to forget lol

Hi

Sorry I have not been around, conjunctivitis and a blown graphics card have made me fairly useless for the past two weeks. Am back to healthy now, well at least I can focus again and I can look at my PC screen for a good hour without my eyes watering constantly :¬)

Sorry not been around but should be ok again, although a little intermittently for this week due to work commitments.

Anything exciting happened? Chaosdruid (talk) 20:39, 24 April 2011 (UTC)

Just teh same old wiki-dramas etc! Nice to see you and I am glad you are feeling better. --Diannaa (Talk) 20:43, 24 April 2011 (UTC)

A request if you may

Hello Diannaa, I have a quick request. Could you please delete Vicmillsy29GoPies/Premiership Coach 2010 and Premiership Coach 2010 for me please. Thanks. mauchoeagle 03:36, 25 April 2011 (UTC)

Sure. Please tage them db-u1 first so there is an "audit trail". Thanks --Diannaa (Talk) 03:41, 25 April 2011 (UTC)
I have tagged them. mauchoeagle 03:49, 25 April 2011 (UTC)

Good point. --Diannaa (Talk) 14:06, 26 April 2011 (UTC)

Hello Dianaa! I was wondering if you could copy-edit the above two articles. Editors have pointed out that the article's prose is not that good. Thanks. Novice7 (talk) 12:13, 27 April 2011 (UTC)

Sorry, I added one more. Hope it's okay. And, take your time to complete them Diannaa. Novice7 (talk) 16:33, 27 April 2011 (UTC)
Do you want me to copy these to the requests page? I already have two major projects on the go so it may be a while. Let me know; if you want to wait thats ok. --Diannaa (Talk) 18:25, 27 April 2011 (UTC)
Would it take time? I mean, GOCE? I asked Reaper too, but seems like he is unwell. Novice7 (talk) 07:14, 28 April 2011 (UTC)
I have pretty much finished one of my big projects so I will get both of these done for you over the weekend. --Diannaa (Talk) 15:47, 29 April 2011 (UTC)

FYI, Yomiel has been blocked by MuZemike as a sockpuppet of the banned user User:Fragments of Jade per WP:ANI#Patience is a virtue? and WP:ANI#Personal attacks, original research and trivia. Copyedit request

Hey Diannaa, I was wondering if you had time to run a copyedit over Air India Express Flight 812 as I did here but another user has told me that my prose is a bit off. (Which I'm not suprised about, it's normal for me) Just want a second set of eyes. Thanks -- DQ (t) (e) 20:34, 27 April 2011 (UTC)

Hi, Delta Q. I am pretty busy with two big projects right now, but I will work on it later if you don't mind waiting. You could also post the request at the requests page. Let me know. --Diannaa (Talk) 20:40, 27 April 2011 (UTC)

Cody's last pledge lacks on clarity and includes not to post at all on wiki unless his name is mentioned. I think it is essential for him to do some editing on other topics (as far as he pleases) as it will help him to understand our policies while studying them. I think the thread should be kept open to give Cody a chance to respond to my last post here [5] which would clarify his pledge and not keep him from editing at all, which I think would be a bad thing he might not have thought of. I also left a note at their talkpage [6]. I'll leave it up to you to undo your closing if you feel some agreement with me here. Best, TMCk (talk) 17:58, 29 April 2011 (UTC)

Sorry, my mistake. I see that was a partial closing a view days ago. So never mind.Cheers, TMCk (talk) 18:05, 29 April 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, I did close the initial thread a while back but a lot has happened since then. Regards, --Diannaa (Talk) 18:09, 29 April 2011 (UTC)

Hi, someone has brought up some objections to the edits you made to the succession boxes (example). Figured I'd give you the chance to self-revert or at least counter the objections. --Closedmouth (talk) 16:31, 30 April 2011 (UTC)

Hello! Somehow when you made this[7] edit, it made the references go crazy: see the references in the edit before. I tried to figure out what you missed, but I have failed. I'm sure it's a simple character out of place or something. Cheers :> Doc talk 17:31, 30 April 2011 (UTC)

Ok, I will get right on it. --Diannaa (Talk) 17:33, 30 April 2011 (UTC)
Whew! I didn't even notice it til after my last edit, and I was like, "Oh shit, what do I do?" ;> Doc talk 17:45, 30 April 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, it was me all right. By the way if you have some better sources for the info on victims Oliverson, Aime, and Leach, that would be great. I have Rule's book sitting here but it is unindexed and thus no help at all and the Nelson does not cover all the info in the article. Thanks. Off to the gym, TTYL. --Diannaa (Talk) 17:48, 30 April 2011 (UTC)
I definitely can cite some important Leach stuff: like how he was seen by an eyewitness screaming at her as he drove in the van like an "angry parent" and her in tears - very sad but revealing stuff. I'll look into the others, but all I have in hard copy are the 1989 Rule and the Time-Life book. I'll see what I can dig up. Let's hope we a good reviewer gets this one, BTW... schools

Hi Diannaa/Archive 9. The Wikipedia Schools Project has set up a dedicated help and feedback page at WP:WPSCH/H. This for elementary/primary, middle, and high schools (often called college in the UK). It is not for universities or other degree awarding institutions.
If you regularly give advice to users, you might wish to send enquirers there - we are quick to respond. However, WT:WPSCH still remains the place for general discussion about the management and policy of school articles. --Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 00:25, 1 May 2011 (UTC)

Hi Diannaa. You blocked 74.69.192.31 (talk · contribs) in late March. After the block expired, the IP resumed making disruptive edits such as this one and this one. Because the IP has been vandalizing since January 2011, would you place a 3 or 6 month block on it? Would you also place File:Dildos o Consoladores Nena.jpg and File:BearApplePoop.JPG on MediaWiki:Bad image list? For the former, please place an exception for Dildo and for the latter, an exception for American black bear and Feces. Thanks, Cunard (talk) 00:59, 1 May 2011 (UTC)

The dildo pic was already on the list; Courcelles added it 40 min ago. I have added the poop. This is not a remark I often get the opportunity to make, believe me. --Diannaa (Talk) 01:52, 1 May 2011 (UTC)

GOCE drive

Hi Diannaa, sorry I have had to travel to the country to see my grandma, who is gravely ill. I should be back home later today or tomorrow. Can you help organize a quick newsletter to go out to potential participants for the drive? I can send it when I get back if that is a problem, but it would be good to have it ready. It should go out to all members and past participants (minus those on the opt-out list). I would do it but I do not really have proper internet service here in the sticks. Appreciate your help. I will be back in action in a few days. Cheers. SMasters (talk) 10:03, 1 May 2011 (UTC)

ok. --Diannaa (Talk) 18:22, 1 May 2011 (UTC)
So sorry to hear about your grandma. A version of the newsletter is available here. If you could send it out when you get back that would be perfect. Let me know if you are delayed and I will send it out instead. --Diannaa (Talk) 01:58, 2 May 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for doing that. I'm still away but should be back tomorrow. I'll be back in action after that. Cheers. SMasters (talk) 08:58, 3 May 2011 (UTC)

May backlog drive

Hi Diannaa,

I've just dropped The Master of Mayhem a note about the articles he's copyedited for the May drive, and suggested you might be able to give him a few hints about things to look out for. Hope that's OK with you. Cheers, --jjron (talk) 13:43, 1 May 2011 (UTC)

Unity Resources Group

Hi Diannaa, I'd appreciate your input on an issue that has arisen over Unity Resources Group. You can get the jist of what it's about here. My response included a reply to an email received containing the line "I would also like to know the complaint procedure and the contact details for your legal team". According to WP:NLT it seems that this should be reported at WP:ANI but I'm not 100% sure and would appreciate your advice. Best ► Philg88 ◄ talk 00:46, 2 May 2011 (UTC)

Hi Philg88. This page says to send an e-mail to the OTRS team and they can assess what to do. You should likely forward them a copy of the e-mail you received so they can read it themselves. --Diannaa (Talk) 01:19, 2 May 2011 (UTC)

I have signed up for checking - anything to look at or do before I do them?

Also spotted a couple of oddities that may need discussion later.

Hope you are enjoying yourself :¬) Chaosdruid (talk) 03:01, 2 May 2011 (UTC)

I am checking edits by user:The Master of Mayhem right now so you can skip that editor. Thank you for helping out :) I am kinda tired as I didn't sleep much last night but yeah, its been good fun so far. --Diannaa (Talk) 03:06, 2 May 2011 (UTC)
Ah, I just left him a note on his page lol about his copyedits, I feel a little responsible for him as we struck up a sort of rapport when he first started. I noticed that one of his 5000+ articles was only edited as far as the tenth para, about 1/8 of it done, so thought I would drop him a line. I moved on to the other 5000+ and found a few little omissions so thought I would stop checking and drop him a line - too late lol as you probably had the same thoughts.
I had problems all day with work - staff from one of the handovers, I did talk it up after all lol, and looks like I may have to take a chunk out of tomorrow as well.
No probs with the helping, I realised that I should probably help out checking as well - SMasters may be needing a little space for a while and you have your admin duties you need to perform (as well those Huggle sessions we all love so much) Chaosdruid (talk) 03:16, 2 May 2011 (UTC)
If you want to check over the Sri Lanka article and give the user a critique that would be great. Do you mind? --Diannaa (Talk) 03:27, 2 May 2011 (UTC)
I don't mind at all (isn't that a song title?) - unfortunately it's time for bed here (well, way past it actually at 04:35 lol) so would have to be tomorrow if that's ok with you? I was just watching an old Fringe episode for one or two points I raised on the copyedit I just finished and fell asleep on the couch - true dedication to the cause lmao. Chaosdruid (talk) 03:38, 2 May 2011 (UTC)
Yes, tomorrow is what I meant :) Thank you. --Diannaa (Talk) 04:43, 2 May 2011 (UTC)
I have copy-edited the article, as the previous attempt was a little inconclusive, and have posted some guidance notes on their page User_talk:The_Master_of_Mayhem#History_of_Sri_Lanka. It was a brave attempt by MofM at a difficult article (it took me 4 hours in the end!) and I hope that I wasn't lacking in comments for guidance.
Off to work myself now for a couple of hours but will be back afterwards. Chaosdruid (talk) 17:13, 2 May 2011 (UTC)
PS I did not suggest anything about removing any details from the drive stats, leaving such to your effable Solomonic judgement :¬) I also noticed that your name is "Dianna" in the drive stats table, is that your preferred moniker? Chaosdruid (talk) 17:24, 2 May 2011 (UTC)
I added the extra letters because when I chose a user-name I was not sure if there was another "Diana" or "Dianna" or "Diane" about. Diane is my middle name and my last name starts with the letter A. Now I think all the extra letters look silly and I have actually been thinking about doing a user-name change :)
Guidance: It looked to me when I did a cursory glance at it yesterday, the issues mostly involved punctuation so if the user looks at the style guides and the diffs they should be able to figure out the rationale for your edits. Gaah. Wiki too hard.
Drive stats: the first one, Professor Zoom, where they copy edited only one small section, they should only get credit for that section. The second one, Tupolev Tu-144, where they did virtually no work because there was no work to be done, they should get no credit. I mean, the article is laden with technical jargon, but there was nothing to copy-edit. I will give them credit for Ayako Tsuru if they go back and do the added revisions I suggested. I don't think they should get credit for Sri Lanka, as they did not do adequate work. I am not going to assess penalties on top of this as they are super new. You can add Sri Lanka to your drive totals. If they don't change their stats in the next day or so I will make the changes myself, and will finish Ayako Tsuru too. --Diannaa (Talk) 19:09, 2 May 2011 (UTC)
Its cool though lol, I thought your inspiration was from some Greek Goddess - I have always wondered where it came from I must admit :¬) As for MofM I am glad we agree on the penalties, I was wary to try and not put them off with a bad experience. I remember my first copyedits I did before joining GOCE, as well as some of my first page creations, so many silly little mistakes...one article I created was so bad when I went to look at it, some 18 months down the line, I just saved as a bookmark and closed the page down in embarrassment and that was only just over a week ago - I should go and fix it soon I think.
I was planning on doing some checks and edits tonight but forgot D'Onofrio & Erbe and In Plain Sight were back :¬) I am a little busy with work from tomorrow so might not get much time on here till the weekend but, when I get the time, I will concentrate on checks and a maybe a few copyedits. Oh, I forgot about the dashes scripts, did you see the notes about the dental template and the mdash not fixing (gregs script doesn't turn incorrect mdashes back to ndashes as it is only for hyphens-> ndash/mdash)? I was wondering if we should say something or look at one of the alternative scripts that may be out there. Chaosdruid (talk) 23:49, 2 May 2011 (UTC)
My initial user-page has a spelling error! What a n00b I was. I have never seen this dental template before but it looks like if the script breaks it, the hyphens can just be replaced by hand. Plastispork is the God (Goddess?) of All Templates so hopefully a fix can be found from that end. I don't see that many incorrect em-dashes; normally I remove them by hand too. I don't know if there are any other scripts that do the task Greg's does. We could ask around and see. --Diannaa (Talk) 00:59, 3 May 2011 (UTC)

article in current drive

Hey there. Thanks again for those awards in the last drive I did. I noticed that List of Zatch Bell! episodes (season 3) was on the list of articles needing to be copyedited a few days prior to the start of the current drive but then it has been taken off by someone who merely edited the introductory paragraph but none of the content. Okay that I go ahead and work on the rest and you guys can count the article as an article when I'm done? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aichikawa (talkcontribs)

I know. They do this every drive. User talk:Wilhelmina Will#Working tags --Diannaa (Talk) 13:09, 4 May 2011 (UTC)
Hmmm - they have also added the GOCEinuse banners though...for example 1 [8], 2 [9], 3 [10]. Chaosdruid (talk) 18:16, 4 May 2011 (UTC)
This is counter-productive, as a lot of these articles are from August 2009, and no one else is likely to tackle them with the tag in place. I will ask that they remove the tag. Thanks. --Diannaa (Talk) 18:45, 4 May 2011 (UTC)

  2. Transport in Greater Tokyo (1389)
  3. 10th Aviation Regiment (United States) (564)
  4. Ben 10 (toy line) (266)
  5. February 26 Incident (5472)
This adds up to 7770 words. --Diannaa (Talk) 13:35, 6 May 2011 (UTC)
Yes, but I removed the Tupolev article and then it was removed again. I'm on my last legs, so hopefully my explanation will clear things up.--The copyeditor's corner 15:17, 6 May 2011 (UTC)
I still don't understand. YOu get credit for the above five articles and they add up to 7770 words. What am I missing? --Diannaa (Talk) 17:14, 6 May 2011 (UTC)
Ohhh... [scrambles for another idea] The Tupolev article was removed by me and later you (perhaps inadvertantly) did exactly the same thing. Now [tries to find something to say] the article has been removed twice now when it should be only once (it was my fault for not notifying you!!). That is The $64,000 Question.--The copyeditor's corner 19:21, 6 May 2011 (UTC)
You do not get credit for the Tupolev article. It is not going to be re-added into your totals. It did not need copy editing and thus you should have removed the copy edit tag and not added it to your totals. --Diannaa (Talk) 20:37, 6 May 2011 (UTC)
Right [starting to get really cross]--The copyeditor's corner 21:34, 6 May 2011 (UTC)

Page move

Hi Diannaa! Can you move this back to this? A user moved User:Adabow's sandbox draft without his consent. Thanks. Novice7 (talk) 17:03, 6 May 2011 (UTC)

Done. --Diannaa (Talk) 17:15, 6 May 2011 (UTC)
Thanks Diannaa. Novice7 (talk) 17:15, 6 May 2011 (UTC)

I know you're not finished yet, but thanks, and wow! The article's PR noted that the article, especially the cultural impact section was a bit bloated. It has been trimmed quite a bit since, but if you see any othe redundancies don't hesitate to remove. Thanks again. Adabow (talk · contribs) 04:50, 8 May 2011 (UTC)

Yes, I read the Peer Review before I started. I will go over it twice for sure, and can watch-list until you get to FA. TTYL --Diannaa (Talk) 04:56, 8 May 2011 (UTC)

Thank you

I would just like to thank you for the copyedit made for User:Jaime070996/ES MNT history. Thanks a lot! Jaime070996 18:56, 8 May 2011 (UTC)

You tagged this as a copyvio, which it was, but in the history I found that an earlier version had been over-written with the copyright one, so I have restored that. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 09:17, 9 May 2011 (UTC)

Thanks, John. I will look at it later and clean it up. --Diannaa (Talk) 13:49, 9 May 2011 (UTC)

Working - working - yaay time off! - working - work...

Hi

Sorry I haven't been around, I have been doing 15 and 16 hour days since we last chatted. Things have settled down now, I had my first day off today, Monday, and spent most of it sleeping lol.

Anyway, just to let you know I am back as of tomorrow, well today for me, and have put my name on the UK article. I have also left a note for the involved editors to restore it to a good copy ready for the CE.

Anything needing catching up on? I have checked the GOCE conversation pages and had a quick look at some of the problems arising from the requests page, hence me putting the notes on the UK talk page :¬)

There could be a little problem creeping in with one or two strange copyedits on req. pages which I will take a closer look at tomorrow and then maybe discuss with you or SM to see what action to take, if any.

Let me know if anything immediate needs doing, such as drive checks etc., so that I can do those before starting on the UK article. Chaosdruid (talk) 00:29, 10 May 2011 (UTC)

I posted a question at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Guild of Copy Editors#Copy edit help. I just can't seem to figure out how to word it! Could you have a look? I haven't done any further checks since you've been gone. Let me know if you need my input on these peculiarities of which you speak. Thanks for taking the UK article; I was going to give it a go but as it will be incredibly time consuming I will back off, as I have other stuff I need to do. I will fix up the ref-notes-group later when the folks in the UK have turned in for the night. --Diannaa (Talk) 00:42, 10 May 2011 (UTC)
Bling --Diannaa (Talk) 01:14, 10 May 2011 (UTC)
Hope all is well with you, I didn't realise you had started editing the UK article, sorry about that *blushes*
I have given a further possibility on the single doobery, I think it was classed as a double lead as she performed them together 4 days prior to the single release and that would qualify as a double-lead (at least according to the wikipage). I suppose the "first" and "second" are down to the order they were performed in rather than something to do with the single itself, hence my note on putting that in the paragraph.
UK - I have given the regular page editors another 24 hours as no-one has said anything, signed off on the good state, nor made any edits to revert or undo anything.
Work - lol thought I was free but, after training another new staff member who couldn't hack it and left at the end of the shift, it's starting to be a bit similar to the greenhorns on Deadliest Catch.
I might get some free time tomorrow evening to do some checks, but have to go now as am up in five hours again for work...need sleep and a holiday! Chaosdruid (talk) 00:12, 11 May 2011 (UTC)
UK: I did start of the lead and so far have not been reverted. I also got the ref-note-group thing taken care of, and ran the usual scripts. But the article is so big it makes my computer act like a slug. You can have it :) . Thanks for the tips on "Single Ladies"; I had to listen to the song and watch the video, being the only person in the known universe who had not done so, in spite of Kanye West's rousing endorsement. I will probably try to work in your suggestion. --Diannaa (Talk) 00:21, 11 May 2011 (UTC)
Sheesh, will it ever end lol...I think I might get some time off this weekend, have one little job to do this morning but should be available again as of this afternoon. First thing on the list is the UK article, unless there is anything more urgent?
Hope all is well with you though and apologies for not being there to help as much as I would have liked, I am hoping things will calm down now for a week or two (fingers and toes crossed lol) - I am the directors PA, dogsbody, the delivery driver, fixer and general all round "make it all work properly" guy but once I showed him my timesheet (oh yeah I do those as well lol) and the bill I think he will be giving me more time off :¬)
Anyhoo, back to the grind for now... Chaosdruid (talk) 06:33, 14 May 2011 (UTC)
Hi there. It will all be worth it when payday comes :) I just checked last night and all the spot-checking is caught up so there is nothing urgent that needs doing. It is time for our halfway-point newsletter so I will start preparing that, and will let you know when it is available for review. --Diannaa (Talk) 14:29, 14 May 2011 (UTC)
The newsletter is now available for editing. User:Diannaa/Sandbox#GOCE Mid-drive newsletter --Diannaa (Talk) 19:16, 14 May 2011 (UTC)
