A link to the music wouldn't be one that lead to your blog, or act as a portal for sales through Amazon Associates that earns your blog referral fees. If you think these article would benefit with a list of artists who have covered the song, and some of them would be extremely long and uninformative lists, then please add it to the article itself. Mayoon - Alexander the Great's Army

I appreciate your edits to the Mayoon article. I selected this article for editing because it appeared in a WP listing of pieces in desperate need of a complete overhaul. It was a mess when I began (you can see that in earlier histories). You are correct that citations and references are still needed - I just unearthed a nice original document about a battle at Mayoon, written in the 19th C by a Brit who was wounded there. I'll be adding that soon. Still looking for other references to cite for other parts of the article.

Twice you have deleted the story about Alexander the Great's army because it is only speculated that the Mayoons are descended of his leagues. You are correct. This bit was in the original piece by earlier authors, placed there months ago, and presented as unsubstantiated fact. (I don't know why no one bothered to remove it until I started these edits.) Like you, I was tempted to delete the piece entirely until I started doing the research. I would like to see this left in because (even though it is unproven) there are references to the idea that the local residents believe they are descendants of the failed invasion's soldiers. This would be similar to saying that people who are Christians believe Jesus was the Messiah. It is a cultural belief even if it refers to a speculative notion and it is left in the Jesus articles because - speculative or not - it is what some people believe. Can you help me find an appropriate way to indicate that the Mayoons believe their light skin and European features are the result of Illyrian lineage? It should be said in a way that indicates this in an unfounded belief, but one that the people there take seriously. As evidence of the latter, I used a YouTube video. I previewed seven (!) and this one seemed the best representation of their idea. (It was not "a random" link to YouTube, but a selected representative clip.) Again, the point is not to say there is any truth in their notion, but it is a culturally held idea of the locals. (I placed it in a new Culture section I added partly for this reason.) Sorry, when I said "random" I meant in the way that it was no way authoritative. It appears to be an edited and strangely overdubbed (sounds like a computer generated voice), most likely a copyright violation, and uploaded by an unknown "random" person. That makes it unsuitable, because what it says could have been manipulated or misinterpreted in dozens of way. I've no problem at all of adding this as a cultural and historical belief of the Mayoons, but it's something that needs a good source. Suitably and neutrally worded it can then be left to the reader to decide how credible a claim it is, Wikipedia shouldn't be making that decision. Happy to help out if you can locate a good source. Thanks for your help. I will look for other sources. The article has been a major time-sink, but it's an interesting topic. Very few sources are in any of the languages I can read. Again, about the YouTube video - it was not used as a reference to prove that the people are Illyrian descendants (I agree that the video does not prove it) but rather I used the link to show that such beliefs exist, not to confirm any validity of those beliefs. However, I can see that linking to the clip might convey the impression that the abandoned army theory is a fact. Punch Buggy Edit

Hi. I hope this is the right place to post this reply to your Punch Buggy edit - I'm relatively new to the Wikipedia platform and I don't know what the protocol is for disputing an administrative edit.

You are correct that this is my first-hand observation, but that is all that exists for this topic -- and many other similar folk topics (be they games, stories, lyrics, etc.) that have a high degree of regional variation and neither an official document of record nor a recognized expert that can be cited. Does this mean we ignore all regional variants of these themes? Presumably not: much of this Punch Buggy entry would then be removed (eg, the Brazil variant and the Newport Beach variant -- which cites a self-published book on the topic, which is like citing one's own blog as a source), and other entries -- eg, "White elephant gift swap," which is almost entirely uncited variations on a folk game -- might have to go away altogether.

That would be a shame. These folk themes are an important part of our culture. They develop on their own in real time, not bound by any official text or historical record. How they manifest in different places directly reflects our regional diversity and I would argue is an important part of the human experience. Wikipedia is a platform -- the only platform ever invented -- that can effectively capture and record these vast, dynamic themes and present them accurately and completely in both real time and for the historical record. Isn't that what it's for?

Hello Mr. Escape Orbit, I was trying to edit the saddle page and noticed that it did not have a reliable source to get a quality made saddle for a good price. People read about them and if they get one I know I would want to see a link. It said at the top of the page that it was looking for a reliable source for saddles and they are as reliable as anybody. Full circle rainbow

In response to your remarks to my latest edit in Full circle rainbow, whether 1) confusion with the 22° halo is common, and whether 2) "snowbow" is an inaccurate term: 1. Yes, the confusion is fairly common: A google query for "full circle rainbow" results in many images of the 22° halo. 2. Halos are not caused by snow (i.e., conglomerates of dendritic ice crystals), but by free floating ice crystals in the shape of hexagonal prisms: see http://atoptics.co.uk/halo/crystals.htm. I don't know. It looks like a personal blog to me. No organisation behind it is identified, or indeed any individual. Being listed on hype machine doesn't change this, in fact they make a point about picking blogs that are particularly personal.
I wouldn't worry about it if it wasn't for the fact that all the other sources are equally poor. A one time mention of a recording on a largely anonymous blog isn't going to help you demonstrate notability. That looks very good. I only had one minor change; Wikipedia is international, so saying "national" doesn't tell the reader which nation. It would also be good if you found an existing article to link the RCA Recording Studios to, and add some categories at the foot of the page.
The statement "Their single was one of the earliest examples of proto-punk rock." isn't verified by the cite, which describes it as "a garage punk classic". Maybe simply describing it as garage punk would be less likely to be challenged?
You should add this to the disambiguation page here. And put {{For|other uses of this phrase|Talk Talk (disambiguation)}} at the top of your page.

Common image question

Hi Escape Orbit. I've been working on The Tanster page. I had uploaded her self-portrait to use in the info box. I had her e-mail the copyright permission form and letter which I CC'd you on. I haven't heard back yet. I totally understand that Wikipedia involves a huge amount of work and that this might take time. I'm just wondering if things are on track or not? If takes months or more to get approval, I understand. If I didn't do something right though, I'd like to correct it. One possibility is that I spoke to her directly about authorizing it, which she agreed to. The copyright permission page suggested including an e-mail chain to establish what my request of her was. Are you really saying that the critical lack of respect for The Moody Blues (which isn't a POV, it's a fact which was correctly sourced and is also mentioned in their AllMusic biography BTW) can't be mentioned on their page???

By the way, you need to keep a closer eye on the Moody Blues page, as an IP user made a dramatic change to the album sales on 17 September, from 70 to 90 million regardless of what the source actually said, and it remained incorrect until yesterday when I corrected it. It's also interesting that you didn't change "among their innovations was a fusion with classical music" before and yet now you have decided that "innovative" is not neutral and "early development" is now not acceptable. What's the point of adding animals that may not even have any names attributed to them?

I assume all well-known animals have the additional names. They all have specialists dedicated to them, after all.

Hi. Thanks for your message regarding List of animal names. The problem is that I don't see any value to filling this article, which is about "given specific names for males, females, young, and groups", with animal names without including any of the afore mentioned specific names.
Otherwise we just have an article that lists animals, not an article of animal names. Not all animals have specific names. So would it not be best, and easiest, to leave animals off the list until these specific names can be included, if they exist?
Some care also needs to be taken in sourcing these names. There are a lot of lists out on the internet with groups names for animals that are little more than "funny names someone made up", and are never actually used by anyone, anywhere. --Escape Orbit (Talk) 16:05, 19 September 2015 (UTC)
You are welcome. Animals, as you call them, are listed throughout WP by their scientific species names. I was looking for a list of them by their common names, when I came across this list. I was going by the title of the list, and I admit, I didn't even read the lead, because I didn't expect that it deviated from the title. The lead is not congruent with the title, which implies it includes all names for animals, including their common names. And indeed it does include their common names, along with the others you mentioned. Concerning the others, I thought "Ah, what a bonus!"
It cannot be a comprehensive list of animal names if it does not include all animal names, including their common names (and species name, come to think of it). But, since it is not a list of (all) animal names, the contents of the list is not discernible from its title. So maybe the title should be changed to be more specific.
You said "not all animals have specific names", but yes they do. Species names and common names are their specific names. The problem is, we don't know what those other kinds of names ("male", "female", "young", and "group") are called as a class.
Concerning sourcing issues, I agree with you. (Though most of those terms in the list are silly, made up by someone).
The list of animal names at Outline of zoology got displaced, and this looked like the best home for it (given the title). Perhaps List of animals by common name Done would be a better place to move those names.

No, that is not a synthesis. I did not do any original research. In fact, the additional IGN article added actually contained a citation to said previous issue with EA. And yes, this has everything to do with it; the NCAA clearly does not want its "student-athletes" to be commercially-exploited (even though practically every single broadcast of college athletics does so by default; it's just that the money never goes straight to the athletes), and they practically become their property the moment they even consider joining a sanctioned school, it seems, even if they are being represented as part of a professional organization rather than a college. Thank-you for your civil tone - not something always encountered. I have written over 500 articles on Wikipedia and tiring of some Admin I decided to rarely produce new articles and occupy myself instead by adding visual enhancement. The award of a Barnstar encouraged me that I was on the right track. I don't tend to express opinions, rather I read up on the topic and recount what I have found out from research. Where it is linked to one of my articles it can be clearly seen that the facts are the same. I have written many articles on railway stations - no room for opinions here - just dates and facts. History articles also benefit from my large collection of books on various topics. I am also an elected Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries - one of the oldest and most respected in the United Kingdom and beyond.

I avoid personal references and those made about living persons. My sound track is often restricted to simple statements of place, time, etc. I try to record the present for the future - a chronicler by nature. I have well over 5000 Wikimedia photographs which I use in much the same way as the videos. When I make mistakes in the sound track I correct them with highlighted annotations.

Message about images I uploaded

Thanks for your feedback on my recent image upload. You asked me not to post images I'd scraped from the web. I actually too the photos and edited them up in photoshop specifically for the article in the hope of making it more clear what each type of sporran looks like. I was actually hoping to take some time to put my research down and improve on the article on sporrans. It feels very light indeed for a piece of Scottish history that is so rich.
