Can you help me promote this article to a good article ?

I always assumed it was year of debut, especially as seeing nowadays many youngsters are given squad numbers but (sometimes) never make the first team. I don't think there has been a WP:FOOTBALL discussion about the matter. GiantSnowman 12:23, 14 November 2010 (UTC)

Hi, I work at Tranmere Rovers as the website editor. Simon asked me to make the corrections. The source linked to previously has misspelled his name. Timkoroberts (talk) 16:42, 7 January 2011 (UTC)

K Agard

Hi. I looked at the refs in the article for K. Agard, and I note that in all of the ones that worked his first name is spelt "Kieran". What's the reasoning for moving to Keiran? Cheers. Ilikeeatingwaffles (talk) 00:38, 11 January 2011 (UTC)

I don't think that I agree with you on this, I'm afraid. I've put a move request on the article (Talk:Keiran_Agard#Requested_move), so please contribute. Ilikeeatingwaffles (talk)

Shaun Whalley (GA)

Hi Matty,

Just wondering if you could take a quick look at the article Shaun Whalley, and if you could tell me what may need doing to achieve a good article status or if possible could you try and add a few bits and pieces and or tidy it up where needed. You seem to be quite good at helping to achieve good article's and im pretty hopeless. Cheers,

I would love for you to contridute some, maybe to try and clean up if iv'e mist bits but mainly on his career pre Hyde which needs some expansion,

Oh and also the user ilikeeatingwaffles keeps editing the page and other pages some are neccecary but he is trying to delete most info on Hyde career saying you dont need facts on all goals that he scores and its starting to do my head in because as far as im concerned the more factual info the better. thanks again, LiamTaylor 16:48, 31 January 2011 (UTC)

Hi, regarding your edit [1] where you re-added the sportbox reference to show the stats for 2009-10, did you see my previous edit/edit summary [2] where I showed two sources with alternative figures? Regards. Eldumpo (talk) 09:22, 25 March 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for responding. The Barnet website [3], Soccerbase [4] and British Footie [5] all show Diarmuid O'Carroll playing in the 18/8/09 game for Morecambe rather than Panther, whereas your Morecambe link and Sportbox [6] show Panther playing rather than O'Carroll, although it is interesting that Sportbox show Panther without a squad number, whereas the others all have one, so maybe this is somehow the source of the confusion. Based on the evidence though, it does not seem definitive that he played in the match. Eldumpo (talk) 18:20, 25 March 2011 (UTC)

Oh and just ignore the Managers section in the article because I need to replace that table and cite it, then it is done. –LiamTaylor– 23:14, 22 April 2011 (UTC)

David Luiz

I had cite a official CMVM source but removed by Mr. annoying Vasco. The English media also quoted the same source (read carefully the Soccernet article), so please do not change the fee. It is €25 million, (check the talk page of David Luiz for the CMVM link). In normal practice there is no need to convert the price but it is ok to keep pound. However you remove the OFFICIAL RATE 25 million and kept pound, seems not a practice agreed on David Luiz page. Matthew_hk tc 12:04, 22 June 2011 (UTC)

Grimsby Town FC

Hi Matty, just noticed your edits on the Grimsby Town F.C. page. Fully understand the edit, as your only following the source from the linked official website. However as a long suffering Grimsby Town supporter, even our official website is in decline and always lacks a decent update. The squad numbers you re-instated were last season's numbers of the players that have remained. The website is somewhat slow to be updated at times, for example the majority of the time when a youth team player is given a squad number and named in a first team matchday squad it sometimes takes a good number of weeks for him to be added to the squad list on the website. Although not listed on the squad section both Steve Croudson and Robbie Stockdale are both part of the playing squad and were recently included in a news article on the site which listed currently contracted players. I have there fore undone your edits as it misses out several players who are either contracted or youngsters who have signed professional terms. Many regards. Footballgy (talk) 16:56, 6 July 2011 (UTC)

No problem mate, like I said I can fully understand the edit, the best site for up to date latest news and accurate listings is www.thefishy.co.uk , I am affraid the O.S is slow to update..the Grimsby Telegraph is more up to date and breaks new stories before the official site. Stockdale has been with us since 2008 and last season was announced as a Player/Youth Team Manager, and at the moment he still remains in that position. Croudson retired a few years back but re-registered, I am pretty sure he will remain as a registered player next term even if he isn't given a squad number for a start. Regards Footballgy (talk) 17:15, 6 July 2011 (UTC)

Begging again

Hello. Do you happen to have access to the Hugman 2010-11 Who's Who? noticed you've added refs citing it. If you still have, please could you look up Robin Shroot and see what Mr Hugman gives as his full name. Findmypast gives Robin Alexander E. Shroot, but it'd be nice to have a proper ref for whatever E stands for. thanks (again), Struway2 (talk) 14:48, 26 July 2011 (UTC)

Oh well, it'll have to stay a secret. On the FA registrations list it only had Robin, which was even less useful... Thanks for looking him up. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 16:28, 26 July 2011 (UTC)

Featured Topic help

Hi mate, I saw you were the nominator for the York City F.C. featured topic, and I was hoping to get some advice regarding the creation of a Manchester United F.C. featured topic. As well as the club's main article, I'm currently hoping to include:

However, I've noticed that the Ipswich Town F.C. and York City F.C. featured topics also include lists of those clubs' Players of the Year. Given that Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year exists, do you think that should be included as well? There are a couple of others that I think could be included, but I'd like to get your opinion on the content of the topic. Assuming I can get all of the aforementioned articles to FA or GA status, do you think they would be sufficient for a featured topic? Thanks for your help. – PeeJay 16:07, 27 July 2011 (UTC)

Hi there MATTY, VASCO here

i think maybe most of the last users in this player's page are correct, i guess he has been stripped of his #21, José Mourinho has not finished screwing up the career of a fantastic Spanish player, he prefers his Portuguese minions (and recently his Turks)!

All that because the player said he saw himself as a starter in a Champions League game, pityful...Of course, other things could have come into the equation (poor training displays, etc), but i find Mourinho's treatment of the player very unfair. Happy weekend, from Portugal - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 03:47, 30 July 2011 (UTC)

Hi Matty. I wonder what you think about the inclusion in this article of the guy who was accused of selling drugs to Tom Staniforth? As he was acquitted it doesn't seem right to me to have his name linked in perpetuity to the crime via wikipedia. I'd like your opinion as an experienced football editor and a previous contributor to the article.

Also, how far away do you think Lucy Staniforth is from meriting her own article? The FA WSL is not quite "fully professional" but is quite publicity heavy. She also hasn't been capped by England at senior level yet. But To my mind she's got "non trivial" coverage to pass the GNG.

I see you've done lots of good work on here and would welcome you views. Thanks Clavdia chauchat (talk) 22:44, 20 August 2011 (UTC)

First, I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume the comment you left me was just boilerplate given the previous contributions I have made surrounding Arsenal players. I'm well aware of the rules as far as editing Wikipedia goes. I would have sourced Benayoun's squad number if any of the other squad numbers had been similarly sourced. A tag has been placed on Friddles, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a redirect to an article talk page, file description page, file talk page, MediaWiki page, MediaWiki talk page, category talk page, portal talk page, template talk page, help talk, user page, user talk or special page from the main/article space.

If you can fix the redirect to point to a mainspace page, please do so and remove the speedy deletion tag. However, please do not remove the speedy deletion tag unless you are fixing the redirect. If you think the redirect should be retained as is for some reason, contest the deletion by clicking on the button that looks like this: which appears inside of the speedy deletion () tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate). Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the article's talk page directly to give your reasons. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Clayton Donaldson

I have been offline so apologies for the late response. The reason I added the player's name to the title of the Crewe Alexandra page is because this is what is shown on the title bar (top line) of the web page, though separated by pipes rather than hyphens. The title bar of the York Press pages also shows the title of the article with "(from York Press)" at the end so that is why I made that change. FC is preferable to F.C. as the latter causes consecutive full stops (periods) in the reference list and is incorrect (see MOS:CONSECUTIVE). The page has been changed in the meantime so I don't think any further changes are necessary. Pointer1 (talk) 13:36, 1 December 2011 (UTC)

Ireland

I have to comend you on your knowledge of football and the great effort you have put into this catergory on Wiki in partictular [7]. One thing I have noticed is in info boxes of players born in Ireland you use Repbiic of Ireland , I dont know if you are aware but WP:IMOS is the manual of style for Ireland related articles and it states in WP:IRE-IRL that lead paragraphs should use Ireland, "When referring to places and settlements in the Republic of Ireland in the introduction to articles (and in elements such as info boxes), use Ireland not Ireland or Republic of Ireland". I dont expect you to self revert the edits you have done , I will surely come across them, but just to be aware of the guidelines. Thanks.Murry1975 (talk) 12:13, 2 January 2012 (UTC)

That would be helpful thanks. Hi again, is it just my computer, or is the picture I added of Alex Lawless not showing up, I see the border and caption but no picture, if this is a problem on your computer aswell please could you try and sort it, cheers. LiamTaylor 22:12, 3 January 2012 (UTC)
That picture of Reece Gray was taken the other day, but I cheated and borrowed a friends camera and lens, but I cannot use that anymore because he only went to that one game, in the dark my camera usually goes very blurry when picturing a moving target (a footballer), but if I put the flash on the picture goes really dark, because the flash makes the near things bright and if a player is over the other side of the pitch, you can barely see him. It's a right nightmare sometimes!LiamTaylor 22:27, 3 January 2012 (UTC)

{}

The advantage of the {} template is that it's shorter than writing both the full page name and the name you want to appear. Imlikeaboss (talk) 03:26, 8 January 2012 (UTC)

FC or not

I thought that consensus had been reached, but I'm always game for a re-analysis of the situation, so we can apply it across the board either way. Cheers, GiantSnowman 16:44, 11 January 2012 (UTC)

Japan national football team

You reverted the most capped & top goalscorers as per RSSSF? Well, RSSSF's figures doesn't take into account matches which the Japanese FA count as full 'A' internationals, most notably Olympic matches and its qualifiers. Banana Fingers (talk) 10:46, 12 January 2012 (UTC)

The Japanese FA counts Olympics and it's qualifiers up to and including the 1988 edition, not 1992 onwards. Banana Fingers (talk) 13:38, 12 January 2012 (UTC)

Thierry Henry

Absolutely right, sorry about that. Sometimes I get fed up with people not reading edit notes and this red mist rises... Britmax (talk) 17:40, 16 January 2012 (UTC)

Liam Hearn

Hello there, regarding the article on Liam Hearn, I amended the table to correspond as per your reply, but after doing so I have now reverted the career table back to your last amendment.

Their are a few other tables I have noticed in the same format i.e. Ryan_Bennett_(footballer), Luciano_Becchio, I made a presumption that the majority of tables are like this, my apologies.

Thanks for clearing things up, I appreciate it. Nelly 1975 (talk)

My bad, everyone's bad.

Well, I always thought that category was about the British Virgin Islands national team coaches. And that category was always there, as I remember. --Hydao (talk) 15:12, 20 January 2012 (UTC)

LFC players FLC

Hey Matt, thanks for the comments at the FLC, just to let you know i've addressed them all, cheers NapHit (talk) 17:30, 22 January 2012 (UTC)

okie dokie, no problem, thanks for the quick response. NapHit (talk) 17:58, 22 January 2012 (UTC)

Darren Bent

Hi, I noticed you deleted some information I added to Darren Bent's article, giving the reason as: "we don't need to know about every single goal he scores", there are a lot of articles which are very similar and I don't fully see the problem with at as there isn't much else to say on player articles apart from goals, assists ect. Surely the more information on an article the better? Not trying to sound bitter that my contribution was deleted, just hoping you can clear up why it's a problem as I thought it would make the article better. Cheers, Eng66 (talk) 22:27, 22 January 2012 (UTC)

Thanks

Hey Matt, i just like to thank you for the effort you put into reviewing the liverpool players list. There were many times you would have been well within your rights to get annoyed at me, for not checking the list as thoroughly as i should have done. Your review was top-notch and so was your perseverance with me, thanks a lot really appreciate the hard work you put in. NapHit (talk) 13:21, 31 January 2012 (UTC)

RE: TEXT

Many users have no problem with the text you are the only one that seems to have a problem. Many users have used this text because it looks neat unlike the text you use which makes it look sloppy and huge. It looks big on a laptop screen and it looks even bigger on other computer screens.

According to this: Additionally, large tables may require a decreased font size in order to fit on screen.

Text could be smaller if its to big for the screen, in many other computer screens the text takes up much of the screen.
