Michael Leary

"Hi Matty reason I have changed it to Michael Leary is a Grimsby fan that what he was known by Michael Leary as not Antonio is the middle name.Indeed on the official page he is known by this as well http://www.grimsby-townfc.co.uk/page/ProfilesDetail/0,,10417~22454,00.html and where he is now he as known as Michael Leary as opposed to Michael Antonio Leary http://www.gainsboroughtrinity.com/gainsborough-trinity-players/Page-2.html

I appreciate that your a avid football fan(like myself) but of interest as well soccerbase is not as accurate as other sites eg official football club team pages as Michael played for us 50 times in total as opposed to what is said on soccerbase 48

changes

Hi, I think the information that has been written on Mikhael Jaimez Ruiz is not accurate either. I know the player myself very well and I know that every piece of info I wrote is true. I thought you would appreciate real information not just information that are on other websites and you consider reliable. Aldershot and dover websites are not reliable as they can write anything they want, bbc interviews are just copies of what the clubs websites write. And soccerbase is just a websites that cannot keep up with the updates of everybody, so you would never know for sure the number of games. Romanian websites are untrustworthy as Jaimez Ruiz NEVER played for olimpia Gherla. CFR was his first club and olimpia was a team he was training with before he had a trail with CFr Cluj. Please let me make the corrections as I was the one who put that photo of him in there and i can keep contributing on him alone in the more reliable way you can think thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Juancho101 (talkcontribs) 22:35, 11 February 2012 (UTC)

Evangelino Valentim

Hi there, I removed the PROD of the Evangelino Valentim article. He made two league appearances in his time at Clyde, neither of which seem to be reported on soccerbase. The first was against Livingston, reported here, and the second was against Greenock Morton here, but all sources seem to incorrectly award his appearance to Christian Smith. Thanks, Bully Wee (talk) 01:47, 16 February 2012 (UTC)

  • The only source I could find would be the photo gallery of the game here, with one of the captions stating "A home debut for Evangelino Valentim". I think the confusion over this appearance is down to shirt numbers, the team list for this game on the Clyde website suggests that Valentim was #14 and was unused and Smith was #16 and came on, but I've double-checked my own records, and it's the other way around, with Valentim being #16 and making an appearance. Hi there MATTY, VASCO "here",

my summary in the article was "dedicated" to HUGHESMEISTER, not yourself, he unnecessarily scrambled the words in the particular section. Your edit was 100% fine, i only tried to upgrade on it, as PEPE is only a nickname of JOSE MANUEL, the latter being the full first name.

However, if it does not please the "community", i'll change it back to only PEPE. Regards, keep it up - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 23:48, 5 March 2012 (UTC)

Main page appearance: Liverpool F.C.

This is a note to let the main editors of Liverpool F.C. know that the article will be appearing as today's featured article on March 15, 2012. You can view the TFA blurb at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/March 15, 2012. If you prefer that the article appear as TFA on a different date, or not at all, please ask featured article director Raul654 (talk · contribs) or his delegate Dabomb87 (talk · contribs), or start a discussion at Wikipedia talk:Today's featured article/requests. If the previous blurb needs tweaking, you might change it—following the instructions at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/requests/instructions. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page. The blurb as it stands now is below:

The Shankly Gates at Anfield

Liverpool Football Club is an English Premier League football club based in Liverpool. It has played at its home ground, Anfield, since its founding in 1892. The club has won eighteen League titles, the second most in English football, as well as seven FA Cups and a record eight League Cups. It has also won more European titles than any other English club, with five European Cups, three UEFA Cups and three Super Cups. The most successful period in Liverpool's history was the 1970s and 1980s, when the club won numerous honours both domestically and in Europe. The club's supporters have been involved in two major tragedies: the first was the Heysel Stadium disaster in 1985, in which charging Liverpool fans caused a wall to collapse, killing 39 Juventus supporters. In the 1989 Hillsborough disaster, 96 Liverpool supporters died in a crush against perimeter fencing. Liverpool have long-standing rivalries with city neighbours Everton and with Manchester United. The team has played in an all-red home strip since 1964, and its anthem is "You'll Never Walk Alone". (more...)

Sudbury United

Good evening, Matthew. According to the history section of the Sudbury Town F.C. article, [i]n 1900 [Sudbury F.C.] merged with Sudbury Wanderers to form Sudbury United. Although not sourced, I have no reason to believe this is not the truth. If you forget the fact that the Sudbury United article you proposed for deletion most probably is a hoax, this would be a legitimate redirect. What do you think on the matter? Best wishes. Cite vs cite

Genuine question. Why do you recapitalise Cite when Reflinks actively decaps it? danno 21:02, 19 March 2012 (UTC)

That wasn't a criticism by the way. You generally know your way around here better than me so I thought there was some MOS thing that I was missing. I thoroughly recommend Reflinks, it is the lazy man's citation tool par excellence. Chuck in a load of bare refs and then press fire... danno 21:23, 19 March 2012 (UTC)

Roy Hodgson

I notice you made some changes to the Roy Hodgson page. These included changing the formatting of references where the word "work" was replaced by "newspaper" (where cited sources were newspapers). I presume this is a legitimate change in accordance with some Wikipedia policy. BUT you also made some incorrect changes. You mispelled "English" and you also changed Hodgson's managerial career info incorrectly. So far as I am aware, Hodgson began his managerial career at Halmstad in 1976. He was a player at Carshalton, not the manager. This is stated in the article body and is supported by the external references. Could you please amend the mistakes. I would do it myself but I am not sure how to edit the infobox data correctly. I tried changing it but it messed up the infobox data and the words "teams managed" disappeared. I could probably work out how to do it but I don't have time, so it would be quicker if you did it. Thanks Dubmill (talk) 19:07, 26 March 2012 (UTC)

Devann Yao

Hi Matty, just letting you know I declined the speedy deletion tag on Devann Yao. As he has been the subject of an AfD discussion previously, he is not eligible for deletion under PROD. Since the deletion discussion took place in 2010, and there is information in the article about 2012 season with Boussu Dour Borinage, the article will be significantly different enough to not be eligible under {{db-repost}}. I just wanted to make some procedural comments on you recent nominations of Jeremy Vuolo and Enzo Martinez. First, when listing afd's on the WP:WikiProject Football, could I get you please state that in the afd. There is some suggested text above the list of nominations. Second, when dealing with contested PROD's its generally considered polite to mention the reason for contesting, if one exists, in the delete rationale. While I'm sure it wasn't intent, not doing so can easily be construed as trying to hide relevant information. Thanks. Sir Sputnik (talk) 00:51, 10 April 2012 (UTC)

Hi there MATTY, VASCO "here",

out of respect for your work, i will not revert you again in this (and all of course) article. However, i just thought of avoiding info repetition in the statistics section (and in the process making for a more coherent chart) by removing the "loan" reference, it's clear that it was a loan after people read both the BOX and the STORYLINE.

Attentively, happy week - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 22:56, 22 April 2012 (UTC)

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on 2011–12 Football League Two PFA Team of the Year requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, a "See also" section, book references, category tags, template tags, interwiki links, a rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Mattythewhite (talk) 00:37, 23 April 2012 (UTC)

Hi there MATTY (hopefully now i'll get an answer), VASCO here,

this guy has only played in Segunda División B so far, which would make him non-notable 100%. However, he's a beach soccer international, does this "improve his case" or he's still not WP material? The user who created his page has messaged me, i'd like to say something back other than what i just did.

Happy week again - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 14:28, 23 April 2012 (UTC)

Iván Rubio Caudín

Hello. Just to let you know I removed the prod from Iván Rubio Caudín. In English football, we've generally considered that playing for a fully-pro club in the FA Cup would be enough to give that player notability. Don't see why the same shouldn't apply to Spain. At least, it's arguably enough to make him not an "uncontroversial" deletion candidate as per WP:PROD. Please feel free to AfD. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 17:46, 23 April 2012 (UTC)

Sorry for ease-dropping but other team which Valencia played against was UD Logroñés who are not fully pro, therefore Iván Rubio would fail notability guidelines although I agree it would be potentially controversial & is best at AfD. ★☆ DUCKISJAMMMY☆★ 17:58, 23 April 2012 (UTC)
WP:NFOOTBALL doesn't cover cup competitions (not ones open to both pro and semi-pro clubs, anyway), so there is no real guideline. I've just had a look for conversations on the subject. The most recent one I can find is Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football/Archive 64#UEFA Cup notability, which is indeterminate. One person was "under the impression that any competitive appearance for a club in an FPL (league or cup) confers notability, even if the opposition is semi-pro", and another that "a player from a FPL, playing against a team from a FPL in such a competiton is notable. However, if either team is not from a FPL, then they are not notable". I must have assumed the convention from some past discussion where the first opinion prevailed :-) If you do AfD him, I'm certainly not going to argue keep on the basis of 10 minutes in a cup competition. However it turns out, though, I'd guess that next season when a couple of Liverpool's kids get a runout against whatever Conference South team is next year's giant-killer, their articles will be up on here before they've warmed down after the game... cheers, Struway2 (talk) 18:49, 23 April 2012 (UTC)

Deletetion of article - Danny Whitehead

I believe that this article can be kept as the player was named in a football league side (stockport county) that was in a fully professional league (n-power league 2) in the 2010-11 season. I also believe that it passes most criteria to be an article. wna247 (talk) 00:05, 28 April 2012 (UTC)

(Proposing article for deletion per WP:PROD. (TW))Richard e Shaw

Hi matty would appreciate your help with this article and your concerns and any help you can give to keep the article and to fix any concerns issues that are raised! I believe the article should not be deleted as the player is a professional soccer player in the MLS/ MISL league in the USA. The individual is well known in New York and playing for a fully-pro soccer club in the USA I thought would be enough to give that player notability, also along with that the individual is involved with TV work etc. If you think it needs more info etc please help!

If you could help i would be gratefull!

Favour(s)

Hi there MATTY, VASCO here,

I have been adding the "Segunda División footballers" category you created to as many chaps as i could, and also some "Portugal youth international footballers", but less of the latter. If you could lend a hand, it would be much quicker (please add the category after the "La Liga footballers" one, for a matter of coherence (at least the coherence i have been "embracing")).

Speaking of cats, i don't think the "Segunda División B footballers" one is due (saw it in Carlos Javier Acuña, there are about 10 with it so far), if the competition itself is not notable, why should the category? - what's next, "Tercera División footballers"? If you don't want to remove it don't worry, out of respect for your work i won't either, i just think it should "go out".

I don't really want to you to take it personally. You're not the only one who had this format. I really dislike the same year be throwen around the stats table. I did put in club totals at the bottom. If you want a link, put in the XXXX-XX in English football article. Kingjeff (talk) 01:36, 5 May 2012 (UTC)

I put in the 2007-08 in English football article. I have this thing about the table being organized by season and not by club. I prefer the totals at the bottom to be by country. But in a case like this, where he has only played professionally in 1 country, the country totals can be replaced by club totals. Kingjeff (talk) 01:43, 5 May 2012 (UTC)

You've been around here many more years than I and there's no doubt that you know more about football than I, but I really wanted to caution you about multiple reverts. Odubajo

I know you do a lot of good work around the place, but there's a tendency (at least on this article) to make edits that don't really need to be made. Odubajo is a professional footballer - why would that need to be removed? I'm a "footballer", and there's nothing notable about that - professionalism goes to establish notability and is relevant to the lead. "Currently playing" is a perfectly adequate way of phrasing it - it does not imply that he literally plays all the time or is playing right now. Also, a range of years in the same century are normally displayed as 2005–08 (for example), not 2005–2008, per WP:YEAR. Also, London does not really need to be wikilinked as a (very) common term, per WP:OVERLINK. Bretonbanquet (talk) 11:58, 6 May 2012 (UTC)

I mean a tendency in general where football bios are concerned. I've never seen instances of making sure the infobox fields are all in the right order, or capitalising the R in "reflist", for example, and I see it's done across the footy infoboxes. Anyway, sure, it might be obvious to us that these guy are mostly professionals, but not everyone reading will realise that - plus plenty of players with bios will have become semi-pro by dropping into non-league football, so it's not really that obvious. About the year ranges - regardless of any other articles, where something conforms to a guideline, it's not great form to change it to a format which doesn't conform. Those extra two digits are totally superfluous, and I think football infoboxes are the only instance where I've seen it as commonplace. Cheers, Bretonbanquet (talk) 12:18, 6 May 2012 (UTC)
